Octane is not a rating of explosiveness, higher octane is not equal to more power. It is a rating of resistance to combustion. So it doesn't ignite early in your high compression engine
I'm in Minnesota and I bought my first bike , I'm trying to learn as much as I can before spring time and watching your videos I feel is helping to give me a good understand thanks!!
THANK YOU for doing so many great beginner videos! i watched hours of your videos before i purchased my first bike more than 3 YEARS AGO! you're growing the motorcycle community everyday!
Driving cross country right now for work and using your videos like an audio book and I love it! Just passed my MSF so I’m soaking in the knowledge👍🏽keep it up Yammie❤
Your content has always been awesome, but it’s been hitting different in a good way lately. Through years of watching your channel I felt like I knew exactly what you were going to answer as soon as you read the questions 😂
For the push start question. Yes anything that is a manual transmission can be push started either in neutral or clutched then dump the clutch and it will force the motor to turn over implying you have traction and some speed. Just make sure the key is in and kill switch is off.
Beat me to it, ALL manual vehicles can indeed be 'push started'. Just simplifying the process here; you turn the ignition on with the correct key, get a rolling speed with clutch pedal/lever pressed and a gear in. Once up to speed, lift the clutch and the vehicle will start.
i rode daily for 24 years, and never stopped. but just as covid hit, I had a health issue which forced me to give up (adjourn) for which may have been a few weeks, ended up being over two years. I have a lot of experience and have even been a dispatch rider in central London, but upon riding my first bike for over 2 years (a Ninja 650 twin) I feel like I've just passed my CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) again. I've ridden for around 50 miles so far, but my throttle work is very jerky and I'm really out of practice. I'm finding myself watching a lot of these videos to remind myself that I can ride quickly and safely , like I used to. thanks for the help you are giving people like me 🙂
I'm trying to get my first bike, and your videos have given me much more understanding of bikes. And your videos are pretty funny and entertaining sometimes I just keep watching for no reason. thanks, coach this in my opinion is the best motorcycle Channel.
Papa was a fitting name as your channel has single handedly given birth to so many squids (myself included) itching to take my MSF and explore Austin on two wheels
Im picking up my first bike tomorrow, im fuckin stoked and all thanks to you papa yam, and some of my friends, this dream is coming true, gonna be a used 2018 XSR700 in the metalic red, already got some good mods but yeah im fuckin excited
Cold pavement is a problem most people don't think about. In the spring and fall, when temperatures drop down near freezing, the pavement doesn't allow tires to warm up enough for full grip.
Pushstarting a bike can be done, kindoff. For very small CC ancient single cilindre yes. for a more modern one- you could do the stator thing yammie mentioned, or put it in 2 gear, push with the clutch in , push push push pushpushpush. slowly release the clutch and vroom. the more complex electronic the bike has the less likely this is to work, especially if your battery is apsolutely completely caput. (not mostly drained but completely dead). even my carburated Non electronic packed 250 skipped a fiew sparks every so often untill I changed the battery.
When your battery is dead, it's not about giving the alternator rotation to charge the battery. Getting the bike rolling in gear and dumping the clutch will force the engine to turnover and then spin the alternator
Just pulled a trigger on my first new motorcycle. Kawasaki Vulcan 900 custom. Pretty excited about it and felt I got a good deal as it was the 2022 model brand new. However I have only ever rode mid control bikes and feel a bit hesitant on the forward controls of the vulcan 900. Hopefully this is a quick transition period of comfort/ liking the forward control.
Been binging your videos for a few days trying to figure out why you sound so familiar but i think I just realized that you just sound like matpat mixed with idubbz
One of these questions made me think of one. You mention newer bikes have a rev-limiter. What would happen if you were high up in the revs and down-shifted?
Think of it like a car, because it'd be a similar reaction. It's gonna over Rev the shit out of the engine, and have a ton of engine breaking while it's trying to slow the engine down
i set back on a motorbike once we went 180kmh i thought i will die at the back seat lol so fast, not much to hold onto, exhilarating feeling but oh god haha pretty nerve wrecking, but interestingly enough, i didnt feel any adrenaline pumping up just sweating
What kind of beginner motorcycle would be perfect for someone who isn't a speed demon, but is looking for something to commute to and from work, and maybe taking a relaxing Sunday ride?
Yo Yammie, I just moved to Cali as an international student and after some calculations I realised that the cheapest way to get a means of transportation is getting a motorcycle. Now I realise the R6 is way out of the question since I'd die on the 2nd day, but do you have any recommendations around $3k? I know its not much but I have to pay college in full so I cant splurge on anything just yet. Also I like the look of cafe racers and sports bikes. I will be using the bike to commute like 10 mins every day and or cruise with some friends in the evening.
😂 I know. Some of what he says is just talking out of his a**! Jump starting a motorcycle: He said one should hit the starter after rolling the bike in second gear. 🤣 No. Release the clutch just as one does with any vehicle with a manual transmission. The engine turns over from the vehicle motion and hopefully gets the engine firing when there’s no battery/starter to turn the engine. Pin lock helmet visors: there is no “film” to prevent fogging! The shield has two layers in the viewable area. The air between the two sandwiched layers of shield prevents “fogging”. The outer layer gets cold. The inner layer gets warm from your breath. But, the air between them mitigates the temperature and humidity contrast like insulation so no condensation appears on the shield. In many areas about motorcycles he’s no expert at all. He’s a video creator and his topic is motorcycles. He knows little more about motorcycles than the average beginning rider. His skill is video creation and editing. Factual content is tertiary.
Hey I know yami won’t respond but probably experience riders can but is it normal to have my visor up all the time while riding because I always have it up cuz whenever I get to a red light it just gets steamed up and I can’t see is there any thing what u do or is it normal to have the viser up a lot and only put it down when I go on fast roads also I’m only 16 so I have a ped which goes a whopping 30mph is it because I can’t go fast enough for the air to unsteam the helmet or is it just normal for people to have it up unless there going really fast
I`m very close to buying a 2023 Honda Rebel 500 and use it as a daily driver to work instead of my car. I really like the looks, reviews and (according to many) the perfect beginner cruiser. I love that bike but still, it`s not an easy decision to make.
i wouldn't say how long u have ridden gets u off being a beginner rather how much u have ridden...and as he said don't stop thinking like a beginner... atleast where I'm from we don't have the luxury to not think like a beginner
I got to test ride a used R7 at a dealer, if they have a used version they're more likely to let you test ride. Brand new bikes are probably a no go though.
No one wants to buy a demoed bike. It's frustrating. I sold motorcycles for over 10 years. I probably had 3 or 4 test rides. For used bikes and you could prove you could pay for it(credit and terms outta the way) test ride was no problem.
In Florida you don’t want to do wheelies first time is a thousand dollar fine second is a two thousand dollar fine for your third they revoke your license so I just don’t do them
Hey, i was wondering what starter bike i should get. I have ridden dirt bikes , and i’m on a crf250 right now. My dad also should be a good teacher, since he used to ride a lot and raced. I was just wondering if you think an r7 would be a good starter bike. Thanks!
Hey Bro, i am a new fan of your youtube Channel, bc i am thinking to get new spots bike, so my list are BMW310RR and Java Bobber 42. can you plz guide me for that. i would be forever grateful.
It's cool to watch these races on tv not so much when you're there. Sad statement for Harley that they bailed on their dirt track support because they have no answer for the Indian FTR 750.
Yammie what is your opinion on the Scorpion helmets? I think you haven't mentioned them in a helmet rating video I saw, and they seem really good. Particularly interest in EXO 1400 evo air solid carbon! :D
I've got a friend who has that helmet. All the reviews & safety ratings are really good and you seem to get a lot for the money! Haven't seen another full carbon lid for the price
Loved the ? about dealers allowing test rides! My 1st few bikes I had to bite the bullet and hope my research paid off. But on my latest purchase that as usual I fully researched I was able to give the bike a fair test! I explained to the salesman that my last bike was a Yamaha tracer 900. And told him how much I had ridden THAT bike. He didn't blink. He threw me the keys for the Triumph 800 I wanted to buy. He asked if I had gear or needed to borrow gear. Of course I had my own. You Can't blame the dealer for Not just letting ANYONE on a bike. But if you have an MC endorsed DL, gear and knowledge about bikes you should be fine. I mean really, if Eddie Murphy comes in talkin shit about how much he rode but doesnt know shit about bikes the salesman can tell. They just wanna know you are qualified in my opinion...
You can rev match even on a potato Harley, these are continuously meshing sequential gears, they are NOT the same as car transmissions. Doesn't matter if you have 0.5 HP or 500, if they have a standard motorcycle transmission then its better to not use the clutch when shifting (wears out the clutch and that throws contaminants into your oil wearing everything), the only times you might use it are between gears 1 and 2 since that's often a large jump.
I need someone’s opinion lol. I am 20 years old and I wanna get into riding I am taking the (basic rider course) in a month and after that I wanna purchase a bike but I am stuck on what bike to get I know I want something I can learn on but not get bored of I am also a bigger guy at 6’1” and 260lbs any help is appreciated.
Why are you recommending that new riders should lane split in states where it is illegal? Are you trying to get them in trouble with law enforcement? Not cool man!

