A reliable conversion of MGLT (from X-Wing games) to other speed ratings, and G ratings, does not yet fully exist. But the new Haynes guide to TIE Fighters does offer rough matches.
I'd say that it's more the Star Wars equivalent of the old F-104, or most of the other Century Series fighters, with the notable exception of the F-105, in that it was designed as an interceptor. Something meant to go very fast, but not necessarily be able to maneuver that well, and intercept enemy bombers as soon as possible and as far away from their intended target as possible.
@@theangryMD its in no way a interceptor... its a heavy fighter like the arc-170. Interceptors need to be as agile as possible. IE the tie intercepter.

@@khadenallast4495 The guns swiveling would still have the advantage that when you have a fighter on your six, you can give yourself covering fire as you try to evade. It would be a pain lining up for a shot on one as it's spraying fire behind it (wild maneuvering on the A-Wings part would make the shots go everywhere). As for the supplies, maybe it's a _nice soft crash landing??_ Like say into a swamp. Although I would redesign it so the consumables could be accessed by the pilot while in the cockpit, for mid flight snacks on long recon missions. Nothing worse than going into a space battle with low blood sugar.… …
It's hardly a flaw in space fighters that the guns aren't turreted. Rather it's a flaw in science fiction to think that a space fighter has to fly the direction it's nose is pointed. Which is in no way true in space. Though, once you invoke realism the entire concept of a starfighter becomes truly ludicrous. Hell, space battles in general are an absurdity given real physics. But starfighters in particular make no sense. Not even slightly. So merely HAVING starfighters in your setting is a massive contrivance. Why sweat the details when the basic premise is already so ridiculous?
I’m starting to like the RZ-2 over the RZ-1 due to the advancements of technology the RZ- had over its predecessor. I think the remnants of the NR Fleet have the RZ-2 Awings but idk if they’ll help out the Resistance, they might but who knows. I think Leila’s allies probably has some warships with starfighters like the RZ-2 Awing with them.
The RZ-2 may be an upgrade over the RZ-1 but both ships have a hyperdrive, but imagine a V-wing and a Tri-fighter with a hyperdrive. Either way the interceptors of the light side always think of multitasking.
why give a defensive ship hyperdrive? it increases costs and takes up internal space. only factions that lack resources (for mobel hangers) would want to give interceptors hyperdrives.
What matters, when we're talking about an interceptor, is the speed, range and weaponry. A-Wing of the Reb' era is fast and does have missiles : a perfect interceptor to wipe some enemy squadrons far away from the mother ship. It's the kind of starfighter that you'll keep in reserve and use to quickly intervene where it is the most needed. Maneuverability doesn't even matter much.
Wanna know what gets me thinking when they miss their shots in space wouldn't that bolt go on forever? So you would be flying around and get hit by a bolt shot from the clone wars
According to Rian Johnson they’re no better than a paper airplane, much like the “bombers”. They all get shredded in TLJ, the only movie they really appear in.
years ago while playing in a SW RPG game, I played a doros outlaw tech. lmao, he was a bit of a "Red Neck" (Tim "the Tool Man" Taylor attitude, but spoke like Larry the Cable Guy) and boosted the shields, engines moved a few things around, and managed to install a droid socket..... but the crowning achivment was moving the ball turrets on the sides of the ship, getting them to work together for left right up down, and installed a quad cannon, with a 360 degree arc. lol, and the droid was programed to be a gunner. lol, my GM hated me. outrunning the tie fighters and able to shoot them on the run. lol, I really miss that RZ-2
If you were to bring back the Extended Universe what would be one thing you would change to make it better? It was me I would decanonize Swtor and instead have Kotor 3 happen and be about 5-10 years after Kotor 2 and have the old Sith Empire invade the Old Republic at that time. Then I would add more content between 3900BBY-1000BBY where there's more wars, society breakdowns, plagues, and dark ages to help explain why technology doesn't really progress much in the Extended Universe period of the Old Republic to Clone Wars.
There are some parts of SWTOR I would love to see broken out, particularly the Sith Warrior and Imperial Agent stories, and then they could be greatly expanded.
