I Purchased the Absolute Black oval chain-ring however there are a number of alternatives out there which will do the same job. I went with this one because someone I trust recommended the product based on its quality, performance and its hard wearing characteristics. It's early days however so far I am really happy with my choice. I'll keep pedaling and give a long term review later in the year. Cheers everyone "Have a Great Day!" P.S look at Part 2 where I test the oval chain-ring on the trail for the first time. coming out soon....
Well done! I've had an oval on my 2020 Niner (Shimano setup) for a year and really noticed the difference cranking up short steep areas in granny gear as well as climbing in general. I just got a 2022 Tallboy and noticed right away that the assistance wasn't there with the stock ring (SRAM setup). Have an oval on order and this video nailed it! Thanks!
I could be wrong so you may want to do more research to confirm but it’s my understanding that 3mm offset is for boost setups but 6 mm is for everything else.
Hi Timshel, my GX eagle has a 3mm offset and it is a boost 148mm rear hub with a 92mm bottom bracket. As Palangi Miko said it may change with different bottom bracket and hub spacings. I found out my offset by checking with the dealer. hope this helps.
I tried putting one on my bike but the ring just makes contact with the chain stay. I assume I need a spacer on the drive side... any idea where to get those or where they go?
Hi Brett, the torque wrench is a Warren & Brown 3/8' drive. They are Australian made, the one I was using had a temporary fix using some wire to retain the pin as I loaned it out to somebody and when i got it back the retainer had gone bye bye. They are a super simple tool and really reliable. glad you enjoyed the video. Have a great day!
Hi Larry, unfortunately the offset is not stamped on the chainring. You will have to measure it as I demonstrate 2:40 into the video. I hope this helps.
@@thehumbletrail2816 Thanks but the offset on my Truvativ Stylo 6K DUB 30T is stamped on the chainring is 4mm which sucks because I have only seen 32 tooth rings in 3mm and 6mm so I am really confused and it seems I can't get a 32 tooth direct mount chainring in 4mm offset
@@LarryRichelli Hi Larry, it does seem that the three main offsets are 0mm,3mm & 6mm however i found a 30 tooth with a 4mm offset at this link www.worldwidecyclery.com/products/sram-x-sync-2-eagle-direct-mount-chainring-30t-4mm-offset-for-5-190mm-rear-hub-spacing-fat-bike-cranks. you may have to do a bit of digging by the looks of it. Good luck !
Hi Harvey, you will not need to add links as the number of teeth and circumference are the same. However if you have a chain guide you may have to put extra spacers in to allow for the oval shape.
Thank you this tutorial made it so easy.... it was my first time
Great, glad it helped you out!
i guess Im pretty off topic but does anyone know of a good website to stream new tv shows online ?
@Maverick Kaden Flixportal
@Kareem Ezra Thank you, I signed up and it seems to work =) Appreciate it !!
@Maverick Kaden you are welcome :D
Excellent video, thanks! I even used the PVC pipe on the crank trick. Couldn't have changed the chainring without this video.

Thank you, a concise and easy to follow tutorial. Much appreciated.
thanks for this! Made it SUPER easy to install my own. Bravo.

Lucky you with the Tallboy, nice ride.. hope the oval adds what you are looking for, I haven't regretted installing mine.
All good thanks for taking us through the install. 👍
Great video! Thanks. But, it's generally not recommended to use torque wrench for UNscrewing screws ;)
its recommended you use retaining compound when you put the chainring on and then grease for the torx t25 bolts
Hi, great instructional! I just wanna know what's the offset for the new oval chainring is it 6mm or 3mm?...I'm using a SRAM GX eagle 12 speed...

good now i need one
What kind of torque wrench is that? Great video.

Cool!!
Nice Guide🚵♀
Why not a square chainring, thats the next hype...
Is the offset printed on the chain ring? I am not sure what my offset is.

@@thehumbletrail2816 Thanks for the link. Yes I was able to find that same one but finding a 32 tooth I have come up with nothing. Thanks again.
I have 32t round CR if I switch to 32t Oval do i need to add more links? Thanks

What’s the pvc pipe diameter?
Hi there, the PVC pipe diameter is 42mm. Hope this helps.
@@ericshaw819 thanks
Its 54 nm not 59 nm
You should have put the clear spacer inbetween the old spacers..
