Notes on this video:
- Sorry! REC is Spanish not Italian! Sorry my mistake I should know this, I’ve spoken about it several times on my channel being Spanish, it was honestly just a slip up.
-I was meant to talk about the 2004 Grudge, but totally spaced and spoke about the 2020 one which is why I changed the cover in the video halfway through, I didn't realise until the edit, so I edited the other poster over the top . I know the 2020 one is considered a half remake half sequel but honestly, who can tell with the final product!?
- Also I know some of these are remakes have ties to the originals which means they can be seen as reboots, some even called soft requels… but I wanted an array of films to show different thoughts I had. I’m aware that some of these can be considered more than one type of 'RE' film 😜. The video is just in fun, it’s more about remaking for different audiences and generations, don’t take it too seriously. Thank you for letting me scream my nonsense into the void.

2004 movie grudge is the best in my opinion 👍
21:28 Rec is Spanish not Italian. =P
I was going to say, I thought the Sarah Michelle Gellar Grudge remake was really good.
Was waiting the entire video for ‘04 Grudge 😂😭
I don't think you need to be so worried about explaining yourself. Your opinion is your opinion. What app/program are you using for the tier list?
House of Wax is so underrated love seeing it getting love here. The Fly is absolutely classic. I think I agree with this whole list. LOOVE TCM (w/ Biel), it might be the only one I move up one tier, and move Hills down one.
This is the remake with Paris Hilton? I was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed it. I watched it three times so far.
I can’t believe so many people hate house of wax. I’ve rewatched so many times. It’s one of my favorites!
The Crazies doesn't get enough love or recognition. Even when it came out during the pre-Platinum Dunes remake renaissance it was overshadowed by Dawn of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes and The Last House on the Left. Remakes should either do it differently or do it better and The Crazies does it so much better than the sort of obscure and not great original.
The pitchfork scene for me personally is one of the most effective and tense horror scenes in the last 20 years.
Agreed! The Crazies was a solid remake, and pushed the tension.
It's one of my favourite films! The recent movie Brightburn felt weirdly similar to me
Agreed, Crazies is great (although making them obviously infected in the remake makes them look sort of like zombies, which is why in the original they looked completely normal until their actions revealed they were infected and this is what made it more frightening (because you didn't know who was infected just by looking at them).
ahh yes nothing quite like watching 'the hills have eyes' as a teen in the 00s and saying 'thats your boyfriend' to your friend every time one of the villains comes on screen
Yikesss
@@spookyastronauts 2005 was a weird time!
I 100% agree with you on Evil Dead. I had lost all faith in horror till I sat in theater and watched it. I seen the original when I was very young and I liked it as well but the remake made its own mark for sure. It is definitely one of my favorites.
I proudly tell everyone that the evil dead remake is my favorite horror movie of all time ❤️🖤 its so well done
Speak your truth! 🤘🏿
Going cinema tomorrow for the newer remake of it lol
Hope it's as good as that 2013 version ✌️
@@daz97 What did you think? Personally i thought it was a good movie, but definitely a step down from the 2013 film.
@@Ericboy114558
Yeah, I have the same opinion of it
It's a very good movie, but when I compare all the Evil Dead movies, this one is my least favourite
But that doesn't make it a bad film... This was a very good effort 👍
Something I picked up on the first viewing is that I think this movie had the least likable characters out of all the other films
Like, the book reader had no redemption or growth... I still didn't like that kid at the end
Eric in 2013, he wasn't so 1 dimensional
But I liked the effects, I liked how the deadites moved in the 2023 version more like the originals... They floated lol
So there were a few things I liked a lot from the new one more than the 2013 version, but that's more nostalgia than quality related imo
I have brought the Blu-ray lol
It's a shame Jane Levi refused to carry on with the 2013 version!..
Because imo it's one of the best horrors made in? Decades probably ✌️👊
@@daz97 Man i'd love a sequel featuring Jane Levi, such a cool character!
My favorite remake is The Crazies. It did what a remake should do and that's vastly improve a bad original. worst remake? it's a tie for me. martyrs and let the right one in. both so bad.
Evil Dead is in fact one of the best horror remakes of all time, it's just true. Excellent placement!
It's not a remake
I was born in ‘90 as well, so I’m totally with you on those remakes that were made in the 2000’s era. And that scene from the hills have eyes….i’ve only seen that movie once and i’ll never forget it
It has that effect lol
Same for me
Gore Verbinski movies are just so stunningly beautiful, that probably adds something to "The Ring" too.
