Hi Mike. I am 60 years old and live in North Alabama. I just started working on my front concrete driveway. You make it so easy to refurbish the concrete without all the expense. It is so easy to do without all the hassle for me. Thank you so much for the videos! Very educational.

I think some people asking questions don't realize there are others who just want there driveway to look nice even if it means a little work every year or two.... Yup, I have done this type of repair in Ontario many times, it truly is not permanent, but at the same time allows you to spruce up your porch top on the cheap, and very quickly. Same can be said for using a masonry coating in the same fashion for making your parging look like new. Price wise this makes sence more and more considering the costs of replacement. Good job Mike!

    • @pensive69

      '...it truly is not permanent,..'
      what is permanent anyway?
nothing built is permanent. at least not in this part of Penna. close to Mike's city.
funny how people will use blacktop re-surfacer and asphalt sealer without calling it permanent but hesitate to resurface with cement because it's not permanent.
i'd like to experiment on my own driveway.
bond half with the commercial cement "glue" and half with Mike's suggested Portland paint. see which lasts the best and maybe why.

My 60 year old concrete driveway has held up okay but needs a face lift. I was considering a chip and tar covering but I'm certain the price will be prohibitive. Social Media had made people become so literal. Like come on people, Mike never said this is a fix all. It is putting lipstick on it and making it look nice and some prevention maintenance. But some of these people think this should hold the golden gate bridge.
As for me I appreciate these tips and tricks to dress something up, and a form of maintenance. I patch concrete driveways a lot. Me and the customer both understand it is not the same as if I rip the whole damn thing up. But it is affordable and slows down the chipping away. Again thank Mr. Mike for the great videos and product knowledge.

Thanks Mike, I am going to try this on my old patio (poured in 1958) and was about 3 inches thick, color treated, but is now worn and in some places lifted by pine roots, so I thought I'd use the diamond cup to help smooth out the rough places. I watched the "how to" for stone over concrete for patio, and it seems ideal, but flagstone here is very costly and there are not that many outlets here in Central California. I also need to replace an aging asphalt driveway, but looking at pavers here locally, after a few years, they all badly fade. I would prefer real cobble. What is your view for granite cobble?

Hi Mike, I live in Sub Tropical Brisbane, Australia. It ranges between 102° - 45° F. through the year. If I read you right its the freezing and ice that breaks the surface down over time. So if we don't get ice is a coating like this going to last a lot longer. I was thinking i would spray a clear sealer on it as well to prevent mould and algae which is the main problem we have in warm humid conditions

you have a way with presentation Mike; they are very effective and enjoyable.
i've reviewed this one a few times as there are a lot of concrete drives in this area and most of the owners use ice and snow melter's.
    so...there is accelerated wear.
done a few and do add washed/coarse sand to the Portland cement.
not a lot but enough to add traction in the Winter.
we get slippery conditions and more grit seems to help pedestrian and auto movement.
just a float or broom finish doesn't work as well when the surfaces wear down .
but then, as you point out, it's time to recoat.

Wow, thanks for all the info. You remind me of my dad. I bought a 2 year old house. Has a new concrete drive that looks that looks like the previous owner used some rock salt on it. "Spalling" has left some areas with lots of little craters/pock marks. I'm gonna try the concrete resurfacer stuff to fill in the marks and make it all smooth again. Central Indiana so we get lots of snow too. It's not a big drive - about the same size as your example. Concrete company quoted $3800 to come put a top coat on it. Hmm, that sounds crazy high!
I'll try that old school way first. Spend that $$ on other stuff!

Hi Pappy, I would not be in a hurry I would do a couple samples first a wait and see, it is a last resort before replacement, thanks mike

Thanks for the advice! It's more of a cosmetic thing - just want the drive to look "better". I'm ok with doing the labor/sweat equity. The unsalted areas look fine.

Reminds me of why I gave up on installing tile. I've never taken the time to find it but there has got to be real documentation out there for these processes. There is no way construction companies are calling up grandpa to get the family recipe for their projects.

      @MikeHaduck  2 роки тому

Hi Andrew, actually I get calls from a lot of engineers etc, for my recipes. What works in Florida don't work in Alaska, thanks Mike

@@MikeHaduck that's even more troubling and more reason to avoid concrete unless truly no alternatives. And when we install concrete we should treat it like a delicate flower and not subject it to moisture, freeze thaw, etc. And you say it yourself over and over, asphalt is better, that's not just in PA, asphalt is actually repairable!

Very cool Mike. I had no idea that this was even a thing! I'm tempted to try it on our busted up driveway. My only concern is a sunken block with a significant crack. I think I'll start with grinding the crack down to help with snow removal. Thanks for the video!

If it's too deep, you might want to think about slab-jacking that sunken area before applying this Portland paint.

this helps a lot in answering my question about stamped concrete too thank you for all you do one last question could one do a 1/4 inch pour over a concrete porch and patio to help level out the hills and valleys of an old pour and to gain proper slope i just don't have the cash to do a new pour
