normally emperors are used to represent 4 sides or 1 dynasty of each side. its not 3 and its not 5. the emperor system started when shanks emerged as one of the strongest pirate crew. since theres 4 it is balance between top tier pirates. come to think of it sengoku and garp was the previous leaders of marines and gorosei was there already. why is it that theres no emperors system in rogers era? because its only rogers and rocks that are on the top. after rocks got disbanded there was no top tier pirate crew left other than rogers. let me add this up. once luffy was crowned as pirate king there wont be emperor system again. king and emperors cannot co-exist. since being pirate king is the greatest title they could get in onepiece world.
The more I learn about the God Valley incident the more I think that the Rocks crew wasnt a literal pirate crew but rather an Ocean's Eleven style assortment of crazy people who came together for the ultimate heist.
I find it interesting that the old yonko (big mom, kaido and whitebeard mostly) were never really a active threat or went after the world goverment unless provoked, but the new yonko are more willing to challenge the goverment and this time thanks to fujitora there is no warlords of the sea to stop them... and the seraphim don't seem like they are strong enough just yet

Luffy and shanks having a Davy back fight on elbaf seems highly likely to me since it would be the perfect contrast to the one on long ring long land. One island known for everything being stretched horizontally and one for everything being stretched vertically. Their joint history makes it also more plausible to have a friendly competition wit serious stakes instead of a war.

Shanks is such a weird character to me cuz he doesn't feel like a pirate in any capacity, much less an emperor. He gave his arm and captains hat to some kid he barely knew, doesn't care about plundering or claiming anything, stated that he wouldn't be doing his duties as an emperor if they let barto get away with burning their flag like it's his job, said that they should go after the one piece AFTER luffy became an emperor implying that they could've done it at anytime. But most importantly, Shanks stopped the war of the best simply by being there and got the fleet admiral Sengoku who is from the same era as Rocks, Roger, Garp etc to agree with him saying "only because it's you" even though Shanks really shouldn't have that level of clout. Also, Shanks met with the freakin Gorosei for a conversation even though most kings of nations can barely manage it. So yea, I like Shanks but he's probably not a true pirate/emperor.

Actually in a SBS, Oda stated that the Yonko system appears because Roger left a power vacuum, in terms of power it would be. And the 1st "Yonko" is considered big mom, having the biggest territory and crew Rocks Era/threat ---> Roger Era/threat ----> the Yonko system appears because of a stalemate ( all 4 are evenly matched)
I really like the vibe of this video and the way it's written a lot more than the chapter reviews or the what-ifs are written. Those videos are fun too but there's just something about the writing in this video and your delivery. I have to imagine the Yonko that Shanks took over for was another Rocks Pirate like Silver Axe or maybe one we haven't heard of yet.
Before I finish the rest of this video I HAVE to say: Blackbeard didn't become emperor by defeating the rest of WB crew, he became Emperor because he snatched up all WB's territories before anyone else could. Having been on WB's crew before, he was familiar with all the territories and as such he could quickly claim WB's seat. Beating the WB remnants was only a small part of it, because if he only defeated all of them and didn't claim any territories, he would not have been named Emperor.
The Four Emperors of the Sea are a group of four pirates who make up 'The Great Power'. The current group consists of Red-Haired Shanks, Blackbeard, Straw Hat Luffy, and Buggy the Star Clown. Together these people rule over specific territories of the New World.
The yonko titles seem to be a great way to pit haki users against each other and create some neutral ground for the marines to focus on more active pirates. The mistake that changed it was trying to nip another gold roger in the bud and provoking whitebeard. No other factor was taken into consideration. The amount of marines also seem to have gotten in the way otlf the admirals and garps that could have deal with the threat. As for buggy, I think that both Shanks and the Roger pirates wanted more for him and and either waiting for him to go for the one piece and see what his captain saw or help him get some great treasure at said island. For all we know Roger's ship could be his greatest treasure or the treasure chest he found Shanks in.
He forgot to mention. The yonkos holding onto the road poneglyphs isn't really the main hurdle most pirates face when trying to find laughtale. The thing is u need to go into yonkos territory and beyond just to get to roadstar which then let's u know u need to find the poneglyphs to reach the true final island. So the yonkos aren't just road blocks for the road poneglyphs but even the information that their necessary. I'm still curious how kid knows their important. Blackbeard seems to have some hidden knowledge, shanks was part of Rogers crew, big mom and kaido were part of rocks and may have reached road star on their own at one point, even law learned about it with the strawhat. But kid? Where the hell did he learn he needs them in the first place. I doubt that's info pirates go around talking about if they know
People forget that it took so many marines at Marineford because each emporor is basically in control of the same amount of men as the WG. Its not The Emporors vs The World Government, its every emporor for themselves with the WG as a fifth player.
That's what alot of people don't understand about the 'War of the Best', it was just Shirohige's fleet with allied captains. Luffys grandfleet is 5000 strong, but that pales in comparison to Shirohige's fleet.
The first time I’ve heard someone say that Big Mom may actually have been stronger than Kaido… hmmm. After rewatching the fights on Wano he might be right! When Big Mom was around, things were DANGEROUS. She did get knocked off the edge because her mind seems to be super fragmented, and she lapsed in judgment, but her abilities were absolutely insane. Her Haki insane. Her durability has to be second to only Kaido as well. Kaido is a powerhouse, but his attack prowess may’ve been lesser than Lin Lin’s. His attack variety is certainly lesser so. Her attacks were insanely devastating as well as much harder to dodge. Something to consider for sure.

