I was thinking the same thing when I watched this. I’ve never sat down and listened to a word for word comparison of the two versions but I listened to both versions more than once and didn’t think that Bobby Gentry’s original version varied much at all from Reba’s.
The official video will also give you chills. So much of her singing style is her natural Oklahoma accent, with a southern drawl. Even though it was written by the great storytelling singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry, Reba made it her own. That red dress made such an impact that people are still talking about to this day. BTW: With your red hair you'd look great in that dress too, Beth.
"So much of her singing style is her natural Oklahoma accent, with a southern drawl." I was going to say the same thing, That's not style or technique, That's just Reba...😁
Reba is a consummate performer! Got to see her in 1994, and it blew me away how well she connected with the audience throughout. i’m only a partial country fan but a huge Reba fan.
Reba McEntire is another legendary talent from my home state Oklahoma, USA. Makes me proud to be an Okie with all the amazing artist we have in not just country music but all genres of music and acting.
Even the videos of her live performances don't do actually being there enough service. Was lucky enough to see Reba in a concert and she made sure everyone had fun
dude..finally, not the best video to hear her voice but I'm glad you understand how much additional effort it took to sing while basically acting the entire time, haha she's one of the few that come close to Dolly in talent, she's a phenom, multi-talented, did rodeo, had a hit tv show and films, has amazing duets, her music videos are some of the best out there, like mini-movies..it's crazy you gotta see her on stage singing with martina mcbride and a few others "On My Own", reba refuses to ever be outstaged, a very unique singer, she does everything with her voice, no one sings like she does
Thank you for highlighting her vocal talent & skill! I think too often her celebrity & presence overshadows her vocal ability especially at her peak! Shes the QUEEN for a reason!!!
I saw Reba in the 90s. She changed outfits after every song, it seemed. She has such an incredible voice. "The Greatest Man I never Knew" is probably my favorite, but she had so many good ones.
Reba is fun. She also did some acting in a television series and was a very funny edition to the first Tremors movie that you should check out when you have time.
Country might not be my go-to style of music, but I’m the first to admit there are some *god-tier* performers in the genre. Reba is one of them. Queen just isn’t good enough. I loved your reaction to this Beth - your face even more than your words! BTW, am awaiting your next release on Spotify. I *loved* Wicked Game and can’t wait to hear you sing more.
Great choice with Reba!!! She's a legend! If you decide to do more country, I've been harassing all my reactors to check out Sugarland. Jennifer Nettles is one of favorite country voices!! See ya next time, Beth!! 💚💜
Bobby Gentry wrote "Fancy" and these are the original lyrics. I don't think that Reba changed the lyrics to the song when she covered it. "But I couldn't see spendin' the rest of my life With my head hung down in shame. You know I mighta been born just plain white trash. But Fancy was my name."
She has had a long career in Country Music as well as on television with a couple of sitcoms. Perhaps listening to some other songs she has recorded would be something you can do in the future. She has a cover of "Cathy's Clown" and so many other songs SHe's a petite lady powerhouse as it seems many are. Martina McBride is another that comes to mind. Little ladies with huge voices.

