It is always a bit depressing when the video gets to levels you aren't sure you recognize and then ones you clearly don't and realize that is where you peaked as a child.

there is actually a thing in this game that if you are very low on health you do more damage. Like almost one shot everything. Not sure why but i remember that was a thing.
and that weird guy who cant stop ducking like a sissy though i kinda like it i wish the flaws were ripped out though especially the tecnodrome part too..... much.....junk ...... on the screen i dont like raph in this game his weapon is super short
It took me almost 4 years of practice and dedication to finally beat this game and this guy completely destroys it in less than 30 minutes... What am I doing wrong?
strategize i made to to stage 5 out of 6 the bomb stage is the easiest just watch the timer and your life meter and switch turtles when your turtle has 2 squares of life hint use Michaelangelo and Raphael since there your weakest turtles in the game so that Leonardo and donatello can heal your turles in the next stage another good strategy is save your 2 weapons for boss fights like your boomerangs and stuff trust me learn from your mistakes improve your timing and you will be one of the players like me that make it to level 4 or higher oh and if you lose all your turtles you can always use your continues
First of all, that tune which plays when you drive the van is so awesome. I remember playing this when I was 9 or so, the dam level was so dam intense (pun intended). I vividly recall that taking-damage sound when you touch the weeds, I was sweating so bad. Never beat this game though, reached the very last stage but didn't find the boss I believe. Good times.

its a good game dont let the negative reviews from people get you down the bomb stage is piss ass easy i made it to stage 5 its like every game out there its trail and error i bet there is people who hate the super mario bro games just because they cant make it over the first pipe people are going to hate any game regardless if its good or not plus this game was on the nintendo power top 20 for awhile and it even hit first place so i dont know whats with the hate this game had for awhile
This, pac-man, mario, *ick tracy, jurassic park were my first games to play around 3 years old.. Loved this game and once maybe at around age 5 got to some boss after jumping on top of buildings in an outside area and died, but will remember that morning forever.
the only part thats hard is the electric coral if you dont let your energy go under 2 squares and change turtles and stay away from the seaweed that kills your turtle then you should do good trust me its not hard the dam stage i have a 90 plus percent average of beating the stage i even help my friends with that stage
Ah, what good memories of youth with this good old arcade game. Sometimes I still play it from time to time to pass the time thanks to an emulator, and I admit I still love it so much.

Boss at 16:46 when his mouth opens, if you push Start to open the menu screen and close it, his mouth will be closed but you will still see a dim light in his mouth where you can still hit the boss. Figured this out when me and my brothers were playing it as elementary kids.

