I’m 43 too buddy. Literally could not imagine life without Slayer. Been a fan since the 80s. Love them as much now as I did then. They kept getting better and better and ended it on top. Welcome to the world of SLAYER!!!

At this point, Slayer was evil in its most purest form. I think the album Hell Awaits represents the ultimate Slayer, the true Slayer that every fan should understand. There's a witchcraft embracing all that record that creates an atmosphere that we can't find on any other album they've done.. and you can hear that atmosphere, you can see it and you can smell it. With Hell Awaits you can actually feel Slayer and feel to yourself becoming captive of that atmosphere.
Thats fuc....true at 10000% tomdanx, this age represent the pure sound, soul, twisted minds, nasty and evil of the band......Hell Await by far the best album of Slayer!!!!
I agree with everything you said. I wish they continued in this direction. They could have released even better stuff. Hell Awaits is their true masterpiece and when i think of Slayer this album embodies everything Slayer stood far and the band was at their very best.
1000% agree with your comment, the atmosphere is just unmatchable, listening to this album with a good set of headphones in the middle if the night makes you feel like you're in the fiery depths of hell
Most other "Satanic" albums seemed like cheesy efforts to simply gain attention; but not Hell Awaits. The lyrics are so cold and so ingeniously written. Lombardo kills and foreshadows his reign as the king of drummers. King and Jeff put on a dual lead clinic that has never been matched (even on R.I.B.). The solos were longer; but that just adds fuel and credibility to how good and durable they are (you see them killing it live right here). Tom is the best metal vocalist ever and his criminally underrated contribution was just the icing on the cake. I am a huge metal/rock fan that has heard it all. Hell Awaits is my favorite album of all time and the muddy production makes it even better!
I totally agree...The best album for me too...The riffs are great...The 'soul' is different...Before Rick Rubin ruined things in this band in a weird way
@El señor de la tienda - I agree with your comment, but you forgot to add that the Norwegian BM scene was shit. The production, lyrics, musicianship, everything about those bands was and always will be shit.
Could you imagine being in LA in the early 80's, thinking you know what metal was (sunset strip) and seeing these guys with no clue to who venom was? Would blow your head straight off!!!!!!!!!!!
Metal truly became metal once it absorbed punk rocks aggression, eg., The exploited, and raw energy. Judas and Maiden was too polished...it was punk rock plus Sabbath and Venom riffing that did it.
It must have been HEAVEN (haha) I`ve been"in love" with Slayer since -86 (ca?) when i accidentaly heard Show no Mercy...Been lots of great thrash bands coming and going since then, but Slayer will always be my nr 1"in my heart"
I'm 23...and I am so fucking pissed that I was not becoming an adult right when metal cMe out.....fuck all you 40 and 50 year olds...FUCK YOU.....IM GODDAMN JELIOUS
29 years later, still very heavy and still great writing. off kilter timing, starting slow and menacing and ending in a fast flurry. a thrash classic. gothic horror at its finest. although...the end would be nice!
Nobody did it like Jeff hannamen. His style was so unique, along with his song writing lyrics/music. A true legend gone but never forgotten. Rock in peace Jeff. SLAYER!!
This was definitely the good 'ol days!!!!!!!!!!! THE BEST time for metal & to be a teenager..WHEN METAL RULED THE AIRWAVES! LONG LIVE old school SLAYER!!!
First time that i see Dave play open handed. When i heard this song the first time i had so much respect for the little gallop in the double bass pattern. Took me a while to get it right.
i dont know why but a really like this sound of slayer in holand, more than many other concerts, Its a classic, their best albums: show no mercy and hell awaits, for me
I love this song!!!! It reminds me of high school back in the day, when metal was cool!!!! The music sounds pissed off and angry. No wonder they were well received by punks and metalheads alike. Also reminds me of going back to school on Monay with a serious case of headbanging-itis. Those were the daze...
@FlamingCannibal That is so, SO true ! To be honest I haven't even heard a more 'evil' album in all of death metal either. From the music to the lyrics to the vocals and the overall vibe, HA is just about Slayer's baddest album. And definitely one of my favorites. It's brutally beautiful !
this is when I first started to know Slayer.....they fuckin' took it to the next level! No other band compares in my opinion! and I know my metal! RIP Jeff....you WILL be missed...all the best to Slayer and Jeff's friends and family......
+sultanofthesands1 I still remember what I was doing when I first heard Hell Awaits. sitting in my room with another guy who pulled this wild looking cassette cover out and then putting the tape into my boom box. Changed my world. I wore out a cassette a record, and a couple tapes of that record. I think I need to get another record just for the cover.
I dont recall any court cases regarding Slayer fans becoming serial killers after hearing this song, yet Judas Priest got dragged over the coals for 'Do it' which isn't even audible. Funny old world. Love this period of Slayer!
One of the best metal songs ever written. God this is classic. A must learn for any guitar player. Speaking of, I need to relearn it....
Man I'm 43 and just started listening to Slayer. ADTS is so far my fave song. Angel of Death being equally awesome. Hell Awaits is bas azz

They were the most talented band in the hard genre - each member was vital to their success.
Legend says that dave is still doing that drum solo to this day......
He actually is.
He is but the audio wasn't in phase with the video so that means he'll still be playing it long after this conversatione
Could you imagine being in LA in the early 80's, thinking you know what metal was (sunset strip) and seeing these guys with no clue to who venom was? Would blow your head straight off!!!!!!!!!!!
I was there, but a bunch of us went straight from hardcore punk to this seamlessly.

