I used to watch retsupurae every day as a teen. I still love coming back and catching jokes I've almost forgotten, or hearing a phrase that I've adopted without realizing it. Thanks guys.
If you haven't yet, I recommend checking out the videos they've done together on slowbeef's channel. It's not as frequent as it used to be but still good stuff.
Here in the year 2020, making another pilgrimage after a long absence. I used to rewatch it a ton but I got obsessed with other stuff for a few years. This brings back memories.
Right? My housemate and I still laugh about the Dr. Jollo silliness to this day, which makes doctor visits just a bit more tolerable. "...We-hell, iths DEFINNITLEEE nawt LUPUTH...."

I think the Dark Seed 2 long play ruined most of us by always revisiting townspeople. *I say as I blindly go through a playlist I've watched over 10 times...*
+BugPope I've watched through this and the KQ5 (well, on the side while doing computer work) than *any* of my favorite movies. It is a great one though. Especially how they made most long ass credits bearable by riffing on them.
Wait, I can't believe I didn't notice this before. The big bad is named after Abdul Alhazred, the maniac who wrote the Necronomicon in Lovecraftian lore. Okay, Sierra.
I haven't thought about Retsupurae in over a year and then I realized today that it's been over a year since they've done anything so... I guess it's over. I'm going to use this time to go back and revisit some things that made me laugh over the last large portion of my life. Since retsupurae has been in my life I've moved across the world and back, and been through so much, always watching some retsupurae every now and then, since let's plays were my first sort of binge on youtube before speedruns on twitch, and SA was where I went for all of it. I'll start my look back through this channel with this one for sure, the best, never fails to make me lose my shit and make my sides hurt.
FargoneMyth I agree! I want to make a compilation of all the times he does that. My favorite is in Session 2: "wellthere'smycrashedshipwheremymatesareprobablydeadwellbye."
"Kid spent half an hour talking to a pawnbroker and librarian. Nah, I'm just foolin'." I kind of want that animation from Bastion where Alexander falls flat on his face with every screen transition.
Alhasa-whatever is such a dummy. "Oh a ship wrecked prince? Well better act really suspicious and shifty to make sure he thinks I'm evil, then not give him a way home but encourage to leave while sending my incompetent genie to kill him. That should definitely not result in him being able to foil my plans."
Man, I never really thought of it before but the land of the green isles sucks. Civilisation basically consists of a really shitty pawn shop, a library, and a couple of houses. Outside of that it's basically pure anarchy.
No I meant the wrongpuraes. Lol. Usually when beef asks if betus has played the bad game they're riffing, he says no and beef goes on to talk about how he played it as a kid. Lol
Great video guys! Also it may amuse you to know that there have actually been three Royal Navy ships called HMS Stalker, one in WWI and two in WWII. :D
I think it's supposed to be a "clever" literary reference. And since stealing from fairytales and books is kind of one of the main themes of the series, it's not all that surprising. Lame, but not unexpected. He's also referenced in KQ5.
Presumably for his status as a mad Arab. Yeah, King's Quest will just take every story they've ever heard of and try to string them together with bullshit puzzles.
Lol damn yall are really hating on this game talking about "Oh its just STEALING from other stories, how "clever" right?". I think they knew what they were doing lol. This is a good game, but one of those love-hate games you have when you young.
This is a great birthday present. Thanks for the RP, guys! (I hope you also riff on the death montage, at least it's much longer and better than Darkseed 2's one!)
@Stormfin That's Tony Jay. He was a LOT of voices back in the 90's. He was even Frollo in Hunchback of Notre Dame (the character sings the infamous song "Hellfire").
That dwarf thing is the definition of Sierra Syndrome, the obscure puzzle thing where you need a fish in a bottle to give to a toad so he will give you a cowboy hat that will get you past a guarded gate.
@LughTube1 Uhh, actually, if you don't mind spoilers, Alexander prevents her from being killed at the end. AND he brings some people back to life. Like I said, exact opposite of Mike Dawson.
I never realized until afterwards that Diabetus has already seen this whole game when the Freelance Astronauts did a let's play of it with him. So I wonder why he seems to have forgotten this game?
Fun fact: KQ6 was not directed by Roberta Williams. She only hopped on the project to "fix" some core issues with KQ6's initial game concept, which is how we went from Alexander being a timid boy(as he lived alone with an old wizard as a slave for 17 years) to a thirsty tier 3 Cassima simp. Also, a lot of puzzles were cut from the game as with KQ5.
Most of these voice actors in this game were pretty talented to begin with. Also I like that the pawn shop owner voices Lee in the Waking Dead game. Not to mention Coleman Townsend and Tony Jay to name a few
I can't wait until they get to the mobster tomatoes and that one guy who sounded like Dudley Do-Right. I wonder if seeing/hearing them again will give Diabetus memory flashes back to his drunken adventure with the Freelance Astronauts. Also, Diabetus' Droopy joke for the big mouth Dwarf is actually appropriate, seeing as how he's voiced by the legendary Don Messick, who also used that same voice when he played Droopy in Tom and Jerry Kids and Tom and Jerry the Movie. Fun bit of trivia.
slowbeef: We're avoiding the obvious Sierra trap, boy--don't worry about it. Diabetus: Oh. I was amused by Diabetus's reaction, due to the fact the trap was so obvious. It was spoken in a tone of someone who has obviously never played a Sierra adventure game.
I feel older graphics hold up still because with technological limitations studios had to creatively figure out how to frontload their artistic assets to compensate.
Hell yes, I really liked this game when I was a kid, and because I was so young and how assholish the puzzles are, it took me FOREVER to finish it. This retsu is such a treat for me :3
You make fun of how quickly and awkwardly Alexander walks, but it's either that, or Mike Dawson slowly walking home from the library in the first Darkseed. I'll take Alex's walk any day.