My personal top on your list is Suspiria. I love weird movies like that and that climax was very Hereditaryesque:)
So happy to see Hills have Eyes and Suspiria getting S-ranks. One personal favorite I couldn't find on your list is Sorority Row - the remake of The House on Sorority Row, which took the original and turned it into a black comedy. Cheesy beyond measure, but so much fun.
I don’t know if I’ve seen it! I think I’ll have to do a back to back watching for the full effect
Sorority Row isn't talked about enough, that movie is so fun
The Evil Dead (1981) is one of my all time favorite film and I am so sick and tired of remakes BUT this Remake is SO GOOD - I was very impressed. One of the best horror remakes
It's not a remake
I would definitely agree with Evil Dead, The Ring and IT being top tier!
I totally agree with you on the IT remake. I watched the original mini series as an adult with my daughters and we just laughed because it was so corny. A classic but corny. 😂
I'm only now realizing much I love remakes, with Evil Dead (2013), The Amityville Horror (2005), House Of Wax (2005), and Black Christmas (2006) being among my top 20 favorite movies. Although I agree with your ranking, my list would've looked very similar to this.
I loved Blair Witch 2016. I thought it was a great sequel. Not nearly as creepy as the original but freaked me out in its own way.
Very interesting list. And I completely agree with you about Evil Dead. I love this film! Jane Levy is amazing in it.
Am glad you included one of my all time favorite remake and favorite horror film of all times Evil Dead 2013 men I love that movie
Every Halloween, Paris Hilton posts her death scene from House of Wax. Iconic.
Mostly solid remakes here. My two favourite are The Thing and The Fly. Great list, Emma👍
You're showing your age my man lol. They're definitely in my top 5 nonetheless
@@DouljaOfcolony yup 😂
Great video Emma. One thing I thought about is how there is a very long tradition of remakes going back to Frankenstein and Dracula. In fact both classic 30s versions of those films are already remakes. And of course they are also adaptions of novels and plays. Which suggest an idea for you, maybe a tier list of best adaptations from other sources? Thanks again.
You have to respect Zombie for doing his best to make a remake original.
Ye micheal was scary in that movie. Had really high body count.
You are awesome, thank you for this list! I very much enjoyed listening to it today and agreed with majority of your takes.
The evil dead remake was one of the first horror movies I ever saw (I was 13) and I loved it so much. Also IT 2017 was the first horror movie I saw in theaters and I cried multiple times because as someone with a stutter, seeing the lead have a stutter and get it right was so cathartic.
What about Fright Night? I loved the remake written by Marti Noxon.
I'm surprised, this might be the first tier list video I have completely agreed with from start to finish. I was nervous about Jacob's Ladder since I haven't seen your video on it, and I despised that remake. Then it went right in to D tier, and I felt instantly better. Thank you for validating my thoughts
My favorites are definitely Evil Dead (one of my favorite movies of all time), Rob Zombie’s Halloween, The Hills Have Eyes, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Dawn of the Dead.
Also, I like all of these better than the original except for Dawn of the Dead cuz I haven’t seen Romero’s and also Texas Chainsaw cuz the og is one of my favorite movies
I didn't quite agree with them all, but I still appreciate the thought put into your rankings. Great vid, as always!
I've watched most of em. Evil dead is my fav among these. It gave me creepy vibes when i seen it for the first time. Also loved IT to. Rn reading the book. It's really good.
Excellent tier list! Other great remakes S/A: Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978 (still scary) and The Blob 1988 (still gross) - like The Fly, it's great to see remakes of classic sci fi/horror films that lean into the horror, and have (more) modern special effects. Mid-range B/C: War of the Worlds 2005, The Wolfman 2010, Fright Night 2011, Candyman 2021. Terrible D: The Omen 2006 (boring), The Turning 2020 (bad overall but especially the ending - can I give it an F?).
i agree invasion of bodysnatchers has more than one remake one from 90's is good to
The 70s Invasion of the Bodysnatchers is amazing! A classic.
Candyman 2021 goes into D tier for me. So boring.
@@mariahslittlelamb8049 My boyfriend agrees with you, lol. I liked its quiet mood, but he thought it was boring.
@@katefaber I did not like how they rewrote the lore. The story was disappointing.
