Nice reaction dudes!!! As internet says: The line from the song's chorus, "If you're 555, then I'm 666" has nothing to do with Satanism. And it is characterized as: corrupt people - 555, people who sing not for the sake of money - 666
The song is a direct shot at the industry and the bullshit they pull behind the scenes.
Another interpretation can be whoever you have strife with in your life as being, "You're 555? Fuck you, I'm 666."
Corey has talked about those two interpretations many times.
This song is insane to hear live, especially during the chorus because you get the crowd chanting "If you're 555, then I'm 666" which just makes it more epic.

It's about time lol, I'm glad you finally get to this banger of a song! Joey's drumming on this song is relentless, I highly recommend you guys check out "Gently" from this album if you haven't already. It's different from every other song on Iowa.
Corey's screams on "Gently" are the most brutal screams he's ever done, he sounds like a literal monster lol. "Gently" is a very underrated song in Slipknot's discography, it's in my top 5 Slipknot songs! Great reaction guys, have a great weekend! 🤘🤘🤙🤙

It is speculated this song is about the industry and 555 is something they use in the movies for phone numbers as the area code a way to have a phone number in a movie without it being a real phone number you can see it in everything TV shows movies to this day

they played this song live on conan in 2001 and it was great . their current drummer jay weinberg was at that show and it was his first experience of slipknot and he loved them so much

I discovered this song by chance when I was I think 8. It blew my mind and made me a metalhead, and later on a music lover in general. If I hadn't heard one of my brother's friend mention it and looked for it on limewire I wouldn't be the person I am today.
Hadn't listened to it in a few years, and goddamn. It still grooves like mad and kicks some major ass
It ain't Slipknot, but Stone Sour has done some great covers. "Outshined", 'Unchained", "Bombtrack", "Gimme Shelter", "Creeping Death" and "Seasons In The Abyss" deserve particular attention.

555 is the number for Angels, often referred as The Neighbor of the Beast which is 666. That's not what Corey is talking about but that's what it really means.
I remember catching them perform this song on Late Night with Conan O'Brien waaaaay back in the day. This was before DVRs back when you couldn't get the episodes on the internet, so it was completely by accident. By far the best late show performances I've ever seen to this very day. That was Slipknot in their prime. And of course this was way before Jay Weinberg joined the band... but his dad Max and the "Max Weinberg 7" were Conan's studio band at the time.
So this song kinda has a double meaning. It is going with the against religion thing but it was also a kind of slap back to the naysayers in the music industry at the time that Slipknot were having to deal with. Cause even after their first album was successful, they still had people saying they were a flash in the pan with no long lasting potential. This was them basically saying "you know what, we are everything you're not and what ever it is you think we are, you're wrong" I've also read that it was somewhat directed toward the president of Sony records, who they were originally going to sign with, until the president or CEO or whatever saw their audition and sent a memo out that basically said "do not sign this band and if this is the future of music, I don't want to be alive anymore" and apparently when Slipknot went platinum, they sent him a bouquet of either black roses or dead roses (can't remember which) and basically said well we're the future of music!🤣🤣🤣

disclaimer: I still love Slipknot, but it’s hard to jam some of their “fuck the system” songs when I can buy a Corey Taylor action figure and No. 9 whiskey 🤦🏻
I can get behind them selling merch and masks, I can even let the toy figures slide. When they started selling their own brand of whiskey, that rubbed me the wrong way. These guys not only struggled with their own addictions, but also they lost people in their lives to substance abuse. Then they turned around and started selling the shit to fans. That to me reeks of hypocrisy. It's obvious it's all about money at this point. I will always enjoy Slipknot's older music, but I have a hard time getting behind this band these days.

We all have faults/opportunities, but like, they could maybe put the money into rehabilitation and helping the community in that way instead of just marketing alcohol and consumable figurines. I completely support growing a brand but it contradicts the first two albums entirely. Fantastically talent musicians who seem to always mean well with their intentions as a collective, it’s just an odd choice to me.
555 is a reference to being generic. 666 is a reference to being something other than expected.

Sup fellas. I came back to say that if y’all are planning on reacting to the song Iowa anytime soon, do some research on it first. It had a crazy back story. Not only what the song is about, but what corey was going through when he recorded it. He was cutting himself with glass, making himself puke and all kinds of shit during the recording of it. It’s a wild ride and takes your head to a fucked up place. They only performed this song once I believe at knot fest and it took a toll on Corey. You can tell afterwards. Can’t wait for y’all’s reaction to it 👍
This song was a fuck you to the music industry. They meant heretic as nobody wanted them, and then they blew up and every label wanted them. Less to do with heretic in a religious sense and more to do with being a heretic in a societal sense.

If an album with over 250m sales with this as the main single with 140m downloads (known of Spotify only) in the middle of the height of limewire and Napster can’t be considered a masterpiece I don’t know what can be. Who knows how many millions of downloads this song actually had this is what blew slipknot up but their first album was fire too.
