This music is so perfect. It embodies the chaos, energy and urgency of the Queen's castle so well. I also love how the music doesn't change for battles that occur in the castle, similar to in Undertale's CORE. May be my favorite track from Chapter 2.
Spoiler of a super secret thing: The biggest penalty of doing Snowgrave isn't any of the emotional damage, or the super hard boss, or anything like that. It's the fact that you can't listen to this AMAZING SONG
love the sheer difference in tone between King and Queen. King is very disturbing, selfish, and a through-and-through tyrant with very little redeeming qualities. There is no humor associated with him aside from one specific joke if Ralsei pacifies him. He refuses to leave his castle and has to be approached directly to even be encountered at all. He is hated by everyone and taken dead seriously by the story, and he makes no attempt to pretend or beat around the bush. He wants you dead, and does not care about the fact that that means he will have to murder children as a result. This is reflected incredibly well in his area, Card Castle. Card Castle is a very minimalistic, but intimidating "final fortress" level with very little actual danger. There's not very many traps, and the enemies are easy to deal with. Aside from the damn near impossible puzzles that you practically need a guide to beat who were probably made by someone who's both incredibly smart AND handsome, the optional fight against The Free Prisoner and the mandatory rematch against K. Round, it's pretty much a straight shot to the King. The music reflects this as well, being a toned down, 8 bit remix of Chaos King. Queen is a very obsessive and controlling, but ultimately good-hearted leader with many redeeming qualities shown throughout Chapter 2. She is a major source of humorous moments in Chapter 2, and is repeatedly encountered over and over again throughout the chapter, often pulling off a really funny joke at the end as well. Despite the fact that she is trying to open more dark fountains, is pretty smothering of the people she cares about, and is overall pretty weird, she's not really disliked or hated by anyone aside from Cap'n and Spamton. She also explicitly cares greatly about the lighteners in the Cyber World, and is actually acting in what she believes to be their best interest based off their internet searches. But still, even though she's wacky and silly and cares about the protagonists, she's still so much more threatening and dangerous than King ever was. This is equally reflected in her area, Queen's Mansion. Aside from the prison area and hub where Swatch works, the entire mansion is a manic and frantic chase through a palace of total chaos. The paintings breathe fire, the paths are winding and strange, Toby Fox himself helps you progress through Floor 3, and the place is beautifully and lovingly decorated. This music could not be more fitting, being a frantic but energetic and fun track that plays as you, Kris, Susie, and Ralsei race to the top to rescue Noelle, and put a stop to Queen's ill-fated plan, once and for all.
something something good intentions and the road to hell. also she's a computer, so she's more powerful than a chess piece/playing card guy. also she's harnessing her wine mom powers.
you didn't even talk about the enemy encounters in queens mansion, from the random and goofy swatchlings, to a random mini boss thrown into the middle with tasque manager and the myce, and the sudden and sole appearance of the werewerewire, which can give you a run for your money if it's your first playthrough
agreed, it's just so cool especially since it's not used much and is usually saved for important areas allowing me to hear more of your good song during gameplay is never unappreciated
The fast pace of racing through the mansion to stop Queen, bumping into minibosses along the way while this track BOPS in the background... I love the intense contrast between this high-spirited segment and the grim, dour Card Castle from Chapter 1.
I like how there aren't any pauses in the music, you can always here something I think it suits the palace really well, because remember, it is a place fueled by the Internet, a place where there is always someone active So the lack of pause and silence is a really clever and interesting choice
Can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that Queen DOES in fact ACTUALLY have a nicer water bottle than the one in King's cell, and you can find it in her mansion right after the Toby Dog table sequence.