There has been a ton of hate for sequels/remakes/reboots and stuff recently, especially on Twitter, and I don’t really understand why. Like they say the only things we get now are reboots from franchises that won’t die but then they don’t go watch the original horror like X and Umma. Also, they’re the same people who go and call the 80s the golden age for horror despite the fact that it was packed full of sequels and dominated by franchises like Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. I just really get annoyed when people act like remakes and sequels are a new thing. I mean just look at the Universal Monsters or the Godzilla and King Kong movies. They pretty much popularized and formed the basis for the horror genre back in the 20s and 30s because they were such a huge franchises. The horror genre would not be what it is without franchises.
I love all the good stuff you said about The Hills Have Eyes, The Ring, and Evil Dead. Three perfect horror films imo. Overall, great tiers, couldn't have made a better list.
This was such a wonderful discussion on remakes and what does and doesn't work. As someone who is the same age, I share a lot of the same opinions. Although I rank some higher (13 Ghosts, The Wicker Man lol), and some lower. The fact that so many people are bringing up other movies might be an indicator that we want a part 2. Maybe with a guest so you can compare lists. Just throwing out an idea. Keep up the great work!
I was surprised to see that I largely agreed with your ratings, this must have been fun to put together!
Very fun video! Great job, as always!
I loved this video! It was really fun and it was interesting to see how different remakes did compared to others. Unpopular opinion, but I actually really look forward to remakes (don’t like all of them but give them all a fair chance) because I think there is always an opportunity to update things and redo it for the current generation
Remakes are one of my favorite types of horror movies; I just love seeing what someone else brings to the table, even if it ends up being worse. Quarantine is one of my favorites, Jennifer Carpenter deserve more recognition I’m horror for sure!
my favourite horror remakes are Evil Dead (2013), The Thing (1982), Suspiria (2018) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
Amazing video! Very happy you put Suspiria on top! I also loved the remake of Ils (2006) which is The Strangers (2008). Same story but the people in Ils are being tormented by kids instead of adults which is quite disturbing. Keep up the good work! :)
Except for the "Shutter" - Remake (I'd put it on "B") I actually totally agree with this list!! I was especially happy about Suspiria, because in my opinion this movie is ABSOLUTELY underrated and a true piece of art in its own right, from Thom Yorke's gripping soundtrack, the overall great cast to the wonderful photography - I've even learned to appreciate the "red scene" 😉 - it takes the basics of the also outstanding original but turns it into something new, with layers upon layers to unfold and theorize over....just great!!! Just as this video, thank you!!!👍🏻✊🏻💞😉
Thanks as always for your list, Emma. Given our generational age difference, it is always heartwarming for me to find some horror films that we can agree on. For the most part, I agree with most of your ranking choices. I did want to add a couple of notes that focus on the more positive observations:
1. THE RING - I agree totally. The original and remake are equally fantastic.
2. EVIL DEAD - I never thought I would like this film as much as I did, especially with no Ash Williams. However, the remake managed to do the one thing that makes any horror film work for me, it made me care about the lead characters.
3. THE THING - You analysis was spot on. The original is a classic (my dad's favorite horror film), but John Carpenter made the best remake at the best time.
4. 13 GHOSTS - The original is just a goofy ghost film with a gimmick and that's exactly what the remake is, a bigger budget goofy ghost film. Essentially, the remake nailed it.
5. HALLOWEEN - Nowhere near as good as the original, but I always appreciate Rob Zombie's style. Rob is only a couple of years older than me, so I think we both grew up watching similar stuff on TV and in the movies.
Some great thoughts here Emma, my personal favourites on this list are Evil Dead, The Ring and the Thing
I’ll never forget seeing dawn of the dead with my parents when it came out. Mostly because of how awkward the sex scene was lmao. Everytime I watch it now I can’t help but laugh.
Emma as usual I agree with you in your choices. My fav remakes are: IT, Evil Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, and The Ring. The ranking itself is very accurate, you gave us main reasons why you put a particular remake in an specific category. Please, I want more videos like this one.
Spookatronauts horror experting 10/10 thank you! How lucky to find this channel amirite.
Congrats on 100K Emma
For future consideration: The Eye, Dark Water, Pulse, The Last House on the Left, I Spit on Your Grave, The House on Haunted Hill, Psycho, The Invisible Man, Child's Play, The Omen, Candyman.
Yay to Last House!! If she talks about Psycho remake she has to invite Chelsea from Dead Meat lol
I would love to see a part two of this idea!
evil dead remake as S tier is the only answer. great vid!
I definitely gotta watch Maniac now. I haven't seen shutter yet either and might give it a shot because of how high it was on your list. I really enjoyed your remake list here and think it was pretty spot on for the movies I've seen anyway.
