I gave up playing guitar many times over the years due to tendon issues. I had trigger finger surgery in January and haven't felt this good in years so I'm playing drums now. If I continue to have issues we are going to start throwing auto immune drugs at it till we find the right one as opposed to more tensenovitis (which I get flares of from time to time) more scar tissue and surgery.
Dr. Told me to play and get it angry (also document) so we can take the next steps. My focus is doing it right and taking every precaution along the way to not cause injury, and am even doing physical therapy exercises along the way.
I don't know what to tell you I need to learn, but I feel like I found the right place. Dr. mentioned that he wanted to try and understand what was going on bio mechanically and with that info that I'm documenting and an angry mri we are hoping to get a clear picture.
I'm currently dealing with tensenovitis or rubber band tightness in my middle finger especially but others as well which comes and goes with or without any clear reason. It will get so bad my carpel tunnel gets tight and swollen and my forearm gets puffy above the wrist. I got some tennis and golfers elbow but that was clearly done practicing rudiments for speed rather than technique. I quickly noticed the burn and stopped and fixed that issue, but hands do what they want.
All pathology came back negative at surgery so I hope to fix my issues with attention to bio mechanics using Drums as a catalyst before I have to try nasty auto immune drugs like blindly throwing darts.
    Please help!!!

Thanks so much for sharing that detail. Honestly, there’s a lot to discuss to see if I can offer any support at all. Please email me. Would love to see if I can offer Any suggestions

Amazing video, I'm also into biomechanics applied to drumming and your videos are gold. Your channel should have way more subscribers! If you happen to be in Italy one day and you come to Rome, I can organize some clinics for you.

I also became a better drummer after I started lifting weights seriously... an incredible improvement in all the drumming aspects.

I’d love to learn more about stretching for drummers. I have some go-to stretches, but I use them typically only when I’m feeling fatigue or discomfort (I know better..)

Thank you for making these videos dude! You asked us for questions to help you out so I'll give you one.
About 10 years ago the center console in my car broke my back when I was t-boned by a plumber van. I did not know that my back was broken for about 3 years and continue to live a very active lifestyle as normal until I could no longer walk. The chiropractor basically unpinched whatever was pinched in my back and made it so I can walk again after some therapy and some more chiropractor visits. Come full circle I am trying to slowly introduce going back to the gym and getting back into shape again.
I've noticed that while in a flow state playing the drums I really do not feel any of the physical burdens which could be a problem but playing music does make me feel better.
My only question And I know you covered some of it with the drum throne set up and seating position but what are some good lower back exercises and or stretching that you might find beneficial as it relates to the mechanics of moving around the drum kit

Good question! I’ll make a video on this. Bigger question to answer on a comment - thanks!

Hey Brandon I love how informative your videos are... I've been playing about 12 years now and have hit a plateau where I'm really struggling to maintain consistent technique/timing after getting through most of a set, and I think you really hit the nail on the head with this video. I've been focusing so hard on technique behind the kit I didn't even think about focusing on weight training.
Anyway your videos are giving a lot of great insight to how I can keep developing, it would be great to see some videos on specific stretches & exercises to help target muscles that drummer's will find crucial to their performance

I will definitely do a video on some stretches/preparation technique. Thanks so much!

I like your videos. I've been playing for 18 years now and had shoulder pains for over 7 years. Most likely from playing the remote hihat like Danny from Tool. I'm not as tall as he so my arm was raised while playing the hihat. And I also hit quite hard.
I played for 3 years with this configuration and then suddenly I couldn't lift my arm above my shoulder. Went to a chiro a few times so I could continue my playing. Now my neck is also sore, but mainly on the opposite side. Seeing a surgeon who isn't sure what's the problem yet.
I think it's chronic stiffness in my muscles because it feels as if I must force my shoulder to "stay down" and relaxed.
I stretch each day and started to go to the gym regularly, specifically to strengthen my back, I even studied to become a massage therapist to understand this issue. Any thoughts?
Any back exercises you would recommend?
    Appreciate your work!

Thanks for asking! Honestly, with such a complex problem and no true health and medical data to make recommendations, it would be impossible for me to make an accurate recommendation. I will say this, though… Several her client to expand in Christ muscle tightness, we’ve gotten them to stop stretching. Switching there mobility practice is tomorrow isometric base routines. It’s made a world of difference!

Can’t find a great spot for the hi hat since I switched to double pedal 😔😔

That's why a lot of people switch over to 15 inch hats get a little extra reach.

Try a remote hi hat .. allows you to place your foot where you need it and then place the hats in close. I fought that issue for years. Have fun

Brandon how’s it going I’m 22 and I play quite frequently. Around two years ago I started developing pain in my fingers It has been with me ever since it comes and goes it’s not too bad normally but it almost always flares up worse after I play for a long time - I do stretches consistently And have adjusted different things per your videos like biomechanics , or with more proper technique, however I have not had much success in reliving my symptoms. Any advice?