If the Old Republic era were to be brought back into canon, I’d personally do a time crunch from 3000 BBY to 1000 BBY to bring Tales of the Jedi, KOTOR 1&2, and SWTOR 2000 years closer to the events of the Original Trilogy. Maybe also establish an official in-universe calendar for the sake of both the writers and fans.
Seen from the original series, it's successors within it's faction, this is by far, my personal favorite fighter. I'd pick her (gen-1) over an X-wing without looking back. That being said, she ain't perfect. And since every A-wing is a highly personalized fighter I'd make some alterations: 1. I'd swap the concusion missile launchers and lasers of place. Mounting both lasers in a semi-fixed forward firing position, on top of each other. (like Russian twin 23mm cannons) - disadvantage: No more firing backward. (in a craft this nimble/speedy it is not needed, also it takes time to move the barrel 180° twice and then aim the entire ship facing the wrong way, meaning you needed a second crew member for this to be reliable anyway.) + advantage: where 1 laser hits, so does the second. In single fire mode, you get real rapid fire forward and from the pilots view, they fire almost from the same point to the same point. + advantage: You increase your load of missiles from 6 to ten, for you are still connected to the old magazine AND you replace the old 'turn and shoot' mechanics with a wider magazine. + advantage: For a fighter on your tale, drop the missile like a bomb or drop it and guide it after the enemy fighter passes over. + advantage: Easier maintenance. Extra note: Replace the twin cannons with a rotary (small), five barreled rapid fire, high precision laser. Heats up slower, rate of fire up with alas more complex maintenance and higher price tag. 2. build in the components of an astromechdroid for faster FTL jumps. Not the entire droid. - disadvantage: Cost goes up! + advantage: more precise & faster FTL jumps. + advantage: The maintenance crew gets onboard help. + advantage: If the pilot is unconscious, disabled, the droid can bring them home on not just preset coordinates, but make up its own mind. 3. Vectored thrusters. - disadvantage: Cost! + advantage: This is a highly elite fighter, with only 2 roles in mind that overlap well. 1. space superiority fighter. 2. ultra-high speed interceptor. Giving it vectored thrusters makes it maneuver even better. + advantage: Flying with 1 engine taken out becomes less of a burden and does not take this one out of the fight. There, my humble insight on this most beautiful and s3xy fighter of its era in the Star Wars saga. Note: Sorry for the length of the post, it bears some clarification for why I'd do the changes)
Ahem. I kinda think if I were in the new republic navy/the resistance, I'd prefer to not pilot the RZ-2, because whilste it is smaller and technically superior, it's missing some pretty important things, due to it being smaller. For example, if these tech advances had been used in a ship the same size as the RZ-1, I'm relatively sure it would have gotten better shields, engines, weapons, and a BB-series Astromech slot. Of course, it's still better than a TIE, but then again the missing astromech is what made the RZ-1 so difficult to fly compared to the T65b X-Wing. I also think that the trainer version of the RZ-1 could have been refitted with an astromech slot in place of the seat, but I digress.
The size of the A-Wing is messy. 60 cm model scale suggests 9.6 metres long, but the cockpit size and the man in it suggest much smaller. This version is sort of midway looking.
chris sonofpear1 the r-22 already had shields and armor. Disney is pretty much saying the RA was acting like the Empire which had unlimited resources and pilots. The fighters and pilots were to valuable to be treated as if they were disposable.
Depend's who's saying what. We have Pablo Hidalgo and Dan Wallace working on reference books, several other reference books, novels, behind the scenes, the Story Group... One hand may not always spot the action of another, or intend a consistent agenda over tech.
+1, but we know very little about T-85. Crew still has not decided what the panels before wings do :P In Z-95 they were for air intake, but it's closed in T-85. Torpedoe launcher? I suppose, but we still are not sure
Thought's on the A-Wing's intended size? Mistakes in model scaling have been made before, in converting to metres. And with the Executor, most famously. If it was not in 1/16 scale (60 cm model) then the A-Wing is NOT 9.6 metres long, and the pilot fits more snugly as seen...