@Steven Bustamante Wow, thats serious stuff for an 11 year old kid. Did Maniac original scare the hell out ya? I thought watching child's play as a young kid was scary.
Woah!! I would've done the tier list exactly like this 😅 AWESOME 🙌🏻
Glad you mentioned Maniac, that was one of the first things I thought of!
thanks for this
(I'm late to the party)
i almost cried when u rated Suspiria remake as top tier, so happy!!!
even though not ur favourite movie, u appreciated it for what it was.
love your thoughts on Hill Have Eyes; Wicker Man; Halloween; Texas Chainsaw; House of Wax.
(little sad about Rabid, i loved remake)
I love this list, the way you gave your feelings on each movie why you rated it as such was refreshing. Bonus when you diplomaticly pointed out not everyone will agree but this is your list not theirs.
As a uruguayan myself, i'm proud that Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead is so loved in the horror community 🥰
Great video, as always, Emma!
Uruguasha
@@tlovehater Exacto jajaa
I love Sarah's tierlists, glad to see my other favourite horror creator making tierlists!
I’ve seen several people do them :) always fun to watch, glad you enjoy them!
The way you feel about the Amityville remake is the way I feel about the Carrie remake, because I was getting into horror when it came out, it was one of the first horror movies I ever saw in theaters and I loved it, and I know it has flaws, and it’s not as good as the original, but it does hold a special place in my heart. Plus I do love Chloë. It’s a comfort rewatch for me.
Love this tier video, and I agree with your S tier completely. Just two notes, where I found accidental mistakes. 1.) The 1982 original "Poltergeist" did not include CGI, because there was no CGI in existence. The effects were practical, including the clown attack and the tree attack. 2.) "Funny Games" is not Japanese, but Austrian, with the dialogue in Austrian German. That's all, just a couple minor things. Have a lovely week :) .
A Tale of Two Sisters. An excellent and creepy movie that did not translate over in the American version- The Uninvited. Loved your video. As always.
Everyone forgets about The Hitcher . The original had Rutger Haur . The remake reversed the couples situation. Also in the 80s , they weren't " into" practical effects. It was all they had! This was great to watch
Other good remakes all with actress Jaime King in the lead role: My Bloody Valentine 3D (2009), Mother's Day (2010), Silent Night (2012)
Evil Dead in S is so based. I’m so glad I found your channel, couldn’t agree more
Shit and suspiria as well! The two best remakes
Thank you and hello!
Don’t tell anyone but I had no idea 13 Ghosts was a remake! 😅. Can’t wait to watch the original now.
Great video!!! Love these tier lists. Really appreciate you making this rather long by UA-cam standards.
The main film that came to mind when I think of quality remakes is The Blob. Really love that film. S tier for me. Last House on the Left is also very good. I don’t like the original so the remake tops it easily.
never heard about Jacob's Ladder remake before! and - by the sound of it - nothing to regret lol. Thanks for that ranking - Amativille would go higher on my list but other than that I am almost spot on with your list.
Great list 👍 Great points made.
I always feel weird when people call IT (2017) a remake cause it pulls so much more from the source material than it does from the miniseries. But nitpick aside, it is sooooo much better than the miniseries. It’s not even a comparison.
Good point! There’s always a question what’s a remake and what’s a readaption,
Honestly im suprised that I agreed with you on almost every film. I personally would have put Texas Chainsaw in S cause its one of my top horror films, and maybe moved Blair Witch up, just because I actually found it quite horrifying in theatres! Also I would love to know where you would have put the Friday the 13th Remake, people either love it or hate it
Oh wow!!! I enjoyed this video sooo much!! Thank you for this one! I have to agree with every one of your Top tier S group!! Lol♥️♥️ Gave a Spooky day…
I meant have a spooky day🤦🏻♀️
I'm also not a fan of the whole Halloween series, since I'm just not that much into slashers, and I really liked Rob Zombie's interpretation as well ^^; And I absolutely agree on IT. I didn't even like the original when I was a teen but I like the new movies very much. The cast is just ♥
I love listening to you talk about movies and being so beautiful doesn't hurt
I agree with you about Evil Dead. That one blew me away. It’s so intense and gory. Blair Witch definitely had some flaws, but I enjoyed it. The tunnel scene was so intense.
I love the Evil Dead remake! I agree with a lot of your pics but not all of them. I always love your videos! I love when people can just share their opinion about movies we all love without people getting butt hurt
Great discussion! It really shows how polarizing the quality of remakes can be. Have you seen The Blob remake? It's a personal favorite.
