That cutscene in the middle is actually realistic; last week my supervisor asked me when I'd have a report ready and my response was to laugh maniacally

I, too, return periodically to rewatch the glory days of youtube. Back when retsupurae was prime content and hitting 100k was a huge achievement... now they’ve grown up and sorta moved on... slowbeef still posts stuff periodically which is awesome, but I don’t know about betus or what he’s up to... Nothing will ever really replace retsupurae and the effect they had on me through the years. They were like the first real channel I watched on UA-cam. I remember I had to go away like 7 years ago for a month or so, and I just remember wanting so desperately to watch some retsucontent! So here we are.
1:24:11 HELP ME GUY KAZAMA STOP THIS CRAZY THING This is one of the first videos I watched on the channel about three years ago, and seeing that teacup ride boss fight still slays me with laughter.
Guy Kazama: "You can't buy my feelings, but you CAN buy 'Last Alert: The Guy Kazama Blu-Ray/DVD Box Set' at participating stores! Order now, and you will also receive an official Last Alert t-shirt!"
Subscription box buster. I'm glad this exists, easier to rewatch. Here's hoping some other videos will get the same all in one treatment. Like Cobra. Or Earnest Evans. Or Deep Fear.
There are two cut lines in this game*. One is from Garcia; when he escapes to the space shuttles, he mentions he's going to destroy the Earth's ozone layer--I guess that's what Indra does? Which, okay, destroying the food chain and rendering the outside world uninhabitable by daylight, that's ultimate weapon material. And as the world plunges into chaos, Colonel Kadat and Mr. Lee control terrorism and organized crime, and Steve Lloyd is a rich megacorp CEO so he's got some major pull in business and politics. Thus, the four men seize control of Earth, much like a skeletal Jesus. But yeah, where do they live after Indra goes off? Was that really supposed to be a moon base in the final stages, where they would've raised a toast to Earth as it burns? There are so many wild ideas here, but there's only about one minute per cutscene to convey them (and the voice actors aren't too concerned with doing so convincingly or even correctly). I guess what I'm saying is, I would totally watch a Last Alert movie, or read the novelization, or whatever. * both of the cut lines mention going to Hell...this was around the time ActRaiser came out and had to change a few names to avoid Christian connotations, so I guess I'm not surprised they were cut
I just realized something. In that cutscene Guy Kazama says, "It would seem president Alman has been taken prisoner." Then the chick talks and says, "it would appear as though President Alman is being held at a camp on too of the mountain." So she pretty much just reiterated what he just said... Bravo writers! Standing ovation!
***** Nothing wrong with repeating vital information, but when it's simply one character repeating exactly the line the previous character stated back to back, it's completely unnecessary.
***** I'm saying that repeating information is indeed important. Yes. I can agree. But when Guy says his line, the female lead repeats almost the same thing verbatim immediately after he says it. Like I said, it's one thing to repeat info so we as players can remember it, but it's wholly unnecessary to have two separate characters say the same thing back to back. Do we understand each other a little better?
This is one of my favourite videos ever. Pure, timeless excellence throughout. The game seems rather decent, it provides a lot of humour on its own, and it has that 80's/90's style about it, from the gameplay to the anime cutscenes. The music is great, the voice-acting is hysterical, the commentary is hilarious. It's fantastic. I love it!
This game actually doesn't look bad imo. It has great detail to vary each level in its graphical design to not feel as stale as it is, that's rare for a game from the 1980s. Pretty impressive considering how long this game lasts. The music is pretty good as well. It's like Ikari Warriors's little "no child left behind" brother. If they made it more akin to arcade difficulty, it would have been miles better. Having that many health points completely ruin the challenge of a top-down shooter, especially since everyone dies in one hit.
Which Jack Slate? Standard one would lose anything that didn't involve getting onto a plane, Retribution Jack would phone up HUGE CHRIS from Resi 5 and they'd go bench some trucks together, drink an inordinate amount of alcohol, and then lie in a kingsize hotel bed and stink.
I was just watching the playlist of this and now you release a full video? How dare you make me watch this again!? And I say this while preparing some pop corn of course.
I just imagine guy yelling 'hey just hang on!' to the hostage at the first boss battle....then the guys body tearing apart by bullets like that scene in robocop....then being blasted with a flame thrower.
Mark Marchesini And the fact that there are usually only a handful of woefully ineffectual enemies on-screen at once... xP Infinite spread gun would be fine if there were constantly dozens of guys trying to kill you. xD