I just notice that the blue version of the rz-2 a-wing has two red stripe on the right of the ship (pilot's view), does that indicate number of kills (because it does not appear in other rz-2 a-wing paint scheme) or is it just for decorative purpose.
@MetaNerdzLore there is a Blue RZ-2 A-wing that lands in The Rise of Skywalker, not just in the trailer. It is near the very end after the StarDestroyer is seen plunging into the planet. RE: 2:06.36 (as watched on Disney+ streaming) I couldn't find any reference to this on any wiki sites or other fan sites. Correct me if I'm wrong 🙃 MTFBWY.
When this chick I knew told me her top Rebel character used an A-Wing I used to laugh a bit. Honestly never given them much credit. But it does seem, with some modification and greart pilot, you can make a pretty descent war machine out of it! I particularly have to give it that it's insanely smart to protect the engine and pilot as without either most fighters are literally dead or dead in the water. It also makes a bit of sense. Seriously why is this the only example in any Starfighter based series I've ever seen somebody state you needed a triforce over your VIP parts of the Starfighter?! TuT I'll have to apologize that that crazy green skinned girl when I'm not playing on the side of the Empire. Excellent video!
Did someone else noticed that there are b wings in the the picture that shows a squadron of resistance fighters from the rise of Skywalker in the d23 trailer?
My favourite is still the eta2. Like it’s just amazing. But I love the a wing so much too. Both are the best star fighters or their respective eras. And v wings are great too.
glad someone noticed the weapon's everyone was using were operating like plasma weapons and not lasers. lasers don't make noise when shot and use a beam of of light that is rarely visible. plasma weapons for a plasma bullet that is visible and make noise.
Not sure about that pound-for-pound takedown champion comment. Pretty sure there is a farm boy with an X-wing that might have something to say about that. For that matter, there is a modified YT-1300 and it's wingman that might be in the running as well, as they managed to blow up the thing that SSD crashed into!
Interesting point, but it raises the question: do we count the entire planet as part of the takedown? I kinda feel like most of the planet was just along for the ride, so Poe shouldn't get to count the mass of the whole thing!
Same could be said of any of them though, the a-wing really only took out the bridge, Luke and Lando only really took out the reactor, the rest of the mass was just along for the ride.
I just want to say the Legends A-Wings are far superior to the Disney version as they had all the speed in the galaxy and while didn't have a thick of armor as the X or Y-Wings they did have decent shields and armaments that made them better than what Disney has given us. Also, the swivel joint thing for the A-Wing is not new that was Legends as well, while not able to go full 180 or 360 it still had a decent range of adjustable fire that allows the fighter to shoot at ships just above its stationary gun position.
If youre trying to be as agile as possible to the point your flying paper armor that just means the shield would be exponentially more useful. Since youll have more time between getting shot ideally.
Many RZ-1As could fire in 360 degrees. They were modified to do so, including rear fire but were prone to jamming. It’s not that they didn’t have the ability on many, just not as well implemented as the rz-2a.
Man I hate how insanely uncreative the new star wars are!! The retard fortress and Ren's tie Silencer are the only new ships introduced, and the Silencer is basically the Tie Advanced with Interceptor wings (I actually love it, but still...) Literally every other vehicle is just a slightly newer version of OT ships, I didn't even realize the A wing was new till I saw it on battlefront 2....
I think their is some sort of force that has an effect on the pilot. In a lot of sources it's said that the Droid star fighters have a advantage because they can do manovers that would kill a humanoid pilot.
If I lived in the Starwars universe I'd like to build my own version with a more powerful engine and fusion reactor, but remove the concussion missile launchers to create space for an astromech and hopefully a deflector sheild, while replacing the swivel mounted laser cannons for Gimbal mounted Ion cannons. 💗
you don't tell me that rz-2 is smaller than rz-1 Just look at cockpit compared to 2 and compared to 1. rz-2 must be longer, this just dosen't make sense to me. If you can, can you please explain it to me?

