    That Lt 386 is very dark sounding. I really liked that JZ mic on your voice. That Atlantis is pretty sweet too!

      The Eden does well with EQ and I like the fact that there’s still body in every voicing.

    Man, was just watching this again, and thinking how awesome the Mojave M201 Fet sounds. I literally passed on one for a few hundred dollars last year. I'm kicking myself now haha!

      I definitely concur. At its price point, the build quality, sonic performance and how it handles processing makes this mic punch higher than typically perceived. I know it’s a cardioid only mic but most applications fit this polar pattern.

    Wow man, that Dachman really stood out, primarily for how close to a U87 it sounds. Really compliments your voice in the mix. Are you a big fan of it yourself? I had never heard of them.

      Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. Dachman Audio did an AWESOME job in my opinion of their take on a u87. I know clones are a mixed bag of feelings these days but I feel like they nailed the utilitarian nature of a u87.
      I had been following them for sometime and decided to pull the trigger. I was not disappointed at all.

    Carl!!! And Carl Jr haha I hope you have been doing well man! I feel like most of what I am hearing is a difference in the capsules/frequency response of each mic and less of a difference between tube vs fet. I initially thought the tube mics had a nice "bloom" in the low mids that added some nice weight so my thought is okay tubes help the midrange and give a pleasing character. Then I heard the LA-320 and was like oh nope! This is very crispy and a bit thinner so now the TLM49 has a midrange bloom and pleasing sound. So idk... that's where i'm at right now. To my ears, not a huge night and day difference between tube and fet mics on quieter sources like vocals (might have different results on louder sources), and differences are more in the capsule design, frequency response, and proximity to the source.
    Thanks for the vid man!

      Bro! I’m always grateful for your contribution to the channel!
      I see the validity in your perspective. The LA320 is much leaner than naturally expected but I think that goes to show how saturation impacts both the low and top end. I would certainly add that 320
      to a source that I need more top end on before pulling out an EQ of some sorts. The modded wa8000 is balanced to me, especially in comparison to the stock voicing. It also takes processing well.
      I try to stay neutral on processing in the series due to subjectivity so it is hard to hear the impact on the more dynamic performances but I wanted to try to represent where things would be in real world scenarios before post treatment.
      I appreciate your support bro!!! Looking forward to your next video!

    • @subtonic24
      @subtonic24 Рік тому

      @@CarlMooreMusic Yea that is true about the saturation. And another thing I noticed just from personal experience is that tube mics usually sound a bit slower and smoothed out in the transient response which I assume is also due to the saturation.
      The modded WA8000 was actually pretty nice! I was never a fan of the stock sound. You definitely gotta do a full review of it at some point! I still think the CX12 and WA47 are probably Warm's 2 best mics in their line up. That LT386 sounds amazing. My favorite out of all the mics.
      You're welcome bro, and thank you!!!

    Omg that LT386 on foward mode is so yummy on your voice and that track. The WA-251 was sitting really nicely in the mix to. The MA 201 is nice, maybe a bit crisp , I was also really suprised by the WA-CX12 and the LT387.

    • @CarlMooreMusic
      @CarlMooreMusic  Рік тому +1

      I feel like the Forward mode on the LT386 is still crisp and present but has more girth to it than the Forward mode on the FC387…. At least for my voice and these source examples.
      I typically don’t record without out EQ and compression to achieve the tonal goal I’m going for. I refrain from using it in these examples but if I were using the 201 Fet as a final Vox (which I definitely would) I’d have to add some EQ to tame a bit of the top end and add some weight where necessary but I like the mic for dull/darker sources.
      I think the cx12 is warms best and most balanced mic thus far 8?3 heDd good things about the wa47-F so I need to get my hands on one but I dig the cx12.
      I’ve heard complaints about the self noise but it’s easily workable for me.

      @@CarlMooreMusic awesome, i feel the same about the 201 fet, I think my voice as some similar tone with yours, i wish those lauten where in my budget HAHAHA. I had a wa-87 in the past and wasnt that impressed by it and chaged it for a tlm103. But i would really like to test those cx12 and wa-251.

    Interesting! 😉In your opinion, would you recommend Sony-c80, Avantone CV12 BLA, LA-320 V2 or WA251?

    • @CarlMooreMusic
      @CarlMooreMusic  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. I’ve never had the opportunity to us the c-80, but I own the other mics you’ve mentioned. I think it depends on what you’re going for totally. The cv12 BLA has a balanced tone across the board. There’s definitely tube saturation but in comparison to the la320 v2 and the wa251, I feel like it captures the sources a little more accurate to the original source.
      The wa251 to me is hyped up top and provides some low end. It’s brighter than the other mics you’ve mentioned.
      The LA320 v2 has more body than it’s original version. I really like the improvement and I think it makes it much more usable among multiple sources.
      The lack of multiple polar patterns on the LA320 v2 would rule it out if you needed that. However you can get the job done with either mic honestly. The question is what tone are you looking for?