Shanks must know that Gol D Roger said they were too early to find the One Piece so Shank has been carrying his will all this time to ultimately help Luffy find the one piece. Maybe he has been waiting for Luffy to get to this stage so he can carry out Roger’s will with the person Roger spoke about 🤷🏻♂️
I have believed for some time now, and still do, that Buggy will be the true Pirate King. Because let's be honest here. Shanks and Black Beard won't. No matter what, I can't see any future where either of them really becomes the Pirate King. And Luffy, even if he always says he wants to be the Pirate King, his true dream is something else. Something that we don't even know. Only his crew, Ace, Sabo, Shanks and Caribou know of. (And I am not sure if even Shanks knows). We have known for a while that for him, the Pirate King title only means the most free man alive. Which is what he wants. He doesn't really care about being a king. But Buggy does. And I can see our beloved clown very well becoming the Pirate King while all others struggle to understand how the hell he got there.

Luffy doesn't want to be the Pirate king to BE the KING of Pirates. He wants to be the pirate King because for him, the Pirate King is the most free person in the world. He doesn't want to rule. In fact, it's literally the opposite. He wants to be free and for everybody else to be free. That's why I say Buggy might end up as the "official" Pirate King.

I think the problem is that Oda made us believe a "yonko" should be powerful while in actuality being rendered one is because of simply influence not individual strength.

You cannot move against another Yonko or against the WG without exposing your flanks to the other 3 groups that can target you (like Kaido tried to do at Marineford, like Shanks did to Kaido preventing him to go to Marineford, like future Emperor Blackbeard actually did at Marineford). Yonko A attacks Yonko B, then Yonko C and D and the WG can either third party the battle to capitalize on the extremely weakened victor (even a really weak crew at that point (compared to a Yonko fleet) was able to do it successfully), or attack Yonko A's territory. Let's imagine Shanks didn't stop Kaido. Of course, since he was probably attempting to capitalize on the aftermath of the Shirohige-WG battle, he might have only taken a token force (like Shanks did, it was only his flagship). But he must have taken many of his big hitters away from Wano. What if Big Mom had full-force attacked Wano at that same moment? Or even easier, what if she had gone against the unprotected Whitebeard's territory? That's why they don't move, they are stuck in a permanent Mexican standoff

A descendant of the Kozuki clan. Momo. 3. The smartest scientist in the world. VegaPunk. Potential 4th, the third eye which is/was owned by Big Mom. With another potential being Luffy (awakened 3rd eyes have the ability to hear the voices of all things). Luffy has been shown to hear the voices of all things similar to Roger.
Kaidou is not "true evil", he was born in war torn poverty and had to fight every moment of his life to survive. And even after becoming the strongest warrior of his country in a never ending war, he was sold to the world government further fueling his hate. He became strongly Anti-Establishment, Anti-Authority and sought to gather enough power to one day defeat the the WG. In fact Luffy carries the same Anti-Establishment, Anti-Authority philosophy as Kaidou, just that he also represents Existentialism, the idea that one should have the freedom to live life the way they want. Kaidou realised his defeat and purpose as he saw that Luffy's dream was not just similar to his, but much more vast in scope. Luffy wasn't fighting just for personal freedom, he was fighting for the freedom of the world. Kaidou realised his true purpose was to one day lose to the person who would become Joyboy, someone's who's love for freedom is greater than his, one who would free the world. And realising this gave him closure as his dream will be achieved by Joyboy.