Absolutely legendary performance by an absolute legend. Reba is very likely the single greatest female vocalist in country music history. Quite literally the female counterpart (The Queen) to George Strait (The King)
The official video is like a little motion picture starring Reba as Fancy. It’s quite moving and haunting. 😊She’s wearing the outfit from the video. Written by Bobby Gentry who also wrote and sang The Ballad of Billy Joe. She’s going to be a coach on the next season of The Voice!
Bobbie Gentry wrote this song and the “plain white trash, Fancy was my name” lyric is in the original. Edit to add a link to a live version of the original, which I prefer, I think Bobbie’s voice fits the song better. ua-cam.com/video/VUjNbeAFal8/v-deo.html
This is a cover of the beautiful singer songwriter, Bobby Gentry which is a more folksy version but that was popular in the late 60's-70's. I really like bobby Gentry's version as well.
I have seen Reba in concert 7 times and she is amazing. If you ever get the chance to see her in concert you need to go. The song is better in person than hearing it over youtube or the album. Nothing wrong with the album but i like hearing it live. Please do go and see her live its much better live.
If I recall correctly. Her big break, and I mean her discovery, came pretty early when she was still just a teenager. She was singing the national anthem at a rodeo and impressed the right people.
Bobbie Gentry is the original singer for this song she wrote it, and it was about her life. she came out with it in the 60s or 70s. And I love how Reba sing it she didn't change nothing.
I worked for John Paneil who heard her singing out the back of an old station wagon with a horse trailer attached, he said when her family showed up you know you already lost and should have just given the money then..😅
I'd love to see your reaxtion to Emmy Lou Harris. She has the voice of an angel. Her performance of Pancho & Lefty at the Whistlestop is one of my favorites. I saw her perform in a small venue in the 80's. She sounded exactly like her albums.
The Queen of Country? Depends on who you ask. Reba? Dolly? Loretta? For my money the Queen is still Patsy Cline (and Bob Wills is still the King of Western Swing!). That said Reba is great, no doubt about it.
Reba has always been one of the best. Beth if you’re looking for some more unique country voices, may I recommend George Jones, Merle Haggard, and boxcar Willie.
I have never been to a Reba show but jf you have watched the award shows where she is a host or co-host you will notice she changes clothes a lot. She does even more so when she is concert.
Hello Beth, Can you please react to *Iniko* please? Her Jericho or The King’s Affirmation are my favourites. I am sure lots of your subscribers would love to see you break down Iniko's techniques.
Hi Beth, I would really appreciate if you could analyze Tom Waits's first vocal style in "Martha" or "I hope that I don't fall in love with you". (Greetings from Italy)
Reba is also a fine actress. She replaced Bernadette Peters in the 1999 revival of _Annie Get Your Gun._ Sadly there are only a few bootleg videos of her performance. Here she is singing "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun." ua-cam.com/video/OUoIgBNjAHo/v-deo.html
Ya know I might have been born plain white trash , BUT FANCY WAS MY NAME! Is a hell of a line. Reba was born into a ranching /rodeo / music family , not poverty.'Oklahoma accent.
Reba Mcentire just did amazing with the National Anthem at the Superbowl!
This is Reba at the height of her powers. Absolute queen mode at this point.
I LOVE Reba! She's such a good singer, but she's also so stinkin' sassy. Gotta love that attitude!
I can't wait to show my mom your reaction. She was at this exact concert.
Thanks Beth. It's always great to see a reactor as impressed with an artist as the rest of us music lovers are with Reba.
One thing I’ve learned about Reba after many karaoke nights, her songs are harder than they sound.
Reba didn't rewrite or change the words, they're exactly as Bobbie Gentry sang them in 1969.
I was thinking the same thing when I watched this. I’ve never sat down and listened to a word for word comparison of the two versions but I listened to both versions more than once and didn’t think that Bobby Gentry’s original version varied much at all from Reba’s.
The Year l Was Born February 23rd 1969

I was going to say the same thing, That's not style or technique, That's just Reba...😁
I have seen her 4 times she puts on a good show
“Does he love you”, the duet she did with Linda Davis is also a stunner. I believe Linda is the back up singer on the left.
I would die for her to do the live of her and linda
I believe this as well. Her daughter is the lead singer for Lady A.
Incredible duet
Reba is a consummate performer! Got to see her in 1994, and it blew me away how well she connected with the audience throughout. i’m only a partial country fan but a huge Reba fan.
Such a wonderful singer, Reba is country royalty,
Reba McEntire is another legendary talent from my home state Oklahoma, USA. Makes me proud to be an Okie with all the amazing artist we have in not just country music but all genres of music and acting.
Hey, another Okla-homie!
I was there that night and it was an unbelievable concert! Love her!
Best Concert I ever attended was Reba back in the '90s in what was then the Worcester (Ma.) Centrum. Unbelievable show ... Unbelievable talent !!!
Even the videos of her live performances don't do actually being there enough service. Was lucky enough to see Reba in a concert and she made sure everyone had fun
Reba is one of the greatest female vocalists in history

Reba is one of the queens of Country. I get to see her in the front row and at one point she stood right in front of me.
Just thinking to myself you should do this song!! And to my surprise 😊 Great reaction
Reba's stage shows were legendary! Always well produced and rehearsed. But, she kept it all fun for the audience.
I’ve seen Reba 3 times in concert. Absolutely amazing. Legend and GOAT status!
Thank you for highlighting her vocal talent & skill! I think too often her celebrity & presence overshadows her vocal ability especially at her peak! Shes the QUEEN for a reason!!!
She made an iconic video of this and she’s recreating it here.
I saw Reba in the 90s. She changed outfits after every song, it seemed. She has such an incredible voice. "The Greatest Man I never Knew" is probably my favorite, but she had so many good ones.
The queen of country music love you 💕 Reba McEntire 😇🙏💖😘🥰❤️
If George Strait is the King of Country, Reba's definitely the Queen.
Reba is fun. She also did some acting in a television series and was a very funny edition to the first Tremors movie that you should check out when you have time.
Cheers Beth, that was wonderful.
THE infamous red dress makes a comeback... ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Check out Does He Love You with Linda Davis for the first appearance...in 1993...

