So far I've been playing a Defender pally, with that shield ability to use a bonus action to help defend a nearby ally. My party is mostly all melee, so it's great for keep everyone up, especially when combined with my auras. So far I'm only lvl 4 (3 pally/1sorc for extra smites), but I've picked up a few armor pieces that help make him more offensive (some gloves that give him advantage on melee attacks if he's got 2+ enemies in melee range. My armor/shield aren't anything really spectacular, but my AC is about 17 right now, and I've noticed that I seem to avoid hits pretty consistently at this point in the story. Looking forward to getting some more pally-centric armor/boots/shield, but so far it's pretty nice.
Who won the giveaway?
Are you going to update the before release videos of the other classes or upload entirely new videos for the full release of every class?
@@notrelatedtobacon1282 We're doing new videos for each class. Of course this will take a long time to complete as we have to play them all
@@Fextralife alright ,thats great to hear.
I appreciate the effort and understand that I'll take awhile, yall are doing great👍
Why this game is awesome: My half-orc vengeance paladin got one-shotted by a Minotaur, then stood up again with 1 HP, rolled a critical strike with rerolled max damage + smite stacks and felled the Minotaur in one turn. IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.
"Tiss but a flesh wound, NOW DIE!"

can you kill the demon tranny?

@@Hoser321xxxit's BG3 bro. It HAPPENED. I've seen so much and more. An every day I see something new.
Paladin + blade pact warlock lets you dump strength entirely and use charisma for both your attacks and spells. This will free up vital ability points to round out your stats instead of trying to manage 3 high priority ones (str, con, cha)
That's a really cool idea I haven't seen before. Thanks for sharing!
I was thinking about doing this, cant choose between oathbreaker or vengance subclass though, which one will you be going with?
Did you go Warlock sub at lvl 2 Pala to rush Blade Pact, or build Pala a little? I just realized that going Lock-pala was a bad idea, as Pala subclass doesn't get Heavy Armor..
@@jarlhenrik I ended up going to Pally lv 5 before multiclassing so i could get that extra attack
@@Th3Chuzzl3r I presume it's better to fully commit to pala until you're lvl 8, so you then can respec pala3/lock5 and get the extra attack that way through Pact of the Blade, while also having Eldritch, hex etc etc
We eatin' good today
Chicken tikka?
Chicken Tikka tawa
Got some food up in ther
13 CON at creation + Resilient CON at level 4 is insanely powerful on a paladin, as it becomes exceeding rare to fail a concentration save at level 6 at beyond.
Thanks for the tip! I was considering doing this :)
On what difficulty? We only play tactician around here.
@@JollygreenFullSteam Doesn't matter
Except when your hit by 50 dmg etc late game and you have to roll 25s. Isnt happening.
@@imperialknight3942 That's late game, who cares.
Thanks so much for these guides man, I started playing the game yesterday and it's my first time playing anything DnD like so there's a learning curve
It's important to remember to set up your reactions so that divine smite prompts whenever you crit. Even if you use the pommel strike bonus action that normally does 1-4 damage, it can still prompt double divine smite damage if you crit with it.
Yo, I don’t understand what you mean. Sounds important! Can someone please explain?
@@k4f in the game go in the reactions tab and tell the game to ask you when to use reactions. using a pommel strike for a bonus action can proc smite and thus do ful damage instead of the miserable 4 of a pommel strike
@@k4f So on your character/inventory screen there is a tab for reactions. There, you can set it up to where you can automatically use certain abilities in reaction to certain situations. One of them is called something like Divine Strike: Criticals. You can tell it to automatically divine smite whenever you crit. Or what I prefer, is you can also tell it to prompt you every time you crit and ask if you want to apply divine smite. So when you land a critical hit, a little pop up will come up asking if you want to use divine smite on the attack. Here is a quick video explaining:
ua-cam.com/video/wszmTEHiJls/v-deo.html
how to do that, where do I tell the game to ask me@@Morah_Veya
@@k4f You can set Divine Smite to go off whenever you land a critical, but you can get a critical hit on weak bonus hits. So you can set the game to ask whenever you land a critical hit, if you'd like to use Divine Smite in addition to that critical hit. You don't want to waste a spell slot for smite on a weak attack.
This works for plenty of other things that proc on reaction, or on critical hit, etc.
For people that want to multiclass, it is equally important to realise that you get a feat every 4 CLASS levels, not CHARACTER levels. So multiclassing after lvl 6 Paladin to get 6 levels of something else will net you only 2 feats at lvl 12 instead of the 3 feats you can get.
With that in mind, it's useful to consider multiclassing in steps of 4 levels on top of checking what class abilities you'd like to get from certain classes.
