Thank you for being candid… and for not trying to sell products or taking lots of freebies to review. Once a channel starts receiving products or money for their reviews, I become skeptical. I just don’t think that people can do honest reviews when there’s money on the line. I’ve always felt that when you talk about anything, it’s your honest, heartfelt opinion. Hoping your channel keeps growing for another 10 years!

@@Melissa55 I have no idea why my name has changed. When I set UA-cam up a decade or so ago, I chose “alamochiliqueen” as the channel name (I thought I might post recipes, but never did). Then I used my name “Nola A” to display when I commented.
Well… a few weeks ago I was fiddling around, updating my profile. When I got finished, my channel name was displaying next to my comments. I haven’t a clue what I did.
If she had a “thank you” button, would you consider giving her a little extra money for not doing sponsorships?

Most UA-camrs with this # of subscribers will make significantly more money than this! We’re talking thousands of dollars per month! The only reason she’s not is because she doesn’t do sponsorships or collaborations! It’s her choice, but she’s definitely undermining all the work she puts into the channel and missing out on significant income! Very rare, and I’m sure she has her reasons, but I guess there are a few people in the world who are not money motivated😃
@wanderwoman3976: yeah I had to go check her subscriber count, views, and engagement. I don’t understand. But, maybe she doesn’t include a lot of ads because even without collabs, I heard another content creator say that she made 20k in a month. She has 500k subscribers, but 20k vs 400 sound like a such a disparity, no???
Ooos to be clear the other creator makes 20k without collabs.
When you said you're benefitting your grandchildren I subscribed.
People come on UA-cam as creators most of times solely with an objective for earning quick big bucks with little value in terms of content and over here you have been churning wonderful & helpful content years after years continuously for a decade and despite such relentless efforts being paid so less , this is evident how much passionate you are about what you do irrespective of the meagre incentive.Immense Respect for the OG passionate true creator.
Oh thank you. I am often really surprised when people tell me how much they think UA-camrs get paid. It’s really not very much actually unless you just get tons and tons and tons of views per video. I know some people make a lot of money but the average person just doesn’t. I sure appreciate it
I don’t think it happens that quick. It takes time to build subscribers and earn money.
I think it’s higher than I thought , but for a stay at home young mom with kids it would be a good hobby with some income. But lately I’m seeing a lot of utubers with a large following, building new homes, furnishing them with high end furniture so I’m thinking they are making more. I wonder how they do it.

That is so kind. I think people think that the average person makes a lot of money doing UA-cam videos. It just isn’t true. You have to have thousands and thousands of views to make money and the average person just doesn’t do it. So I hope this is helpful for people to realize that we really don’t make as much money as people think we do. So thank you.

I know you have always resisted doing sponsored videos and while that is admirable, it wouldn't offend me at all if you did some sponsorships. I'm sure many companies would love to have you as a representative. I want for you to make some decent money doing UA-cam so you won't become discouraged and quit. And you deserve it with the time you put in on your videos. I've been a subscriber for years; I'm always happy to see a post from you and I watch every video. I don't think there is anything wrong with them at all and anyone that I watched that does sponsored videos I know they wouldn't do them if they didn't believe in the product. That is a lot lower than I thought! I see many influencers on UA-cam that seem to have so much money to burn on luxuary items.
Melissa some very popular UA-camrs that I like and many of us watch, over time seem to now be commercials. I constantly feel like I’m being told to buy, buy and buy. I don’t feel that way with you, but I do wish you made more. You deserve it.

To answer your question… I thought UA-camrs must make a good amount or they wouldn’t do it full-time… but I’ve never really thought about an actual amount or heard about what any people make. I’ve followed you since you started, but now that I work 5 days a week instead of three 12hr shifts, I just don’t have time to keep up with all I used to follow. 😊 I really enjoy you and your content though, and trust your opinions, so you’re the only one I make the time to follow now. Your content has benefitted me and now my daughter, so I’m happy you’re doing it because you enjoy it.
I have seen several people share this now. Some make much more, some less. Even those who have been on the same time. But I will say a video sharing what you make will probably be one of your highest paying videos!

So many get piles of PR ~ & that truly should be counted as income, in my view, with the prices of skincare &/or makeup ~ & so many do sponsored/*partner* content. More power to them; I just click off because I don't care to be 'sold' anything. I watch videos, leave a thumbs-up & often a comment, & I often follow links, so I *do* support channels. Skincare and makeup sure is expensive isn't it? And truly I'm not unhappy about what I make. I buy products to show and Doug doesn't mind because like I said he smokes cigars, so that evens out. As long as I can make that $400 consistently every month, or around that, then I'm good to go. I have often thought I could take in like paralegal work to do at home, and I think I could make pretty good money, but I just am not interested at this point in my life. @@Melissa55 I expected it to do more; there are people who have a new video every day so I don't know how that effects the payday; there is someone who was a newscaster in our area that quit her job that now has a podcast as well as weekly video; she has 2M million viewers so I'm sure that helps; however since then she is endorsing products which gets old so I don't watch like I use to; good luck on your videos.

I noticed some large families with 9-11 kids share part of their life. The newest one is buying properties. Raising animals and trying to grow their own vegetables and showing their grocery halls . Showing us how little you can live on by making thinks from scratch.
Owning many cars and RV’s. But they don’t reveal how much they pay on property taxes,car and house insurance and so many other cost of having a big family and still can go on holidays .
I know what I need to live on . We are living frugally since we are pensioners and have no debts.
But everything cost so much more just to maintain a clean live style.
So they must make a lot of money because there pumping out many videos per week

Thank you, Rene!!! Doug and I have someone do our taxes and at the end of the year I get my earnings from Magic Links, Amazon and UA-cam and we give them to him. But I don't keep up with what I spend or anything to deduct. I think it's not enough that the IRS don't look at it much to be honest. But I do always turn it in to and we pay something on it I guess. lol. I'm sooo not an income tax person. lol. Love you!!!

There are plenty of UA-camrs that share their earnings. UA-camrs with a lot less subscribers than Melissa make thousands monthly. She doesn’t make more because she chooses not to. Very misleading the way she is presenting the topic to make people who are clearly uninformed think that you don’t make money on YT. It’s her choice that she doesn’t make money!! As long as she treats it like a hobby and not a business she will never make significant income. HER CHOICE!
At the end of the day, (I should probably say, the work day)… you’re working pretty hard to make sure you keep your promise to help your grandchildren, that’s about as selfless of an act I know of. I’m not one bit surprised though

You are just so sweet Melissa! I’ve never made a lot compared to my husband. I have my own little checking account too! It’s very special to me to be able to manage my own money. To give my grandson and children little things and donate to causes, even though it’s a small portion. It’s not about the amount it’s about how God provides just what we need at the moment along with a great dose of happiness and contentment. I was a little surprised at how low the figure was but I don't know really how it works. It does give you some personal money and I do agree you should have your own bank account. My husband and I have a "household" joint account but we each have our own personal accounts too. Thank you for being as open as you are about it. Have a great upcoming week!