Saw this tour. Such a great memory!
The true Queen of country in my opinion. The energy, her voice.. the entire package.
Anyone else from Omaha remember the Civic Auditorium? Lots of memories in that place before the CHI Center.
Great choice with Reba!!! She's a legend!
If you decide to do more country, I've been harassing all my reactors to check out Sugarland. Jennifer Nettles is one of favorite country voices!!
See ya next time, Beth!! 💚💜
Please please do Jennifer❤ there’s a real interesting video to the song Run

omg, i'm so happy about this video! I love reba! 💕
Absolutely legendary performance by an absolute legend. Reba is very likely the single greatest female vocalist in country music history. Quite literally the female counterpart (The Queen) to George Strait (The King)
We fans is here, Miss! Gotta love them gingers!🤠
Absolutely gorgeous with your long flaming red hair and shining eyes! Excellent reaction to a Reba hit single! Stay beautiful!
Just a handful of artists can go by one name. Reba is one of them.
She wore that first outfit in the music video...love her!
The official video is like a little motion picture starring Reba as Fancy. It’s quite moving and haunting. 😊She’s wearing the outfit from the video.

Gotta love a singer with a full head of red hair ♥
"You Lie" is a great demonstration of Reba's voice.
This is a cover of the beautiful singer songwriter, Bobby Gentry which is a more folksy version but that was popular in the late 60's-70's. I really like bobby Gentry's version as well.

If I recall correctly. Her big break, and I mean her discovery, came pretty early when she was still just a teenager. She was singing the national anthem at a rodeo and impressed the right people.
I love Reba but I also love Faith Hill and Dolly Parton. Plus so many others. Thank you.
You need to look at and analyze her 1990 live performance of “You Lie”, which is my favorite song by her! Her control is just crazy.
Bobbie Gentry is the original singer for this song she wrote it, and it was about her life. she came out with it in the 60s or 70s. And I love how Reba sing it she didn't change nothing.
Nice job! Great reaction ✨⚡
Wow una gran voz y una cantante hermosa 👏👏🍀🍀
I worked for John Paneil who heard her singing out the back of an old station wagon with a horse trailer attached, he said when her family showed up you know you already lost and should have just given the money then..😅
Reba didn’t change the words though. She sang it just like Bobby Gentry wrote it.

Me! me!!! Yay, REBA!!!
I recommend two of the best singers in japan in the 80~90~: Gackt (from Malice Mizer) and Hideki Saijo - Lola [傷だらけのローラ]
The backup singers make this tune!
She's from Oklahoma Beth.....as country as country comes in her speech and voice.
And Waylen Jennings, 'Amanda'.
@@davidleatherneck can’t believe I forgot him.
I have never been to a Reba show but jf you have watched the award shows where she is a host or co-host you will notice she changes clothes a lot. She does even more so when she is concert.
Listen to “Coat of Many Colors” by Dolly Parton. First time hearing her was in a small town rodeo, she wasn’t barrel racing anymore
Yeassss queeen
when you get a chance, you should check out Termina, their song Take Flight would be great for a vocal analysis of Andy Cizek's range.
Actually the white trash line is from the original, she changed "You better stay sleeping uptown" to "Your momma's gonna move you up town"
Metal my whole life and I’m 53
I thought all red heads knew each other
Beth, it seems you have the wrong links in the description; appears to be pointing to Eva Cassidy. Just thought you should know.
REBA IS FROM OKLAHOMA AND THIS IS HER NATURAL ACCENT... LISTEN TO HER SPEAKING VOICE
Martina McBride for country. Independence Day is her biggest hit
She was in the first Tremors movie.
You should listen to the Bobbie Gentry version.
More country, more country 😁
Hello Beth, Can you please react to *Iniko* please? Her Jericho or The King’s Affirmation are my favourites. I am sure lots of your subscribers would love to see you break down Iniko's techniques.
Watch the video and you'll understand the black outfit she wore on stage.
Hi Beth, I would really appreciate if you could analyze Tom Waits's first vocal style in "Martha" or "I hope that I don't fall in love with you". (Greetings from Italy)
Hey Beth can you please react Céline Dion taking chances live in Boston 2008 love ❤ your videos keep up the great work
Reba is also a fine actress. She replaced Bernadette Peters in the 1999 revival of _Annie Get Your Gun._ Sadly there are only a few bootleg videos of her performance. Here she is singing "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun."

you're still my fav ginger
I love Reba but the Queen of Country is and always be Patsy Cline. Thank you
Ya know I might have been born plain white trash , BUT FANCY WAS MY NAME! Is a hell of a line.
Reba was born into a ranching /rodeo / music family , not poverty.'Oklahoma accent.
She is Reba... nothing else need be said.
Big fan of Bobbie Gentry
Please reaction Avenged sevenfold - Seize the day (Live at LBC) ❤
I hope you know this wasn't 1969.. truly.. this was the 1980;s
You should do a reaction to Johnny cash
This was made in 1990 not 1969 as you stated at the 1:31 mark.
She said it was written in 69. It was a Bobbie Gentry song
Reba did not change any lyrics to this song. They are the same as the orignal.
Can you react to "Sertab Erener-Aşk" please.
5:35 ...About her? You know Reba's name is Reba, right?
Reba did not change the words
