My 18 month old LOVES farmer Grayce! Her dad is a farmer and the girl LOVES going out to see the tractors and ride in the skid loader! We tease that she will be “Farmer Harper” I love that she has a female farmer to look up to! You are great!
your method of taping is 100% correct. I've painted hundreds of cars with my brother when he was alive. And it may not affect you because of what your painting, we did cars, which are lower to the ground, so we spilled buckets of water on the floor around and under the vehicle so when painting down low it didn't kick up any dust from the floor, and the overspray would settle on the water. We always started from the top down. I would have primered the whole vehicle and it all needs to be scuffed and sanded so the paint has a surface to stick too.
It's lookin good guys, just a thought ...after priming your burn through spots if you guys use a self etching sealer that should give you a good base so the top coat won't react, plus it will bond well to the truck
Enjoy your show,i used to farm 16 yrs. worth ,had to get a job at a corp currently work at Vermeer a machinist started out on the paint line, anyway good luck to you!
It’s how you learn! 800 is to fine. 400 is good. Lifting is normal when you don’t use a sealer, let it cure, sand it, and just repaint….perhaps a sealer on those spots and let that cure before topcoat. Keep at it!
The paint lifting is likely caused by a few things. Partially not your fault. 1, when you don’t put some sort of primer or sealer over old lacquer truck paint you will have those solvent lifts. Also, always wipe the surface down using a wax and grease remover. Be careful when using the Bondo Spot filler since it’s a lacquer base. It will cause lifts as well. Another possibility would be from applying the paint too wet and fast. You want to apply medium wet coats and allow 10-15 minutes “flash” time in between coats.
It would help to pre-spray your surface with Bulldog Adhesion Promoter that will give it a tack for the paint. Also, any surface that is sanded to the base needs to have a couple of coats of primer!
Fun fact: I'm working on a large US air base in Germany and we have the same ladder in our office as you use in the Mack videos. Seems to be a pretty common product in the US. 😅 R.I.P. Winston 😢 I think you would have been better off using a proper degreaser and not the glass cleaner to clean the truck. Maybe the bubbling would not have happened then... Btw., I loooooooooove the color so much! I have copper-colored rims on my car. 🤘🏻
Wish I would have watched when I first saw this. First thing the whole truck should have been washed, then wiped down with paint thinner. Then whole truck sanded with 220 so new paint can grip. They have small foam spreaders for spot putty. Never heard of using glass cleaner. Might be ok for after sanding. Plus you need to wipe down with tack rags right before painting. Don’t be surprised when you see fish eyes In about a year, from using that fuel heater. One last thing, paint from top to bottom. Good Luck ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸💥
Looks like old Winston got into something he shouldn't have. Or maybe just didn't want to do sanding ?! Anyway, as you were teasing us with the paint colors, I was saying "oh please let it be burgundy", and you kinda heard me ! Color #2 would be my choice, but it sounds like you've decided against either of them in the end ? And I'm not a painter, but it looked like the paint maybe reacted with those areas that bubbled up like paint remover does ? Maybe use a primer/sealer over the whole cab before the top color ? Again, just stuff I've heard and learned during my 75 years living on this chunk of rock ! I like the learn-as-you-go attitude though, really. That's how I've survived after quitting school after 9th grade. There goes MY credibility, right ?😂 Anxious to see what you end up with--it'll be cool I'm sure 🙂
Bryan from Texas. Do you have a water/ oil separator in line. That does look like chemical reaction like a paint remover. But stay at it.Tryinig is better than not doing anything.
Nice love the home made paint booth Grayce but it should have had the incoming air being filtered so as not to suck in dust from the outside. But still it is very good
plastic goes by mill thickness 4 mil is thiner than 6 mill ,,, they also have 6 mill with nylon reinforces you see it use on construction for winter protections it stands up well , def more cost involved but will last a lot longer
Damn, Grayce is something else, just so damn gorgeous, like wow Gavin is one lucky dude, don’t ever let that one get away. She is my kind of girl, I’d give anything to find a girl like Grayce.
as a colour-blind person, your two "mystery" colours looked the same! No idea what the colour(s) are, but they looked bronze(ish) to me. Keep up the good work
Gd people will just say whatever on here even though they have no clue. Your paint lifted. It can happen for several different reasons and to heavy is one of them. However sanding the entire truck again was not necessary chances are you had 24-48 hours if not longer to top coat what you sprayed without having to sand. You did the right thing and stopped once you noticed the problem. Since you did sand it all. I would spray a sealer aka primer sealer over the whole thing, then spray my color, then spray my clear. Allowing sufficient flash time between coats recommended by whatever brand paint you are spraying. Always remember when you see a problem just stop. It’s always fixable in the moment. Once you spray clear you’re married to it at that point. For the internet know it all’s I’ve been painting classic cars since 2007 with multiple show winners to back up my work.
Probably the base coat was reactivated by the sanding which is a different brand of paint than what you wanting to apply. Unfortunately it’s real hard to repaint over unless it’s all resealed with a primer that’s the same brand of the new paint you gunna apply. Also if you ground the truck to the concrete floor it will help get rid of the dust particles in the air .
I was giong to say the glass cleaner is what caused that never seen that done before and i have painted quite a few cars and trucks always use a tack cloth to final wipe it before painting laquer thinner will do that with enamel paint need enamel reducer for the paint
Hey girl, take that plastic and put it directly into the trashcan. Buy yourself some white in color or silver to reflect light cheap plastic tarps and hang them on conduit just like you would do on a shower curtain and you can open them and close them much easier than trying to roll something up. Also, did you see the big puff of smoke that came out of the water heater when you first started it? That is no good using diesel fuel around paint work because of the dirt and oil it puts into the air what causes fisheye on your paint surface also, it’s hard to breathe after a while so use kerosene only. Cost more money, but is better for your health and the end product on your paint job . Just trying to help a girl out. Sincerely Heavy D from Pittsburgh ✌️😎💪🇺🇸
The Paint * Puckering* is caused by the Thinners in your new paint Reacting on the original paint. Usually suggests the original paint was ENAMAL and the Thinners you are using is for LAQUEER based paints Check wot your Primer is ( there are more than one type) and use their suggested Primer
Sorry. Should of said Use a PRIMER and THINNER to suit going over ENAMEL also to suit wot your Final Top Coat is going to be. ENAMEL again. Or. LAQUER based In the past I have used wot they call UNIVERSAL THINNERS ( does both paint types ) with no problems
@briansatchell2319 you also trained in fire science? I hand a coworker get burned real bad! Him and my uncle were burning up our old camp on a helicopter unit and he went to pour burn mix out of an un lided 5 gal. Fun to watch this video. It takes a lot of patience to attempt what you are doing. RIP Winston! I hope you guys have a great holiday!
That Bondo application is chef's kiss! 👌 Watching the truck transform step by step is so satisfying. Can't wait to see the final result! 🚛✨

If you wrap the string right around the conduit you can still use a string to raise and lower it.

Good project. Good music.
I feel bad that you and Gavin had a set back, guess that’s how it goes, can’t wait to see the finished project!!
Wet the floor down before painting and it keeps all the dust down when walking or dragging hoses on floor
Love that shade of pink on your finger nails... very Girly . 👍🙂
Use acetone or thinner to wipe down the truck before you paint.
Hi guys just wondering if you have a new painting video out . I haven't seen any but thought maybe i missed something
You need to primer seal the truck then wet sand and paint
Good Paint for you Truck and a good Time
Fun fact: The Mack R Model was a workhorse in the 80s, especially for long hauls and construction. A classic choice for restoration! 💪