I'm surprised that this A-Wing is smaller than the older model.
Hope to see whichever A-Wing model is in the movie.

Yep. The character Tallie Lintra, and the actress Hermione Corfield, got cheated by Rian Johnson's failure.
I do love the A-wing. Glad Lord Mouse got smart enough to put shields on them again.
Huh, I never realized Kuat was still in business after the empire.
It is. It still an essential & important Galactic ship industry to all planetary nations especially to both sides.
now we're talking, I see almost nothing wrong with this ship, but where's the Astromech, that's my only complaint
Yeah, that's more or less the only con I can see, since an astromech would help very much.
As for the supplies, maybe it's a _nice soft crash landing??_
Like say into a swamp.
I've missed your ship breakdowns and their size comparisons. Here, here.

I only hope they would show Starhawks in action and cinema version of T-85 X-wings
8:06 Me and the bois leaving Area 51 with our new toys!
Hmm. Shrunk a Wookiee squared.
Chewbacca: * laughing in Wookiee *
I always liked the B-wing of all of them
The RZ-2 may be an upgrade over the RZ-1 but both ships have a hyperdrive, but imagine a V-wing and a Tri-fighter with a hyperdrive. Either way the interceptors of the light side always think of multitasking.
the V-Wings did have hyperdrives, …. well the ones that were the personal escort to the Palpatine. But the V-Wings were little beasts of a ship.
why give a defensive ship hyperdrive? it increases costs and takes up internal space. only factions that lack resources (for mobel hangers) would want to give interceptors hyperdrives.
This ship Looks beyond awsome
I love this videos💚🖤
Resitance : the first order doesn't have tie interceptor we have an advantage

Great video and I hope that the y wing and b wing have differences.
Yeah I have to do updated vids on those soon
years ago while playing in a SW RPG game, I played a doros outlaw tech. lmao, he was a bit of a "Red Neck" (Tim "the Tool Man" Taylor attitude, but spoke like Larry the Cable Guy) and boosted the shields, engines moved a few things around, and managed to install a droid socket..... but the crowning achivment was moving the ball turrets on the sides of the ship, getting them to work together for left right up down, and installed a quad cannon, with a 360 degree arc. lol, and the droid was programed to be a gunner. lol, my GM hated me. outrunning the tie fighters and able to shoot them on the run. lol,
I really miss that RZ-2
And since every A-wing is a highly personalized fighter I'd make some alterations:
1. I'd swap the concusion missile launchers and lasers of place. Mounting both lasers in a semi-fixed forward firing position, on top of each other. (like Russian twin 23mm cannons)
- disadvantage: No more firing backward. (in a craft this nimble/speedy it is not needed, also it takes time to move the barrel 180° twice and then aim the entire ship facing the wrong way, meaning you needed a second crew member for this to be reliable anyway.)
+ advantage: where 1 laser hits, so does the second.
The A Wing is one of my favorite designs. It's a knife. You have to keep it sharp to cut.
I thought for sure they were bigger than the original A-Wing
The size of the A-Wing is messy. 60 cm model scale suggests 9.6 metres long, but the cockpit size and the man in it suggest much smaller. This version is sort of midway looking.
Was always my favorite from the get go!
Were almost there to 1mil.
Love the video.
In Legends one of the main reasons the RA won so many dogfights was because of their shields. Their was no purpose for Disney to change that in canon.
I assume some got them added later.
chris sonofpear1 the r-22 already had shields and armor.
One hand may not always spot the action of another, or intend a consistent agenda over tech.
chris sonofpear1 the origin and capabilities of the a-wings were well established any alterations would be pointless.
Please do the T-70 and T-85 X-Wings please, love your videos

I really like the design

These videos are great don't get me wrong it's really informative, but wookie is a type of measurement. And I want that to be in Rise of Skywalker
I love the Return of the Jedi / Droids A-Wing, it was in no way standardized though, to the point of even at least one having wood panels.

Wouldn't the record go to Poe, he technically took out a planet.
In SW game, love playing as the hero a-wing cause it's difficult to tell if it's a normal one or hero.
Valrock Mograth Exactly. Disney suck for changing the RZ-1’s specs and back story.
@@dat581 should've simply left the stats alone.