I was about 6 or 7 when i got to play this game. Judging by comments many people couldnt beat the water level. As a kid I beat that but never advanced much further. I am now 33 and got the rom for this and have been able to play it again. I could still beat the water level (barely) but again cant advance much further. Seriously what were developers thinking back then? If you were born in the 80s we had the hardest video games of all time. Come to think of it, almost all the NES, SNES, Genesis games i got to play i would say most were never beat. Back then, i guess i just felt that was the norm and never truly got that upset. Kids today would be crying to their parents how hard it is. Back then with no internet, we just accepted it.
Most of this game was based on the original comic, that's why there aren't that many (recognizable) enemies lifted straight from the cartoon. It's also why the cover has that weird thing where everyone's color-coded like Raphael, even though that's actually inconsistent with the game itself. Foot Clan soldiers and Mousers. Rocksteady and Beebop for the first bosses. The rest is self created enemies. There's not much material in the original cartoon (which this game is based on). I'm pretty sure this was meant to be a TMNT game but they had to come with a variety of other treats to make it more interesting, most licencied games from that era did that.
TMNT literally killed my friends NES controllers back in the days xD Especially during that part when you have to swim in the lake (sewer system?). I remember something about bombs and seaweed of death? :P
Giant moths, flying leg creatures, mutant frog-men, human torches, robot samurai with flying heads - what kind of heavy drugs did the programmers do before coming up with enemies for this game?
Though probably more of an accidental move rather than planned marketing, the use of Mike Dooney’s art from the TMNT #4 reprint issue from 1987 drew in the comic book fans with a familiar image, though the red bands across the entire cast of turtles led to a common misperception that the cover was subject to a print error. For those who are only familiar with either the cartoon show or the origin, comics might have trouble seeing the true benefit of this game’s content and style. Just saying.
All negativity about "THAT DAM LEVEL!" aside, this game provided a challenge for players back in the 80's. Let's be real, though. If Shredder and Kraang were ever this clever in the 80's cartoon, our heroes in a half shell would've been turtle soup by now.
I dont care what any shitty game reviewer thinks... I love this game! Its great, one of the first NES games I played back in the 80s, I bought it right away and spent the next year beating it, I got hours upon hours of gameplay and finally completing it felt like an amazing accomplishment... games back then didnt care about holding your hamd, you had to learn to get through it will pure skills and memorization.. Wow!!! You actually made the jump at 10:15 with no problems. That jump is SO FUCKING HARD!!!! I'm 14 BTW but I used to play this at my cousins' house. They are 28 and 25 and they used to watch the TMNT in their original days. I used to play this game along with McKids and SMB3 all the time and I always had problems at that GOD DAMN JUMP!
Unfortunately never beat the TechnoDrome boss, but now I know how to. Use Scrolls to take out the front claw and the two sentry guns, then use either Leo's Sword or Donnie's Staff to take out the Foot Soldier deploying hatch. With all of those down, putting that eye out of its misery would be as simple as that!
Let's not forget that by comic book and movie continuity, he was never human in the first place -- he was always a normal rat who turned into an anthropomorphic rat mutant. Also, in the opening cinematic prior to the title screen, Splinter looks like a pink rabbit. That always bothered me ever since I was a kid and first played the game.

the turtle sprites are so green and vibrant! that's one of the reasons i like the ninja turtles games.

Foot Clan soldiers and Mousers. Rocksteady and Beebop for the first bosses. The rest is self created enemies. There's not much material in the original cartoon (which this game is based on). I'm pretty sure this was meant to be a TMNT game but they had to come with a variety of other treats to make it more interesting, most licencied games from that era did that.

All negativity about "THAT DAM LEVEL!" aside, this game provided a challenge for players back in the 80's. Let's be real, though. If Shredder and Kraang were ever this clever in the 80's cartoon, our heroes in a half shell would've been turtle soup by now.
I dont care what any shitty game reviewer thinks... I love this game! Its great, one of the first NES games I played back in the 80s, I bought it right away and spent the next year beating it, I got hours upon hours of gameplay and finally completing it felt like an amazing accomplishment... games back then didnt care about holding your hamd, you had to learn to get through it will pure skills and memorization.. Wow!!! You actually made the jump at 10:15 with no problems. That jump is SO FUCKING HARD!!!! I'm 14 BTW but I used to play this at my cousins' house. They are 28 and 25 and they used to watch the TMNT in their original days. I used to play this game along with McKids and SMB3 all the time and I always had problems at that GOD DAMN JUMP!
Shit I remember when there was too many enemies an whatnot on screen the bottom used to flash and the framerate would drop down haha
Here's a trick: at the title screen press SELECT a desired number of times to skip to a desired stage (for example, press it twice to go to stage 3)

Unfortunately never beat the TechnoDrome boss, but now I know how to. Use Scrolls to take out the front claw and the two sentry guns, then use either Leo's Sword or Donnie's Staff to take out the Foot Soldier deploying hatch. With all of those down, putting that eye out of its misery would be as simple as that!

Also, in the opening cinematic prior to the title screen, Splinter looks like a pink rabbit. That always bothered me ever since I was a kid and first played the game.
Hint: you can destroy the enemy vehicle by available meelee weapon.
The 4th level and the Technodrome were the ones I had the most trouble with as I kept getting lost and those FUCKING rocket pack soldiers.......
