My f350 window was stuck all the way up but about a half inch. Would not move. Took everything apart still no movement. Couldn't get to the clamps that hold the glass in so I used your suggestion and cut the cable and that solved the problem. You're the only one in a dozen videos that mentioned cutting the cable as a last resort. Thanks
Thanks for your video. Was the real one to replace dead regulator to bring the window down. All videos I’ve seen showing with motor working to replace.
Thanks for this video & the one on troubleshooting had 2 go on old Fit within a week stuck up. Thought it was unusual, but it was the regulators. You saved me a lot of time & money.
The old tap trick fixed my window. Thanks! But I'm probably going to replace the regulator anyway since it is a 2005 and I'm worried it will fail again.
Great video showing how to access and replace the regulator. However, based on my experience, you ALSO HAVE TO FIX THE ROOT CAUSE of the problem that caused the regulator to fail. If not, the new regulator may prematurely fail after one year... My 97 Civic is over 23 years old. In my case, I additionally had to PARTIALLY REMOVE the rubber window "run channel" (I only removed the left and right "sides" of the channel), CLEAN THE CHANNELS of accumulated dirt (I used cotton swabs soaked in "Goo Gone" but I guess soapy water would work as well). In addition, it was easy to completely REMOVE THE WINDOW from the door. Once removed, it was important to thoroughly CLEAN THE FRONT AND BACK EDGES of the window. Finally, I read that the "run channel" should be LUBRICATED WITH SILICONE GREASE. In particular, I read that Honda's Shin-Etsu Silicone Grease, part @-9013 should be used to lubricate the channels. My local Honda dealer price-matched another dealer's price; I paid $18.15 for one tube. Since I had gone through two regulators, each lasting only about one year, I GENEROUSLY GREASED the channel AND both sides of the window's left and right edges BEFORE REINSTALLING THE WINDOW. After re-assembly, the window moved up and down without any hesitancy. In comparison, the other windows moved much slower - so, I will do preventive maintenance for the other windows by removing the windows, and thoroughly cleaning the window edges AND run channel. Cleaning removes the accumulated dirt, which allows the window to move freely, and reduces the load on the window regulator motor and assembly. Hopefully, reducing the load on the regulator will prevent the regulator from failing again.
Anytime you repair/replace something you should find the root cause of course. That being said, although run channels being dirty (and folded over) can cause problems these motors/regulators do not typically fail due to run channel issues (its the brushes/cables/plastic parts that wear out). Also, any quality silicone grease/paste will work, you do not necessarily need to buy the Honda grease for these. Thanks for the input.
Thanks for the vid! I had the door apart and the new regulator and motor ready to install, but tapped on the motor and the window was back to rolling up and down again! So I put the door back together and called it a day 😄
I cut the cable and the window still wouldn't go down. After an hour more of trying to figure out why, I jiggled it around a bit and it finally git past the point it was getting stuck at. I think it was getting stuck somewhere in the rubber track. I probably shouldn't have removed the four regulator screws before cutting the regulator/motor cable because the window probably couldn’t track properly after I removed those screws.
I have a 2004 honda civic sedan and was able to pull down on the metal rail attached to the window motor to yank the window down. The issue was the motor assembly cable had snapped into two preventing the window from rolling down.
I reached in through the hole above the speaker with a wrench and carefully loosened the front bolt until i could spin by hand. The other bolt was accessible from the upper rear hole in the door. Didnt think to cut the cable

Do they commonly all go at the same time? My daughter got a used Honda with 3 of 4 that won’t go down. It’s starting to get hot and she don’t have a/c. There’s no way we could do this without screwing something up. This doesn’t seem like a big money job (it seems like a nuisance job) for mechanics and we have no disposable income. I understand that if it’s not a big money job, auto profs don’t want to touch them (which I can understand to a point) but....I’m wondering... To avoid getting scammed into a ton of new or unnecessary repairs to make this nuisance job a big money job....is there something a customer like me could say or ask the professional while shopping around to make it seem like we are not easy pray? I am not looking for free or unreasonable, I just want to not get completely railroaded. Ty.