That's kind of depressing in a way. No matter which universe you're in, there's always a Mike Dawson.
To this day, anytime a game I’m playing drops frames I always say “5 frames a second aughta do it”
Hahaha
"They call me Two-Frames Dog"
The stuffed bear in the shop is the same one that punched King Graham in King's Quest 5.
Whoa, better keep an eye open for the badass who could tuck an accomplishment like that under their belt!

Almost half a year later and I'm back for another go too. This stuff just lulls me to sleep when I'm too tired to think.
Happy 10 year anniversary to an old fave.

@G Novak yeah I watch him all the time. His daughter has a pretty good on stream personality
"ugh, next!" "he swipes over, like an ipad" its really funny that tinder was released only 7 months after this vid was uploaded
I thought it was a tinder joke rewatching, I wonder what I thought back when this first came out. That's pretty funny
@@sleepykoinutinder wasn’t the first to use a swipe feature it was just the first to get mainstream success iirc
Abdul Alhazred was created by H.P. Lovecraft. It is "The Mad Arab" that wrote the Necronomicron.
This game doesn't really have the right tone for the Necronomicon's bloodthirsty, djinn-crazed author.
@@Leatherargento
It does have the blatant racism, though.
So begins the legend of Jollo, the sexually marginalized jester.
32:57 I keep coming back for this diabetus joke and this slowbeef laugh.
Diabeetus's doodloodloo thing is my absolute favorite bit of this RP
FargoneMyth I agree! I want to make a compilation of all the times he does that.
My favorite is in Session 2: "wellthere'smycrashedshipwheremymatesareprobablydeadwellbye."
Isn't feeling a strange pulling sensation on his magic map the reason Alexander came to these islands in the first place?
Revisiting an old favourite.
Casema is a local cable company here. Every time they mention the princess I'm just wildly confused for a split second before it sinks in.
"Alexander politely addresses the odd-looking guards at the castle door."
"You guys are odd!"
The way Diabetus said it made me spit out my water. :"D
"Kid spent half an hour talking to a pawnbroker and librarian. Nah, I'm just foolin'."
I kind of want that animation from Bastion where Alexander falls flat on his face with every screen transition.
Still prolly one of the best Wrongpuraes you guys have done. I can watch this and the KQV one over and over and laugh every time
A land of vague boundaries? Then Alexander will fit right in!
I love how the railing on the HMS Stalker blocks you from climbing up the ladder. Great 3D graphics design guys.
I wish diabeetus would bring out Jollo's voice more often.
It's second only to Ridley!
Dylan Beauchamp why didn't he just have the genie impersonate the princess and tell Alexander to fuck off?
Well, anyone named after the supposed writer of the Necronomicon is bound to be obviously evil.
Man, I never really thought of it before but the land of the green isles sucks. Civilisation basically consists of a really shitty pawn shop, a library, and a couple of houses. Outside of that it's basically pure anarchy.
You know it's bad news when the land is ruled by the man who wrote the Necronomicon.
"Not only am I a stalker, but I'm hallucinating as well" So this is what inspired cry of fear?
"I'll have the robot bird for a penny" ... oh well, i didn't think i was worth that little

