Control on Electrolux Dryer Model 617 has mysterious quirk where it blinks every now and then as if it's restarting. No other issue with it but may be a fault that leads to a problem later. No explanation.

    I just replaced the grill/filter according to this video; however, now when I go to start the dryer it beeps three times and does not turn on. Has anyone had this issue? Dryer was working fine before I performed this retrofit, so I'm sure I did something incorrectly.

    the 2 parts listed in this video have now been replaced by a single combined item (and it comes with the correct screws! *but* they've changed the electronics - see below). There's a different part for 300-400 series vs 500-600. for 500-600 it's part number 5304534450. not sure for the lower model numbers. new style blower wheel is part number 5304513609 you need a 1-1/8" socket to remove / replace the blower wheel. removing / replacing the blower wheel also requires removing the drum; if you're just cleaning out the blower wheel you don't need to remove the drum. for the electronics: It's a completely different moisture sensor with different attachment. I'm not sure if you actually need to reattach the old moisture sensor, but I made sure to keep it and reattach it to avoid getting some kind of error message. I pulled the old sensors out of the housing so they could still be "attached" but just left them hanging outside the dryer drum. I don't rely on moisture sensing in my dryer. The new moisture sensor is just not attached to anything. The dryer so far appears to work fine. thank you to OP for this helpful video! a very satisfying repair / upgrade!!

      Be careful with the new part. You may have to retrofit the moisture sensor from your old unit that has the two silver bars. Not sure, I'm not familiar with the most recent kit, but I had to retrofit myself when I did this a several years ago. At that time the newer 400 series filter housing fit the my 617, but they sent me the newer 600 series housing at the time, that I was able to retrofit. I also had to change out the connector because the newer 600 series was different. The blower wheel should do the trick for the long run.

    The new screen they use for catching the lint is too fine and plugs very quickly with whatever they put on the dryer sheets and it is a nightmare to clean. We use Goo Gone spray because the Goof Off wasn't working good enough. Our clothes would take for ever to dry. We usually have to do it a coulpe times inside and out before we put it back in.

      I believe they advise NOT to use dryer sheets. If it’s static that you’re concerned about, you can add the steam option which may take care of that.

    • @dmnyc8357
      @dmnyc8357 4 місяці тому

      Not sure. The fix has lasted a few years for me before needing another cleaning. Changing the blower wheel to the redesigned white one with wider blades is probably also a solution worth considering. If your current grill looks like the one I had on mine, the newer ones should work, but be careful, each model uses a different moisture sensor so you might have to improvise.

    Electrolux no longer makes the lint insert that fits that housing. The new parts are: Grill assembly 5304529759 Clamshell 5304529766 The issue with the new grill Assembly is it uses a newer moisture sensor. I make a silicone mold of the new moisture sensor, then poured a new plastic part that has the old school metal sensors inserted. Problem solved! I realize this is an advanced repair, as you have to make the new part, but it works if you do it right!

    • @dmnyc8357
      @dmnyc8357 Рік тому

      It's confusing because Electrolux doesn't list the parts in that way. I installed the 427 series filter parts on my 617 series dryer. And that's because they changed the moisture sensor in the later models. The bigger issue may actually be in the blower wheel, which now has wider blades so lint passes through instead of getting stuck. I believe that part is now universal, is inexpensive, and is the same part number across different models. I believe it's white instead of black. I believe you can't even get the original that was installed in our original dyers that failed because of the lint issue.

      It says if you have the 317 series you dont need the extra grille/sensor/cowling. But if you have a 417/517/617 then you need the extra part. I just received this updated clam shell today (5304529766). It is smaller than the original but it does slot into the clam shell receptacle. However it fits not as flush so I am not 100% convinced this is how it's meant to be. I appreciate this video, as it is exactly the solution I was looking/hoping for after cleaning out my dryer and repairing the shaking. HOWEVER... Apparently, Part #5304513574 (Lint Clam) has been discontinued and replaced by Part #5304529766, which is shaped differently and - as other comments have alluded to - does not fit flush with the Grill assembly Part #5304515376. As far as I can tell there is no "new" or alternative Grill Assembly part, which implies that it should fit. After receiving multiple "9766" filters, I can definitively say that it does NOT fit. Simply looking at the part, I can tell that it will cause items in the dryer to snag on the edge, and potentially cause the filter itself to either break or become dislodged. Therefore the recent comments make a LOT of sense. I'm honestly not sure how to proceed, outside of using the legacy filter assembly and simply replacing the blower fan and hoping that it's enough... Thank you for posting. I replaced the lint filter and grill assembly a couple of years ago. This partially fixed the problem - I still had to disassemble the dryer every 6 months because some lint escaped into the blower housing. I just replaced the blower fan blades with the new design. Fingers crossed this fixes the dryer permanently. If you choose to replace the blower fan note that you will need a 1 1/8 inch socket and a 1/2 inch drive socket wrench to remove the old blower fan blades. This is a large size socket so it is something you are likely to have to purchase specifically for the job. GLTA

    I ordered my parts according to the video a few months ago and unfortunately they were delayed. The supplier I went through indicated part # 5304513574 now subs to part #5304529766. The final part arrived today. The clamshell wasn't a perfect fit but it seems like it should do the job. When removing the old grill assembly, I could see in to the dryer the blower wheel was COVERED with lint. I used a shop vac (2 in) to feed it down there and vacuum it out. Was difficult to navigate, but the wheel looks to be clean now. If you had a small and flexible vacuum, it should be pretty easy to get in there. I used two #10, 2 in sheet metal screws for the grill assembly.

In addition to the Clamshell filter and housing replacement, the ultimate fix includes the updated blower wheel which has wider fins so the lint doesn't get caught in the blower wheel itself. The last time I cleaned my blower (about two weeks ago) I put weather stripping around the filter housing. There another major issue with this new clamshell lint trap. We have 2 of the Electrolux dryers purchased in 2019 that both came with this new clamshell design. The lint trap is very heavy and well fitted, however as the clothes tumble past it, they gat caught on the corners and lift this big heavy lint trap out and you will hear a very loud thumping as it tumbles inside the dryer. Meanwhile any smaller items fall into the lint trap slot and become wedged into the wheel at the bottom. This had happened numerous times and I have had to call for service to take the machine apart to remove articles of clothing or wash cloths. If you call electrolux they will will tell you they have never heard of this and have no solution. If you google it, you will find other people online who have had this same issue so I know this isn’t true. There needs to be some kind of lock on the lint trap to secure it in place. I would never buy this electrolux dryer again.

      Hi Lynn - I haven't experienced this problem myself and only know of it being an issue related to the older moisture sensors snagging clothing. @@dmnyc8357 Worth trying if it resolves the issue. Any pointers on knowing the part number? My machines were purchased in May 2017.

      @@toddgarvin2808 The replacement blower wheel is white vs. black and I think it's the only one they offer now . It's what's in all the newer models now! They just didn't tell us poor victims they had a "fix." I have one in my storage room and will reply with the part number by tomorrow assuming it's on the box! I've been waiting to see if I had to open the unit up again to clean it out before changing out the blower wheel as a separate project.

    When I search up the number for the clam shell it comes up as 5304513574, not sure if it was a misprint or a change up now?
