    It's the best video yet. Drums are one of the hardest instruments to learn because of the physical aspect of training all four limbs to do things at will. It just takes time. Personally, I do think you can be a good drummer. For most of us drummers out here, drumming is more than just a hobby. It's a passion. I think you can connect with me on this statement because of your musical background with another instrument.
    Also, it's good to just walk away from the instrument for a few days, giving yourself time to think about what you want to achieve and run stuff through your head. You can push yourself in a rut because you burn yourself out. My opinion only. Everyone learns at a different pace. I tell my students to practice at least 4 times a week. At a minimum of 20 minutes and a maximum of an hour, this all depends on the student. Also, again, everybody learns at a different pace.
    Discipline yourself and take baby steps. And you will achieve your goals at a much faster rate.
    I have faith in you, and you are doing this. I've been with you since day one, and I will be here to the end. You are doing just fine, my friend. Keep up the good work, but please take a break, think, and then do.

      Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! It has been an awesome experience learning the drums so far and I can’t wait to keep learning and improving no matter what that looks like

      @connorsousa7448 learn for yourself, not us. I'm just here to give a little advice. We all have different options that let's you sort thru what works for you. In the beginning, I thought this was just another BS video. Now I know that you are the real deal. Keep going and never look back.

      That's awesome and complete facts. I'm still in college and in a band, currently we have entered heats, passed heats, entered regional finals, and come first place for regional finals in a band competition. Even though I've done all these cool things I'm still learning tons of awesome things every day and it's drummers like you who just keep at it that really inspire other people.

    Dude I love this video, I started 6 months ago, played guitar and recorded music for 15+ years and finally said you know what it’s time to learn drums. I bought an electric kit so that I could practice everyday and not worry about noise complaints. I told myself I was gonna play everyday for a year and just see where I am at and decide if I will continue, my improvement has been insane, doing pad work every day for 1-2 hours then playing on the kit. My biggest advice for most people is just give it 30-60 days, you are going to be terrible, drums are extremely hard. But if you keep putting in the work you will see improvement and as you get better the improvement comes faster. Great video bro!

    Cool video, I just started 4 weeks ago. I found an instructor, bought a cheap acoustic kit (bad idea), and will upgrade as I progress. Hardest thing for me right now is playing kick and hi hat with the snare and synching all those up. But getting there.

    Good work and attitude. I started taking drum lessons at age six, in 1952, since then have played a zillion gigs, as well as concert and marching band and community orchestra, etc. I still play here at home but not in public anymore.
    Anyway, as a hopefully helpful comment, there are books by Paul Capozolli called 'around the drums with triplets,..... paradiddles, ......open rolls', etc. which helped me a lot in my younger days. When you get comfy roaming on the toms, you might check these out They really help with fills. I see some for sale out there

    Awesome video and awesome journey man! I think one of the toughest things is the consistency. You wanted to give up on Day 3-4, were there days after that where maybe you didn't want to give up, but you just didn't want to do anything that day? How did you overcome those feelings?

    • @connorsousa7448
      @connorsousa7448  Місяць тому +2

      Definitely!! There were days where I had to force myself to practice despite wanting to do anything else. What helped me most was just the bigger picture of knowing what I’m working towards and what practicing everyday achieves.

    6:59 I'm 6 months into learning. I knew it would be difficult but damn man, this is way more difficult than I thought. Granted I haven't had steady time to practice lately but I'm learning now you really have to be super committed to practicing often if you ever want to be a somewhat good drummer. I'm in my 40's and I'm just doing it for the fun of it. I really wish I would've started earlier but oh well. I might not become an awesome drummer but everyday I'm getting better and that's all that matters. And I should add, my whole life I always thought I'd be a good drummer if I tried. Now that I'm trying, I'm really wondering why I ever thought that lol. It's weird for me sometimes too. I'll be at the kit practicing something new and really struggling. So I'll walk away from the kit. The next day I'll sit down and it'll just click. It's like my brain finally learned it overnight. Call me crazy but it's happened a few times. I'm at the end of the video. Sorry for the long comment but if you're only 40 days in I must really suck haha. I didn't try playing my first song until I was 3 months in. And I haven't even tried any rudiments yet 😕 I can play 1 song (well not perfectly tho) and that's Anthem for the year 2000 by Silverchair. I'm working on Let her go by Passenger but there's some tricky parts in there. It's an easy song but the opening and closing the hi hat gets me confused.

      You don’t suck man everyone learns at different paces! There’s still a lot of things I struggle with and in videos like these you usually only see my best takes. There’s a lot of failure that I edit out for time too

    Classic beginner thinking. Why cant i play this? It is a bunch of simply strikes. If you do not put in the time and give your brain time to assimilate what you are attempting to do, then you wont do it. These are mechanical skills and some repitiion is needed.

      @@jmbozigian Sometimes you just want to throw the sticks through the window. It is indeed a very difficult intrument to learn to play. It seems easy when you see it doing until you try yourself.
