Randy should've been the killer in Scream 2. I feel like that was a huge missed opportunity. It could've turned out he was helping them in part 1, but when he got betrayed the secret died with the original 2 killers. True but i still feel the 4th is the most forgettable one, i love the 1st and the 3rd, what i didn't know was the killer in Scream 3, Roman, was the overarching antagonist of the movie. He corrupted Billy Loomis into starting a killing spree along with his friend, Stu Macher. Just take those two seconds out and the plothole is gone. It really makes no sense that they'd put that in there and yet still use him as the killer.
TheHearseMn That's what I assumed when I watched it. It's amazing how many people can't find a pulse when they are checking for one (hence why untrained people are told to check for breathing instead of a pulse). So I can forgive that one, although I think I hated the explosion kill even more than James did. Loved the Warburton (spelling?) cameo though.
To be honest... I like all the Scream movies. Even Scream 3. Sure, I think it's stupid and by far the weakest, but still not terrible. And I think Scream 2 and 4 are some of the greatest sequels to a film ever, and that the original Scream is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Plus, it's my favourite horror movie of all time
Legit went to the grocery store as it was closing at midnight last night. I definitely got some looks from the employees that they wanted to ghostface me, but I made it out with 3 minutes to spare before closing.
Finally! Scream 4 is getting the recognition it deserves. It worked so well for the time period it was set in and the meta sub plots were entertaining.
Hey, it's that one dude with the hair! How are you James? I haven't really said anything in the comments since before you had 10,000 subs and just wanted to congratulate you for almost hitting 500k. Keep doing what you are doing but don't be afraid to try to do some new stuff. In the worst case scenario, you aren't out anything because you are still doing your normal uploads and best case scenario you discover something new you can do on some Mondays. Anyway, I hope you continue to grow because you deserve it!
Yeah, Billy and Stu are definitely the best killers. I also feel they along with Jill and MAYBE Mrs. Loomis are the ones who actually still felt scary after being unmasked. Roman was just whiny, Mickey was dull, save for his blame the movies speech but that wasn't scary, and Charlie was just a "Nice Guy" who totally should have seen Jill killing him coming. Mrs. Loomis I'm on the fence with, Laurie Metcalf definitely pulled off the crazy, and she might be an even smarter killer then Billy, but when she's being defeated by foam boulders he's definitely losing some of her scare factor. Jill I found freaking chilling. Especially when it really felt like she'd won. She was probably the most heartless of the killers, clearly feeling nothing for anyone, Billy, Roman and Mrs Loomis were motivated by revenge, Charlie was motivated by having no spine, Stu was just crazy and having fun, But Jill was empty, pretty chilling. But of course the best has to go to Billy and Stu as a pair. the reveal was handled perfectly, their taunting of Sydney in the kitchen made them feel really dangerous, with the stabbing sequence showing just how unhinged they were. and the final chase around the house was a really tense game of cat and mouse.
Long ad they treat Sidney w respect vs how they do most franchises lately aka piss on the OG fans I'm fine w it. Plus fact neve had always said nope not without wes and she was the very last to sign on and a couple meetings and reading the script. I have hope esp after seeing the trailer just released. Because articles like it gonna be good because ready or not and I'm like that film was weak tho...i expect 1 of the 3 to die obv and the torch to be handed over. I HOPE they can tie up the whole Prescott/Loomis story tho by end. So new stories be untied to Sidney. Unless they..omg..which be fine if she the second to last kill and there is weight to it...won't like kt but can accept it..tho tbh I hope of 1 of the 3 ots Gail because unexpected vs Dewey. Dewey always been brutally stabbed and like omg he did survive. Gail always gets cornered and last minute gets away untouched. Only exception to both rules is 4. But I'm like gtfo of here w that. Tho I get Dewey too because least deleveloped over entire series
I think next month may give us another exception... But really it makes sense. The movies which are the most likely to get sequels are the good ones, or the ones which stand out for some reason. For the ones that stand out by the second movie the original idea has worn off for the audience and won't deliver like the first time. For the good ones there are many reasons why the sequel only has a very small chance of being better. I started to type them out but this comment was gonna read like a thesis.
Just watched them all again for the first time in about 8 years and I feel you underrated the second one. 1. Scream 2. Scream 2 3. Scream 4 4. Scream 3
I enjoyed the original Scream a lot, and I totally would've put it as number one of the series. But when you jokingly put it at the bottom, I was about to go all out on you, James...
Fun fact: Neve Campbell was one of the original ballerinas in the original Toronto production of The Phantom of the Opera in 1989 :)! I thought it was so cool when I found this out since I absolutely love Phantom of the Opera and I love scream so it’s neat to see those worlds combine
