I'm not sorry - Emma Roberts' acting as Jill in Scream 4 toward the end is still my favorite moment of all the films and many other horror movies, she is the best Ghostface reveal hands down. I have a deep love and appreciation for Billy and Stu's reveal but, for me, Jill takes the number one spot. Not only did she absolutely nail the psychotic spiral and determination, I was in absolute shock and awe as to how believable and heartbreaking it truly was to see her motivation and the realization that Sidney was YET AGAIN betrayed by her own family. Scream is iconic and undeniably groundbreaking but I'd be lying if I said I didn't love Scream 4 just as equally myself. I am so excited to Scream 5 I cannot attempt to put it into words. Also Kirby was the best addition to the franchise and I refuse to accept that she died, she deserved a place in the new installment. (Now I see why you told me to wait for your video on Instagram haha)
Totally agree. That reveal of hers got to me too, and I still think about it over a decade later! There was something genuinely heart-wrenching about seeing this sweet and innocent-looking girl turning out to be such a relentlessly selfish and evil young woman. I hope they adress the possible trauma this must've caused Sidney in movie #5. Her family tree is utterly messed up!
For me, Scream is always number one and the sequels are interchangeable but currently it’s probably 1-4-2-3. Also I won’t be able to unsee the Pennywise eyes 😂
One of the few franchises where I truly love each entry! My ranking is probably: 1 (untouchable), 4 (surprisingly clever), 3 (genuinely fun), 2 (still a fantastic follow up)
1.) Scream - Perfect, timeless, iconic 2.) Scream 4 - Close but not rly, love the main ghostface and motive 3.) Scream 2 - Pretty passable sequel, messy cuz of rewrites, still enjoyable 4.) Scream 3 - Honestly pretty bad but so fun, so bad it’s good, love Parker Posey
My personal ranking: 1. - Scream. Mom got me the VHS for xmas in 1997, which started a newfound interest in the entire horror genre. 2. - Scream 4. I got obsessed with this one for a few weeks back in 2011. It's got my favorite killer in the series. 3. - Scream 2. Great first 2/3, but the climax drags a bit. Some of the best scenes are here tho. 4. - Scream 3. Not bad, but a bit too high on camp. Still enjoyable. One of few horror series where I like all instalments.
I really liked Scream 4 way more than I thought I would. I’ll sometimes just need to see the opening again to make a bad day better. Of course nothing is as atmospheric and nostalgic as the first, but I like 4 quite a bit! Thanks for the list, Emma!
Your ranking is pretty common for Scream fans tbh. My ranking is a little more controversial... 1. Scream 2 2. Scream 3. Scream 3 4. Scream 4 (I love every Scream film and consider them all good films though) I know, I know Scream 2 better than Scream? People think I'm crazy but I just feel the film is more consistent than the first. The opening for Scream will forever be iconic and the film a classic but Scream 2 keeps up with it's high octane opening and follows it up with SMGs scene, Gale Weathers chase scene and the infamous police car scene where as Scream never gets quite up there with it's opening scene. I also felt like Scream 2s killer motive was probably the most "logical" of the series, just good old old fashion revenge, where as Billys motive for killing Maureen is logical but the events of Scream isn't but hey we're dealing with unhinged psychotic killers so trying to justify a motive seems a little pointless. Scream 3 just does it for me over Scream 4 purely because of Parker Posey. She's probably one of the best characters in the whole franchise.
i personally love scream 3, for me it was one of the best just for the first 2 thirds of the movie(big fan for horror on movie sets) (I also didnt really like the reveal , pretty meh i agree) but i just want to note for the best things in that movie, I personally ADORE that Sidney is wearing the necklace the boyfriend in Scream 2 gave her, showing that she never forget him :') , if im not mistaken its never adressed in the movie and its for us the fans to watch these details which i really appreciate
As a huge fan of this series And of your page I really appreciate you going into detail with the movies instead of just doing a basic countdown like some others.
Emma! I have never seen the Scream movies before now but your videos inspired me to have a marathon of all of them, ending with Scream 5 at the theater! I loved all of them and Scream 3 ended up being my favorite because it felt like Clue and the mystery was gripping and the stakes were high. Also, Gale Weathers for the win! Her character development was so satisfying!
