OMG! You guys had me in stitches with your commentary. I remember them wanting it to be 'over the top'...and they got it. In my defense, an actors job is to give the client what they ask for. :) I must admit, we had lots of laughs along the way.
Keep up the good work.
Paul
Sending this comment upwards.
So, +retsupurae when are you going to work that youtube magic and pin/heart this comment so poor basement dwellers, like me, don't have to dig forever to read the amazing words of our God and master Paul?
Amazing
Five years late but this is the best comment on youtube
Paul you are a LEGEND,thanks for the memories:)
Thanks, we really appreciate it! Give Sayaka our best!
Paul Eiding could get away with saying any outlandish thing and still sound like a professional.
"HAPPY ISLAND."
"Say my name."
"You're Paul Eiding"
"...You're god damn right."
ALL the anime stereotypes fighting on one zone, we got emo boy, sexual girl, overly manly girl, boy that hates girls, gay boy, boy allergic to anything sexy, shy girl, childish girl, robot boy and girl, sexy teachers, sexy professors, girl that loves boy but boy dosent love girls in general, asian persuasion boy, cat girls and cat boys, gangster boys and girls, pedo old man, over reacting boys and girls, dud ho dies first, dumb protagonist, sentimental androids, little babys, al in EVIL ZONE !!
"Sorry about last week... I like BOOZE!"
Words to live by.
I met Paul Eiding at this years Anime expo and actually brought up this video and he immediately remembered your guys commentary and had nothing but good things to say
that's wonderful
he's just a good dude. it's your reminder that not every celebrity is completely full of themselves.
Sorry about hiding the truth, Snake. I like booze.
Gally: It's such a surprise to see a little girl like you here!
*after Paul has already fought at least 2 other little girls in the same game*
*Awkward silence for about 5 seconds*
*guitar riff*
Bounty Hunter!
I can't hate Evil Zone. It's what first got me interested in anime.
So, in the Evil Zone, an enemy becomes a severe threat or danger due to overwhelming power. So, in that moment, Evil Zone technically becomes the
Danger Zone
For anyone wondering about the whole "say my name" thing in the "Man in Black" preview, it was moreorless improvised for localization. Originally, it was some 4th wall breaking, product placement thing for the game that took up most of the time, which is why there are so few stills for the preview compared to all the others in the game. The same thing happened in the preview for "Self" in Lie's story. (Also, for the lulz, the original title of "Man in Black" was "Black Man" to keep with the two-word episode name theme. The reasons for the change/MiB association should be obvious.
The "say my name" bit specifically originated from Gally's final episode preview, where his name is said as a rallying cheer in both the English and Japanese versions.
Gally also had his show named something different in the original, too. Originally it was called "Klutzy Rogue." Obviously the western world was too good for that at the time.
Paul Eiding's comment is pretty far down in the comments for some weird reason despite all the thumbs up. This is what he said in case you don't want to hunt for it.

I actually think this game is pretty charming in its own anime-tropey way. Wouldn't mind seeing some kind of continuation of the series from somebody.
that is my long-time wet dream. >_< but they never did anything more with the title.
+Number Nine There's a facebook page if you want to show more support and/or voice your opinions.

This game’s animated intro could be titled “anime.mp4”
only if they center around paul eiding, i mean vanish gregman.
Ah, Titus, the stellar company that brought us such hits as Superman 64. This could only be good...
***** Interesting! wonder what lead up to it.
Titus has underwritten good games before. Yuke's, on the other hand, went on to make the buggy and horrible WWE official games
Red Mercer
They were better than the WWE shit that's out now.
Proton Jons lets play kinda shows it was Warner Bros. and DC Comics for Superman 64 being so Awful
*****
It's still not Titus fault as they wanted to do certain things and DC told them to fuck off.
Superman 64 pretty much got the same treatment that E.T. did on the Atari you can say.
