Hey Jason, I've been watching you for years and got caught up in your new PCT adventure. I got into very low-key backpacking a few years ago. Last weekend. I took my daughters, 15 years old and 13 years old. They had been asking me to do it and I decided it was time. Just an overnighter, but nonetheless real backpacking into the backcountry. We walked into the forest on Saturday and walked out on Sunday, setting up camp in a little open space under the trees. It was a real, achievable challenge for them and they loved it (along with some complaining). Vastly less ambitious than your odyssey, but you were in no small part an inspiration and I thought of you as we hiked. Thanks for the example and best of luck on the PCT!
How fun
I remember those creek crossings when the water was filled with snow melt. Like you say, it feels like nails being pounded into your feet.
What I did was stop and put my socks and insoles into the front pocket of my pack, then I crossed with my bare feet in the shoes.
When I got to the other side, I sat down, dried my feet with a pack towel, put the dry socks on, wrung out the shoes, and then put the dry insoles into the damp shoes, followed by my feet in dry socks. Sure, the socks got a little damp and the exercise ate into my daily mileage, but it made a huge difference in how my feet felt.
Once the blood started flowing to my feet again, the dampness in the socks dried quickly.
i was thinking the same but they probably want to keep moving and make miles// we either carry sandals or go barefoot and dry off like you but only doing like 8 miles we have time. i bet it would still be worth it though
Tomatoes are high in potassium. You hit the nail on the head! Leafy greens, oranges, and apricots are other good sources.
That was a rough one. GREAT JOB!!!
Your strength and commitment to the trail is amazing! The snow and water crossings seam nearly endless. It good you have a trail family to help pull and push each other through. Adding more calorie and more sleep is a win win for gaining more energy. Stray strong be safe Frozen!!
Hang in there! You are strong!
Vitamin c and adrenal support is worth looking into. Five time PCT finisher here. Seriously pay attention to your cravings. I almost died in Bear creek one year. It was chest deep.😮
Tomatoes have lots of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients like phosphorus, potassium, folate, and vitamin A, C and K, fiber, etcetera. Yay for eating some!
A good pair of seal socks sure be worth weight in all those crossing n trail melt, happy trails 🎉
Agreed. I used neoprene socks when wading in below freezing temperatures during 36 hr races I have done. The best foot solution for cold water.
It used to take me 10 + minutes to get used to frigid ocean water off the California coast in my teens before I could swim and body surf due to the severe leg pain from the cold water. I really do get your suffering through those stream crossings. It's Hard!
One PCT hiker was using waterproof socks and inserts. Maybe that helped him.
And with every stream crossing you are that much closer to Canada, Rooting for you Frozen (appropriate trail name for this part of the PCT) super proud of you! 👍
You looked so tired in this video. As soon as it started, I said "he looks so tired!" Hang in there. I'm glad these are 2 weeks behind so I know you're okay.
I could only imagine how tough those snow sections are, especially at the end of the day when you are tired. I can tell it is taking a toll on you and how much energy the lower elevation and woods hiking gives you. The stream crossings are a mix bag it seems. Some of the most beautiful waterfalls while also being worried about trying to cross and your feet freezing. You are one mentally tough dude thats for sure! Good motivation for me to push harder when I feel like giving up. Keep it up man you are killing it!
P.S. I wonder if snowshoes would help in the snow. Kind of not fair that Bigfoot is basically wearing them with his size 14 shoe, lol.
😂 I think snowshoes at the end of the Sierra when it really warmed up might have been a good decision, but lugging them around with ice spikes seemed overkill to me.
I have been watching you a long time and you are looking more thin then your normal. Your wifey was right about what she sees. Gotta find ways to eat more and get more rest on this trail it seems. Take care of yourself and hike on!
Just saw this on fb: Hiker rescue from Taboose Pass plus a reminder about conditions on Taboose, Sawmill, Baxter and Shepherd Pass from Inyo SAR. These four passes are not always the best bailout options.
You are doing awesome!!! Definetly need more vitamins, probably calories aswell. Keep taking them in the morning
Really appreciate you taking us along on your journey. Documenting, editing, uploading, battery management, I don’t know how you do it. Especially after a long day of hiking. Kudos!! And thank you
Holy stream crossings🫣😳but what beauty nature provides ❤those falls were majestic ❤❤❤
Stunning scenery! You’re doing great, keep going!
I’m proud of you! You’ve got this!
I liked that you stopped to smell the “roses”. It’s important to have those “moments to regard” as Shug would say.
Tomatoes have vitamin C. Maybe get more? Also don't forget iron. Keep rocking along!
I'm taking iron pills.
There are sunshine and rainbows? Take care Frozen.
Thank you for sharing the tough times as well. I enjoy each video you share and watch them while walking on my treadmill, and pretending I’m on the trail also. I’ll never be able to do these adventures so I appreciate you sharing the beauty, the good times, and the hard days!!
If it was easy, everyone would do it. It’s the hard that makes it great. You’ve got this.
Been watching your videos daily and it's such an inspiration. Hoping to do the PCT myself one day. Keep it up! One day at a time.
Frozen: Haha, watch there'll be another huge stream right before camp or somethin'...
Stream crossing: Hahaha!
Hey Jason, you are truly earning your trail name with all these creek crossings. Watching you hike has me wishing I was 30 years younger and never smoked.