My ranking is the same as yours, and happily, for many of the same reasons. I'll just add that the original Scream was also filmed in my home town, which made it more exciting for us leading up to its release. Especially when a neighboring town (Santa Rosa) refused to allow Craven to film at their school, earning them a "No thanks to you" credit at the end of the movie. :)
I appreciate the Gail-stanning. She’s somehow both iconic and under- appreciated. Hoping the new film honors Craven’s wishes and keeps the core trio alive.
Same ranking for me! But it’s hard not to love Scream 3, it’s so utterly manic and silly. I like that you point out how brutal Casey’s death is in Scream’s opening sequence. Most people reacting to it for the first time are surprised by how upsetting that is. Matthew Lillard is amazing, I can easily visit lots of the places they shot the film, I remember watching it for the first time (it was night and someone unexpectedly knocked on our door and everyone flew off the furniture like startled cats!), some of my guy friends knew all of Tatum’s lines by heart, I was the same age as the main characters, Scream is just ICONIC.
Even though my ranking is different (1, 4, 2 and last is 3), I loved and agreed with most everything you said because I can tell how much you care for the franchise. I have my ticket for Thursday's opening night show, and can't wait for your video.
what makes Scream movies iconic is the killer is a normal person, the killer could be a friend, brother, sister anyone, it is not a zombie, monsters, or demons, it is just a normal person its happen to be a psychopath hiding his dark side
This was absolutely wonderful. I adore the Scream films and your appreciation for the franchise really shines in this video. Thank you for making it. Your ranking is exactly my own!
Love this video and the fact that you, Emma, are taking Scream as seriously as I am. 😄❤I´m so looking forward seeing Scream on Friday. I rank them 1 - 2 - 4 - 3 and I will never forget the first time I saw Scream.
As always, outstanding video, Emma! Without a doubt, the "Scream" franchise is forever to be one of the best horror franchises that redefined fear. I'm also hyped to see the new movie that will come out on the 14th! 😀👍 EDIT: Here is my personal ranking of the "Scream" franchise: 1. Scream (1996) 2. Scream 3 (2000) 3. Scream (2022) 4. Scream 4 (2011) 5. Scream 2 (1997)
Scream has been my favourite franchise since i was 5 years old! I love it so much. I actually got kicked out of the cinema because i tried to watch Scream 4 under age hahaha And now i can finally watch scream 5 in the theater now that im 23! Its like i grew up with the actors. Scream is my harry potter
I think I’d do 1,4,2,3 and totally got the #justiceforgale vibe on these rewatches, she is mvp of the franchise. You can hate Cotton all you want but I just love Liev Schreiber’s performance and it makes me giggle every time so I can’t be mad at it 😆
I rank them the exact same way. Friend's older brother took us to a second run theatre and Scream was first horror movie I saw in theatres. Randy dying hurt my soul. Took me sometime to get over. Still love all the Screams, but yeah I think getting rid of Randy was unfortunate.
I remember not liking 3 much but I haven't seen it in a very very long time. 4 was awesome, I thought it was great. 2 was my second favourite. 1 is the best.
Now, that was would great that Judy Hicks would be Ghostface as I believe she has a thing for Dewey and doesn't like Gail at all. Anyway, here's my ranking of the Scream films as follows: 4. Scream 3 3. Scream 2 2. Scream 4 1. Scream
I just saw the 5th movie last night so my new order of Scream movies from best to worst would have to be: 1, 4, 5, 2, 3 Scream 5 was almost as good as I would have hoped. Great video btw. And I love Gail at the end of Scream 1 and in 4 and 5.
Great franchise ranking video! My ranking is exactly the same! Scream 1 & 2 are my favs. In 2 though, I just wish Randy had a good fight before his death. It was just too easy and in broad daylight with Randy being a horror fanatic, he would have never backed himself up to a van when on the phone with the killer, just doesn't make sense. Scream 3 & 4 I heard had a lot of interference by the Wienstiens, they were very hands on and controlling cuts and scripts, not giving Wes Craven full creative control. Wes Craven was not happy filming Scream 4 due to the pressure on his back and Wes did not like the finished product. I also heard from the most recent podcast of Colors of the Dark, that Wes Craven was purposely making fun of the Weinstiens in Scream 3 by making the producers being a part of Hollywood eating woman alive and the Wienstiens had no clue, which is kinda bad ass and makes me want to revisit that one again.
OMG YES. Finally a fellow Scream fanatic with the same rankings as me! Except 1 and 2 are so close and I think 2 is my favorite. Just because, in the 90's, I didn't see too many college horror movies.