Uniquely, Fighter gets another Feat at 6, in addition to the regular 4,8,12 progression. So you can have Fighter 6 / whatever else 6 and still get 3 Feats.
That’s a shame
I am multiclassing paladin warlock oathbreaker because of mostly roleplaying/class fantasy
@@CsStrez Or do 8 fighter / 4 other class and get 4 feats (the max feats possible in game)
@somesingingpunchyhamster a month late but, how did that go? I'm considering a paladin build to play as in my co op run with my war cleric friend.
Man I love this channel. Helped me a lot with dos2, outer worlds, cyberpunk 2077, and now this awesome game. Proud to be a member
Good guide and knowledge! you really sum up everything I've been watching and searching online the past few days about the Paladin.
I so badly wanna play this game... Everything about it just looks near perfect.
Hope after this 5 months you have gotten the chance to play!
The moderator / commentator has a great voice. Love listening to him. Great channel !
I've been waiting for the class and build guides for this game to start releasing. Great work as always!
Just in time before I start my daily paladin routine! Thanks for the guide, having a blast with paladin!
Just when I was looking into Paladin, this shows up 🤜🤛
I don't know why I torture myself by watching these videos while I'm at work, lol. I just want to get home and load up the game😁
This is extremely helpful because I started with an Halforc Paladin, and I am glad that I kind of made a good choice, because I have no experience with this type of games.
the hard part will be to remember it all and getting more knowledge on all the other stuff in the game, it really overwhelms me, but I also have a lot of fun. I might have to set the difficulty on easy for now, going onward, have to see.
Thanks for the video!
Take most of your time as this is how DND-like games are meant to be played. The more you are being tactical with your preemptive moves, the better your chances of owning the round. Never rush and have fun! :)
This is such a good guide. I'm starting this game today, so I wish there were more class guides. Can't wait!
Give Fex time, one day you'll come here and it will be like the great library of info, content, etc. Fextralife is a national treasure that should be protected at all costs lol.
Ps5 players will benefit sooooo much from their delayed release ^^
Not my class, but I am looking forward to seeing others. Thank you for great guides!
This level of comprehensive coverage is the kind of thing 10 year old me only dreamed of. Thanks fextra team.
For my second playthrough, I'm doing The Dark Urge as an Oathbreaker Paladin for sure
The right guide at the right time. I just finished downloading the game and guess what I am going to play.
Ranger? XD
thanks fo the video, great content. i appreciate your dedication for gaming so much
best class in the game. Love Paladin
Excellent guide. I briefly started a Pally, but I am going to reroll with these tip! Thanks!
I really appreciate this video. As a returning player to this type of gameplay. I appreciate it. I played Divinity 2, it was confusing at first. Since returning, I understand this game player a bit better.
If you multiclass Paladin and Sorcerer, I recommend taking Gold Dwarf for your race and Draconic as your Sorcerer Subclass for the extra Hit Points per level. +2 HP per level really helps offset the downgrade to a Sorcerer's Hit Die, and you can double that to +4 per level by taking the 'Tough' Feat.
what about human ?
I just started a paladin and you upload this one, awesome!
I am currently playing a two weapon fighting paladin/ranger build. The offhand attack competes with a lot of paladin bonus actions and hunter's mark, BUT it very useful when fighting tough, resistant enemies that are weak to radiant. Of which there are plenty! It let's you spread your smites around to clear out multiple nasty enemies.
Also, you can get an amazing set of proficiencies and saves.
I’m playing a Ranger Knight, with dual wielding perk, trying to decide to multi class with Paladin, Cleric or Druid…. Can’t decide but Paladin as a secondary class sounds fun.
@@Sammybree Paladin is indeed fun. They have some useful spells and class perks, but nothing really beats getting to throw a smite on top of a critical hit.
@@Sammybree Fighter is a great multiclass for action surge, but Cleric and Druid mesh better with Ranger than Paladin due to also being Wisdom-dependent classes, whereas Paladin is multi-attribute but uses charisma for spells.
Ranger + War Cleric could be a good combo.
Just started my paladin play-through perfect timing!
Oath of vengeance. Great weapon master, pole arm master and sentinel when capped at 12. A badass!
Nice guides. I made Gold Dwarf two handed weapon paladin and now regeetting a bit after watching your guide. I might restart but we shall see.
Thanks for the guides. I am so lost with this game and there is so much to learn
best guides on youtube, I'm definitely gonna subscribe
yay new class guides with the released game! SUBSCRIBED!!