Jason, you are earning this. Keep on pushing, we are rooting for you, and enjoying this hike
1903 Taphouse!
Man I would get tired of all that beautiful scenery 😊😊😊
If you are craving tomatoes my guess is you are lacking vitamin C. Can you pack out a couple mandarin oranges maybe? Or green veg of some kind (dehydrated and add to your daily lunch ramen perhaps)?
Yay! This is exactly what I needed before going to bed, cheers mate, looking forward to watching this as a bedtime story. Happy trails!
For many reasons I can’t walk the trail so thanks for taking us all along with you.
The scenery is phenomenal! Crossing the streams looks brutal. Hopefully sleep and lower altitude will help you feel better. Safe travels.
Love your videos! Happy Trails!
Beautiful section…thanks for bring us along!
i know its rough but im still so happy to see you out in the BIG stuff/ Rox and i hike a lot but we need these videos of the stuff we cant do and you are really making some of the best PCT vids ever. man i bet those falls at 16:15 are a trickle most summers, tough to hike in all this but you sure are seeing some really cool water flows out there thanks so much for sharing
All in all a beautiful hike sir. I am so glad you have a few good folks to hike with. It would mean a lot to me if I was there just saying. Hard to beat sharing the experience for all of you. Love it.
TRY TO FIND SOME NEOPRENE SOCKS FOR CROSSINGS!
I have them. I'm past needing them though.
I think that the altitude is affecting your body.
I sure enjoy watching your progress. Prayers for safety! I hope I can help out when you reach section P.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! YOU GOT THIS!
Youve got this dude. Im so proud of you 😂
Neoprene socks are great when wading in cold water, So much more warm. Also, I am wondering if your nutrition is lacking because of all the low quality food that you are eating. Good that you are getting more sleep finally
Thank you!
Go!
Very cool ❤
Thanks ☺️ for your hardwork and sharing this gorgeous trail with us. This is my favorite PCT vlog. 🩵 FYI: LMNT has potassium & magnesium perfect drink mix for hiking. 🥾
Thanks for that!
I've been using Grinds coffee Chews
FIRST BRISKET!!?! You are truly missing out!!!
It was sooo good
You should be using plastic bags for water crossings…
If you want more energy add more animal fat to your meals. Butter/ghee(flavorful) or lard(bland) are an easy way to do that and don't actually have to be kept cold. But if you're going to go the butter route I suggest putting it in a zip lock as it will get softer than lard and you can add it to your morning coffee for a quick boost. If you find a butcher shop in a town see if you can't get the fat trimmings and you can make your own beef tallow and fat bytes on the trail. It's healthier than what we were told growing up. Animal fat doesn't equal body fat it equals quick energy.
Tomatoes are high in electrolytes as well as most of the vitamins found in apples.
Does the snow in this area ever melt? Beautiful scenery but I don't like snow.
Type 2 fun? 😄 🐻🌲 Just keep walkin!
So Toes is using a hammock. What does he do when there are no trees to hang? I love my hammock, BTW.
He cowboy camps when he can't hammock. He also has a hammock tarp if it rains.
You look beat!
Aaannnnd sleep
You need more calories and more vitamins
Great stuff, we really appreciate what you’re doing as the extra work for video’s and content. Much appreciated! Off note during camp talk and particular trail pants come to mind that seem to work better than others? Thanks in advance
Liking the new balance accelerate with liner if that's what you are asking. Probably won't last a full thru hike, but they are comfortable and they dry very fast.
@@FrozensAdventures Thanks for the response, I was more concerned about Trail Pants in the Sierra section, due to colder temps compared to shorts. Any pants seem to be more popular or work better than others. Often times during camp many discussions about gear and clothing are discussed. Again thanks really appreciate your content, looking at the PCT for 2025 🤙🏽
With that much snow, is it difficult to navigate where the trail is? Or do you rely on your Far out app? Thanks for bringing us along on your adventure! I've been following you for a while and I'm so happy your dream to do this hike came true!
Keep it up Jason, we are rooting for you!!! What sunglasses are you wearing? They look comfortable but are not on your lighterpack list.
So, dumb question... Why are you going on the side trails over the passes and not on the PCT? Epic views?
We are on the PCT. Sometimes though the PCT is too dangerous with the snow angle so you have to make your own route that makes sense. There are no side trails that we are doing.
Shouldn't you guys lock arms, face the current, and side step across the sketchy water crossings?
For some deeper ones yes. But we have been ok so far.
If you were going to do this trail again would you hike from the Mexican border to Kennedy Meadows and then flip/skip the Sierra do Nor Cal, Oregon and Washington and then finish your hike in the Sierra in August/September?
Not sure yet.
Do you do electrolytes? powder you Pour into water bottle?
Are you able to have open camp fires on the PCT to warm up and dry out?
What program r u using for editing on the trail? Been watching you since we met on the SHT when you were doing your through hike.
Kinemaster. I used it on the AT as well.
Thanks!
7 hrs is not enough, bro.
Which time of Year is this... sorry I'm just tapping in on the EP.
What did bigfoot call you? Do you have a new trail name?
OMG I think you need more meat...protein not carbs. Get yourself some sugar free jerky .
Not a big jerky fan. I'm eating about 3 protein bars a day. Plus the protein and fats in mixed nuts. Making it up in town.