It is common for window regulators/motors to go out on Hondas, but generally not all at the exact same time. If they all stop working at the same exact moment it is probably something else (like a relay or other electrical issue). That being said, I commonly see older Honda that have multiple non working windows because they went bad one by one and the owner did not fix them as they went out (probably due to cost). To avoid getting taken by a mechanic, I would probably try to fix/diagnose the most important one and go from there.
Hello, hi how can I get only the 2 plastic that hold the window, I hope you can help me, everything is working fine with my regulator but only those 2 plastic came off from the glass and they are cracked, in advance thank you very much
Do you have any idea on how to get the window up if it's all the way down? Switch isn't moving it and motor seems totally unaccessible. Trying to replace the window regulator and need to get it up far enough to remove the bolts from the window.
Worked like a charm! I've yet to encounter this problem but now I have an excellent reference if I do. Nice tip on the all-weather tape too. I need to fabricate a new vapor barrier for MY car but I was gonna look around for a similar adhesive in a tube or something. I get cold air intrusion in the winter months at higher speeds. Thanks Dave.
How is the window attached to the thing (regulator?) you installed? I have a 2000 honda accord and the drivers window doesn’t go down although the thing that makes the window go down goes down. Severs times the window has come apart from the moving mechanism and I have to take apart the door panel to get the window back on and up. Should the window be bolted? Mine is not.
Contrary to popular belief, I had much better luck with my 2016 Passat than with the 2017 accord I have now right now. The accord has way more problems.
Thanks a lot for your video it really helped me i was able to snip cable and the close my window for now. My new window regulator wont be delivered for about a week. I was able to use cable to secure it in up position.
Keep the quality content coming! I've got one for you: 05 Odyssey EX-L drivers side passenger window rolls itself down and wont roll up in the rain. Pull side panel and motor is hot to touch. Scan tool connects but window wont go up or down. Take power straight to window motor. Nothing. Replace window regulator (Honda parts only) and she works! Same damn day the same thing happens again. Ok, replace the multiplexer and switches on drivers door. Problem fixed! Well not really, 2 weeks later it happens again! IN THE RAIN. Any ideas?
Thank you for the comment! There is a Multiplex unit in driver's switch (control unit) and there is one in the under dash fuse box. Issues with a Multiplex unit can definitely cause problems (I would look for MICU/B-CAN DTCs). The Multiplex unit in the Driver's Switch has the ability to open/close the windows when a signal is received from Door Key Cylinder/Or from Keyless Transmitter, issues with signals from either of these can cause problems. There is also a rear Multiplex unit on those vans as well as multiple control units that are all interconnected. Water intrusion behind left rear panel can get into the electrical connectors and cause numerous Mulitplex issues (the C701 connector in particular). Removing left rear interior panel and spraying outside with water can show if it is leaking. Honda recommends packing the connectors behind there with dielectric grease. If there are any additional issues with headlights/locks/wipers/keyless entry/communication errors, this is where I would start. There are relays inside each passenger window switch, problems with these relays can cause issues (but generally only when Key-On power/Key Off Timer is activated). You will have to catch this issue in the act. There is a good chance the original motor burned out due to this issue. Spraying water on different areas of van separately and looking for issue (scan tools and test lights help) can help isolate where the problem is originating.
Dave another good video (Honda). Thank you for sharing all of your tips. Good things to know. Will have to watch the video on how to reset the switch assembly. So much electronics everything needs to be programmed. Coffee time thanks again. ❤️️
hi, I have an 05 accord, my passenger window is stuck, fully closed. So the motor recently broke, i bought a new motor/regulator for 35$ or so and put it in. It seemed to be working, but during the final inch or so when I would be putting it up, it slowed down. I parked my car for about an hour, and when I got back, it had already died again.. The switches still click, just no movement of the window. Did I put it in the grooves wrong and cause the motor to die or something? I have a new regulator here and ready to install, I just couldnt get my window down enough, so thank you for making this video. Im just curious if it was my fault for doing a bad install or what? is that a possibility?