@@NeonGreenFairyJedi - yeah, it definitely amped things up from the first one! And the opening at the cinema was brilliant! It's right up there with the opening from the original, in my opinion. I watched Scream 3 last night, watching 4 tonight (I couldn't remember much about these two), then going to see Scream 5 tomorrow night! I'll post my ranking of all five on here after I've seen the new one 😉
4:50 Even though Maureen cheated on her husband with Cotton he was still also sleeping with a married woman so it's both their faults, he forces Sidney to agree to go on Diane Sawyer with him to do an interview about the story of him being framed by Billy and Stu for Maureen's murder then proven innocent before he saves her from Mrs Loomis, uses the events of the first 2 films to get his own talk show and even though he had a girlfriend called Christine he flirted with who he thought was a woman who liked his show but turned out to be Roman using the voice changer.
Totally the same ranking although sometimes 4 and 2 alternate depending on my mood. Scream 2 is probably my favorite opening too. So stoked for the 5th.
That's exactly how I would rank them. You keep mentioning Wes Kraven and it reminded me of how his death was so ignored. Would you do a tribute episode? Maybe top 10 movies? Or just recommendations?
Yes, I 100% agree that Cotton Weary was throwing some pretty aggressive red flags at Sidney in that library scene. But do you think at the end, that Cotton’s “looks like you’re in quite the predicament Sidney” thing was genuine? Because I got the impression that he was pretending to be on Mrs. Loomis’ side in order to get her to let her guard down.
You nailed the ranking - could not have said it better. I'm really nervous about the next installment without Wes at the helm, though. Thank goodness the cast is on-board. Hopefully that's a stamp of "quality"?
I love this franchise! I want to write off Scream 3 for the awful Maureen slander but the Gale and Gale Scooby-Doo esque team up makes the whole movie 🤌
1. Scream - 10 out of 10 2. Scream 2 - 9 out of 10 (criminally underrated) 3. Scream (2022) - 8.5 out of 10 4. Scream 3 - 7 out of 10 5. Scream 4 - 7 out of 10 Scream 2’s impeccable world building by establishing the Stab franchise based on Gale’s book is HIGHLY under appreciated. No way any of these sequels that crib off of Stab can be placed over Scream 2. Not mention it’s brilliant opening sequence and perhaps 3 most intense sequences in the ENTIRE FRANCHISE: Randy’s death, the cop car sequence, and Gale’s film archives chase. Also, Sidney’s role in the play Cassandra is also greatly done. Scream 2 is it phenomenal and it demands respect 🤣
Well, there is no surprise that our rankings line up the same. Being both a mystery and horror fan, the Scream franchise has always been that spot where the two genres perfectly meet. I also feel very fortunate that I got to see Scream on opening day. My plans for the day fell apart in the morning, so that afternoon, I just went to see this "new Wes Craven film with Drew Barrymore". **SPOILERS AHEAD** Here's kind of a funny thing to share. When it comes to characters I like in the Scream franchise, they tend to turn to be the killer. Stu was actually a favorite character of mine and I figured he was too much of a "goofball" to be a killer. Mickey was another likable character for me, and he turned out to be a killer. Finally, there was Jill, who I felt sorry for at first, until I realized that her reveal as the killer was coming. I guess that might be a credit to the actors (Matthew Lillard, Timothy Olyphant and Emma Roberts).
Scream is my favorite horror movie franchise because so far I've liked every single installment including a new one. Which I really can't say about any other franchise besides maybe final destination
I'm still to rewatch the third and fourth films, but as it stands at the moment our ranking is exactly the same :) Can't wait to see how the new one will fit into this ranking!
Scream 2 is always my Numero Uno. I saw 2nd Scream in cinema before Scream 1. Freeze teeth after the Scream 2👻. Fastest Slasher Movie. Ghostface was totally wildb*tch...🎯!
Kevin Williamson actually did write Scream as Scary Movie. He wrote two other story treatments for what would become Scream 2, and he also wrote a potential story treatment for Scream 3. So, yes. Scream was originally intended to be a trilogy.