Yes I have! It’s not bad at all
Love that remake! More than the original honestly!
Wow this was great. In agreement with pretty much every one of your placements. I'd move Shutter from A to C and even though the Wrong Turn remake wasn't great, I'd put it in C for trying something new. It was somewhat interesting.

I know I’m late to the party but this is a pretty solid tier list. I don’t see a major problem with any of your choices, you’re at least in the ballpark with every movie on here. That’s my opinion, of course, but I’d be surprised if very many people disagreed with you. But then again, this is the internet.
Great video! The Fly 1986 is one of my all time faves. I think the Nic Cage Wicker Man is infinitely entertaining, but yes it’s terrible.
Great video. I agree on most but I disagree in 13 ghosts. I just rewatched it a month or so ago for the first time in like a decade and I loved it haha
I absolutely LOVE Dawn of the Dead, is one of my favorite movies, the opening is fantastic OMG.
I agree with every ranking! Evil Dead is my absolute favorite remake and it’s my go to horror movie to put on for friends who have never seen it and who want to be scared.
Good tier list, my favorite remakes have to be The Thing and The Fly. But a good one that you missed is the remake of The Blob with Kevin Dillon from 1988.
I would say that this is a great list with some of the best remakes at the top like Evil Dead, Dawn of the Dead, House of Wax (so underrated), The Ring, etc. Kinda wish you included more remakes tho, would love to know your thoughts on Friday the 13th, the 2006 Black Christmas remake, etc.
Anyways, great content as usual
I would of love to see where she put friday the 13th too. If I had to guess I'll say she'll give it a c
There are so many remakes out there, she could certainly make a sequel to this video.
@@Kimnicpat I was thinking the same @spookyastronauts
Will have to check out the evil dead remake, sounds cool
Asap. You won't be disappointed
This list has made me realize that I still have a lot of remakes to watch lol. As it stands, Evil Dead and The Thing are the only ones to surpass the originals in my eyes
Great video. You could quite easily do a part 2 😀. Top tier for me - Evil Dead - Hills Have Eyes - My Bloody Valentine .
So happy that you loved Evil Dead. It’s one of my favorite horror movies.
I honestly agree with you about Poltergeist 2015. Infact the day this came out was the same day I watched the original which I watched after watching the remake. Hadn't watched the 2015 film in an impressive six years and within that six years have only seen it twice: the first time in theaters and the second time on DVD.
Agree with your whole S row! ❤️ if you do a part 2 I suggest “dark water”
i agree with everything you said and how you ranked them except i did like the red scene, which honestly surprised me.
i appreciate most remakes/prequels because they get me into the originals a lot of the times. i never had a desire to watch the original texas chainsaw until i watched the 00’s movies. some i didn’t even know about like candyman. i didn’t know there was an original until the new one just came out. some can be trash but i appreciate/like them most of the time.
Vincent Price's House of Wax was actually a remake of the 1930's Mystery of the Wax Museum. The earlier film was an extra on the DVD release of Price's House of Wax in the UK and is worth a watch.
I agree with The Ring, but I think the worst remake is probably Psycho. Just, why?
weirdest part about the psycho remake is they even casted the bead of sweat guy from total recall to do alfred's cameo.
I really love horror movie youtubers that are around my age, we both love early 2000's horror movies
I love this!
Just found your channel, super fun watch gg’s
I quite liked the Adam Winged Blair Witch too. The sound design is stunning. I wouldn't call it a remake though, because it so directly follows the original. Maybe a requel? I always saw it as a straight sequel. Either way I might rate it slightly higher in the tier but apart from that I think we're pretty much on par.
I feel very ambivalent; somewhere between “remakes are great, actually” when they hit and “are remakes really necessary” when they miss. Ultimately, I would say there is a place for them, if only to provide the opportunity for the good ones to be made AND to bring older well loved franchises back in the general consciousness. I thought IT (2017) was a very needed remake and I’m so thankful it was made. I’m on the fence about The Crow personally, but since Bill Skarsgard did so well with Pennywise, I’m willing to give him a chance at Eric Draven. 🤷♀️
“I wanna forgive you, & I wanna forget you” LMAOOOO okay Lauren😂👏🏽👏🏽
The poster art of Shutter used to scare me when I was a kid to bad I don't like the movie though the same thing happened with one missed call
I saw Poltergeist remake and I can't even remember any of it.
It isn't the worst movie on this list but it's most definitely the most forgettable. Even when compared to the grudge 2020, at least I remember how bad it was lol