The summary is that such alliances end up being fragile, and then turn on each other. Something the WG is unconsciously relying on 24/7. The Gorosei themselves were worried about KAIDO knocking on their door, and were genuinely frightened when he and Big Mom formed an alliance. **Spoilers**: The alliance slowly falls apart from numerous backstabbers (from both sides), and even CP Aegis 0 had intervened to an extent. Luffy's victory. If the Yonkou can keep their alliances stable, and exclusively prioritize their forces into toppling the WG, they may have a chance of winning, not without heavy casualties of course.
I always thought 4 Emperors meant the top 4 closest to finding the One Piece. Cause there were Yonko level pirates like Shiki who wasn't close to the One Piece.
I think rocks was the last person to get the gum gum fruit but he turned to the dark side of what the gum gum fruit could do. And so garp and Roger had to defeat him. After hundreds of years of avoiding the government it finally got found decades after defeating rocks they got their hands on it until shanks stole it back and ultimately luffy consumed it. Seeing the heart that luffy had and the want for freedom shanks decided to use that for his benefit down the line

I believe Buggy has more "soft" power than Crocodile or Mihawk. When he says he is gonna get the one piece and Cross Guild members rejoice, there is not much Crocodile or Mihawk can do to prevent that. They on the other hand, are the heavy hitters of Cross Guild.

Before I finish the rest of this video I HAVE to say: Blackbeard didn't become emperor by defeating the rest of WB crew, he became Emperor because he snatched up all WB's territories before anyone else could. Having been on WB's crew before, he was familiar with all the territories and as such he could quickly claim WB's seat. Beating the WB remnants was only a small part of it, because if he only defeated all of them and didn't claim any territories, he would not have been named Emperor.

The yonko titles seem to be a great way to pit haki users against each other and create some neutral ground for the marines to focus on more active pirates.
The mistake that changed it was trying to nip another gold roger in the bud and provoking whitebeard. No other factor was taken into consideration.
The amount of marines also seem to have gotten in the way otlf the admirals and garps that could have deal with the threat.
As for buggy, I think that both Shanks and the Roger pirates wanted more for him and and either waiting for him to go for the one piece and see what his captain saw or help him get some great treasure at said island.
For all we know Roger's ship could be his greatest treasure or the treasure chest he found Shanks in.

He forgot to mention. The yonkos holding onto the road poneglyphs isn't really the main hurdle most pirates face when trying to find laughtale. The thing is u need to go into yonkos territory and beyond just to get to roadstar which then let's u know u need to find the poneglyphs to reach the true final island. So the yonkos aren't just road blocks for the road poneglyphs but even the information that their necessary. I'm still curious how kid knows their important. Blackbeard seems to have some hidden knowledge, shanks was part of Rogers crew, big mom and kaido were part of rocks and may have reached road star on their own at one point, even law learned about it with the strawhat. But kid? Where the hell did he learn he needs them in the first place. I doubt that's info pirates go around talking about if they know

People forget that it took so many marines at Marineford because each emporor is basically in control of the same amount of men as the WG. Its not The Emporors vs The World Government, its every emporor for themselves with the WG as a fifth player.
That's what alot of people don't understand about the 'War of the Best', it was just Shirohige's fleet with allied captains.
Luffys grandfleet is 5000 strong, but that pales in comparison to Shirohige's fleet.

The first time I’ve heard someone say that Big Mom may actually have been stronger than Kaido… hmmm. After rewatching the fights on Wano he might be right! When Big Mom was around, things were DANGEROUS. She did get knocked off the edge because her mind seems to be super fragmented, and she lapsed in judgment, but her abilities were absolutely insane. Her Haki insane. Her durability has to be second to only Kaido as well. Kaido is a powerhouse, but his attack prowess may’ve been lesser than Lin Lin’s. His attack variety is certainly lesser so. Her attacks were insanely devastating as well as much harder to dodge. Something to consider for sure.

I have believed for some time now, and still do, that Buggy will be the true Pirate King. Because let's be honest here. Shanks and Black Beard won't. No matter what, I can't see any future where either of them really becomes the Pirate King. And Luffy, even if he always says he wants to be the Pirate King, his true dream is something else. Something that we don't even know. Only his crew, Ace, Sabo, Shanks and Caribou know of. (And I am not sure if even Shanks knows). We have known for a while that for him, the Pirate King title only means the most free man alive. Which is what he wants. He doesn't really care about being a king. But Buggy does. And I can see our beloved clown very well becoming the Pirate King while all others struggle to understand how the hell he got there.

