  • Lint building up inside your dryer's blower wheel and causing all sorts of noises and problems? Once you've cleaned it out and your dryer is operating normally, follow these instructions for a permanent solution. You'll need a new filter, new filter housing, 2 screws and a screwdriver!

Screws needed are 2 stainless pan head #10 size 2” long to secure the filter housing. Also, Electrolux has redesigned the blower fan for these dryers with wider fin spacing that prevents lint from being stuck in it! When you tear the unit open to clean it replace the blower fan. It’s only about $20 and that should clear up this problem for ever!

Thank you DM NYC! Every two months, I have to contort my arm and use a crazy huge tweezer to pluck out the lint stuck between the fan blades because my dryer is wedged behind a lipped ledge and I can't take off the whole front of the machine. Then I go online and look up whether or not someone has initiated a class action suit for these stupid dryers which clearly have a design flaw. Today I did not find a lawsuit, but did find your post, ordered the parts, and hope it will solve the problem!! They cost $112.68 with tax (NY), free shipping. Worth every penny if it works, although they should be recalling these machines and replacing them...I will never buy another Electrolux!

Thank you much for this video - managed to replace it on my 617 in about 15 mins.
It is maddening that Electrolux does not acknowledge this as a major problem and pretty much has ignored my multiple requests under my extended Platinum Star warranty. So on top of the $$$ I now feel was wasted on the warranty, the $130 for the lint trap replacement I now guess I am going to pay out of pocket to have the blower wheel and my ductwork cleaned.

If you're going to pay someone to open up your machine to clean it out, you might as well also replace the blower wheel with the newly redesigned one that has wider fins on it that does a better job of allowing stuck lint to pass to the outside. If you're handy and open up the unit yourself, it's about a 1 hour job. Just be carful to disconnect the clip that goes to the dial control by pressing down on the connector to release it. There are videos from similar machines that show you how to disassemble the unit.

So you are very lucky if they give you these parts for free. The 3 year warranty is only valid with their Platinum Star warranty (if you registered after purchase with them). They won't even tell you if this is a known problem without you having a service technician visit and even then they will likely deny it and have you pay for the marked up cost of the parts and labor. After two calls and an escalation to a supervisor I was given a 50% discount on the 3 parts that should have been part of the design in the first place. I think it is going to take a house fire for Electrolux to address this defect with their product. Thank you DM NYC for this video!!

YOU are a genius!!! Thank you for your video. This is exactly what I needed. I thought we were buying the "best" dryer, when actually it is the worst we've ever owned. After 2 years of fighting the battle with the grill being removed and attached again and again to remove the excess lint, the grill was somehow completely ripped off today while drying a regular load of clothes. I will be following your suggestions until we replace the Electrolux washer and dryer pair we bought thinking it would last much longer.

For the full solution, if you're planning on opening up the unit, the blower wheel can be replaced with an updated design that has wider fins and allows any accumulated lint to pass to the outside. The original fan is black and the updated replacement is white. It's the least expensive of all the parts. You probably can't even order the old style fan at this point.

This fix has worked for several years for me. In addition to the Clamshell filter and housing replacement, the ultimate fix includes the updated blower wheel which has wider fins so the lint doesn't get caught in the blower wheel itself. The blower wheel is an inexpensive part, and if you replace that too, you're all set forever.

There another major issue with this new clamshell lint trap. We have 2 of the Electrolux dryers purchased in 2019 that both came with this new clamshell design. The lint trap is very heavy and well fitted, however as the clothes tumble past it, they gat caught on the corners and lift this big heavy lint trap out and you will hear a very loud thumping as it tumbles inside the dryer. Meanwhile any smaller items fall into the lint trap slot and become wedged into the wheel at the bottom. This had happened numerous times and I have had to call for service to take the machine apart to remove articles of clothing or wash cloths. If you call electrolux they will will tell you they have never heard of this and have no solution. If you google it, you will find other people online who have had this same issue so I know this isn’t true. There needs to be some kind of lock on the lint trap to secure it in place. I would never buy this electrolux dryer again.

    • @dmnyc8357

Hi Lynn - I haven't experienced this problem myself and only know of it being an issue related to the older moisture sensors snagging clothing. Sounds like you might NOT have a good fit between the filter housing and the filter itself. I'd examine the filter housing and filter for warps and if the filter housing is straight, tight and secure to the surrounding metal parts. Electrolux support is useless and basically liars. Sorry, but I don't have a better answer for you.

Repair Clinic has several videos of how to guide you through. It's about a dozen screws and most importantly when you lean the front panel forward, carefully unplug the connector to the dial. You need to press a tab to remove it. Also, remove the interior grill that holds the filter housing in place (2 screws) and detach the moisture sensor internally to avoid the cumbersome disconnect what otherwise is holding the machines's face with the other hand. Start 2 screws back top of machine. Slid top off backwards.
2 screws behind the door opening that hold the filter housing. 2 screws bottom front, near feet, of machine. 2 screws now visible on top front of machine. Carefully lean front forward and disconnect the dial. The remaining screws are all visible to remove the internal metal housing that holds the machine together! Once that's removed you'll have direct access to the entire interior of the machine.