For those who don't know, Scream 4 was released in 2011, 15 years after Scream 1. Early this year, Blumhouse Productions is interested in reviving the film series and that studio Jason Blum was working on making the rest of the second trilogy.
I watched Practical Folks Drunk Disney where they're watching Lion King 2: Simba's Pride earlier today and Chelsea was wearing the same shirt. Had I not watched it I wouldn't have caught it.
Ya know, as much as the cafeteria scene felt both unlikely to happen and uncomfortable to watch, I think I like that Scream 2 includes it; purely for the fact that without it, I think I would have kinda forgotten about/ not cared as much about Derek. It was goofy and weird for them to put in but it did strangely endear me to the guy.
I don't honesty know what happened to the franchise, where the T.V. series is concerned. MTV gave us 2 seasons, plus a Halloween special, and now they've gone a long hiatus. But Season 3 does not look good. I heard they even want to replace the first two seasons actors for the third season.
You know, I JUST got the Creed joke. I had never seen The Office when this video came out! Aaaaahhhh..... Rewatches are fun. Edit: Holy crap, that was fast!!!
Pertaining to Scream 4, being from the Ann Arbor area it definitely felt weird to see locations I grew up around used as Woodsboro, but it felt off for other reasons too. Maybe it was due to the fact Scream 3 took place in Hollywood and it felt weird to return to Woodsboro? Im not sure, but I would be interested in hearing more from you on the topic if possible. Scream is my favorite "scary movie" franchise and I couldn't' agree with your rankings any more. I found your channel recently and you have quickly turned into one of my favorite creators on the site. Just wanted to say keep it up and Go Blue! Also Randy is the best character in the franchise without a doubt. I was so happy they worked a way for him into the plot of Scream 3. And the gay people don't die in modern horror movies was just absolutely out of left field and probably the most bizarre thing about the franchise next to the god-like voice changer.
Bryan yeah I had no idea what they were trying to say with the gay thing. Were they trying to say there are never any gay characters in horror movies so to survive you’d have to be gay? But still....
Austin Cantley Yep. Came out in 1999/2000-ish after he had Jack come out on Dawson's Creek which he was the showrunner of before leaving at the end of Season 2 at which point the show as taken over by Greg Berlanti better know for Arrowverse series of shows. (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightening)
I've loved the scream series since they first came out and if you actually pay attention Stu is the most craziest killer out of the rest. All of them had a true and serious motive for killing but Stu jokes say " peer pressure I'm far too sensitive" he never gives a real reason. So I feel he just wanted to kill people.
Hey man. Great video as always. You have got to do a rank video review on the Halloween franchise! Maybe save it for the new Halloween coming October 19th this year? That would be epic and if anyone is going to rank those films it should be you. Take it easy man and be safe!
My personal best to worst: Scream - nothing beats a classic. Scream 4 - this mix of humor, horror, and self referential nods made Scream something truly special. scream 2 - a gleeful takedown of scary movie conventions that manages to poke fun at terrible horror sequels without falling victim to the same fate. Scream 3 - a crafty and well-crafted wrap- up that really does bring a satisfying sense of closure to the franchise. ------------------------- edit: i wrote this before watching the video, i genuinely didn’t know the list was the same.
Everyone has their own opinions/views - Respect! :) Here is mine: 1). Scream 2 (primarily for the sound studio and the car scenes - pure suspense!) 2). Scream (classic) 3). Scream 3 (I liked it, several decent thriller scenes) 4). Scream 4 (it was more of a comedy rather than a serious thriller, and predictable) But that's just my humble opinion
I really like Scream 2. I can’t place it above the original but I can totally see why people would favor it the most. Timothy Olyphant was great as the killer.
I would swap 4 with 3 but other then that I agree. I think scream 1 is a brilliant movie but in my opinion the second one is better overall.Think about this: You have the opening scene, then the cici scene, then sidney gets attacked, then randy dies, gale and dewey get chased and dewey almost died, then comes the car scene and after that we are already at the killer reveal. Its just non-stop suspense. And then a nice plot twist with the second killer.
I remember when I was younger that scene where Ghostface chase Gale in those weird corridor before she locked herself was stressful to me, even tho it wasn't a long scene it was still making me uneasy
For me, Charlie and Jill's reveal as the killers made me enjoy Scream 4 just as much as the first Scream movie, if only because they scare me more and I can definitely believe that there would be killers in real life like them, compared to Billy and Stu (though they are scary in their own right). And Scream 4's deaths seem more intense (for lack of a better term) to me than the first Scream's deaths were, to me (I think because the newer Ghostface didn't trip up as much while going after victims, and looked like her or she could move around better killing their victims...)
for me 1. Scream 4 2. Scream 2 3. Scream 4. Scream 3 If we will add the netflix scream series it would look like this: 1. Scream 4 2. Scream season 1 3. Scream 2 4. Scream 5. Scream season 2 6. Scream 3

