    For a first video out of the gate? This is rad! There were a couple of errors (you called the refurb Tomorrowland '88 instead of '98 at one point, for instance) and the dates were a bit confusing at 5:50 when you mention the "late 80s" and then talk about Captain EO being open for a decade (it opened in '86). I know that you were setting up for talking about the '98 refurb, but that's because I know the dates (I'm a huge nerd...) and it would be confusing or misleading for someone who doesn't know the dates.
    But seriously, I'm not complaining. This was well done, especially for a first video on a channel. Keep it up, man. You're doing good work!

      I tried to make this as error free as possible, but I guess no ones perfect! Thanks for pointing these out, I was afraid people who didn't know the history would get confused. Thanks for the support!!

      Those errors aren't bad at all. I'm being nitpicky because I love park history. This was a great video and I can't wait to see more! :)

    People mover was one of my most favorite things at Disneyland. Being a kid and going through the tron simulation and space mountain rides. Like a ride within a ride. Rocket rods was such a disappointment after the people mover. The line was so long and it was always breaking. I’m guessing cause the track thing you explained. Great stuff man!!

    I still think the people mover could have revolutionized local public transport. Especially for leisure travel. Just imagine taking a people mover in a new city, just sitting back, hear and see what's where. It would be a hit tourist attraction *and* a nice way to get around town.

    I loved the people mover and miss it I wish Disneyland would bring it back.

    WED Enterprises actually tried to sell the PeopleMover (specifically, the LIM-powered Disney World technology) as an urban mass transit system in the 70s and 80s. They got only one buyer: the Houston airport. To this day (though I think not for much longer), one of the inter-terminal trains there is a Disney derivative.

      Honestly, given how low impact system is, I can’t imagine there’s any real reason to remove it.

    Excellent history video. I never cared for the Rocket Rods and really did not like the "makeover" in 1998 of Tomorrowland. I loved the Peoplemover, with or without Tron (but with is better just to be clear!). I enjoyed it as an adult in the 90s and I did not care that it was dated, it was just enjoyable - but I understand progress - it always progresses. To me, Disneyland will always be the mid 70s through the late 90s where you could still enjoy a lot of older aspects and some new aspects. Anyway, thanks Matt.

    Wow! They really screwed up Tomorrowland at Disneyland. It's like a decaying, dystopian version of the future. At least Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland feels like a relic of what the future was envisioned to look like in 1985. Disneyland should just bull doze Tomorrowland and turn it into Fantasyland expansion

    That PeopleMover ride was in business at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA from Sunday, July 2, 1967 until it broke down on Monday, August 21, 1995.
    Then it became Rocket Rods from Friday, May 22, 1998 to Monday, September 25, 2000.
    The unused PeopleMover / Rocket Rod tracks has been standing but not operating since Tuesday, September 26, 2000.
    By late July 2018, they could first remove the Rocket Rod observatron from the pylon and then remove all the old Rocket Rod / PeopleMover tracks between tearing down and rebuilding.
    Around 2021-2023 in Tomorrowland's above ground platform, as opposed to the old PeopleMover (1967-1995) & Rocket Rods (1998-2000), due to the possibility of people with wheelchairs or mobility scooters, instead of the New PeopleMover, we all know it could be Heathrow Pod Tour, it could be iMover, it could be Boxcar Tour or it could be a new ride with normal speed that is more comfortable than ever before.

      I am a big fan of Disneyland from 1967 to 1987. We lost a LOT of great rides over the years. I appreciate your work showcasing these great memories. You have your work cut out for you Matt: Rocket Jets, America Sings, Skyway, Country Bear Jamboree, etc etc

    Don't be so harsh on the no good footage. For most too young to imagine, there were no smartphones and flash photography consisted of one flashbulb flash at a time. Space Mountain also didn't have the lighting effects it has now, so it was really dark aside from glowing orange orb representing a Jupiter like star (big and orange) and a few projections like an asteroid. The only thing you could see from the peoplemover is the shadow of a coaster as it barreled past.

    Matterhorn Matt, we are on a quest to figure out a mystery. On the 1990 peoplemover video here on UA-cam, it shows an empty platform where the rocket jets are supposed to be. The jets weren't removed until about '97. No one seems to know the story. Do you know what happened?

    If they haven’t used COVID to completely revamp it, they wasted their time. The old track better be gone at least.

    • @patrickperalta59
      @patrickperalta59 4 роки тому

      Mike, I agree with Disneyland currently shut down do to the COVID now would be a great time to rebuild and update the people mover. with the park closed no need to worry about blocking off the buildings the tracks go through... I mean normally when they shut down a ride to update it they have fences or walls blocking the area off to keep the crowds away while they work on it.

    These videos are great. I love the VHS as well as the overall aesthetic. It is clear that a lot of talent and love went into them. I'm curious where you found such a clean recording of the Peoplemove music. Mainly, were you able to source the production music artist and find a recording straight from the source? As a huge fan of production music I'd love it if this were true.

    • @MountaineerProductions
      @MountaineerProductions  6 років тому

      Thank you! Sadly I wasn't able to find the original source, but I'm working on it! I got the music I use in my videos from another UA-cam channel that uploaded them.

    • @qatsidan
      @qatsidan 6 років тому

      I've sent a message to Jeremy from Spectro Radio. Maybe he has the answer. If not, I'll put on my research hat and let you both know what I find because *I WILL FIND THE ANSWER*! It took me a year to find this: ua-cam.com/video/nskvRb36YBc/v-deo.html. I'll find more.

    • @MountaineerProductions
      @MountaineerProductions  6 років тому

      Hey that would mean a lot! I got a copyright notice in my latest podcast because of the music, and since then I've been trying to find the original sources for all the tracks. ua-cam.com/video/UL-araTrNIk/v-deo.html This is where I got them from if that helps!

    • @qatsidan
      @qatsidan 6 років тому

      You seem to have some seriously bad luck with copyright notices. For Adventureland stuff, look for Les Baxter, Arthur Lyman, and 101 Strings. But Jack Wagner's exotica collection was very deep from what I can tell. Back when I was doing this research in earnest I had to just rely on orchestration. That's what led me to 101 Strings' version of Moon Over Manakoora.

    I've always thought a giant people mover around EPCOT with 5 or 6 stations would be great. You could do a round trip or any portion thereof. It would concentrate on transporting rather than weaving all the way into and out of pavilions.