Hello. I'm stuck on my window issue. 2002 Acura TL. New motor, nw regulator both work when tested, fuses good, relay under hood good, fuse box has power, have tried new switches at front passenger door (problem window) and new driver master switch. Power lock works on the problem door. But after replacing the speakers in front doors I noticed my passenger window wouldn't roll down. I assumed I forgot to plug a connection back together. Took door apart and everything is connected. I don't know where to look next. Please help! Thank you
I have a different problem that I can't seem to find any videos on my driver side window when you push the button to go down it will only move like an inch or so and then go back to where it was originally without doing anything automatically but it's stuck about an inch from closing all the way. This is on a 2006 honda accord 4 door.
A simple test light is probably best. Unplug window and use the test light in place of window motor. I showed it at about the 20 minute mark in this diagnostic video: ua-cam.com/video/6RTKsTAU4bs/v-deo.html
I just installed a new window regulator, rolled it all the way up to test it and now it won't roll down what could cause this? I can't get my replacement window in now!
What does it mean when I changed the back door and window set up motor and glass and the window doesn't go up or down with back control and only goes down with front master control
If the motor does not work anymore, there is no real way to manually move the window other than cutting cable (which I showed) or removing the bolts that hold the window glass to the regulator (very difficult to access the window glass bolts when window is in the up position). As far as showing the install, that was not the point of this video, this was simply a tip video on dealing with window regulators when you can't lower the glass to access the bolts.
thank you so much! crackhead smashed the driver side window to steal a pair of cheap sunglasses. found a $30 window replace at a junkyard but got stumped on how to remove the window with no power. Tried to hook up the power to the window regulator but found out that that thing was busted. removing the regulator from its bolts did the trick! I did try to cut the cord but that was to difficult.
What about when this happens? My car the window goes down but then going back up once it's about 3/4 up it stops and makes a nasty sound til I pull on the window then it slowly goes up from there
One should ALWAYS test the motor first by hooking up alligator clips directly from the motor to a 12 volts source. I made the mistake of cutting the cable & didn't test the motor first. So had to but a new motor/regulator kit. The motor is fine all along but I have a broken wire somewhere behind the door grommet.
The window regulator holds the window up on most of these designs, so if there is no regulator then it is pretty difficult to keep the window up without getting really creative (sticks inside the doors/tape on window etc.). You would not cut the cables if the regulator/motor assembly is good, this is only for when they are bad and the regulator/motor assembly is one single unit and needs to be replaced. If the motor/regulator was still good then you can move it down into position using power/ground where it can be removed normally.
My window is stuck up, but I can hear the motor going when I push the button, and it'll move very slightly inwards if I push down and outwards if I push up, is the window just stuck on something?
Possibly, but more likely it is an issue with the cabling that goes into the window motor or the motor itself. More often that not the fix for that is to replace the window regulator/motor assembly.
Here is a video showing me removing a Honda door panel (in the beginning of the video), many Hondas are similar. Thanks for the comment! ua-cam.com/video/KFtkQD74AAY/v-deo.html
@@BigDog50001 my issue is the driver side window is in the up position and it's getting power but won't go down ? I'm probably going to have to use a sledgehammer ?
Big Dog50001 Automotive tha k you so much for taking the time to answer! 🌼
Hello, hi how can I get only the 2 plastic that hold the window, I hope you can help me, everything is working fine with my regulator but only those 2 plastic came off from the glass and they are cracked, in advance thank you very much
Good stuff man you really helped me out. Thumbs up!!
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment!
does cutting the regulator wire work the same way if the window is stuck in the down position? i have to do this in the morning
Do you have any idea on how to get the window up if it's all the way down? Switch isn't moving it and motor seems totally unaccessible. Trying to replace the window regulator and need to get it up far enough to remove the bolts from the window.
Nice video. Those suction cups are cool. Thinking back to my younger days when I actually repaired my own stuff, I coulda used those!!!
They work well! Thanks for the comment RR!
I hope you used a little Windex on the window! it needed it! haha! great tip and video as usual Dave! keep 'em coming!
I like to leave the smudges on there, it's my signature lol! Thanks for the comment as always Mike!
@@BigDog50001 Ya know to me that makes complete sense!!!
Thanks Rob, i appreciate the comment!
This method worked. Cutting the cable is the way
Hey where’d you order the door cable? I can one find it for the sedan never the coupe
Good job Big Dog , !
