If I knew what song they were going to play before he played it, I would have done the same thing. When I heard what song it was, I was laughing out loud, clapping my hands, just hysterical, especially since my sister loves this song and used to play it often.
That's the button. They'd RATHER perpetuate segregation and keep having to go through a white family's kitchen than contribute to creating a world where that song could exist un-ironically. Also, jokes are ALWAYS funnier when you explain them, so a-you're welcome!
Such a thin premise but Andrew carries it off perfectly. He brings sincerity to those deluded roles. I like that the end is Kenan saying they're going and Ego initially objecting before realizing it's a great idea.
Probably my favorite sketch of the night dismukes absolutely never miss it was so delightful batty loved his commitment with the singing and the ukelele.
This is sort of a deep-cut reference, but this sketch reminds me of the musical Purlie, where the well-intentioned hippie son of the plantation owner keeps trying to write folk songs to bring the white and black folks together on the plantation, and Helen Martin keeps responding: ".... that ain't it, honey."
If you're looking to have another "nothing special but pretty okay" song ruined for you, play Usher - Yeah and listen to the very loud and prolonged triangle that keeps repeating through the entire song.
I feel like there may be a theme of Andrew's characters being rejected by his partners/their families this season. First in the Espresso parody, and how here with Hey Soul Sister
It is the SUBLETY in this writing and yet sadly seems exaggerated but isn’t… I am white and I can laugh at myself….but I don’t worry about my 19 year old son. He is attracted to women that are different than he which is great and hopefully because he’s been raised in Hawaii kind of in between white me and being a minority as a white person. I love when I see intelligent writing and so well acted. I’m shocked by some things sometimes and I love that….shocked in a good way…like I can laugh about these serious things that actually cause me GREAT anxiety. This show is therapy for me and I dread the day it ever ends. Aloha from a long time fan…I’m 58 and have grown up on this ❤❤❤❤
The first "HEY SOUL SISTER" makes the whole dramatic build-up so worth it
I haven’t heard Soul Sister in so dang long, and I was happy to hear it on SNL tonight. Andrew Dismukes’s singing voice is great!
I agree. Andrew has a good set of pipes! 😊
Ego's little break at the beginning was hilarious.
If I knew what song they were going to play before he played it, I would have done the same thing. When I heard what song it was, I was laughing out loud, clapping my hands, just hysterical, especially since my sister loves this song and used to play it often.
I’m guessing the histrionics during the version from dress are even more animated.
That delicate little snort that crept out suggests the dress rehearsal found them all 'corpsing' big time!
IVE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS THIS FUCKING SONG IS WEIRD. I cant believe they addressed it.
🤣🤣🤣
Yes, very satisfying
Ok please explain I'm lost lol
@@xray5043soul is a black thing
thats all my knowledge
@@xray5043Let’s start with lipstick on his brain… she blew his mind…
I love how simple the premise was. It was just one joke. They all fully committed to it. And the sketch was brilliant!
All jokes aside, he can actually sing
I just said that 😅
Mexican gang make stream go
“Kenan’s look” makes every sketch 10 times funnier
Hilarious 😂
Agreed 💯
Kenan is probably the second best SNL guy ever after John Mulaney
What. He’s the sane in every. Single. Skit. How is that funny?!
It really doesn't. I hate how he does the same thing in every sketch 20 years later
Such a groundbreaking episode. This was the first time in history that someone covered anything by Train.
Impressed by his singing!!!
I don't think I ever truly listened to the lyrics to that song till now.
I knew the "hey, hey" part because that meant it was time to change the radio station.
Me either
Sadly, except for “Hey Soul Sister” and something about a “radio,” I never really tuned into what it was saying. I guess we are colordeaf-LOL.
@@jaredR207danggg😂😂😂
his parents vibing to the song sent me
She said “Sister” with that hard ‘R’ and we all felt it
So thats what Hey Soul Sister is about
Ego Nwodim looks amazing 😍
I wish I had that dress!
That 50s style really suited her and she wears pale blue beautifully - the only thing missing was a pair of dainty gloves.
“…I’m retracting my blessing” 😂😂😂
The SECOND I saw Andrew pull out that tiny Ukulele, I instantly knew this was gonna be good!!! 😂🤣😂🤣
I love it!
Excuse me, that's a normal sized ukulele.
Stop spamming the comments jesse. Past your bedtime.
But why they got to exit through the kitchen?🤣 The undertones.
Oh gosh I missed that, as in 'tradesmen's/servants' entrance'?
Or that the neighbourhood wouldn't see, or...?
That's the button.
They'd RATHER perpetuate segregation and keep having to go through a white family's kitchen than contribute to creating a world where that song could exist un-ironically.

@@Ron-Ayres The latter obviously because the brother exit from the front. Kenan got to keep his street cred untarnished.
Andrew gave me goosebumps. His vocals were on point. 👍🏻
Wow. Not easy vocals on that song. Andrew nailed it.
Such a thin premise but Andrew carries it off perfectly. He brings sincerity to those deluded roles. I like that the end is Kenan saying they're going and Ego initially objecting before realizing it's a great idea.
Hey Train. It's your cousin Marvin Train. You know that new sound you're looking for?
Well listen to this!
It's your cousin, Marvin TigerBeatMagazine!
If he’s singing about Mr. Mister he’s definitely from 1985.
10/10 reference.
Well played...😅
The way the audience was laughing before they even knew what the song was 😂
I think some of that was because he started strumming before the ukelele track started.