Thank you. This was a very helpful guide.
thst's the content I'm looking for. nice job
Paladin 2/6 & sorcerer X is arguable one of the most powerful multiclasses in thr game. Quicken Spell allows you cast full action spells and make melee attacks the same turn. Quicken Hold Person and run up for free auto crit smites or Quicken Haste to boost yourself martially.
Only issue with the build is that it uses A LOT of resources in a short time but the damage output and flexibility is unmatched.
Warlock 3 or 5 and rest Paladin is absurd. Pact of Blade so you can just go full CHA/CON. You also get an extra attack from hitting level 5 in both classes(so 2 extra attacks!), but just going just 3 Warlock nets you a lot of utility, with two level 2 warlock spell slots, 2 Eldritch invocations(buff eldritch blast with CHA modifier, superior darkvision, etc), and Pact of the Blade.
Starting Paladin is better for heavy armor proficiency tho.
alternatively look into BM commander strike. U can have someone in your aprty grant u a weapona ttack as a reaction. Meaning without quickened spell u can cast hold person, then smite them as a reaction.
@@CsStrez extra attack doesnt add together if you hit lvl 5 with two classes get it. Warlock is still a great pick
These are always so informative
Awesome,waiting for the rogue episode
Yes! I’ve been waiting for these videos! I’m really hoping you do a school of lore bard build.
I decided to go crazy and try a drow dexterity dual wield paladin. Felt more roleplaying appropriate. But it's actually worked really well. With dual wielding feat and the right gear to boost AC I was able to block a route, surrounded by 6 enemies who virtually never hit, whilst I was dishing out 3-4 hits per turn.
I want to try a Sword Bard/Paladin mix for a Drow Paladin of Eilistraee. I wish we could optionally pick a god as paladin.
Very very informative! Thank you!
Very helpful guide. Thanks for your time.
Was about to level up to 3, and I see this. Time to think a bit more about my character
On paper they are amazing! They sound just as much fun in BG3
I can highly recomend warlock paladin muticlass lets you ignore the STR stat with packt of the blade. I recomend gonig with only one class until lvl 5 then respec at level 6 into 1 level of pala (Heavy armor proficencie) and 6 levels warloc and then tacking pala levels as you go. You can even cocider tacking some sorc levels after level 9.
Hecka fun vid, I look forward to seeing the rest, I'm toying with fighter/thief atm so suggestions wouldn't be bad.
My class of choice this time, i like the analysis!
I'm constantly using the defender style with a shield. It's really good
Love this…but I hope we get expanded content that gives us Conquest. Feel like the fear mechanic would work wonders within the game. This is also one of the subclasses that also gains a lot of benefit from bigger charisma since you need it for the spell dc.
THIS is the video I was waiting on. Sadly Im already 20 hours in on a Dragonborn Paladin, missing the Teifling bonus smites.
Looking forward to the druid guide!
Thanks for the video.
Very helpful . I'm vengace paladin in my 1st multiplayer play through. Thanks
I went with Paladin MC on my first playthrough and they don't get really powerful until about level 5. Other than that, it's a simple class to manage and the high charisma makes it really good for being the face of the party.
Excellent, very complete video!
Okay I can cop now. Thanks!
Paladin 7 + Warlock 5 gives you two extra attacks. Currently the extra attack from Warlock(Pact of Blade) stacks with other classes extra attack as it isn't considered a feature in BG3 allowing you to get 3 attacks from a weapon attack. This may be a bug though.
Edit: You can get con proficiency from a hired 6th level Wizard(Transmutation). The wizard can create a Transmuter's stone. There are various effects that it can give, namely increase movement or proficiency in Con are both good choices. You do not need to keep the hired wizard in your party, just have him create the stone and put it into your inventory then remove him from your party. This can help free up a feat slot since you wouldn't need war caster/Resilient feat for concentration spells. Though you will have to create it again after each long rest.
yo! that edit is amazing! I'm doing that right now!
That padlock 3 attacks is definitely not D&D 5e, so I'd assume a bug, but who knows.
the stacking extra attack is crazy and will probably get patched soon, but i have to try this with haste. 6 attacks per round?!
it's definitely a bug since the description says that extra attacks of different kinds should not stack (the description in BG3, not dnd). Whether they'll ever fix it is a whole different question :D Thanks a lot fo the edit, it was very helpful.
It says it doesn't stack, so definitely a bug
@@LordCommanderVex Agreeded I believe it is a bug, though there is a slight argument to be had. The Extra attack feature states that "If you gain the Extra Attack feature from more than one class, they don't add together.". The pact of the blade however does not technically give you the extra attack feature specifically as it is built into Pact of the Blade instead. By RAW it appears to be working but by RAI I believe it shouldn't.
