  • This driver was on his very first solo trip as a truck driver and when his GPS sent him down a road that's not the best for trucks, he tried to turn around to get back out to the main highway. Unfortunately he didn't pick the best turn around spot and the loose gravel along with an uneven shoulder caused him to bottom out and get stuck. It was just right down the road from my house so I brought the @zackliftinternational4841 out to get him back on the road. I had initially given him a price over the phone, but with the job being so close and done so quickly, along with his desire to learn a great attitude, I just told him no charge. He thought for sure that was a language miscommunication, so he even used @Google Translate to ask me in Russian. After thinking he was going to get stuck with a multi thousand dollar tow bill and lose his job on the very first load, he was incredibly relieved and even gave me a hug.
He asked for some advice on a few things, and after talking to him a bit, he asked if he could text me in the future for advice if needed and of course I said yes.
I also talked to his dispatcher to explain that it wasn't a big deal and was just some loose gravel, not stupid decisions that caused it..

Everyone is a rookie at some point, and none of us are born experts. Attitude is everything and luckily this guy has the right one. He was on his very first solo trip at a job he’s only been at for a week, and this mistake had him flustered, nervous, and scared that he was going to lose the job that he’s worked so hard to get.
Yes I could have charged his company for this winch out, and he even told me that he would pay me himself so that his boss wouldn’t get a big tow bill and fire him on his first trip, making it impossible to get another job, and therefore losing his work visa. The poor guy was tore up with the thought that he was about to lose all he's gone through to get to this point in his life. But after talking to him for a bit, and him asking for advice and tips on a few things, I just told him no charge. The relief on his face and the emotion that washed over him was priceless and worth every bit of it.
Hopefully this minor mistake is a good learning experience, and the helping hand is a good encouragement to stick with and enjoy the career that he’s worked so hard to get.
I told him he could text or call me any time for advice, and I really hope he does.

I've been trucking for a while now and lost a lot of respect for the industry. All too often, it's easy to blame the newbies and the foreigners for the decline of the trucking industry and develop a very toxic opinion.
But we all make mistakes and started from being a rookie. You just showed in this video that America is the greatest country in the world to learn, grow, and thrive. At least on the backroads of Oregon.
In many countries and parts of our own country, he would have been belittled, fined, overcharged for recovery, and likely fired.
Thanks for doing good like you do. It's far too rare. Truckers like me who hate the unprofessional CDL holders need to chill. You taught me a lesson as well. Thank you.

Sometimes it's hard to remember what it's like to be a rookie. The first time you look over to the passenger seat to ask a question and there's nobody there, it can be a terrifying experience. I teach at a CDL school now and it's done a lot to give me a better perspective and has really humbled me.

After almost 600k miles, its funny to look back and remeeber the nerves I had when learning to shift a 13 speed and maneuver the truck, thinking it would never be smooth and easy, even though i learned to drive a standard car when i was 16. Lack of Situational Awareness is probably the overall reason for more screw-ups with all drivers but especially new ones. When I first started, most of my tight problems occurred when I made a wrong turn onto a road or highway and needed to do a 180°. If a driver panics and makes a bad decision, like trying to turn around with a "u"ee on a highway instead of maybe adding 50miles out of route, he or she gets to meet people like Casey and the PERSON IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE RED STROBES behind the scene!!! The guys that trained me also pounded in that regardless of how remote or quiet the area seems to be, do not disobey the basic rules of the road.

I love seeing people’s reactions to being told they don’t owe you anything. So many people’s only interactions with the towing industry are them getting stuck with a multi-hundred-dollar bill (on the low end) because they made a mistake, parked in the wrong spot, etc.

Nice one, Casey! Think about putting yourself in that situation - moving to a different country, getting a commercial license and driving a truck to make a living for yourself. I think that break he got on the tab for his mistake and that quick airline repair was just what he needed to help dust himself off and get back on that horse!

In one interview, Bob Marley said that his blessing comes from helping people, from helping the little old lady cross the road, from helping the "little " person when they need it, from being kind to people.
Because of that he knows God will extend his blessings to his children. That is why ho could sing; "Not one of my seed, shall sit on the sidewalk and beg bread" Soh Jah Seh.
Casey, the good we all see you extend to people will follow your family for generations to come.
