Coventry Carol
Merry Christmas! I'm a fan of traditional hymns and Christmas music. This song, in particular, has an interesting history. Coventry Carol can be traced back as far as the 16th century. It's a song about the massacre of children in Bethlehem ordered by King Herod and is from the perspective of the grieving mothers. This makes it rather unique for a Christmas hymn.
Still, when covering a song this old I love thinking about the thousands of people throughout history that have sung these same words and all the emotion they put into it.

On Going Out - Original Song

Here's a song I've been working on for around two years. It's existential, but I think of it as more life-affirming than nihilistic. Thank you for listening! Famous Blue Raincoat - Leonard Cohen Cover
Переглядів 38521 день тому
Leonard Cohen is one of my favorite lyricists but he and I have very different voices so he can be tricky to cover. I've been working on this song for a while, gaining my confidence in my ability to keep the finger picking pattern consistent, and I'm happy with how it turned out. Leonard Cohen is, for me, the sound of winter and rainy days. I think this song captures the mood perfectly as we ap...

If you haven't checked out the whole 69 Love Songs album by The Magnetic Fields, you really should. I learned this one on a whim but loved how it turned out! Towards the end of November I always get a little moody, so I think this is perfect late fall music. Thanks for listening! Blowin in the Wind - Bob Dylan Cover

Will there ever be a time when this song doesn't feel relevant? Like all great songs of the people, Blowin in the Wind still feels as fresh now as it did sixty years ago. Here's my take on a classic. This is one of those songs that, like This Land is Your Land, I always end up playing and people always love to hear.
Harlem River Blues - Justin Townes Earle Cover

This is a song that's been on repeat for me this year. I was fortunate to have a friend offer to hook me up with a mandolin back at the end of August, so I've been working on some tunes with it! There will definitely be more mandolin- specific covers to come!
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot Cover

Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. This song gives me chills every time I hear it. I believe that Gordon Lightfoot created something perfect here. Thanks for listening. Also excuse me having to look at the lyrics, there are simply too many to remember for this one.

I think this is my 100th song I've posted on my channel! I thought I'd share an original I wrote earlier this year for my husband, Patrick. He's my rock and has never hesitated in supporting any/all of my musical ventures. He's also listened to me sing more than anyone else but still comes to my gigs. Love you Pat! Patreon: www.patreon.com/user/membership?u=42016183 Here's a song I wrote a while back about jealousy, insecurity, and setting high standards for myself. I've been meaning to post this one for a while now! I've had it worked up but just haven't recorded it. I'm on a banjo kick so there will be a few more banjo covers in the near future as well. Also, new background! I moved this last weekend so excuse some of the mess.

Thanks for this and keeping Stan Roger’s name alive.
A very hard song to maintain interest, it can be boring if done weak. This is great, the voice is a phenom
So good!
Good cover of a song from an absolutely legendary artist. I got really into Stans music in 2020 while I was in the Army. It makes me happy to see people close to my age appreciate his music.
Love it!!! Great cover!!
Heck your voice is pretty miss

Do more sea shanties. youre good at it. Do northwest passage by stan rogers. Its just good fun to sing that song. Cover sasketchewan pirate by alestorm. Check out the jolly rogers. Cover their stuff. Itll be brilliant. Ever heard of varend volk? Ye banished privateers? Love to see covers of their stufff. Also, this is brilliant. Cover the dreadnoughts heck. Dear old stan
You ever listen to johnny hobo and the freight trains or similar? I could link songs if youre interested.
Hey. Im new and drunk. You have a nice voice and a pretty face. i like this original song. Youre a vibe
Goddamn. A pretty lady singing old stan rogers? A hearty canadian hale and well met to thee, pretty lady. Have you done northwest passage? My drunken self likes to sing along to both. Im saving you to my drinking music playlist. Cheers, pretty lady!
Nice
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones. Never heard it before. Thank you. There is a beautiful accord at the very end. I come from Poland and we have hundreds of Christmas hymns and carols including the the very old ones dating back to 13th or 14th Century, which I sang with my grandma and like most.
Absolute great cover! Michigander here from the North. My Grandpa told me this story as a kid and introduced me to this song. He said it was the most haunting song he’d ever heard. For me it was “The Legend” 😂😂😂
Lia always posting something I’ve never heard of and it’s always my next fav song lol. Thank you for this one!! :D

Is there any difference between playing guitar and banjo, meaning is one of them harder to play than the other?
Two thumbs up, such a beautiful rendition, I believe Mr. Lightfoot would approve!
Lia, I enjoy your talent. I would love hearing some original songs. You have a talent for story telling, or at least I can envision you story telling. Do you have any story telling songs of your own? Those are something I would enjoy hearing. If you have a mailing list of gigs or songs you want people to hear, I would enjoy being on that list. You have talent, please put it out there for the world to see.
Joan biaz to a tee 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Beautiful
Am I hearing a subtle Bruce Springsteen influence? 😊🇺🇸
it's really good! I might only recommend altering the mix to make the banjo a little quieter, your voice is so lively and free it should be easier to hear
@averagejoey2000 I do not have a mix lol. I just try to sit as far back from my computer as I can and elevate the microphone away from the banjo. Banjo is, unfortunately at times, a powerful instrument
Is Lia single ?😊
👍love this song and everything about fitz+ very beautiful lady strumming it

Are you related to the Havlena guy from Michigan that makes all the homemade/interesting/weird instruments?
@BrutishYetDelightful I think we are distantly related yes! I'm friends with a couple of the Michigan Havlenas on Facebook
@@liahavlena Cool! If you haven't seen it, this guy Dennis Havlena has some really neat instrument plans online. Beware, you might well end up in the hardware store buying PVC pipe and brass fittings and Teflon tape and whatnot. This guy will show you how to make lots of instruments out of next to nothing. A smart fellow, to say the least.
This is just great