Probably my favorite sketch of the night dismukes absolutely never miss it was so delightful batty loved his commitment with the singing and the ukelele.
Slappin' da bassss brought them back in the end.😂
Dismuke's has the perfect voice for an early 2010's indie band 😂
Or you know, the 90's band Train. LOL just kidding around.
The song used to be one of my fave songs and i have never realized the lyrics sounded so michigan-white-boy-gangsta until now
The accuracy of the black wife effect" 😂.
"Just a little stank... Hey soul sister!" 🎸
Andrew is adorable. He's my favorite cast member at the moment ❤
Being called “Beloved soul sister” had Ego praying against interracial marriage equality 😂
The amount of times me and my friends drag this song in a week is diabolical
It’s like I’m hearing this weird ass song for the first time. Mind blown!
Ego on the verge of laugh when the ukulele came out. Also are those the real lyrics to the song??
Yep, thems the lyrics.
I wanna say the 80s were a wild time in pop (so much coke) but the song’s from 2009…
Yes
Yes 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They went from ‘we should all be able to share this love’ to ‘nah, y’all can have him’
Every time I see this living room set, I can’t help but hear Matt Foley saying, “And I live in a van down by the river.”
Chris Farley ❤
the moment ego laughed i knew this was gonna be gold @ 1:10
Yay!
That delicate little ladylike snort while fixing her face into a rictus grin! 💙🩵
Andrew Killed and everyone brought it home. That is a five star sketch. Bravo!
The hey in Kenans face is what broke me
I love Kenan and Ego's faces.😂😂
😂
This is sort of a deep-cut reference, but this sketch reminds me of the musical Purlie, where the well-intentioned hippie son of the plantation owner keeps trying to write folk songs to bring the white and black folks together on the plantation, and Helen Martin keeps responding: ".... that ain't it, honey."
Pre-song wincing nearly fatal. Hurts so good.
The way i started cackling the moment he started playing “Hey Soul Sister” 😂
I like how he literally just sang the song straight
Omg andrew's singing is great
Ego crushed this on facial expressions alone.
whoever wrote this sketch GETS MEEEEE this used to be my Anthem. watched this live and i sang every word with my boy andrew
Impressive voice btw
Love Ego!!
Who knew Andrew could sing? He's good
He can sing!!!!!!!!
dude that song was great they need to do an actual recording
Devon being Pete's twin gets me every time..
He can SİNG so impressive. His singing is so good.
It might just be two am, but I laughed by butt off . More Ego centric sketches please. She is the the best.
This guy actually has a really great voice!!!
And to sing live while acting and moving about and getting all the lines right. Andrew Dismukes is a fabulous cast member.
That 5 string bass guitar at the end was sharp looking…
The white parents being into it kills me 🤣.
Dudes best sketch ever...
Both ego and now chloe almost broke character 🤣.
He can sing! 😂
SNL writers are on point tonight 🥹👏👏👏👏👏
This is so funny. I laughed so hard at this 😭😂😂
who wrote this sketch, I love soul sister so much it gave such 2010 energy! we needed this thank you for reminding everyone this iconic cute song
Er... r/whoosh?
I love him since Joker sketch. He’s soooo underrated
I climbed through the wrong window 😢😢
Wow definitely didn’t expect this one… Great ending and nice singing
excellent sketch all around. love kenan's "Hmmm" after the singing was done lol
Not bad for the first sketch of the night so far.
Love Dismukes! Guy is hilarious!
I feel like everyone has had these exact thoughts on Hey, Soul Sister at some point but never the courage to voice any opinion about it...until now.
Keenan’s expressions 😂🤣😂🤣
If you're looking to have another "nothing special but pretty okay" song ruined for you, play Usher - Yeah and listen to the very loud and prolonged triangle that keeps repeating through the entire song.
So fun! My aunt unalived herself when she was 14 for catching backlash over this issue. Glad to see such a hilarious take on the subject.
Wow, where has he been hiding that singing voice?
Favorite sketch of the season
I love Andrew Dismukes so much
Best sketch of the night without a doubt
Train 😂will die when they watch this sketch!!!! 🎉😂😂😂❤ Love it.
Kenan Thompson having a Giuliani moment here, with dye dripping down his cheek?
I feel like there may be a theme of Andrew's characters being rejected by his partners/their families this season. First in the Espresso parody, and how here with Hey Soul Sister
What's with Keenan's Giuliani leak? Lol
They have cards for the song 🤣
All hail Andrew Dismukes.
I was singing along when I realized what the song really is
What is it??
Keenan's face at 3:20 - LMFAO my thoughts exactly. Enough said.
he did a fire job on that for real lol
Wow. Came here for the sketch, stayed for the Andrew's singing. Amazing performance 😮
Dammmmm Andrew 👏👏👏
STOP THE TRAIN
its weird but lots of songs are weird its also fun and catchy
Love kenan!
As soon as I saw the ukulele, I knew exactly what song he was gonna play
Ok, everybody, we’re just to exit through the kitchen…😅😅🤣
Andrew Dismukes has some good pipes....Check him out.
Andrew coming for Domingo wiznwjsj I love his singing
love this bc Train is cringe
Yes. If there is a hell, I'm convinced that Train provides the 24/7 soundtrack.

Whaaaa? They all slapping on this song but I don't know why?
"Hmm"
Funny how when the bass kicks in they come back and start dancin'. Ain't a soul song without that bass line......
