Reba is a consummate performer! Got to see her in 1994, and it blew me away how well she connected with the audience throughout. i’m only a partial country fan but a huge Reba fan.
I was thinking the same thing when I watched this. I’ve never sat down and listened to a word for word comparison of the two versions but I listened to both versions more than once and didn’t think that Bobby Gentry’s original version varied much at all from Reba’s.
Even the videos of her live performances don't do actually being there enough service. Was lucky enough to see Reba in a concert and she made sure everyone had fun

She has a cover of "Cathy's Clown" and so many other songs SHe's a petite lady powerhouse as it seems many are. Martina McBride is another that comes to mind. Little ladies with huge voices.

Even though it was written by the great storytelling singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry, Reba made it her own. That red dress made such an impact that people are still talking about to this day. I have seen Reba in concert 7 times and she is amazing. If you ever get the chance to see her in concert you need to go. The song is better in person than hearing it over youtube or the album. Nothing wrong with the album but i like hearing it live. Please do go and see her live its much better live.
