    Great video Tim! Good to show the practicality as a family hauler.... Love the LZ0 3.0L diesel. I consistently get 22-26 city, 25-34 hwy, (with my lead foot). DEF usage is about 7k miles (until I tow). Keep it up Tim.

      34 highway with the LZ0? I have a 2024 high country Silverado with the LZO that I put ~8k miles a month of pure highway driving and the best I’ve done is 31.5. I typically get 26.4. What are the speed limits you’re driving on? I do notice significantly better mpg around 50 vs 70+ which my highways are.

      I have a 2WD Silverado with 3.23 rear axle. I'm in Texas so it is mostly flat. Driving between 60-70 mph I get between 32-34 mpg. When I want to get there quickly, I'm between 75-85 mph (occasionally above to pass), getting about 26mpg. Got about 13k miles. Changed my break-in oil at about 1,000 miles & regular oil changes about 5, 000 miles (with Amsoil). . . Love the torque in this engine. Hope this helps!

    Nice looking rig. I think you are right; the baby Duramax is an ideal powertrain from GM right now. A great combo of power and economy. I much prefer the layout of the GM screens to some others. They look well integrated to the dash.

    I think you made a great clarifying openning point regarding the 3.0 - it’s not a heavy duty towing engine but a fuel economy engine. At the same time, I think 8K towing is more than enough for 90% of the people that buy these to pull their campers, boats, utility trailers etc. I think its a great looking SUV. Im happy to hear that the seats are improves as well. What was your fuel economy?

    I understand and appreciate the bump in fuel economy. However, those gains are more than offset by the 20% (average) price premium for diesel fuel, added cost of DEF, and increased diesel maintenance cost. The tie breaker with diesel vs gas is torque for towing and hauling. But you made it clear this is not a towing diesel. For me, the value prop is tough to find.

    • @tomkeen9421
      @tomkeen9421 2 місяці тому +1

      Actually... on average, if you look at either the 6.2 or the 5.3 you're getting approx 30 cents / mile... and the diesel is getting 19 cents / mile. And that is WITH cost of def added in. Soooo it's 11 cents / miles cheaper to go with diesel.
      Now, you're right on one part....add in the extra expense of costlier oil changes and fuel filter changes .... soooo 11 cents X 6,000 = $660...

      I don't remember if it was John Barta or someone else at GM early on that said it, but basically the 3.0 was always intended to be a daily driver / commuter for the MPG with the added benefit of the torque a light duty diesel provides for pulling the boat to and from the lake on the weekend, a small to mid sized trailer for home improvement goods, etc. i.e. for the average Joe. I personally do not think a 1/2 ton should be pulling 8k+. 5-7k is the sweet spot for the 3.0. That's all I've ever asked for out of my LM2 and it does it well.

With kayaks, wood, humans, I’m just under my max payload. I don’t recall seeing a payload greater than 1600 with the diesel. 3/4 is overkill and a 1/2 ton is barely enough. Diesel here in Canada is roughly 20-21 cents more than regular gasoline on average so operating costs as well as general maintenance is will cost you more per mile than gasoline vehicles. Servicing and cost of parts is so much more so theres def no cost savings.

    The biggest problem with diesels is the fuel! I love the R-95/99 blends. But the best performance is found using Hot Shots Secret EDT. I am considering replacing my 2016 Ram 1500 4wd 3.92 ratio Ecodiesel with something that has a better psyload. My Dodge Durango has a 60# higher payload than my pickup. On icy roads the smaller diesel is more manageable than my wife's 2018 Ram 2500 4wd 3.42 ratio 6.7L, and some of that is the gear ratio. While the 3.73 ratio works nicer, a 4.10 ratio would be better. The inline engine keeps the turbo cooler. But if I bought one of the new Chevy diesel pickups. I would have the dealer change the gear ratio to something more useful. If fuel economy matters, just drive 65mph or less. At 62mph, my '23 Jeep Wrangler gets 29-30mpg. Driving 35-50mph down 2 lane country roads of Northern and Central California. My Ecodiesel gets from 27-42mpg depending on the weather and the hills. The Chevy diesel with a 4.10 ratio should do about the same.

Save on fuel and pay a big bill later if you keep it for long enough. 6.2 and the 3 liter are both nice engines. Hopefully this obvious, and true, statement doesn't stir the pot right up.

      It's a popular engine choice, with great capabilities. At least in the Silverado/Sierra it can tow up to 13,000 lbs or it can get 29 mpg unladen. With the Tahoe/Suburban I think a lot of the capabilities are hindered with the GM choice for the SUV suspension setup.

      @Pickuptrucktalk Why not maybe because I look at the vehicles of the past and I like those looks of vehicles.And why is it a problem to go to a used vehicle? I see no problem with going used or pre-owned over a new vehicle I like the Excursion and I like the look of the Square body Chevys and GMCs. And I like the older body styles of vehicles from Ford Ram and the GM twins I see no problem with my comment. I think also a lot of people buy new vehicles not for the right reasons. And that's why a lot of the things in vehicles I dislike and why vehicles are so jacked up in price. And to me a lot of times going used or pre-owned is not a bad thing like people claim it to be. Not everyone needs a new vehicle they just buy a vehicle because they want the next best thing like with phones as well. People have lost touch with wants and needs this is how I live my life and how I was raised. And this is what I believe in maybe you see it differently but I live this what my father taught this and I stand by it.
