How to Install a Window Motor and Regulator in a 2004 Honda Accord Coupe

- In this video I go into detail on how to replace the window motor and regulator on a 2004 Honda Accord coupe. The installation procedure is slightly different for the coupe and the sedan. Update: The automatic function for the driver's side window has started working again. Part used: Dorman 741-304.

Thank you so much for the detailed video! I successfully changed the passenger window motor and regulator on my 2003 Honda Accord coupe today after following your instructions.
Replaced my regulator in a front passenger side sedan.
I would add the following:
Don't use a screwdriver for removing the inner door cover, start at the top corner by the mirror, I did it without tools.
When replacing the motor and the lift, put in one bolt in each at the key hole location. This will aid in placing the pieces in the right location. That is why there are keyholes.
The job took 25 minutes.
The cause of the failure was the cable broke at the end by the little crimped ball that is load bearing.
Replaced mine yesterday, regulator and motor for $30 off Amazon! Auto Zone and everyone else wanted 60-$100 for them.
Thanks so much! I saved my sister several hundred dollars and many groans trying to order at the drive through without being able to open her window.

look at the regulator and motor attaching screws. 2 of the ones for the motor and one of the top screws, the holes are slotted in the door. you just need to loosen these.......then when you remove the regulator swap those 3 screws over to the new regulator/motor unit, and just slide the screws into the slots. it will hold the assembly for easier assembly.

By the way, I found this video that solves the problem you mentioned at the end, about how to restore the automatic function of the window
(basically, turn key in ignition twice without cranking, lower all the way and keep button down for 3 mississippis, and then roll the window all the way back up, keeping the switch up for 3 mississippis .. this resets the function somehow. it's demonstrated in the video)

the auto function can be easily programmer, by lower window and hold it for 5 seconds the rise it and hold it for 5 seconds, and you got your auto function on your after market switch.

Thank brother. I saw another video that must have been for the 4 door, because the trim was different. 7th gen 4 banger coupes are the best. Just got all my trim off and it started raining, will update w/ how it goes. My window is stuck UP, I assume I can force it down to access the bolts when ready.

Lex T-rex I’m from up north in Tennessee, haha. If you hear a clicking, it means it at least has power going to it. I prefer to replace the motor and regulator all at once so I don’t have to worry about opening it up again, but it might just be your regulator.

I have the sedan version and it’s so much more difficult it took me like an hour to get the old one out
great video bud! for whatever reason after i replaced my motor and regulator, my door panel wouldn't seat correctly, and now its just crooked. i've tried to put it back every which way, just won't sit in place correctly

yup they sure do... i was able to get all 4 screws in exactly right without any issue. but the door panel is still misaligned. its weird

Jay B. As far as I know, there is a way to unbolt the regulator while it’s up, but if you can’t reach the bolts, it might be possible to push the window down with your hands.
Hope somebody answer my question (Honda Accord 2006). Can a glass window ran in its canals so bad to the point that burnt the electric motor? This question is because I just installed a new motor and regulator (combo) and it worked for a little while then burned fuse… after replacing fuse and with the window switch in my hands I connected the old electric motor (out of the window) and it runs perfectly. Now I ended with the window driver stacked all the way up just like in this video… but with a new part in it.
Note.- If there is any video dealing with this same issue… can you post the link?

How did you figure out it also the regulator/motor. My buttons have went out on forst my drivers side and a year later my passenger.
You’ll typically still hear the motor trying to work if the regulator is broken.

@@AJSWoodworks - One thing I noticed on Rock Auto is that the ES and LS versions use different switch part numbers. I think I have ES as the car has leather seats. There must be some electronic feature that is different. Unfortunately I broke the passenger window switch plastic (of the driver side switch assembly) when I was disconnecting the switch. The window connector was very tight.
i have sadly learned to never buy car parts on amazon. multiple times on both of my vehicles, things I have ordered have not fit despite using the vehicle fit checker. hot garbage. Now I go to either Rock Auto, Oreily, or Napa.
I never use the vehicle checker. I search it on the manufacturer website, find the part number, and then search that I Amazon. Works 90% of the time, but you still get burned sometimes.
The door cable always always be nice with that plastic or is going to be an extra job..if you dont put a new one the same day door wont open from inside

Manny Hal In my case the window sash clip was not broken, so there was no need to fix it.
Helpful video, but I didn’t see where you reconnected the door latch handle.
Dennis Kubiak Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a good view of it with the camera. The green piece on the cable simply snaps into a clip sideways and a small hinged clip folds down on top of it. I hope this helps.
Good video. How do you get the regulator to move in order to pull the bolts that hold the window base? Is there something to release? My friend has one of these but the regulator is stuck at the bottom.
Matthew Mahadeo You should be able to pull the window by the glass or push the regulator up. My window was loose and easy to move since the regulator cables were broken.
@AJS WOODWORKS Does this work for the passenger side, too. And is there anything in the process that would make the car not crank once the door is taken apart, you think?
deejeanlee Yes it does. There is a different part number for the passenger side, but it’s the same process. Not that I know of, unless something was shorted. But that’s unlikely.
I just install a motor and regulator in a Honda accord 2005 and was working fine for 30 minutes and then it just freeze happily the window was closed. What’s going on?

nevermind, got it! had to pull my window up out of the door and rotate it a bit to get to them
Have you removed all of the bolts for the regulator? You can try detaching the regulator completely to see if that will help the window come down, so that you can reach the other bolts. Did your window not move at all before you started to replace the regulator?

but what if the window is all the to the top, how do I remove it??
runspenstinski I would think that if your window regulator were broken, the window would be loose, and you could easily push/pull it down. If not, maybe your regulator isn’t broken and just the motor is, I’m not sure.
I had this problem; one window-to-reguator bolt was visible and I used a wrench but the other was behind the metal. I could see it thru one of the holes so i used a piece of dowl like a chisel and hammered it milimeter by milimeter until it came loose. Finally i could rotate it with the inside of one finger wearing a rubber glove (dipped in chalk dust for traction) and it came loose. Took a long time but worth it.
I had the same problem, the window would only wiggle up and down about 1" total and both bolts holding the window were towards the very top and not visibly accessible. The one on the right I could reach using a box end wrench. I was about to drill an access hole for the left bolt when I realized I can access it with the box end wrench from the big access hole in front of the motor, you just have to reach with your arm. The cable came off of the pulley and I cannot get it back on
On your old one? Unfortunately I’m not sure how to get it back on. I’ve never had that issue

@@shellsncheese9934 That’s odd. You could try to cross over the wires and loop it over the spool, then just plug the window motor in to power and wind it up, but I’m not sure if it will work.
@@AJSWoodworks well there's a white "Y" piece that needs to fit on, with two springs on each side. And it won't stay in place if the cables don't have enough tension. 🤦🏼♀️ What a headache. I'd hate to have to purchase a whole new regulator since mine is technically broken, just came undone.

Mohsin Cheema Your regulator may be broken, or your electronics that control your window are not working. Check the regulator, then check the fuse or wires for the window.

Mohsin Cheema I’m not sure why that would happen. Sounds like an electrical issue though.

Thanks for the great video, I cheated and took the regulator and motor out and then cleaned the brushes & magneto piston, regreased & cleaned/lubed tracks and got away without spending any money.....grin
It will reset itself after driving the car a few times. Some pieces were broken on mine, so greasing was not an option.