Maybe she just doesn’t know how to check a pulse and since she didn’t feel anything she assumed he’s dead
Seeing the first one ranked worse would be bad
TheHearseMn That's what I assumed when I watched it. It's amazing how many people can't find a pulse when they are checking for one (hence why untrained people are told to check for breathing instead of a pulse). So I can forgive that one, although I think I hated the explosion kill even more than James did. Loved the Warburton (spelling?) cameo though.
Tinkerer Now that you mention it, that gas explosion was a ridiculous kill. Like how the heck did they not SMELL the gas?
To be honest... I like all the Scream movies. Even Scream 3. Sure, I think it's stupid and by far the weakest, but still not terrible. And I think Scream 2 and 4 are some of the greatest sequels to a film ever, and that the original Scream is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Plus, it's my favourite horror movie of all time

Unfriended Dark Web: Am I a joke to you?
Unfriended dark web isn’t a reboot/remake
I just thought they were talking about modern horror in general, not remakes?
Matthew Breen that too
Yeah, Billy and Stu are definitely the best killers.
Scream 1 is so good like the rest of them is just trying to live up to number 1

Directors usually don’t dictate the creation of a film until it fully enters production, a better example would be producers.
Hits harder now that Scream 5 is doing promotional NFTs.
I honestly think that Scream 2 and 4 are equally good
Julian Flores 4 is hella better
2 is much better
Scream 4 is absolute shit.
Scream 2 is way better than 4

The gas explosion bit would be more at home in a FInal Destination movie.
Is Friday the 13th the only major slasher franchise where the first movie isn't the best?
Maybe!
Luke Custer yes just yes
Luke Custer maybe, have seen jack frost
Nope the chucky series put the second movie as the vest
I think next month may give us another exception... But really it makes sense. The movies which are the most likely to get sequels are the good ones, or the ones which stand out for some reason. For the ones that stand out by the second movie the original idea has worn off for the audience and won't deliver like the first time. For the good ones there are many reasons why the sequel only has a very small chance of being better. I started to type them out but this comment was gonna read like a thesis.
Just watched them all again for the first time in about 8 years and I feel you underrated the second one.

Scream is a trilogy. Scream 4 is a distant 2nd cousin
Emily Wild Scream 4 was meant to be the first chapter of a new trilogy, but due to poor box office and Craven's passing, it was all canceled.
Junior Rocha Would love a fifth movie, but would only want it to wrap up the rest of the series for good.
I don't honesty know what happened to the franchise, where the T.V. series is concerned. MTV gave us 2 seasons, plus a Halloween special, and now they've gone a long hiatus. But Season 3 does not look good. I heard they even want to replace the first two seasons actors for the third season.

Austin Cantley Ask Kevin Williamson. He as a gay man just have been trying to say something.
James William I didn’t know he was gay. But I also don’t really know what he could have been trying to say with that. Oh well
Austin Cantley Yep. Came out in 1999/2000-ish after he had Jack come out on Dawson's Creek which he was the showrunner of before leaving at the end of Season 2 at which point the show as taken over by Greg Berlanti better know for Arrowverse series of shows.

Gamer Fiend he should also review hellraiser but I more want hallowen
He has to kill count the new one first.
My personal best to worst:
Scream - nothing beats a classic.

Here is mine:
1). Scream 2 (primarily for the sound studio and the car scenes - pure suspense!)
2). Scream (classic)
3). Scream 3 (I liked it, several decent thriller scenes)
4). Scream 4 (it was more of a comedy rather than a serious thriller, and predictable)
But that's just my humble opinion
SCREAM 2S THE BEST!!!
I really like Scream 2. I can’t place it above the original but I can totally see why people would favor it the most. Timothy Olyphant was great as the killer.
my exact ranking!
