My legit favorite song of 2023 hands down. I think more novels got listed off than most people ever read. Most of all thank you for showing my niece you can be "nerdy" and rock at the same time, this is a love ballad to literacy.
God this is relatable, after listening listening to a couple of songs (started with the idiot, gotta love ol’Stan) “I think you got what it takes kid” so keep up the great work you’ve certainly earned a subscriber here and look forward to seeing you grow in popularity, which I’m certain you will
Thanks man! I'm always happy to hear that people are able to connect with my music. I appreciate the subscription and hope to hear more from you in the comments in the future!
@@liahavlena for me it was old music rather than books I’ve been listening to “deed musicians” since I was 13 (im 20 now) and have kinda made it my hole personality since then, nothing makes a 15 year old feel depressed like Hank Williams, it does wonders for the social life to
@thebullfrog9416 oh I hear you man. I got really into Bob Dylan when I was 14 and never looked back. Definitely can make things harder in high school lol
Just found your channel AND love your music! Vonnegut is a bit of a hero in our home - has a full shelf in the library all to himself. I can't tell you how many of his books we've gifted over the years :) And if you don't mind - I'm going to perform your song at our next folk circle - absolutely wonderful! Thank you for sharing with us
It was because of your awesome Springsteen tune "Youngstown", that I discovered this Vonnegut piece. 1st class writing it is. I too was deeply influenced by some of Vonnegut's work when I was young. Congratulations on the very successful creative path you are on.
The thumb nail of holding up the vonnget books in a moutain goats T I would straight up buy as a poster. F-cking epic, just epic. Idk how you find the time to self educate on that level but respect. I love russian lit though "Every happy family is happy in the same way. Every unhappy family is uniquely unhappy". Anna would be a good protagonist in your music actually...
I've been on an eastern philosophy and psychedelic binge with my close friends lately f***ing maya is a head f**k like a loop I can't choose one book about it that works but episode 5 of "midnight gospel" is an intense dive. My non fiction section is full of my moms (classified ,God josie..) 1985 air force academy books and all i think is "99 red ballons". And obviously Boston sports books: American male over 30 boring sports stats required.
1984 scared me to 451° Fahrenheit, an old man in the sea had to sail me past the tropic of cancer, east of eden, to where the wild things are... if your not laughing oeople youre dead inside
"If you home with someone and they dont own a book dont f**k them"- John Waters. Fr Lia you nailed this one its harder to find intellectually mutually stimulating conversation when youve out read your piers
I really can't wait to hear that one. I'm turning 30 in a few days and "Things don't lose interest your priorities change". Most people don't quite get it. Hey how's the weather out there? (Dispera me)
How in the fuck did you know that quote? I don't think there's a reference I've made yet you haven't picked up on and I pride myself on profound obscurity
OMGF SLAUGHTER HOUSE 5! FUCKING EPIC LIA JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I HAD A BOOKSHELF JOKE COMING HONESTLY YOU KEEP BEING AWSOME! (WASTED 13-21 ON ORWELL AND HEMMINGWAY YOU NAILED EVERYTHING 100%!) Idk how the fuck the world hadnt seen what an incredible multifaced individual you are and never be afraid to show any part of your EPIC personality.
Oh yeah I was into Orwell and Hemingway too. I read a lot of Ray Bradbury, John Steinbeck, and Cormac Mccarthy in my teens as well. I still love all of those authors. Thanks for the kind words!
Jack London and Sinclair lol arnt all over educated teenagers socialist adventurers for 2-3 years. I never did forget Tolstoy though: "Every happy family is happy in the same way every unhappy family is uniquely unhappy." Opening line of Anna Karina.
"For whom the bell tolls" is 20 km from the TINY village in Spain my mom's family is from, he got the scenery right but we don't fight bulls or chest puff half as much as Hemmingway makes it out in his books orwell though oh he got into the fight.
Thanks for the compliment on my hair! I can never get it to look the same two days in a row lol. And I still do plenty of doom reading, I'm on a nonfiction kick right now. My favorite book I've read in the last few years is about the Donner Party and it's called The Indifferent Stars Above. I highly recommend it.
Gun to the head: grapes of wrath or on the run? I will admit most of the lit I got into was foreign but im assuming there's some jack London back there on the shelf too? Minium Hemingway but at least one book? You write a song about books you're gonna get some questions, no judgment no wrong answers in lit, ok Ayn Rian lol. Although Anna Karina probably tied w tale of two cities for best book of all time in my opinion name the novel you'd get stuck on an island with.

The song flows nicely, both the lyrics and and the music. Stunning what people can do.
Thank you! This is one of my favorites to play live
This is quality songwriting. Impressive and personal. Really excellent.
@@JonathanLancaster1 thanks man!
Just lovely. I love Kurt too.

Thanks for listening! He's a hero of mine as well. Go right ahead and play it, I'd be honored!

Thank you for the kind words! I think Vonnegut is an author that a lot of people have a very personal connection with.
Jonathan Richman vibes! Great song and voice.
That's a huge compliment! Thank you!

I've tried my hand at Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. Maybe it's time I give it a shot again. But I'm on a non fiction kick right now.

Lia I love the honesty in your writing and the beautiful strong tone you have ❤
It's always something I aim for in my lyrics. Thanks for listening!

Mark Twain & Kurt Vonnegut...the absolute best there ever was. 😎 Abide
I love Mark Twain too! Such a great wit. I've been to his hometown like 15 times lol
@liahavlena In my humble opinion, they are my two favorite writers ever. Whit, insight, & bravery. And, by-the-way, very cool song. Thanks. 😎
Absolutely agree. And thanks for listening!@@johnweyers2685
You know the rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated. (Samuel Clemens)
"If you home with someone and they dont own a book dont f**k them"- John Waters. Fr Lia you nailed this one its harder to find intellectually mutually stimulating conversation when youve out read your piers
I love John Waters and that's one of my favorite quotes lol. I'm working on another song right now actually about how boring most small talk can be.

I think he said it in some interview that I watched, but he also mentioned that quote when I saw his stand up like 8 years ago. @@jameshuman1753
I hear ya man@@jameshuman1753
Presumably dead arm, great song to cover. Also a mass local wrote it.
I'll check it out!

I'm secretly a 65 year old man lol
Ouch!!! We are what we pretend to be...
@@petef86a ha!
This is a fucking great song if you grew up a ‘gifted’ kid.
You feel the struggle lol
Alright, so we put this on the shelf next to "Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury!" and we're building a terrific EP about the scifi greats!
Omg I forgot about that song lol. Quick, give me something that rhymes with Asimov
So edgy😂
Don't I know it lol