Thank you, I appreciate the comment!
I need the parts on each sides of the window that the window slides up and down in?
How is the window attached to the thing (regulator?) you installed? I have a 2000 honda accord and the drivers window doesn’t go down although the thing that makes the window go down goes down. Severs times the window has come apart from the moving mechanism and I have to take apart the door panel to get the window back on and up. Should the window be bolted? Mine is not.
Will this work on any vehicle with a window regulator
Have a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. Passenger window goes up but not down. Where is polarity to motor changed. In switch panel or relay? How can I find out?
Contrary to popular belief, I had much better luck with my 2016 Passat than with the 2017 accord I have now right now. The accord has way more problems.
Ive never thought about cutting the regulator .👍 that trick will really help and those suction cups are awesome!! No need for duct tape lol
I used tape for years too, but after getting those suction cups a few years ago I never used tape again lol!
Thank you sir, exactly I had the same case. Your video solved my problem. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful, thank you for the comment!
Thanks a lot for your video it really helped me i was able to snip cable and the close my window for now. My new window regulator wont be delivered for about a week. I was able to use cable to secure it in up position.
👍
Nice job as usual Big Dog
Thanks!
I’ve snapped the cable & still can’t lower my window, any recommendations? 😅
Dave another good video (Honda). Thank you for sharing all of your tips. Good things to know. Will have to watch the video on how to reset the switch assembly. So much electronics everything needs to be programmed. Coffee time thanks again. ❤️️
Thanks Arthur!
can the plastic that goes inside the door that covers the wholes be replaced? What is it called?
Amazing thanks to this man right there I saved a good amount of change.. good old trick with hitting it lol man
I appreciate the comment, thanks!
Lmao im crien cos i be hitting that shit and itll work fr🤣🤣
hi, I have an 05 accord, my passenger window is stuck, fully closed.
Thank you
Another great video!
Thanks!
How do you get that unit back in ? i have 2006 honda accord coupe ....
I have a different problem that I can't seem to find any videos on my driver side window when you push the button to go down it will only move like an inch or so and then go back to where it was originally without doing anything automatically but it's stuck about an inch from closing all the way. This is on a 2006 honda accord 4 door.
Another fine job. I appreciate the information.
Thanks Wyatt!
Thank you, that was helpful!
What’s a solid way to “diagnose” this? I have a 2014 accord sedan; rear window won’t roll down but all others will.
Needs troubleshooting but I would look towards the switch on the door that was replaced as a possible issue.
is there anyways you can manually lower and raise the window? should have shown how you did the install
@@BigDog50001 THANK YOU
Can you cut the cable and guide the window down before you disconnect everything else.
You are the man!
Thanks 👍!
So you just saved me 💯 bucks 👍👍
👍
thank you so much! crackhead smashed the driver side window to steal a pair of cheap sunglasses. found a $30 window replace at a junkyard but got stumped on how to remove the window with no power.
How do you put a window up if the regulator has already been removed, and how does one not destroy the cable wires on the regulator to reuse it?
My copilot window is not working and my driver side windows the glass come out from the rails I don’t know how to fix it
thank you for the tips. great video.
would have been nice to see how to take the door apart
Here is a video showing me removing a Honda door panel (in the beginning of the video), many Hondas are similar. Thanks for the comment! ua-cam.com/video/KFtkQD74AAY/v-deo.html
If my passenger window wants to identify as "down" who am i to try and change it?
Great video. Thanks
I appreciate the comment, thank you!
I have very very difilculty to buy this power window regular to my honda.
What’s the suction cup tool you got there

My window is stuck in the down position how do I fix it?
Thanks I will cut the cable if I can't get motor to move !!
Thanks for the comment!
@@BigDog50001 my issue is the driver side window is in the up position and it's getting power but won't go down ? I'm probably going to have to use a sledgehammer ? I know there's power because I push the button down and the lights dim on the dash and the dome light dims down as well , in either the up or down position , thank God it's in the up position because it is winter time here in upstate New York ! Guess I will wait till I get a really big hammer , unplugged the switches and still the same ! 00 Honda Odyssey LX
