Probably a huge reason they had a spot in the First Wave of Black Metal. They inadvertently looked the part and played the part so well that they were in league with Venom and Bathory and Celtic Frost and Sodom. Slayer was so much back in the day, and they didn't even know it. That's the cool part, really.
I would have loved to have seen a metal show live in the 80's. It's good to see that everyone is enjoying the show. Now all you see is fucking cell phones in the crowd recording.
In the 80s the shows were ridiculously violent. I remember seeing a lot of blood and violence man. A lot of people got hurt through crowdsurfing and stupidly violent mosh pits. It wasn’t that nice from that perspective. But a great time for bands for sure.
@@neonknight-1522 they’re not as violent now like the 80s and that’s a good thing. In the 80s you had uncivilised morons who brought studs and leather boots specifically to hurt people and draw blood - literally. And I am glad that whole thing is gone now because it was mostly just violent idiots and also many racist Nazi skinheads. There were tonnes of them at shows back then too.
Man, if Tom focused more on a more melodic singing voice he would've had a equally if not a even more powerful voice than Hetfield's I mean that "CRYING IN LUST" was so powerful one can just imagine. And he actually has a really nice melodic singing voice so it's a shame he didn't focused on that more

@iandhave Tom is the bassist/vocalist. Kerry is the guitarist with brown hair (now bald with a beard). Jeff with blonde hair on the other guitar, Dave on drums.
Sick...choreographed headbanging! Imagine if you had never even heard of Slayer back then and you went to this show...Your brain would surely turn to shit.
This bass had a bad sound itself. That's why Tom was burried in the mix in Reign in Blood. Poor guy, seems like he really loved this bass, he was really emotionally connected with it. Good thing he still has it, hope he plays with it from time to time
How could any metal fan not like this???
probably shitallica and megapoop fanboy fappers
@@missing_5_7_89 hey Megadeth is a good band
@@pervertdavidellefson118 They're ok but still quite overrated. No match for Slayer whatsoever.
@@missing_5_7_89 I like Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, and have my mind opem to all bands. This is how most people are I would imagine.
We can all agree that Anthrax sucks at least
Man...Slayer looked straight-up black metal back in the day, with the inverted crosses and spiked armbands.
Except slayer is infinitely better than any of those pussy black metal bands
They were considered 1st wave Black Metal often times, even advertised themselves sometimes as Black Metal and heavily contributed, to the sound.
venom was doing it before
oh shit... araya playing with his fingers!
the good ol days
1:41 Look at both Tom and Dave... It seems Tom's scream opened the gates to Hell and the whole stage was possessed for those few seconds... Evil af!
Everyone likes to clown on Kerry but he has some pretty solid solos like in this one 💀💯
His solos are better than hanneman imo
Show no mercy is the best slayer album for solos
I thought people respected the man he has intense riffs and solos
Kerry has played some of the best solo's ever
Both Jeff and Kerry did great solos
R.I.P my master Jeff
RIP Jeff the king of trash...
Andres Svarne thrash*
RIP Jeff Hanneman, the king of thrash metal...
Dave "RPG-22" Lombardo destroying that drum kit
Hell yeah
Forever one of my top 3 slayer songs. So many legendary tunes, but something about "Black Magic"
1:38 crying in lussssssssssssttttttttttttt
Lombardo is a freak on those drums!!!!!!
0:18 BRUH this is awesome lol
So awesome
Best live version
FUCKING SLAYER
Agreed.
was there! I was only 15 years old, it was fuckin great!!
I was 14 in June 1985 when I saw them in Luttenberg, of all places....

Slayer is like a weird hybrid between first wave black and proto death metal
Awesome! I love that they are playing an already fast song twice as fast as the studio version!
Love the synchronized head bang at beginning!!!
true
Kerry with hair !!!

gotta love the way that dave lombardo just goes nutts while playing the drums...
Awesome. Classic tune. Dave Lombardo is a maniac on those drums. SLAYER!!!!!!
This Slayer performance is the equivalent to Metallica’s Seattle ‘89 concert
Ritz 86' is the Slayers equivalent to Seattle 89'
Best recorded metallica performance is hammer festival 1985. Just check fight fire with fire
nowhere near slayer performance
@@toolsninja8286 Metal Hammer '85...Fight Fire with Fire
Slayer always played in a raw and brutal way, nothing to do with Metallica what a pointless comparison.

Magic
[Lyrics - King; Music - Hanneman, King]
Cursed
Black magic night
We've been struck down
Down in this Hell
Spells surround me day and night
Stricken by the force of evil light
The force of evil light
Cast
Under his spell
Blinding my eyes
Twisting my mind
Fight to resist the evil inside
Captive of a force of Satan's might
A force of Satan's might
Fighting the curse
Break it I must
Laughing in sorrow
Crying in lust
My strength slips fast
Soon I must fall
Victim of fortune
My sources grow small
Life slips away
As demons come forth
Death takes my hand
And captures my soul
All of them are fucking legends, but man, Dave is the man behind the kit.

lets see him scream like that today.
+Daniel Flores "You want the impossible" - Luke Skywalker
Maybe is the bad sound, maybe is the drumming (faster than usual for this song), maybe is tom's satan voice...but this is almost black metal
Yaa, 2:25
