I'm not sure how anyone got a sequel to the Shining to work, but he legitimately did it. I was delighted with how it ended. I saw this at the theater and there was an amazing snowstorm when we left, which everyone loved because we all did our best frozen Jack Nicholson impersonation.

I really liked Doctor Sleep - so much that I felt it deserved another hour of runtime (or should have been two movies or a miniseries) so the third act in the Overlook didn't feel so rushed. I felt that led to my one disappointment in the film: it feels like they ran out of time and that led to that POV shot of all the Overlook ghosts reaching at the camera like it's the Thriller video. I know Flanagan is a huge Shining/Kubrick fanboy but that goofy shot _really_ didn't feel like it should have been in the movie and might have been a shortcut for a longer sequence of Danny's eventual outcome.

I know a lot of people in the horror community aren’t a fan of the haunting of Bly manor but I think it was amazing, yes there was less horror elements but the story was so emotive and I loved the characters in it, the story was so touching.

What people don’t really get about it is that Bly manor is more of a gothic horror, and gothic horror stories are usually less about the fear of danger than the fear of sadness.
Hill house was more like standard horror, while Bly was gothic horror.
Another example of a great gothic horror story is Crimson Peak, which like Bly Manor, was less a scary story than it was a dark romance and tragedy

    • @snigdhaghosh5865

the horror backstory was the strength of Bly manor .. rest of the love and family angel didn't add to the necessary emotion. I was surprised that I rooted for the ghost more than the love story angle.

Emma, Congratulations on getting Mike to be a part of the show. He’s a guy with an eye for talent so obviously he loves your reviews. He is absolutely my favorite horror director and hauntings are my favorite kind of horror movies. I’ve seen all of his movies and Netflix projects so I was sad to hear that Hill House was his most difficult project. It is the best ghost story have ever seen . I loved every second of it. I can’t wait to see his next project. Thanks Emma for a terrific show.

    • @ravenproductions5609
      @ravenproductions5609 3 роки тому +3

@@seancoetzee5399 interesting idea. I am not sure if I would honestly want to see that or not cuz I think it’s better if we aren’t shown the origin of the Blair witch and it is more ambiguous but who knows, could be good. Still, I prefer more subtle, Ambiguous storytelling with the Blair witch universe. The less we know about what really happened/is happening the better in my opinion, but still a very interesting idea.

The fact he doesn't believe in ghosts, but makes them scary as HELL!!! AH-MAZING! Emma what an amazing opportunity you got to interview one of your favorite directors! Huge congrats.
Also, the way he symbolizes ghosts as the hauntings of our experiences in life rather than being real. Flawless. The use of how we are haunted and we manifest our demons and ghost. Gerald's Game literally is the most intense therapy session of a movie, yet so beautifully created to show a woman's journey through her trauma! Soooo awesome. Keep up with the content dear friend

Mike's Absentia was really inspirational, as when I found out he shot it with the same model camera I had, I realized there was really no excuse not to make a film of my own. If he's reading these comments, thanks for the push. I find it interesting that he also doesn't believe in ghosts, as I don't either, but have a particular affinity for haunted house stories. I find it hard to choose between Doctor Sleep and Gerald's Game, but one of those has to be my favorite. Also, I've never noticed the mirror in Hush...surely it's in that house somewhere.

This video made my heart happy. I love Mike’s work and every movie has actually affected me to the point of tears. Past trauma and personal demons that make up the hauntings is so beautiful in a way. Emma, the thought and effort you put into this video was awesome!

This was so amazing Emma, and fantastic for getting Mike on board! It was really interesting to hear his takes on the individual films, and the challenges he went through making them.
I think my favourite thing he's put out has to be The Haunting of Hill House, it absolutely broke me. And Hush comes in second because I've seen it multiple times and just adore the concept!
I'm still to see Oculus, Before I Wake, Absentia, and The Haunting of Bly Manor, so I need to get on that! I also had no idea that Before I Wake was a Flanagan film, I'm kicking myself for constantly scrolling past it on Netflix now!

This was just fantastic and one of my favorite videos of yours. Mike Flanagan's one of my favorite horror directors in recent years, with Doctor Sleep being my personal favorite of his. Incredible that he was also part of this video and we got to hear some tidbits from him regarding some of his films. Excellent stuff!

Wow, it's so cool that you got Mike to do this with you! He is one of my favorite horror directors currently working. I personally would've put Doctor Sleep higher on my ranking, but I like your ranking a lot and thought it was really cool that you put Before I Wake so high! I've yet to see it myself because I can't find it anywhere :/ definitely on my to watch list though!

I've been waiting for this ever since you teased it and I was so not disappointed! I never guessed you'd actually gave him on there to give little insights that was so cool! He's a director I love and his themes resonate so well! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! I've been hooked on him since Oculus!
On a totally different note (if you're feeling better) I personally have been wondering your thoughts on Till Death if you've happened to watch it yet?
