I like your old school techniques. People these days would rip that slab out and pour fresh, love that you restore and fix instead of replace

Appreciate your old-school approach Mike. I calculated it and it $45 every of the year for the driveway for materials, if you did it every other year for 30 years, it would only cost $675 total. It's only $22.50 per year for materials oh, and of course you don't charge yourself for your own labor as a homeowner.
I had my first call, and had a contractor come over this last Monday, he wanted $18,000 to rip out, and pour a new concrete slab for my thousand square foot concrete driveway. If you divide $18,000 by 30 years, that's $600 a year for materials. Cost prohibitive. The way you're doing it is the most economical and makes the most sense! And easy to do if you know how to hold a paintbrush and paint. I just saved $17,325. Plus there's no concrete going into landfills, and I can keep my original driveway intact, and it'll last indefinitely.

Hey Mike. Quick question on how you feel of using "s mortar" with Portland added to it instead of just the Portland to paint on. I used the same technique with s mortar to restore cap stones on a retaining wall at my house that was deteriorating in spots badly. Sure beats ripping them out and having to dispose of them. Learned so much from your videos thank you!

Mike I love your program and seen them all. However is there a program that you may have on installing and repairing foam moldings on homes. I’ve used what you have taught me on videos for many repairs down here in the tropics. Cement also blows out due to water and heat but very little. However, try to find someone to make repairs and they are scarce since many people don’t want to work due to Federal housing, food programs and other benefits. You have to do these small repairs yourself. Your program has been a blessing to me. If you can do a program on foam moldings, installation and repairs it would benefit many people. “Thanks for your program!”

Hi Mike, I am really enjoying old school techniques in your videos. Learning a lot. The concrete paint is impressive!! along with many of your patch techniques.
Do you have any examples of repairing hairline (less than 1/8") cracks in exposed aggregate driveway. I do not want to use the caulking as thye look like .... I was thinking of rubbing in some portland cement (or rapid set?) mixed with a bit of water and glue?? , rub it down with sponge before it sets up and then hit it with some mud wash. ..??

The one question I didn't see answered in the videos was the drying time on the portland paint. How long from application to the time you can drive on it? That Rapid Set mortar mix is a great product.

Very cool technique, and thank you for showing us the follow-up after 6 months! Have you considered or tested any techniques that may increase the durability of this technique? e.g., wet burlap for a couple days to allow more time to cure, or an acrylics cure & seal (same reason), or even a penetrating sealer to slow down water infiltration/ice formation in the cold weather?

Would you recommend doing this top coat method to concrete patio that is 10 old and has the entire surface wearing away slowly ?
It's an extension of a patio that's 40 yr old and is in good condition. We poured the newer patio section ourselves in the summer at about 11 am on a sunny day and just left it to dry. Years later I started reading about concrete and watching your videos I think we should have kept the concrete wetted during the drying time to slowly cure. I think the fast drying is what caused the surface to slowly wear away and expose the tiny aggregate making it rough looking.
Would that hold onto the existing concrete and slow down the erosion? Is that flim flam man Honest Mike still selling questionable tools at the flee market. "Honest Mike for President".

Hi, I had a concrete company give me bad concrete a few times where the whole top spalled off, my guess is that is what heppend, every once in a while you get a bad load, no matter what I did every two or three years I would have to go back and patch it up, nothing I seen lasted more than that, thanks Mike

I want to make an artsy catch basin for a downspout of my house. And - I want to re-point (? I think that's the correct term) some rock veneer to keep the wasps out. There's so many kinds of cement at the store. Portland, Mortar mix, Mason Mix, High Strength concrete, Sand/Topping mix. Argh. Help me pick? It's cheap, but the bags are very heavy!

They heat and dehydrate the portland to a point that as soon as it hits water it does react and solidifies. There are additives to speed up or slow down the reaction.

@@philindeblanc Been thinking about your post Phil and it makes total sense. If you try to add water to rapid set to stretch it out it seems to make the situation worse. That stuff will literally set under water. Also, here in the UK one bag will differ from the next. One mix will give you just enough time, the next bag will set to quick. Maybe shelf life comes into the equation ?. Anyway, thanks again.