    • @dmnyc8357
      @dmnyc8357  5 років тому +2

@@LLR61 The blower fan is an inexpensive part but you have to take the unit apart. I believe the new blower fan is now listed as a replacement on the 617 diagram, but I'd check the 427 diagram to make sure it's the same. If you're up to the task I'd start there and see how that works without replacing the filter and lint assembly. The lint assembly can be replaced without taking the dryer apart and it's just 4 screws plus connecting the moisture sensor so you can do that any time if you're OK with the price of the parts or if you can just give Electrolux the part numbers and get them for nothing. Just about all of the more recent models of Electrolux dryers use the same blower fan (new version of the fan) and the new clamshell filter and filter housing in the newer Electrolux 427 is a direct fit in to the 617. The average "parts guy or gal" won't know that because the parts diagram doesn't list the 427 parts on the 617 diagram. If they did Electrolux would be exposing their own faulty design. As you can see I installed exactly those parts in my 617, and it's been almost a year. I have not installed the new blower fan and so far so good, but we're only 2 people in this house so the jury is still out! I have the new blower fan in a drawer if I end up needing to replace it. Good luck!

It's confusing because Electrolux doesn't list the parts in that way. I installed the 427 series filter parts on my 617 series dryer. And that's because they changed the moisture sensor in the later models. The bigger issue may actually be in the blower wheel, which now has wider blades so lint passes through instead of getting stuck. I believe that part is now universal, is inexpensive, and is the same part number across different models. I believe it's white instead of black. I believe you can't even get the original that was installed in our original dyers that failed because of the lint issue.

ua-cam.com/video/60-vAQMELLU/v-deo.html This is from repair clinic. It's close but not exact. You have to gently disconnect 3 wires. 1 to the control dial by pushing on the clip a little, a 2nd that goes to the light and a 3rd that goes to the moisture sensor. This is what I recall -
2 in the back to remove the top cover, 2 on the top front, once you remove the top that holds the face of the machine, 2 behind the front door that hold the filter housing (you can leave the filter housing attached), 2 on the bottom front of the face that also hold the face of the machine. THEN BE CAREFUL TO DISCONNECT THE 3 WIRES WHILE YOU'RE HOLDING THE FACE OF THE MACHINE FROM FALLING AWAY. Once you have the face off there should be 4 screw holding on the front frame plus a 1,2 or 3 screws that attach to the blower unit/area. You should see that in the video. Good luck!

I saw a newer design and they did 2 things that I cannot see being able to retrofit on the 627, yet.

All part #s begin with 53045- Grill Assembly add #s 15376. Filter Clam Shell add #s 13574. Also the Blower Wheel has been redesigned which should help this lint issue and for it's part # add 13609. For a detailed listing of parts go to: applianceparts.lowes.com and type in model number EFMG427. These are the filter and blower parts that have been upgraded that will fit the older 617, 517 and 417 models. Since these are new parts not many distributors have the regularly in stock. Unfortunately you may have to call Electrolux Parts directly.

Called them multiple times. They said warranty is only valid for 1 year. I have to pay to buy them.

Geoffrey Blass labor is 1 yr, parts is 3 years. If you call their parts Depatment directly you may have better luck. They are not easy to deal with. Sorry and good luck.

I just ordered the blower wheel, part # 3404513609 and didn't have any problem..and no charge for it. Call: (800) 599-7569 for parts. I have the 617 series dryer which is 2 years old. They will not pay for labor but they are sending out the part.. This is the the blower wheel that's a slightly changed design that should be less prone to having the lint get stuck in it. If you're handy you may be able to replace it yourself. Go to /applianceparts.lowes.com/ and enter your model number. They have great drawings of each part of the dryer. Good luck.

Thanks for posting this - I called them and they pretty much told me no-go on the 'free' parts but were more than happy to sell me the kit so I could modify the dryer due to their piss-poor design. I didn't realize Helen Keller was on engineering staff. Their price (waived shipping) was $8 less than Lowes....

I can't seem to find the filter part 5304513574 anywhere, it has been replaced by part 5304529766, does anyone know if that new part will work with the old grill part 5304515376??

my hunch would be , yes, but you may have to modify the dryer sensor. Don’t know where the sensor is in the new model.

She is talking about the clamshell that has been replaced not the housing. I have the same problem where the updated filter fits in but is not snug. So stupid that after speaking with electrolux they still sell the housing but do not sell the the filter that fits that part.@@dmnyc8357

It says if you have the 317 series you dont need the extra grille/sensor/cowling. But if you have a 417/517/617 then you need the extra part. I just received this updated clam shell today (5304529766). It is smaller than the original but it does slot into the clam shell receptacle. However it fits not as flush so I am not 100% convinced this is how it's meant to be. Cant seem to find any videos or pics online of the updated clam shell in the older grille for 300 series dryers to confirm.

Electrolux no longer makes the lint insert that fits that housing. The new parts are: Grill assembly 5304529759
    Clamshell 5304529766
The issue with the new grill
Assembly is it uses a newer moisture sensor. I make a silicone mold of the new moisture sensor, then poured a new plastic part that has the old school metal sensors inserted. Problem solved! I realize this is an advanced repair, as you have to make the new part, but it works if you do it right!