This is almost 10 years old. Kill me.
It's crazy
Darkseed 2's RP had its 10th birthday a few months ago. It's wild how time flies.
It makes me reflect on how I haven't done anything with my life in the last ten years.
Is it just me or has Beef played all the random, weird awful games while Betus seemed to have played the actual fun games in his youth?
Totally fits their personalities, no?
Lol. It does. =]
I dunno, snatcher and dead to rights looked fun and interesting. Unless you just meant the Wrongpuraes
No I meant the wrongpuraes. Lol. Usually when beef asks if betus has played the bad game they're riffing, he says no and beef goes on to talk about how he played it as a kid. Lol
Amelia Blank ah ok. i misunderstood
"Alexander pulls out his magic map"
"Alexander feels a pulling sensation"
"Alexander hears someone coming"
Oh, I wonder who that could be.
And then, Frollo was a dogman
Diabetus also did commentary over this game in a Freelance Astronauts stream. I think that was maybe like 50-100 years ago.
10 year anniversary baby! Woooooo!
Great video guys! Also it may amuse you to know that there have actually been three Royal Navy ships called HMS Stalker, one in WWI and two in WWII. :D
Back for yearly viewing
I like to pretend they're still active and making stuff. :'|
Having two seperate uploads for segmented and full Retsupuraes (Or Wrongpuraes) is a good idea, can you do it to Darkseed 2?
Wait, I just realized the villain's name is Abdul Alhazred. Why is he named after the guy who wrote the Necronomicon? That doesn't make any sense.
***** That's more forgivable since the first AitD is apparently set in the Cthulhu Mythos universe, so it kinda makes sense.
Lol damn yall are really hating on this game talking about "Oh its just STEALING from other stories, how "clever" right?". I think they knew what they were doing lol. This is a good game, but one of those love-hate games you have when you young.
Don't forget that Disney built an empire off of stolen fairy tales. They're a much bigger perpetrator in that department.

I love this game but I do enjoy the hilarious commentary reminds me of MST3K
There are so many Disney voice actors in this game... It's amazing!
NOW THAT I HAVE SPOKEN I SHALL NOW GO SNORT SOME COCAINE
I sure hope Paul Lynde's estate got some money for Jollo's performance
Siegfried Kircheis Ed Wynn dude
For the time it was made the voice acting is pretty much the greatest thing ever.

King's Quest VI: The Quest for Poon (In the Tower)
Can't believe intros in old games were so long and procrastinating...
The narrator explains everything as if everyone is a Martian and can’t understand the concept of human nature
Whenever I get a ship in any game from today forward, it will be known as the HMS Stalker.
Is this one of those 90s things that was inadvertently responsible for the furries
2:49. The birth of Tinder.
Apparently so! This video was recorded before Tinder was even released. That's our Retsupurae, always oddly prophetic.

MrOzzylogisk It's "clever writing". Aka Roberta Williams want to impress you with how she's read books.
I always thought the dog's name was Captain Salad..
Ah, I should have guessed. Though when I played this, I was like eleven years old. :) And not much of a history buff.

The wisdom of Roberta holds no bounds lol
You can escape the "five senses" guards at any time by using the magic map that you had used to get to the island.
Frederic Forrest really got lost in that jungle.
Most of these voice actors in this game were pretty talented to begin with. Also I like that the pawn shop owner voices Lee in the Waking Dead game. Not to mention Coleman Townsend and Tony Jay to name a few
