I dropped in a 4 bolt main 5.7 Vortec in my 1992 Chevy Z71 and it made a huge difference and a Holley sniper unit integrates perfect in those old TBI setups they are a great EFI very simple but a bitch to tune i bought a pre programmed chip for mine which helped a ton
I’m wanting to do a small turbo and do a torque oriented build. I’m pretty sure it’s possible because there’s upgrades you can do to a TBI. I’m thinking vortec heads and a decent intake and turn the fuel regulator up and swap a better fuel pump and there ya go. What gave me this idea was horsepower TV and that big block ford build. I also like the TBI’s because they just work. I personally know no one that’s had issues with them besides the lack of power.
Wow that things an animal!! Yeah I have a 92 blazer stock manual that I've been working on but your's got me 🤔 bout going back to the drawing board. Hey great build!!

This thing is sweet, you can buy tbi chips if you don't want to buy the hardware to burn them yourself, price is pretty much the same so might as well learn to tune them.
You need EBL Flash II, you can run a 3 Bar MAP for boost and flash tune it. Slap Some vortec heads on there and a mild roller cam and you’ll see into the 400s
@@pops3554you must have aftermarket heads or had the machine shop work over the stock vortec heads. They flow good, but unless you get some machining done to the valve guides to clear a cam higher than .450 lift you’re not gonna make 400hp. I have a vortec 350 swapped into my truck, it makes ~320hp with stock heads, bored tbi, bigger injectors, vortec fuel pump, a high rise dual plane intake, a summit 8800 roller cam (204/214 at 050 with 450/450 lift), and 2.5” dual with an x pipe. With boost and a 3 bar MAP it can see up closer into the high 400s.
Oh bud lol the timing shud be in negative numbers below 1000 rpm. Around 0 only after u give it gas. I build those quiet often. I raise the rpm to 1000 then set my. Timing at 8btdc. Without jumping any wires to lock the timing. That varies with ignition modules. Some are set closer to 0. But sbc is what I rebuild the most, and own one with tbi, by negative I meant btdc range. Positive would be after tdc
Parts list? I have a never ending project 88 burb I just put 3/4 ton axles and a vortec 350 bt I put my old tbi unit on top. Actually just drove it back home today. I love doing different stuff to it and this is giving me another idea lol
@johndelta00 I just looked that up. Looks like a really nice setup and very tunable. I did not realize anybody made such a tunable program for TBI's! Thanks for the comment! I will likely pickup that program/chip.
Those oil pressure gauges absolutely lie! Mine said around 35lbs hot at cruise running 15w-40 Diesil oil, and when i put a manual gauge in hooked to the oil gally port above the oil filter it read 50lbs. Mind you my 305 has 287,000 miles on it, so youve got atleast 45-50lbs of oil pressure. Also stock timing on those tbi engines is 0° at idle, and 16° total timing. So you dont really have to adjust it,its so low factory it wont hurt anything running 8 psi and 16° of timing on pump gas.
This is really rad! Awesome video this is gonna help me turbo my 4.3 in my 86 2 door jeep! Where do you hook up your resistor?? I'd love to run a simular set up without tuning my ecu. Would love to talk back and forth with ya!
MonsterEatsMeCookies- The resistor is in line with the coolant temp sensor circuit (wired in series). On factory TBI's there's 2 different temp sensors, one for the gauge (driver side head) and one for the ECU (intake manifold by T-stat). Otherwise the rising rate fuel pressure regulator (rrfpr) takes care for most of the fueling (aftermarket regulator plumbed into the fuel return line). To bypass factory regulator simply remove the spring from the built in tbi regulator. It's been surprisingly reliable. Thanks for the comment.
My good man, mind telling me what the model number on that fuel pressure regulator is? Was going to do this on my '94 stepside with a blow-thru carb, didn't know the tbi could handle it with an fpr. I'm not in it for max power anyway, just some grunt and choo-choo noises lol. I've already got a Vortec pump so this will be perfect for it.
friend, can you help me please, I have a Chevrolet suburban 1500 5.7 vortec 1996, I made the TBI carburetor and distributor, I had the camshaft altered a bit in stage 2 and I put an aluminum radiator with electric fans (the problem is that it It heats up after 15 or 20 minutes and the time according to the mark on the pulley is not left, I move the distributor and not Measure the time) What is the problem? can you help me
I'm building one right now for boost. Must ask did u regap the rings. That's what I'm at right now. My OE ring gap was very tight, .015 and tighter, not idea for turbo
@2Discover EDM I did not gap the rings. Not sure what a good spec is for a 350. I've been looking into doing a 5.3L LS build and it sounds like a good ring gap for boost is .025"-.030". Good luck with the build.
@@1985hond125 those specs are exactly what I am aiming for on gapping my rings. Good luck to you. Ls is a beast. Feels nice, then they have direct injected Ls motors, the are crazy fast for plain stock Ls. But we cant afford those or we would have them
@Rusty RoadTrips- No prom mods (yet). Computer is bone stock. Only mods to keep fueling safe is the rising rate fuel pressure regulator and the variable resistor to make the computer think it is cold (cold=more fuel).
@@1985hond125 Did you make any mods to the tbi to hold boost at all? Like sealing the rubber grommet for the injector wires or modifying the throttle linkage at all?
@@rustyroadtrips The wires are actually pretty well sealed with the factory grommet. My throttle shaft was rather tight so I did not do anything to it. For the tbi/carb "hat" I used a light coat of silicone on the mounting surfaces.
Eh. They're rated for 15psi and then regulated.... new. Most of them push 10psi. Best thing to do is add a fuel pressure gauge and adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
@cmbrewer84 The previous owner had the nv3500 swapped in. However, if you can find a similar year 5 speed truck (k1500 pickup) at the junk yard you can snag everything you need to do the swap and make it look factory. The NV3500 has been a good trans.

Definitely make a more detailed breakdown of the gauge/electrical setup with that resistor
Anyone figure this out

The resistor is to fool the ecu into thinking the engine is cold so it adds fuel I assume?