For those wondering what the Japanese titles were, apparently they were all in English for this character, too:
1st STAGE 「CHERRY BOY」
2nd STAGE 「CRAZY PUNNKER」
3rd STAGE 「BURNING QUEEN」
4th STAGE 「NOISY GIRL」
5th STAGE 「IMITATION ROGUE」
6th STAGE 「BLACK MAN」
7th STAGE 「ANGELIC GIRLS」
8th STAGE 「METALLIC HERO」
9th STAGE 「DANCING PIXY」
FINAL STAGE 「THE best NICE GUY」
So they kept CHERRY BOY, but had the presence of mind to change BLACK MAN... I'm really sad that we didn't get THE best NICE GUY though. :( I assume that was a JP only stage all about Paul Eiding.
"Sorry about last week. I like booze."
Somehow, I don't think that excuse would go over well in any other line of work.
Just remember everyone. Buried under all these comments lies one single comment by Paul Eiding himself
who's that?
+Super Cooling Fan if you've ever watched Ben 10, he's grandpa max.
If you've ever played Dead to rights: Retribution, he's Jack Slate's Dad.
If you've ever played the Metal Gear Solid series (or Ape Escape 3) he's Col. Roy Cambell
MrX626 Ah, thanks for the explanation!
So...what did he comment exactly in this vid?

"Paul Eiding himself left a comment on their Evil Zone video, stating how hilarious he found their commentary to be:
OMG! You guys had me in stitches with your commentary. I remember them wanting it to be 'over the top'...and they got it. In my defense, an actors job is to give the client what they ask for. :) I must admit, we had lots of laughs along the way.

Paul"
I thought Gally said "I like boobs!" at first...
Considering the opponent he's fighting, that would fit.
something happened to me last thursday when I was driving to the evil zone. I had a couple of miles to go, I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky to the east. It was moving very irregularly. suddenly there was intense light all around me, and when I came to, I was in I-Preseru. What do you think happened to me?
I think you got fucking high, mate.
Holy shit, Paul Eiding rules.
Who is Paul Eiding and why is Colonel Campbell in this twice?
OhShitSeriously Paul Eiding is a voice actor. Same who voices Campbell.
I loved this game when I was younger, and I still do-
In both cases it was for entirely the wrong reasons, how amazingly bad/hilarious the dubbed voice overs are, and how awesome the music is at times. This one remains one of the best examples of an early guilty pleasure game for me, and I'm willing to bet-
The same goes for A LOT of other people, and will for plenty more after they watch this video.
"Do you need your scissors?"
Fucking golden.
I love this Retsupurae! I love the part at the beginning where Diabetus says "Colonel what are you talking about?" and Paul's narration says "Happy Island." perfect timing! My favorite parts including when Vanish says things like: "Oh good, I hope you not only improve your fighting skills but also your feminity HA HA HA HA!" and "I like booze!"
I LIKE BOOZE.
First time I heard him say that, I thought he said boobs. Way more funnier reaction.!
Every time he goes "DON'T RUN AWAY!" I can't help but laugh. Bless Paul Eiding.
Highway to the Evil Zone!
Gonna take you right in to the Evil Zoooooonnne
"That's a boy?"
Slowbeef, it's anime, _of course_ that's a boy!
A very small, very feminine, very inappropriately dressed "Age: 21" boy.
...ANIME! ^_____^
It's called a trap, I think.
I love me some traaaaps.
He's really only 15. All the underage characters were aged up for the American version (Setsuna's 14. Erel's 17 and Midori's 18).
Voxel Composer Well, that and Setsuna flashes the world her undies in most of her animations and Erel's really sexualized (in the cutscenes anyway).
See, the idea with him yelling "Don't run away!" is he says he while using his one projectile move.
Get it? You're meant to fire it when the enemy tries to get away from you.
I laughed harder than I should have at the Kakurine "Cock Urine" part.
Raiden, this game is a failure! Turn off the console right now!
Man I actually owned this game. It was so wonderfully stupid. Every character had their story mode done as a different type of TV show. It was so damn cheesy.
"You better not hurt that little girl!"... Last picture is of said girl getting missile strike to death.
Well, that's how anime works. Anyone below the age of 30 is a kid, and anyone who's aged 30 or more is an old man.
And then, there's Keiya
Kakurine is 10010 years old and they still refer to her as a little girl...
Lucina056 Shh... You'll ruin it for the pedoph-I mean lolicons.
Welp I'm over 30, now I can get cast for the role of Yaobikuni already (an 800 year old nun who actually looks the part..)