One thing that has worked for me in D&D and similar games for off-tanks, but also even main tanks to a degree, is to focus on armor class over constitution. If the enemy can’t hit the tank, it’s pretty hard to kill the tank. A dexterous fighter/Paladin can have a really high ac, and they become really tough to hit when combined with heavy armor, allowing you to take a couple points out of con, which is nice because now your paladins and fighters get a little extra help from the dex saving throws.
thank you for informative video :)
What a nice and in dept guide. I like it. :) I wanted to try paladin at some point. Also I'm curious in sorcerer. :D
As a pally main on the table top, it is so satisfying seeing the Misty step into just turning them to mush combo play out 😂 plus a couple of brain bug powers letting you turn a hit into a critical just let's you melt bosses before they even act
The brainbug crit power is op
@@mikeclarke3990 yuuuup, the only two upgrades you need
lol! In 99.9% of my D&D games, I always go pally first, but in this one I decided to try something different, so I picked sorcerer. But maaaannn... the urge to roll back into pally is gigantic... hahahaha.... I'm forcing myself to hold on a little longer and get a few more sorc levels, to see if those big f*cking guns, I mean, spells, make the class fun to play.
I'm playing Warlock/Sorcerer, I am having a lot of fun! Paladin felt underwhelming, but maybe I was feeling that way because I played a Dwarf and spent so much time trying to get to my enemies.
I’m wanting to do a dark urge run with an oathbreaker but I want minthara in my party, so I may do a sorlock or barb as the dark urge
Great guide - bard next please! 💪👍
I've been playing since 79, always an amature player, always room to learn...
Havent progressed far into the game but my current solo: The Dark Urge White Dragonborn Vengeance Paladin, holding the Everburn Blade from the Commander. Solid both in RP and gameplay
As someone who has never played paladin. This guide helps though i dont understand to fully
When you like and trust a source so much you immediately click like every time you enter the video. That's Fextralife for me.
Respecialized Wyll to start with vengeance paladin, got 2nd lvl, then got him 5 lvls of warlock, pact of the blade, second attack, demonic vision. It felt not so good to wait so much to unlock an extra attack, even though he still was good, but now, omg, what a machine. He surely is now the Blade of Frontiers. Planning to got him 3rd lvl of paladin to get that Vow of Enmity and after all of that go for 4 lvls of Bard College of Swords to gain a lot extra spellslots, bardic inspiration, useful spells, duelist fighting style and even an ability to deal extra damage with this bardic inspiration, though it will be deep in late game. Just wanted to share this awesome triple multiclass I came up with.
Druid next please ! Loving the videos
I feel warlocks should have class based consequences like paladins do. Wyll literally is punished for breaking his pact
Would love to see Barbarian next 🙌
In fextralife we trust.....Honestly I do not know what I will do without fextralife for information.
Currently running Karlach as a Wildheart Barb/Vengeance Pala. She's my one woman frontline.
Sentinel is also on par with Savage attacker, since you are always near enemy and for sure you have another melee companion up there as well. Whether you are lock on an enemy melee or range they cant escape you and if the Ai attack you near companion you get a free attack.
You can also divine smite the reaction. IMO this us a way better option to pick than ability score improvement.
Try sentinel + polearm master. You just deal damage without pressing any buttons while also blocking enemies in place
are there any good polearms in the P1 only one i came across was from waukeems inn. And that was hardly anything to write home about.
I wish this game had a manual with all the spells for the different classes etc just like the handbooks of BG1 and 2!
baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Spells There's a table and you can type a keyword to see all matches
@@Fextralife I often look at your wiki, thanks for effort. But a real printed manual is someting I still miss.
Yeah I get that :(
I've been playing a dex paladin using the rapier and it's been interesting.
10:12 you mention you can dump dex but just remember that means you have - on initiative rolls. To combat this so far I've been using the dexterity gloves found at the creche, which give me 18 dex despite having no points into the stat. This has allowed me to roll high initiative most of the time and still have a load of strength/everything else
important callout for great weapon master being a very worthwhile pickup if you are going two handed.
Hmmm, oath breaker pali and warlock sounds fun. Lol. Thank you for the great vid.
im looking forward to a eldritch knight build, loved to play this on pathfinder WoTR so i might try this first here on BG3...
My lv7 half orc paladin killed a certain act 2 boss in one crit with 80+ dmg. Feels good.
