You're the "Bob Ross" of concrete, haha! I've watched lots of videos about repairing concrete because our porch needs some patching, and I don't want to pay thousands of dollars to have it jackhammered, which is what most local companies want to do. This was the best, by far! I'm ready to tackle my little porch! I was an art teacher for many years, and have been doing home projects since I was 20. This will be a new one to try.
I've thought that same thought before. Bob Ross of stone masons. It must be true! Great video, proof that we can use the mortar mix on the porch steps even in the thinner spots! Thanks Mike!
Dear Mike, i sincerely appreciate every single time you say “Not make a big project out of it - not make a big deal out of it “ and also your consistency repeating yourself. Its very helpful for my style of learning
Mike guys like are very rare these days Teaching people bet. Old school and new School just like body else said ; straightforward and knowledgeable I am 63 yoa and didn't know anything about how to work w/ cement concerte mortar and more BUT your videos are making me like an expert cuz I am currently fixing my house thanks man , you are very good man and respected I hope you get blessed for your efforts
Thank you so much for making these videos. You helped me patch an inch wide shallow crack on my garage floor without it being this big over-complicated thing. Also love the mud trick- it worked beautifully to blend in the new patch. Thank you!
Thru the whole video I was thinking what you finally said at the end -“A patch is a patch is a patch..” So true. Patching concrete is a real art. I was never much of a patch man myself, but when I found a good one, I would hang on to him, whatever it took! Sometimes I would have to pay a good patch man as much as I paid lead carpenters. They’re hard to find.. 🤜🤛
What a good guy Mike is! I don’t like getting my hands dirty, but that doesn’t stop me from watching Mike “GETTING IT DONE” over and over again! Your lifetime of hard work has really paid off, Mike-THANK YOU for showing us the COUNTLESS tricks of the trade!!👍👍⚒
Beautiful Delivery, great commentary and I can also see a lot of old school knowledge and know-how at work. I also love the mud disguises. Truly inspiring and informative. Your mannerism (no big deal) and your total approach is top shelf. I just love it. Cheers Brother !!
Sir, You are indeed a craftsman. You explain and explain until even I can understand. I now feel confident enough to fix my broken front steps and cracked backyard patio area. Thank You, so much.
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience! We moved into our home three years ago, and our retaining wall and 50 year-old bricks are falling apart. Learning characters of mud, Portland, cement, quickset, cement, sand, gravels, watering concrete first, etc helped me to understand how masonry materials work together. So excited to be able to do some work in my backyard without asking my bank to loan some money!
Thank you my brother you just blessed my socks off down here in Louisiana. I have a couple or 300 feet of blacktop driveway and you made me feel pretty good. Like I was praying I did the right thing. Been 7 years ago, and it looks slammin to me and the big boss. But anyway, my brother, thank you very much for taking the time to share that with us. I pray you and yours have a blessed day.
Man I love to watch tradesmen work. Thanks for putting so much effort into sharing your knowledge and experience with everyone. A lifetime of learning.
Thanks Mike I have been watching a lot of your videos you're straightforward and extremely knowledgeable thanks for sharing years of your experience I love how you keep reminding to keep it wet which can easily be forgotten thank you again for your great ideas it's helped me out a lot have a great day and a big thumbs up to you
Excellent instructor, hit it with the Portland, no school like the old school! Make sure everything is wet, paint it on, old school bonding agent. Thanks Mike for your wisdom, and especially your videos, you are breathing new life in me,God Bless!
I attempted to fix my concrete patio cracks, before watching your video, glad I found your channel, binge watching your videos now, thank you for sharing your knowledge
THANK YOU !!! this was PERFECT for what I needed. MUCH better than taking everything out to the dirt and doing a whole new pour for tens of thousands of $$$
You did a great job explaining your steps and showing 2 different ways of completing the job. Plus you put in a little humor. Thanks for this great show and tell video.
I tell everyone who admires my masonry projects that all they need to do is follow Mike's directions on his UA-cam channel. I've resurfaced a block chimney, built a slate covered stoop and Portland painted an old garage floor. Thanks Mike, you've saved me thousands.
I'm addicted, I've been watching your channel for years, and just never get tired. To be honest I don't think I ever will. Thank you for these outstanding uploads on resurfacing and other amazing masonry work Mike. Just Amazing to watch Satisfying indeed!!!
Mike, you sir are a scholar and a gentleman. I have used several of your techniques over the years with amazing success!! Thanks from Albany, New York.
I learn an awful lot watching your videos. I never heard or seen anybody using the mud trick. I believe that is a great idea and so simple. Thanks Mike....
Another great video!- I wish I would have stumbled over your vids before I tried to fix my garage pad last year- but now I have a chance to do it all over again the right way- Like my Dad always used to say- "Any job worth doing- is worth doing twice"
Thank you for posting/sharing, i gave the video a like. Edit, Mike i wanted to let you know, since i started watching your videos, not only have i picked up/learned more about masonry but i also learned how to make comments, and videos better.
Wow!!! You rock my world, I’ve tried several of your fixes, awesome!!!! Going to the next step now with the painting w/Portland. Can’t wait!!!!!! My driveway is going to be marvelous!
I just got done watching a lot of videos on repairing concrete, and this was the BEST! I love the mud trick, and it’s obvious you know what you’re doing. Sometimes it’s not so clear on UA-cam. Subscribed! (Ps. Great presentation, you get right to the point, and all of the information was gold!)
Now I feel confident to tackle my small driveway project (2'x12' fix) Most of the driveway is Tar, but at the garage the concrete area is breaking up. N.E. sand and salt does a # on it. Thanks Mike.
I love the old-school technique as they do last longer than modern stuff in construction and cost less when you are trying to budge. I agree that cemented on its own is a bonding agent when activated with water but you really do need to keep on top of things when you're doing it yourselves. My late father taught me old-school techniques in construction and I still use them today at my own home. Great video thank you as it is always good to see old school techniques used in DIY it also saves you hundreds of $$$$$/£££££.
Thank you Mike My 1st time watching --very informative. You appear as if you love your work. Thank you for sharing your information. You make it look easy.
Mike thank you so much for this presentation that gave me the desire to he the bull by its horns the issue is that I’m selling my house but the realtor just informed me that she has to report the township some sidewalk damage and the charge you like 900$ per square fit of Repaired concrete sidewalk and I just told her I’ll do it but I wasn’t sure and after this video I’m sure now that I can accomplish that task as well. Txs again Mike. I appreciate it.
Thank you Mike for your tips etc. My 1st time watching you and very informative. I have to do a square in my side walk. A few years ago I had to do the same square with no type of ideals. Thanks again for your information and you appear as if you love your work and enjoy sharing the information. May i say God bless you 🙏.
It's been a long time since I watched your video. I work in this business. So it's nothing new now. But you are a good guy. Congrats on all your new viewers!! Peace!!
Thanks Mike for this great video - I have concrete steps (say 8 feet wide with 3 steps up) that have cracked down the middle and dropped slightly with maybe a 1/2 inch gap...I will try the new school rapid set hidden with your mud trick! Found the Rapid Set Mortar mix works well for the flatwork repairs we do Mike.
Great video and discussion of the two approaches.
The Mortar mix I've used so far has a fairly gritty sand stone aggregate; bigger and gives better traction than a smaller sand. It works really well on a drive. Customers seem to like that it cures quick and doesn't allow our mason crew to stand around and wait for the older Portland to harden. We're in we're out.
Thanks pensive, I agree, Mike
Thank you because we are getting ready to do our drive way this spring and we are putting Black top . Thank you
Thanks, Mike
