Here's a song I wrote a while back about jealousy, insecurity, and setting high standards for myself. It's about coming to terms with all those emotions involved with not living up to your own expectations. I hope you enjoy it! Also check out the new oddities shelf in the background!
Lyrics:
All my friends from high school are living ordinary lives
These mythic figures from my past
There was so much competition just to learn how to survive
We had to learn that nothing lasts
All our dreams used to be endless
like our energy and our time
Powered by stupidity and feeling reckless
Second guessing wasn't worth a dime
Maybe I'm not meant for something big and that's fine
And life isn't quite at all what I expected
And it isn't all if they get theirs well then I can't get mine
Their acceptance doesn't mean that I'm rejected
Most people never have a calling
They'll do whatever it is they fall into
Or work with friends or family
They’ll do whatever they're supposed to
Do dreams die or change and become realistic
we get happy with the little things we've got
Each time we leave we get a little bit more homesick
Because the little things start to mean a lot
All the people that I love are living ordinary lives
And why would I ever look down on that
I'm Getting comfortable with just getting by
finding my own happiness in that fact
This deserves more views. Your lyrics are too beautifully melancholy to be buried. In particular, the lines, “Maybe I’m not meant for something big, and that’s fine, and life isn’t quite what I expected. It isn’t all ‘if they get theirs, well, then I can’t get mine’; their acceptance doesn’t mean that I’m rejected,” really spoke to me (and I’m sure to anyone who’s ever caught themselves rating their own success against others’).
@@thanetothefalseking332 thank you! I'm always happy to hear when my lyrics resonate with others. That phrase you quoted in particular is very important to me as well, and it's really the crux of the song.
I was browsing aimlessly through UA-cam, and this song suddenly made me sit up. How it reflects my thoughts and feelings!
@coyets I'm glad you could connect with it!
these mythic figures from my past
I can definitely relate to a lot of these lyrics, especially about people in your past being like spectres, but expectations can be like that as well. Like broken promises, they can cling to our souls like rusty chains that we carry with us. Sometimes, we need to let go of _what might have been_ or _what was_, and instead, embrace and reflect on _what is_.
This is really well put. I feel like I get caught up a lot in either dwelling on what might have been or projecting into the future. Trying to live in the present is a process for me.
@@liahavlena Me too. A good song about this is Smell The Flowers by Jerry Reed. I'd recommend it for just this purpose. Hey, btw, keep up the good work. You kinda inspire me to start playing guitar again.
Love how relatable this is Lia, your voice is amazing by the way❤
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words!

That's a good motto to have!
Lyrics really ring true with time. Great piece.
Also -- seems that guitar is a bit buzzy on 5th string 3rd fret. High humidity area?
You know it! It's been nothing but humid here for like a week.
Keep rocking girl! Request, whistle stop Roger Miller? You perfect for old school folk/outlaw
I'll check it out!
