The Times They are A-Changin' - Bob Dylan Cover
A song that stays relevant no matter how many decades pass since it was written. I think it's easy to get overwhelmed in our day-to-day lives, but this song serves as a reminder that there always has been, and always will be, change. For better or for worse, to be a alive is to experience change. The best thing we can do, is support one another through those changes.
Also I used to perform this song in high school with one of those harmonica headsets but I have left it out here since there's no way to play it quietly and not have it overload my microphone.
Thanks for listening!

Coventry Carol
Переглядів 230Місяць тому
Merry Christmas! I'm a fan of traditional hymns and Christmas music. This song, in particular, has an interesting history. Coventry Carol can be traced back as far as the 16th century. It's a song about the massacre of children in Bethlehem ordered by King Herod and is from the perspective of the grieving mothers. This makes it rather unique for a Christmas hymn. Still, when covering a song thi...

Famous Blue Raincoat - Leonard Cohen Cover

Leonard Cohen is one of my favorite lyricists but he and I have very different voices so he can be tricky to cover. I've been working on this song for a while, gaining my confidence in my ability to keep the finger picking pattern consistent, and I'm happy with how it turned out. Leonard Cohen is, for me, the sound of winter and rainy days. I think this song captures the mood perfectly as we ap...

Blowin in the Wind - Bob Dylan Cover

Will there ever be a time when this song doesn't feel relevant? Like all great songs of the people, Blowin in the Wind still feels as fresh now as it did sixty years ago. Here's my take on a classic. This is one of those songs that, like This Land is Your Land, I always end up playing and people always love to hear.

This is a song that's been on repeat for me this year. I was fortunate to have a friend offer to hook me up with a mandolin back at the end of August, so I've been working on some tunes with it! There will definitely be more mandolin- specific covers to come!

Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. This song gives me chills every time I hear it. I believe that Gordon Lightfoot created something perfect here. Thanks for listening. Also excuse me having to look at the lyrics, there are simply too many to remember for this one.

I don’t usually leave comments on videos, but seeing how there’s only 191 views and 9 comments as of me writing this, I feel like my support matters. As a teenager looking ahead towards my college years, I see a lot of uncertainty in the future of America and the world. I find it comforting to listen to folk music and music from the 60’s- a time which also had a lot of political uncertainty- and it helps me to feel connected to what regular, average people in the past have lived through. As a fan of musicians like Stan Rogers, Bob Dylan, and Gordon Lightfoot, it’s encouraging to see people like you keeping this music alive and current, as folk music should be. Thank you, and keep up the great work.
@nickp_53 Hey! Thanks for leaving the comment. You've got some great music taste. I think songs from the 60s, and even before with artists like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, will continue to be relevant for years to come. Stay vigilant, stay kind, and keep listening to good music man!
Sadly "changin' back" unless we all stand in opposition. Don't let 60 years of progress slip away. Thank you for sharing, Lia.

@@jeffbrown4465 it's a great song!
I think that's the best description you've ever written. I remember when this song first appeared, it scared many people -- and they needed scaring. As new grotesqueries emerge each day in our overly tracked society, this song is one thing that can bestow some hope that maybe someday things will turn around again. I'm sad not so much for myself and my generation mates - we've had a good run. I'm mainly gloomy for my daughter, my nieces, for you and millions of young people who have to live with the new totalitarianism that American have chosen. I agree with "support one another." In all of our disappointment, my daughter and I fell that the best we can do is try to find some good fortune in our personal lives.
@michaelyoung7974 This is well said. You're echoing many of my feelings as well. My general rule, when life feels like too much, is to love the people close to you and try to push forward change in whatever small ways you can. Thanks for the comment!
Hi, I loved hearing this song. Your rendition was great. I always forget about the profoundness of the lyrics. Thx for reminding me, I will get out my guitar tomorrow and play that one.

Hi Lia, just wanted to say hi and thanks for this song. This is one of the first songs I found on your channel (third, I think), and I came across it at the beginning of my first serious relationship. I thought it was an exceptional song back then, but a rough breakup later, and it now feels rather painful and specific, but still comforting in a way? It's nice to know that these feelings of longing are natural. Also doesn't take away from this being one of your most beautiful originals, next to take on desire or always the bridesmaid or so many others. You're a fantastic contemporary artist :)
I'm sorry to hear about your breakup. The feeling you describe is what I was aiming for. Thank you so much for the kind words and for listening, I'm glad to hear that you connect with the little songs I've written.
I'm really late to appreciating this one, but I've had it on loop the last couple of days. It's beautiful. Do you still have the chords for this? It sounds like it'd be fun to play on bass
I'm glad you dig it! Here's what I play, I do use a capo on the 1st fret so everything will need to be moved up a half step. Thanks for listening! Verse A I keep failing therapists F#m Every other month now D There's nothing like the ground to really E Show you what you're worth A Shove my nose to the grindstone F#m Just to taste my own spit D E A I will work every day of my life Chorus D E A I will work every day of my life I will swallow every bad intention A E A D I will sit on my couch until the universe explodes A E A What a joy to feel alive
Epic as always

I came here from the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I'm glad I did. If you want to keep working on this song (not that I don't think it's already great) You may want to try to do something with the lyric "Everything is fine, Everything is finite" When I first listened I thought you were going to sing "everything is fine" but then extended it to finite. And it occurred to me that the song is saying , it's fine to finite, so maybe. Just the thoughts of an old poet. It's already beautiful