But for him, being the Pirate King is not the same as for everybody else (As shown in that chapter at the end of Dressrosa where they all get confused by his definition of Pirate King). Luffy doesn't want to be the Pirate king to BE the KING of Pirates. He wants to be the pirate King because for him, the Pirate King is the most free person in the world. He doesn't want to rule. In fact, it's literally the opposite. He wants to be free and for everybody else to be free. That's why I say Buggy might end up as the "official" Pirate King.

I think the problem is that Oda made us believe a "yonko" should be powerful while in actuality being rendered one is because of simply influence not individual strength.

yeah, Oda kinda played with our expectations there, making us think being a "yonko" is all about raw power when it's more about influence.
0:54 I will answer that now, to see if we agree when we get there. Because they also keep each other in check. You cannot move against another Yonko or against the WG without exposing your flanks to the other 3 groups that can target you (like Kaido tried to do at Marineford, like Shanks did to Kaido preventing him to go to Marineford, like future Emperor Blackbeard actually did at Marineford). Yonko A attacks Yonko B, then Yonko C and D and the WG can either third party the battle to capitalize on the extremely weakened victor (even a really weak crew at that point (compared to a Yonko fleet) was able to do it successfully), or attack Yonko A's territory.
Let's imagine Shanks didn't stop Kaido. Of course, since he was probably attempting to capitalize on the aftermath of the Shirohige-WG battle, he might have only taken a token force (like Shanks did, it was only his flagship). But he must have taken many of his big hitters away from Wano. What if Big Mom had full-force attacked Wano at that same moment? Or even easier, what if she had gone against the unprotected Whitebeard's territory?
That's why they don't move, they are stuck in a permanent Mexican standoff

Kaidou is not "true evil", he was born in war torn poverty and had to fight every moment of his life to survive. And even after becoming the strongest warrior of his country in a never ending war, he was sold to the world government further fueling his hate. He became strongly Anti-Establishment, Anti-Authority and sought to gather enough power to one day defeat the the WG.
In fact Luffy carries the same Anti-Establishment, Anti-Authority philosophy as Kaidou, just that he also represents Existentialism, the idea that one should have the freedom to live life the way they want. Kaidou realised his defeat and purpose as he saw that Luffy's dream was not just similar to his, but much more vast in scope. Luffy wasn't fighting just for personal freedom, he was fighting for the freedom of the world.
Kaidou realised his true purpose was to one day lose to the person who would become Joyboy, someone's who's love for freedom is greater than his, one who would free the world. And realising this gave him closure as his dream will be achieved by Joyboy.

One of the biggest reasons why the WG hasn't been destroyed by them, is something that Nico Robin said in Punk Hazard; specifically regarding Pirate Alliances. The summary is that such alliances end up being fragile, and then turn on each other. Something the WG is unconsciously relying on 24/7.
The Gorosei themselves were worried about KAIDO knocking on their door, and were genuinely frightened when he and Big Mom formed an alliance.
**Spoilers**: The alliance slowly falls apart from numerous backstabbers (from both sides), and even CP Aegis 0 had intervened to an extent. Luffy's victory.
If the Yonkou can keep their alliances stable, and exclusively prioritize their forces into toppling the WG, they may have a chance of winning, not without heavy casualties of course.

I think rocks was the last person to get the gum gum fruit but he turned to the dark side of what the gum gum fruit could do. And so garp and Roger had to defeat him. After hundreds of years of avoiding the government it finally got found decades after defeating rocks they got their hands on it until shanks stole it back and ultimately luffy consumed it. Seeing the heart that luffy had and the want for freedom shanks decided to use that for his benefit down the line
Given that kaido (a member of rocks crew) commented a lot on luffy's fruit, including being unsure if the classification is correct, and how ridicuolus it is, i think he would have said something if his former captain had the same ability.

well, It's possible that Rocks had the Gum Gum Fruit and its power corrupted him, leading to his defeat by Garp and Roger. Shanks stealing it back and giving it to Luffy based on his heart and desire for freedom could have been a strategic move.

I believe Buggy has more "soft" power than Crocodile or Mihawk. When he says he is gonna get the one piece and Cross Guild members rejoice, there is not much Crocodile or Mihawk can do to prevent that. They on the other hand, are the heavy hitters of Cross Guild.