Worth noting too, half orc crit bonus does not apply to all damage. It’s a base weapon damage roll as a bonus.
i was thinking about going 8/4 on vengeance pala/warlock, doesn't seem that i'll be missing out on a lot and still got my 3 feats to help me out
Just a reminder: you can't use hold person and then hunters mark them with the same character as they both require concentration
Did a 70 damage Crit with my half-orc at lvl 4. Feels good.
thats the big d!ck dmg! Lol
Any weapon thay says "finesse" is good for DEX or STR melee builds, it just uses your best modifier between the two for attack and damage rolls.
Rapiers, daggers, short swords, scimitars, whips, and darts fall in this category in D&D, meaning that if you have weapon proficiency with any of these and higher DEX than STR, you can make them work for either stat.
Rapiers and short swords are actually quite good, even when they're not magic or +1, +2, etc, and they remain releveant throughout an entire playthrough as long as you get your damage stat up to 20, which everyone can do by level 8 (Fighters can do this at level 6).
I like paladin 9/warlock 3 multiclass option so you can dump not only Dexterity, but also Strength since BG3 unlike DnD 5e doesn't have Strength requirement for heavy armor. You get all the juice of the paladin except aura of immunity to frightened condition and you also can use your Charisma for attacks, have a decent ranged option and as well as 2 lvl 2 spell slots for your smites which recharge every short rest. The only thing you sacrifice is 1 feat option which is almost nothing comparing to what you get in return
2 Level in Paladin is great for any Meleeclass, Divine Smite is killer and the AoE heal is big bonusaction and always turns the tide for my frontline. If you get Bonus Attack from a different Martial Artist class I recommend 8 MA + 4 Paladin, other than that just 8 Level in Paladin seems to be the sweet spot if you mainly want a Paladin, Bonus Attack, 2 Feats, Aura. Right now my Paladin is Lv.4 and I am unsure what he will become when Lv.9.
Sorcadin is my favorite Multiclass
What level split for Pally and Sorc 6, 6 7, 5 or 8, 4?
Enjoying these primer videos for the classes just to be more aware how each classes are in a bit more explanation details. One thing I don’t really understand is Throws and Save Mechanics. Just no idea what is being talked about there.
Love your channel glad to see you grow to the level you deserve! I remember when you were on a few thousand subs haha.
I'm getting more convinced for a paladin-warlock multiclass
This game is INSANE.
pls do this for all classes :)
Great Weapon Master, Polearm Mastery and Sentinel are the holy trinity of Paladin feats you SHOULD be taking if you want to maximize your offensive capability. This pairs extremely well with your lv 7 passive - relentless avenger for oath of vengeance paladins, for obvious reasons.
Ability score improvement feats are not worth it for the most part because the aforementioned trio of feats are so powerful, but also there are a number of permanent/temporary ability score improvement potions/items all throughout the game, such as the +1 to strength hag hair, or the certain +2 permanent str potion in act 2.
I love yhis combo but my DM hates it 😂 step within 10ft op attack can't get within 5ft. Next turn attack then step back 5ft repeat 🎉
@@BurnzyakaPookieTWH Yeah it's busted and a lot of fun!
This comment alone made me want to continue with a paladin. If I can make a Battle Brothers spearwall paladin in BG3, I'm sold!
Not sure if this is a bug but don't multiclass into warlock for short rest spell slots, the game won't let you choose which spell slots to use and forces you to use up all your paladin spell slots before using any warlock ones. You might still want to consider warlock for pact of the blade tho.
glad you said this - i was actually about to make a new pally and was planning to multiclass Warlock just for the spell slot's on short rests
As you don't need str for heavy armor I was thinking going 3 lock after 2 paladin then paladin the rest of the way
@@certanmike This is my plan tbh Oathbreaker PLD with 3 Lock (Path of the Blade)
@@certanmike problem with that is if you only go 3 lock you are going to miss out on a feat. Every 4 levels in a single class gives a feat. so 4 lock/8 paladin would be the way to go. 12 levels total in game.
@middleagedgamers7750 then you miss out on level 3 slots for paladin and you still don't get level 3 slots for warlock. It's a tradeoff. If you think feats are better, 8/4 is better. If you think level 3 spells and access to stronger divine smites are better than one asi/feat then 9/3 is better.
Great video! Very detailed actually a bit to detailed, i am totally new to this type of game, and wanna go paladin. But which of the first 3 mix palas Would you recommand for a newbie?
I am currently a lvl4 vengeance Pali, thinking of taking 1 or 2 lvls of Bard after lvl 5, I am missing the talk with animals was thinking perhaps I should pickup a feat for that.
I also went the two handed weapon route. seems like sword and Board may be better later on since you get +2 AC from any shield.
All I can say is BG3 brings me way back to when I actually utilized the SAVE function as a fail safe 😅