And I'm stuck with Keiya's role everytime I put on a tuxedo and start pulling magic excel spreadsheets. For more eleven years, that is.
It even has the 10000 year old lolicon
9:21 paul eiding's hand clips through his sword. In a still picture. Great job developers. Great. Job.
"Snake, press the square button along with analog down to kick some serious ass!"
Hearing the Colonel say, "By the way, I LOVE booze." just made my entire week I think.
I love that Paul Eiding still talks about this.
31:52 Naomi OBAMA!?!? Nobody noticed this?!
What about the Good Zone does it have David Hayter talking about bunnies?
Yes, and the location is Sad Valley
I hope "Cherry Boy" wasn't the "episode"'s name in the Japanese version because チェリーボーイ is slang for a boy who's still a virgin (i.e. hasn't had his "cherry" popped)
Could be a take on it being the show's first episode.
cherry also refers to inexperience or being very new.
Also note that after Paul Eiding beats him up he says "Well I'd say you're a man after all" in a very tender voice.
This game is bad in all the right ways. It's ridiculousness is charming and I'll admit some of the combat actually is pretty good. The dialogue though. The dialogue is pure fucking gold. Thanks, Obama... For the Stage Modeling and 2-D Graphics Design.
I like to think that Paul Eiding acts just like Gally in real life.
Disclaimer: The Evil Zone is in no way affiliated with the Mo'Fun Zone, and any attempts to claim that the Evil Zone is "Mo'Fun" will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Paul Eiding pulls out his magic voice.
This is the most intense blast from my past and I cannot believe I get the pleasure of watching you two retsupurae it... oohhhhhh babyyy...
Don't know if another commenter has mentioned this, but a "cherry boy" (cherībōi) is a Japanese gairaigo term for a male virgin.
Voxel Composer *tips fedora*
it fell in puddle :(
oh man, I love this game, and loved this Long Play, and now it gets RPed, This has totally made my night
Wow, I love this game solely for Paul Eiding chewing the foam right off the walls of the recording booth.
Things learned from Evil Zone:
1. Paul Eiding is awesome
2. Paul Eiding is awesome
3. I LIKE BOOZE!
4. Paul Eiding is awesome
...Did I mention that I think Paul Eiding is awesome?
Paul Eiding is a legend!
Gally's sword is probably the Transistor.
"LOOK AT ME, PAUL EIDING!"
Literally my favourite impression attempt from Diabetus! :)
Titus? That sounds familiar... Didn't AVGN do a game by them?... If I remember correctly, wasn't that Superman 64? Already such a good sign...
No, Kakurine's not a male. Her voice just gets deeper when she partly discards her innocent girl guise. Since she was an energy being, like Lea (who from my understanding possessed Ihadura Il Imella - sometimes if you win a battle as her, she'll scream "She's still alive!"), she probably doesn't have a biological sex, but her mental gender is female. Confusing, I know.
Holy crap, that was absolutely amazing! How did I not know about this game sooner? I have to have a copy now... It's like _Battle Arena Toshinden_ with way more awesomeness. And Paul Eiding! You can't go wrong with that combination.
_And wow, Eiding's wife is really cute..._
She also looks like ten years younger than him.....and probably is......
SkellionPowalskiz She's 19.
+gaminggoddess85 And she's a terrible cook.
I love how this game is acting like its one of those 90s animes. XD
I've had this game since 2002 and had no idea what Ihadurca was saying for years. Turns out "Vanalgando" was the name of her staff.
Why do I have this persistent feeling that Gally's name in Japanese is actually Garry, and the translation team royally fucked up?
I'm surprised they portrayed the Onmyouji as well as they did, considering what they thought "grappling" was.
Oh! That's the voice of Max Tennyson! I knew I recognized it
This game looks pretty fucking rad.
It's kind of fun if you manage to get past the cheesiness.
There's no getting over it or getting past it. There's only going straight through the swiss cheese caves and embracing it.
...That counts as well.
I mean, Danzaiver hails from this.
As the credits will tell you Al is played by Lani Minella; it's closest to Omochao. Tikal was voiced by Elara Distler.