Heh it does make me wish there was a Retsupurae Box Set with extras included as mentioned in earlier comments. I often did come back to parts of this. slowbeef and Diabetus are both so energetic during this RP and the VA is a riot.
No "The making of Retsupurae: Last Alert" extra feature? This is the worst dvd I've ever bought, I might as well have torrented the retsupurae and saved myself 500 Neo-Shekels!
The saddest thing? Something like that has happened for real. Irate Gamer (or Chris Bores) released a DVD and charged ridiculous prices for it, and the only thing it contained was videos he already had on UA-cam to begin with. There was no special features, no DVD exclusive reviews, nothing. Just his UA-cam videos that you can see for free.
Nick Farmer Back in the good ol' days, could go go down to the corner store and get yourself a can of Retsupop for three cents and use the two pennies to buy a pack of Retsugum.
Last Alert looks like Metal Gear except with stupid crazy action, anime, and a more ridiculous but less smart plot... so it's basically Metal Gear Rising.
Metal Gear Solid had a pretty great plot. It was confusing at times but the theme of genetics was fascinating and laid the groundwork for much of the subject matter that the rest of the series would deal with. MGS4 had a crazy ass plot but the concepts of militaries as businesses fighting in pseudo-wars and the grand Patriot AIs were intriguing. In MGR the plot is based more on crazy sci-fi elements rather than anything too substantial and the grand scheme of the main villain is monologued to the player in a single cutscene at the end as opposed to the Solid series where plot elements naturally unfolded.
I remember playing this (on an emulator) slightly before Beef and Betus riffed on it, and I remember being amused at the rather unusual military ranks this game has. The highest rank ('Super Hero'') in particular, was really puzzling. While it does make kinda sense (there's really nothing else I could be called at that point), isn't that what I've technically been from the very beginning?
I love how almost every time Guy comes up to a boss either slowbeef or diabetus is like "he's big" or "whoa, this guy's huge". This is not only the best but also the most homoerotic wrongpurae ever. I guess that might be a bit redundant to say.
Yes! These long videos should be done more, not as frequent as the n-part videos of course, but it's nice to be able to chill for an hour and a half or two for the funny commentary and gameplay
Coming back to this way later, I'd swear some of these voice actors were in Megaman X4. I definitely hear General in one of these characters, possibly Sigma too.
I would pay for a blu-ray of all their longplays with a diabetus dakimakura and a slowbeef bobblehead. collector's edition will have a BillyMC poster of billy terrified while holding onto a piece of rope and the text "hang in the champ"
This game is a parallel and a sort of polar opposite to roguelikes... in roguelikes, you plan ahead, become aware of your surroundings. It's fucking balls hard too, but at least you feel a sense of accomplishment and feel rewarded when completing the game. Even roguelikes that start you off with everything unlocked have a high difficulty. Then you have Last Alert here, a game that looks so painfully boring and is, "we assume you have mental retardation," levels of offensive. If a player breezes through an easy game, like the easiest games I've ever played, they will have no satisfaction or mild self-actualization. I always assumed that games should challenge you, and besting that challenge settles nicely. I'm not saying to sacrifice fun for difficulty, just that you shouldn't simply dumb down a game to cater to those who think all games are too hard, so they need to cheat while simultaneously looking up GameFAQs. And really, the game gives you an infinite spread gun in the first batch of stages, and not long after they give you an infinite spread gun that also shoots rockets. Not even HALFWAY THROUGH THE GAME.
the bonesauce It's a damn shame, too. you look at something like this, and you see that it could utilize an actual challenge factor. You get swarmed with enemies but this fucking infinite gun you get early in the game just ruins any point of playing in the first place... besides the amazing voice acting of course.
The music actually sounds very familiar to me... Idk I kinda like it actually. It's energetic and involved for the time. (or maybe i'm just tired and being too generous?)
what the player didn't show you guys is that if you beat the game you unlock NG+ and if you beat THAT you are given the real final rank: Bullet Proof Vest
Even in 2020, this is still my favorite RP video. It's the perfect demonstration of Beef and Betus' chemistry.
That makes me want to have them back even more!
This isn't your first time here... The world feels empty without a new wrongpurae, right?
fuck man :(
:(
Yeah, it sucks, but Beef&Betus are in their 50s by this point so I can understand not wanting to do this stuff anymore.
Are you a Dark Souls NPC?
They're not "in their 50s". They've aged up to METAL SOLDIER
The silence that happens before the claw boss was supposed to feature this gem:

The whole Last Alert LP in one video? This makes me want to watch it again even more!
I actually can't count how many times I've come back to this video over the years.
NezumiVA
Many times, myself. I’ve lost count. Tonight happened to be a retsupurae box set kinda night.
I revisit this video a couple of times every year, this is such a great video.
retsupurae has some great playlists to run before going to sleep.
"Nobody can hire my feelings" is a really great line in a game overflowing with them.
No matter how many times I watch this video I always think that must be Beetus at 5:42

I'm still pushing the idea of Diabeetus having his own comedy show where he makes fun of southern people.
So it'll be a show of just him making fun of himself?
***** Pretty much. Also all other southern people, including me.

I never really played MGS games but I always had the image that the plot and characters are similar to this game.

27:32 "those are colors"
so that means they are COLOR GUARDS!!!
5:39 Chipcheezum
YEEAAH, STREET LYFE!!!
How did I never notice?!
MSF soldier Alligator
BECAUSE THERE'S NOT ENOUGH *ANIME ANIME ANIME!*
Hank the 'Chog was behind the Lloyd Regime the whole time!
I will give genuine praise to the soundtrack; it's very catchy. The core gameplay also looks fun. I'd like to play this game someday.

"Lloyd is Notch."
...
"Lloyd is Chairman Steve."
I always knew Minecraft's player character was a self-insert Mary Sue.
Kenshiro is John Rambo as Guy Kazama in Last Alert.
Yes! These long videos should be done more, not as frequent as the n-part videos of course, but it's nice to be able to chill for an hour and a half or two for the funny commentary and gameplay
For that pink-haired martial artist lady, that weird symbol that predicts her landing is supposed to be a grappling hook, I think.
Chairman Steve- the most intimidating villain name ever.
"It's like you can't even fucking believe it." - slowbeef, 1988
I had to pause the video and laugh for a minute as soon as "Chairman Steve" appeared. This is going to be a good video.
This is one of my favourites, You sound like you have so much fun.
Still rewatching this 10 years later.
Coming back to this way later, I'd swear some of these voice actors were in Megaman X4. I definitely hear General in one of these characters, possibly Sigma too.
I can see that, I know Zero's VA from that game was in another game retsupurae riffed on called Deep Fear
The first title card alone was enough to make me laugh. This is going to be good.
So when can I pick up the blueray remaster with all new CGI GUY KAZAMA MUSCLE FLEXING!
I would pay for a blu-ray of all their longplays with a diabetus dakimakura and a slowbeef bobblehead.
collector's edition will have a BillyMC poster of billy terrified while holding onto a piece of rope and the text "hang in the champ"
***** All the guns have been replaced with walkie-talkies.
***** throw in a musclebomber action figure and i would buy the hell out of it
Ted Hartrup King Graham's death scream is now all weird, and the Duckinians blink.
I honestly thought that Retsupurae and pals did this voice acting as a gag...then I looked it up.....
The part with the forced scrolling and jeeps reminds me so much of a very similar part in Total Carnage.
DAMN that was a hilarious one! Watched quite a few times, you guys are awesome!
Wow, it's like Christmas morning!
I remember whenever this first came out I actually believed they were drunk the whole recording
Help Mei in the snow level; did Last Alert inspire Overwatch?
This game looks so fucking easy. If they made it more challenging it would look more decent.
@@JanoyCresvaZero They are using a health cheat
It's insane to know they were so drunk doing this one that they actually blacked out and had no memory of even doing this...
The music actually sounds very familiar to me...
Idk I kinda like it actually. It's energetic and involved for the time. (or maybe i'm just tired and being too generous?)
Brigand physicist was actually Brilliant physicist but of course the voice acting is terrible.
Wow, you're right.
OH NO! GUY'S SUCCUMBED TO YOUNGBLOOD'S DISEASE!
Also, all this voice acting is perfect, very, very perfect!
what the player didn't show you guys is that if you beat the game you unlock NG+ and if you beat THAT you are given the real final rank: Bullet Proof Vest
12:01 - 26:17 - 01:01:26
Y'know, Last Alert actually looks pretty fun
One of my favorites by Retsupurae. I watch it at least once a year.
I gotta be honest: this game looks kinda fun to play. First time I've ever said that about a wrongpuraed game.