#5. Scream 3 #4. Scream 2 #3. Scream 5 #2. Scream 4 #1. Scream I've only seen Scream 5 twice so far so I can't put it in 2nd. Maybe if my o changes but I doubt it. My opinion hasn't changed yet. Scream 4 has always been my second favorite. Not ashamed to admit it lol💯😂🤷💖❤️
When I saw S3, I thought the twist would be some (preferably the Cox/Arquettes as they had outstayed their welcome) or all the lead characters would die, leaving the cast of Stab 3 to defend themselves. Could it have worked? Probably not. Today, I like it better. Posey Parker is great, the quiet ending is touching.
I loved this. I think I'm gonna do one as well. My reanking is pretty much the same exept that the third and the fourth switch place for me. So basically, the order in which they were released. I wish I was old enough to have seen it in the cinema back when. I only ever saw it on small screen.
With this new movie I'd probably say it's 5. Scream 3 4. Scream 2. 3. Scream 2022. 2 scream 4. And obviously scream OG is the best. Fingers crossed for this new one. I adore hayden panettiere so here's hoping
I absolutely love this video Emma! Great list, we actually have the same ranking! I can't wait for Scream 2022 later this week! I don't trust Jenna Ortega in this one, I'm thinking she maybe involved or I could see it being 3 killers with both Randy's neice and nephew along with their mom (Randy's sister from the 3rd one) but that is just my Scream Fan mind playing detective lol Gonna Be A Scream Baby!!

All that and he manages to learn absolutely nothing
i jus watched them all for the first time for the 5th one, id rank them :
1 - Scream 1
2 - Scream 4
3 - Scream 2
4 - Scream 3
Love this video, I'm a Scream Super Fan, for all 4 movies! And how beautiful is Hayden Panettiere in Scream 4?
Your question about Gale’s hair made me lol
I agree with your ranking completely
Totally the same ranking although sometimes 4 and 2 alternate depending on my mood. Scream 2 is probably my favorite opening too. So stoked for the 5th.
This is without a doubt one of the coziest and coolest movie themed channel ever:)
#stopCottonhate !
That's exactly how I would rank them. You keep mentioning Wes Kraven and it reminded me of how his death was so ignored. Would you do a tribute episode? Maybe top 10 movies? Or just recommendations?
Can’t wait to watch! ♥️
I'm so behind. Stupid sickness. 😭 This was a fun watch. 💙
I mean if you watch onto 3… he’s a jerk ready to cheat on his gf. I think either way you slice it he’s a dirtbag 😂
11:27 I bet people never thought they'd see a film where Frozen's Anna killed Rogue.
You nailed the ranking - could not have said it better. I'm really nervous about the next installment without Wes at the helm, though. Thank goodness the cast is on-board. Hopefully that's a stamp of "quality"?
8:43 you can even say he didn't have enough scream time 😁
I love this franchise! I want to write off Scream 3 for the awful Maureen slander but the Gale and Gale Scooby-Doo esque team up makes the whole movie 🤌
1. Scream - 10 out of 10
2. Scream 2 - 9 out of 10 (criminally underrated)
3. Scream (2022) - 8.5 out of 10
4. Scream 3 - 7 out of 10
5. Scream 4 - 7 out of 10
Scream 2’s impeccable world building by establishing the Stab franchise based on Gale’s book is HIGHLY under appreciated.
**SPOILERS AHEAD**
Here's kind of a funny thing to share.
You forgot to mention Rebecca Gayheart when mentioning the huge 90’s cast (being in Urban Legend and Jawbreaker, both great 90’s films)
The fact that you’re so pro-Gale Weathers is v endearing because I am right there with you
Wes Craven's New Nightmare introduced the idea of being in a horror movie while aware of it first. Have you seen it?
2 is actually my favorite, other than that my ranking would be the same.
This is my exact ranking but I love em all
THE LONG NIGHT (2022) Official Trailer | Scout Taylor-Compton .......this looks good !!
Gale weathers ruthless reporter to ruthless reporter. Character arc. Lol
Kevin Williamson actually did write Scream as Scary Movie. He wrote two other story treatments for what would become Scream 2, and he also wrote a potential story treatment for Scream 3. So, yes. Scream was originally intended to be a trilogy.
Spooky vid = Me HAPPY! 😊
Sidney Prescott is and will always be THE best final girl. So kick-ass
I loved this. I think I'm gonna do one as well. My reanking is pretty much the same exept that the third and the fourth switch place for me. So basically, the order in which they were released. I wish I was old enough to have seen it in the cinema back when. I only ever saw it on small screen.
I love scream can’t wait to See it after my heart procedure
Yes
Thank you so much!