Evil Zone's female cast is actually most of SA2's: Minella (Rouge) also voiced Midori and Iha here, Susan Wakefield (Secretary, GUN Computer) voiced Erel, and Moriah Seebold [later known as Moriah Angeline], who voiced Setsuna and Kakurine here, would go on to voice Maria Robotnik. For years people thought it was Shelly Fox (Sayaka), who sounds a lot like Minella, but it aint
Sounds like Kakurine is saying pikachu like Pikachu does in Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Evil Zone apparently gets a lot of their voice actors from the same place as Sega because not only is Sayaka Maria, but Midori and Ihadurca are Rouge and Danzaiver is Big the Cat and Duke Nukem.
Every time Paul says HA HA! I think of Eggman...
Take heed and bear witness to the truths that lie herein, for they are the last legacy of Happy Island
"I'm sure she would be most welcome in the fighting game community" ahahaha
Paul Eiding's voice and Retsupurae made this the best 34 minutes of my day.
"Colonel, why wasn't I invited to the tournement?" "This tournement is on a need-to-know basis. Even I don't know everthing about it."
I'm surprised that there is no comments about how Danzaiver was voiced by Duke Nukem
...and not a single "Shake it Baby"? That's a wasted opportunity, that is.
"Snake to crawl press the HHHHHHRRRRRGGHHHHH!!! Button..." Lol yeah it's funny to hear Paul say shit like that. Especially his stupid monologues XD
Jesus christ, Paul Eiding has been in almost every game I've ever fucking played.
And here he is, hamming the fuck out.
WTF?
12 years later and awake thanks to a migraine no less and the whole "I LIKE BOOZE" line finally makes sense in context: Gally is apologizing to the audience for his behavior in the previous week's episode, admitting he was drunk.
The first person he fights against sounds like Axl from Mega Man X7
Misheard "I like booze" as "I like boobs." Which would probably have made for a better game: Paul Eiding is The Groper.
the bounty hunter guy looks like Guts from Berserk.
C'mon, Yukes, how come we can get a ton of the same wrestling game over and over, but not Evil Zone 2?
+Magitek1112 your comment reminds me, I actually have the JP version of one of the old Yuke's WWE games. Japanese Rock(-sama) says some lines that are Evil Zone-level amazing...
"Sorry about last week... I like pie!"
I concur.
He also plays the Uncle in Ben 10; Alien Force and beyond. I kept waiting for him to say "You've created a Time Paradox!" :D
I am somehow not at all surprised that Titus made this, considering their past works.
Hey hey hey, Earnest Evans is one of the best comedies to hit the Sega CD.
Man, that intro put me in the Zone!
Before MGS: Rising would bring a Raiden spin-off title to the series, Colonel Campbell was featured in his own spin-off, "Evil Zone" as an alcoholic womanizer of a bounty hunter. After facing criminal charges for brutally stabbing several tournament fighters to death, including the famous, "Cock-Urine" he would change his identity and take on his current persona to escape his dark past.
I don't know if it's just me, but there's a few of these character designs that I think actually kind of work.
Granted, not many, and the game itself is really bad. But some of them could probably be salvaged.
Narcoleptic Insomniac We need to send in a rescue team. There's interesting character concepts trapped deep inside the Evil Zone.
I can't believe Paul watched this. Congrats, Retsupurae!
A place with all the Anime in the world? I'd call that the Evil Zone, oh yeah.
So many Paul Eiding Jokes XD
I think my favorite segment was the business man part. Diabetus had a FIELD DAY with that character XD
the characters are little the cast from any given "How to Draw Manga!" book
"My shoulder burns.... a lot."
Screen cuts off perfectly. Diabetus is the best!
Galley: "Say my name..."
Sayaka: "Oh, Paul! Paul Eiding!"
This game somehow manages to be more anime than real anime.
14:42 "Hey, I don't think I can stand this."
Agreedo
"Worlds are Paul Eiding!"
Oh man, I just love the combination of over-the-top voice acting and cheesy writing... it's why I've enjoyed the last alert commentary.
How many projectiles does each character have? Goddamit
Evil Zone is the best there is. And no one's ever gonna keep him down.
I'm intermittently hearing Gally's voice as Roy Campbell and Max Tennyson and it's pretty amusing to imagine
