Thank you. I’m researching about thrones because I have problems in my back. What’s your opinion about a Gibraltar 9608SFT ? I appreciate your thoughts about it
Bro you do realize you’re doing cardio while drumming, if you play hard enough at least. Most sessions I start sweating. Now that seems a lot better than just standing still!
Love the videos. I would love for you to talk about traditional snare angle more. I go back and forth from traditional to match. Would love to know the healthiest way to go about it!!!!!
Depends on the tom height. I intentionally use short toms and a 20" kick to allow me to get my toms much lower than most. My snare, rack toms and floor toms are all pretty much level, but with about a 5 degree tilt towards me.
Thanks for all the great info Brandon
Happy to help !
Does hitting the head at an angle like that wear it out any faster?
Great question. The short answer is yes. Moving further away from the 90 degree angle strike zone increase the amount of force going directly into the head which would cause more material damage over time.
As a 58 yr old woman with low back problems (bulging disks) from a lifetime of computer jockey work and who is starting drumming, THIS IS HUGELY HELPFUL! Thank you so much for explaining this critical body mechanic and showing me how to determine what is healthy and comfortable for me body.
More! More like this please!❤
Happy to do more! Do you mean left lead fills?
Seeing this video seven years later is CRAZY! 🤩
One other thing to consider (as I have found out by using a similar setup) is remote hats can make it harder to execute single handed 16ths on the hats at higher tempos. They sit pretty high which makes the motion awkward.
Disagree. Flat rack toms as you point out make rim shots much easier, and rack tom rim shots are crucial in a musical setting.
They really aren't crucial mate
@@drummingtildeath In a jazz setting they absolutely are.
I just want a routine I cando forever, not to pick and choose dozens of videos.
No problem. That will be coming as well. The monthly program is a a progressive program based off of similar concepts each month. The goal to make sure the routine is constantly progressing to ensure you get great results long-term
My rule of thumb is if I can comfortably hit a rimshot on every drum without needing to avoid the rim (I believe a 20-30 degree angle, but I’m not a mathematician, so don’t hold me to that).
So Jojo Mayer, Benny Greb and countless of the best technicians have a bad set up...got it. You didn't discuss arm length or tom height either. So for a mechanics guy, not considering that drums are in spherical coordinates in that sense this was a let down.
i had my spine removed as a baby
Who brings all of that to a gym brother
No shit
Where should my pelvis be on the throne? Centered, forward, aft? Does this change with saddle or other types of thrones?
You told me something I didn't know. while also telling me nothing. I thought that was impossible
Terry Bozzio's joints need to be studied
"Which, truthfully, is actually a horse strap that was used for innapropriate things" Hell yeah
That group of 3 with double bass exercise is really smart!!!
Travis taught me the barefoot barehand technique when we toured together. Very different but works.
Interesting but without an actual example this video isn't doing much.
For years I’ve been having mental blocks about the kick double strokes. It refrains me from being free and happy on the drums. I was trained as a classical percussionist and the drums is the instrument where I feel like utter shit. A kick double stroke at 100 bpm? Almost already too much. I really want to get better and I know it's not gonna happen overnight but it is very demotivating. Do you talk about this problem in your course? Either way I'm considering joining but still wanted to know that before.
It is a super great question! The economics course certainly does not get into developing specifically double stroke double bass work. There is gonna be a new bass drum technique chapter that’ll be added very very soon. I’d suggest talking to Alex Cohen for your specific goal. He’s a master at exactly what you’re working on.
@@brandondrummechanics hey man, is your coupon code for your course not available anymore?
What is that practice pad on your snare
“Ostinato” pad by Prologix, Johnny Rabb’s signature pad. It’s amazing
Great video, very helpful tips! Will certainly try them out. Thanks!
I am in my 50s just now starting to learn drums but I've had a pair of those shoes for 10 years and I love em!
Well done. I've been thinking about the topic of this clip for a long time, and now I came across it. I can find fine flow with any stick when it comes to practice pad. The problem arises when it needs to be transferred to the drum set and to the live performance. I play soft music with my band and I need a lot of control over the stick to maintain an adequate level of dynamics. Since I have large palms, the 2B shaft fits me, so that my arm and wrist muscles are relaxed, because when I take a thinner club, I no longer have control over the club itself, without jeopardizing the relaxation of the arm and wrist muscles. Considering that in 90% of the cases our gig is somewhere about 80 ish DB, the 2b shaft is unusable. I tried maple sticks, but they don't have adequate weight to get an adequate bounce. I've been struggling with it for many years, and I can't find a solution, so I'm wondering if you might have some good advice for me. Thanks in advance.
Wonder if I have this around on the outside of my right knee..
It's not that hard if you play guitar. Lots of guitarists have a lot of pinky strength. My pinky is not Paul Gilbert strong but I don't have issues. Been playing 45 years. 😊
Didn't he need extreme surgeries to work on tendinitis?
you're like the squat university of drumming and it is fucking awesome man you're a gold mine thank you!
That's a lot of fingering
damn your timing on this feels personal 😂 thank you!

Drop sets!
I got the round Tama 1st Chair Xl and the base had a lock screw, now I cannot install the back rest.
Back when I started 12/13 years ago there was this New Age guy who promoted the Carmichael Drum Throne which Ahead thrones ended up getting the patent for. Dude would talk about compost and stretching routines and green juice on the same video. Can't remember his name. I'm glad someone filled that space.
You are the best man !! Appreciate what you’re doing ❤
I appreciate that! Happy to help
Thank you!
paradiddle?! diddy got a twin or something
I don't remember where I saw it, but what was it that you said regarding our forearms and striking the snare? I wanna say, something like them being parallel to the deck.
I never understood I was a nerd then. When talking to people sometimes they lose interest cause whatever I get into I want to get to the bottom of it. I really like your way of handling drumming. I was waiting for those videos for decades, believe me. Thanks
Thanks for the thoughtful response. Glad to hear this content is helping you!
6 foot tall, long legs. Plus or minus 90 degree angle at the knee? What do you recommend for speed and control. Currently developing ankle technique
I really can't feel the pedals with shoes on, socks do me right
Great advice
i wish my roc n soc locked lowkey
Hey Brandon! Great video again🎉😊. Do you ever give drum lessons or will you be uploading videos on lessons on YT soon?
Yes! I’m in the process of launching a new website with lots of education courses and resources. Time consuming! Stay tuned. UA-cam will be next
@@brandondrummechanics I am definitely staying tuned. Looking forward to it😊
😳 Imma start trying to do this... Keyword trying 😅