Imagine going to see the Misfits and they play Samhain songs only
Or seeing DRI and they play crossover.
1:22 this part reminded me how Tom Araya was just one moustache to become pure south american
Slayer is the greatest metal band ever.
In their prime, quite possibly.
This song cannot be matched.
Hell awaits
Old school slayer...
The drumming at the end was sick as hell.
This is still heavy....If I saw this today......I would consider it heavy and MEAN....Slayer is awesome
29 years later, still very heavy and still great writing. off kilter timing, starting slow and menacing and ending in a fast flurry. a thrash classic. gothic horror at its finest. although...the end would be nice!
@Cosmic lol really...Who really gives a crap ?
This was already surpassed in heaviness by 85
Heavy never loses weight.
¡Lombardo es un animal! Hail Slayer
\m/ Bangs head\m/
Dude hats off to the dude who filmed this cause this is outstanding quality footage of the gods at their peek ..IMFO
This is perfection and if anyone like myself who was lucky to see Slayer live in the 80''s can see what they reigned supreme...and still do!
This hands down is probably my all-time favorite video of Hahnemann and King together man they tore it up in this video
Nobody did it like Jeff hannamen. His style was so unique, along with his song writing lyrics/music. A true legend gone but never forgotten. Rock in peace Jeff. SLAYER!!
My favorite song on "Hell awaits". The riff is timeless.
Hell Awaits is my favorite album and this happens to be my favorite song from that album.
How great it is to be young and full of seemingly endless energy.
Fucking wicked quality man, great stuff
i love toms slaytanic wehrmacht shirt, haha
Most brutal album ever Slayer forever rules.
I've been into Slayer since 85/86. Lombardo inspired me to play the drums. I had NEVER heard that drum solo until just now. Killer.
Really good sound for such an old video. Great upload. Thanks for sharing.
Best track on that album hands down.....
This song has been stuck in my head for the last week. Good video.
When we all were young anď Slayer ruled the world.

Bad to the mother fuckin bone!! I was 15 in '85 jammin' on this shit!!
+Dave Budrus I wish. I wuz 15 in '10 jammin' on this shit. Music is a beautiful thing.
me too. It was a special time to be a Slayer fan.
First time that i see Dave play open handed.

The best song from 'Hell Awaits'. Awesome!
2:59 Beware the image unseen... stalks your soul... your corpse's redeem!!

The audio and video are from different shows, it's an edit. Read the description, people. :)
+strangersound When I heard cymbal crashes where Dave wasn't playing any during the drum solo, I think that was a dead giveaway! LOL!
Good. It made it fantastic.
Metal is evil and destructive!!!
Keep it that way, that's why we love it...
This is metal HELL YEAH!

I wish the entire song was louder.

I want a time machine so I can go back in time and see them live then. It sucks I couldn't have been around back then
Greatest fucking thrash metal band of all time
I've always thought the same about this album's "evil" tone. Sick shit still to this day.
😩 beautiful

Brings me back to when I was 15 in 1985, awesome sound thanks for posting it!!!!
That was fucking amazing. Note perfect just like the album. Great picture and sound for 85, too.
As Fenriz says this was death metal and the world didn’t know it yet.
Awesome.
Slayer´s Best Album ....Hell Awaits
This is the real deal !!!!
If you're in the crowd here, you're at the cutting edge of metal in 1985, or for the whole 80s really.
Most say reign in blood is the masterpiece, but hell awaits is far darker and more disturbing - this is a must for every serial killers mp3 player.
They all look so fucking cool up there =) One of my favorites from Slayer............if you can narrow down such a thing.
It really is fucking hard to narrow it down, but this is one of my favorite Slayer songs. It, like the band, totally fucking slays.
This is some seriously killer shit right here!! Fantastic and Brutal!
@4:09 Jeff's brutal headbanging! 🤘
I'm 52. A friend said this Classic could be used to dance Break (!) . With 18 yrs old got it was about vampires. Cool stuff!

A little late but this was great stuff. Thanks for combining the soundboard recording with the video!
Beautiful
Slayer at their best.
Dope as fuck. BC Riches across the stage. The Golden Era of Slayer.
Where they found their identity...... Reign and seasons are it but wouldn't have been what they were without hell awaits!
