    I don’t like that they changed the actress for Maria Theresa, but her husband stayed the same. At least if both were changed, it would feel like both were older or have changed. This also goes for the second season. I just never got around to commenting. Thank you for your commitment to bringing us these clips and other the others through the past years.

      My thoughts exactly. It has just become ridiculous. Either change both in The Crown style, or change no one.

      @@Lily1127channelyeah, It is understood that the actor was not changed in the second stage of Maria Theresa because he was already older, but in the third stage they should have changed him or at least characterized him better like the actor of Suleiman in Müztezel Yuzyil (Magnificent Century).

      @@luiscarlosmotasantos729 Yeah I think it is okay that he stayed for season 2. The problem with season 2 imo was that they changed the Maria T actress. They had no reason to. There was no timejump, they didn't have to hire an older actress. Season 1 ended in 1741, season 2 started in 1741 and ended in 1743. The 20ish actress playing MT in season 1 would have been perfect to play a 20ish MT in season 2 as well.

      Well to be fair I think they do that to save the time of the audience having to read subtitles and translate into English from the historical figures native language

    For those who you ask: Francis is now the Holy Roman emperor at that moment. We are more or less in the beginning of 1760 decade or at the end of the 1750 decade.

    Who's who of the children:
    0:08 Maria Christina "Mimi"
    0:11: Maria Elisabeth
    0:13 Maria Anna
    0:16 Maria Johanna
    0:18 Joseph II
    0:20 Leopold II
    0:23 Maria Antonia (Marie Antoinette)
    0:25 Not sure which sister this is. Feel free to correct me
    Maria Amalia, Maria Josepha, and Maria Carolina, Ferdinand, and Maximillian are not shown. If the timeline is correct, then at this point Archduke Charles (the brother born between Joseph and Leopold) would have already passed away from smallpox.

    So, Austria was participating in the seven years war, that’s why Maria Theresa was talking about matrimonial arrangements, especially for Marie Antoinette, who was a little girl at that time.

      @Lily1127channel  2 місяці тому +8

      Yes and I don't like how the series doesn't mention the war they were currently fighting. MT was not just somehow obsessed with these marriages, they were a completely normal thing and very important especially in time of war. And they don't even show the Marie Antoinette thing correctly. She was not betrothed to the dauphin this young because at this time the French alliance was supposed to happen through Maria Elisabeth, who is even participating in this scene, so I don't know why they got the whole thing wrong. It was only after Maria E's illness that Marie A took the part.

      Only because she was the favorite. Maria Theresa was a terrible mother

    • @Lily1127channel
      @Lily1127channel  2 місяці тому +16

      I think this trend of saying that MT was a bad mother because she arranged dynastic marriages for her children is a kind of misogynistic thing. No one, literally no one, ever says about a male monarch that he was a bad father for arranging dynastic marriages for his children. That was a normal thing to do, every monarch did it back then without exception. So it's normal for males, but somehow not normal for females. She would have been called a fool and a sentimental stupid woman and a very bad monarch if she had not done it. No one reproaches male rulers for doing this to their children, but female rulers like MT or Isabella of Castile get this often, because I guess people would expect mothers and women to be guided more by their hearts than their minds when it comes to children. But they were RULERS, and they did not just have a few children, they had millions of "children", their subjects, who they were responsible for, it was their duty to ensure the wellbeing of their subjects, by dynastic alliances and marriages too. I don't think these women should be called terrible mothers because of these marriages for their children, since it was a completely normal, even expected thing, and literally no one ever judges the men for that, only the women.

      This movie is cooperation of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Hungary (maybe even Germany, I' m not sure). So Marie Terezie is played by an Austrian actress, so she spoke German while filming, František Štěpán is on the other hand a Czech actor, so he spoke Czech... etc. And then it was dubbed for each country individually... sorry for my poor English, but I hope you will understand me.

      @@janehollander1934 Actually, they got all Maria Theresa actresses wrong except for season 1. Maria T was a very pretty young woman, with a slim figure. She gad a kimda average figure as a young mother as well, in the 1740s. So she should not have been so full in season 2 either, she should have been played by the season 1 actress in season 2 too.
      She started to gain considerable weight in the 1750s, after so many pregnancies. So here in season 3, in the 1760s, she should be played by someone like the season 2 actress. Most of the notable paintings are from the later parts of her reign, 1760s, 1770s, that is why now everyone remembers her as a woman with fuller figure.