Yeah it was odd Yammie didnt know that
Looking forward to the first track day walk through!

Yammie when pushing a bike off ya dump the clutch and it starts. I've never tried hitting the start button but I've done this way many many times.
11:20, look up bump start. Everyone needs to know this skill.
Papa was a fitting name as your channel has single handedly given birth to so many squids (myself included) itching to take my MSF and explore Austin on two wheels

That first track day is gonna be nice to learn from
I would love a video on how same cc engines make different power
20 mph corner with the railroad tracks 90° to the right in the rain. Second gear rear brake only.
Could you review the Scorpion exo-r1 air corpus please I need that extra reassurance from Mr.yams before I bite the bullet on a new helmet
When your battery is dead, it's not about giving the alternator rotation to charge the battery. Getting the bike rolling in gear and dumping the clutch will force the engine to turnover and then spin the alternator

one thing i learned the day i got my fz09, the bike wont bump start when the etv fuse is blown LOL
Been binging your videos for a few days trying to figure out why you sound so familiar but i think I just realized that you just sound like matpat mixed with idubbz
Jumpstart bikes works very well in smaller bikes because the engine will start moving with less effort
When lane splitting near a Tesla does it make the Tesla break or swerve automatically? Would like your thoughts on that.

better helmets dont steam up. so, i'd say get a better helmet if possible.
AGV K1 under $300 with a Rossi paint scheme and amazing features was my choice.
