      For this bear hunt I had to set ups with me. Both using the 1.25” VPA 3 blade. One set up used 175 grain heads and the other was 250 grain. I shot the bear with a 54@29 Schafer Silvertip. Arrow was around 700 grains with the 250 grain VPA 3 blade.

      That bear had to live such an unfortunate painful life. Super unfortunate.

    a collar, are you sure it wasn't someones pet?

    • @SchaferMagnant
      @SchaferMagnant  Рік тому

      Two things, at the end of the video it shows that it’s actually an irrigation gasket of some sort that had been stuck around it’s neck for a long time causing extreme issues to the bears overall well being.
      Secondly I don’t believe it’s legal to have a bear as a pet, so that thought is not one that would likely cross someone’s mind from a logical standpoint.
      The most likely scenario if it had been truly collared, would be that the Wildlife biologist put the collar on to track the bear and to learn more.

      Thanks!! It certainly was a great time!! I have shot it a bit here and there. Still have it. It bothers my shoulder a bit when I shoot it because of how aggressive the grip is unfortunately.

      We all came to the conclusion that it was some sort of pipe adapter or insert that must have been there since he was a cub.

      6" irrigation pipe gasket, likely stuck his head in the end of a pipe as a curious cub & grew up with it.

      Don’t disagree. There was 3 bears down that night. Unfortunately where the video ended, things got pretty quick trying to get everything processed, and where it needed to be before super late in the night.

    Those bears have all been on edge, they can smell human scent and know something isn't right. The one bear bolted out of there, did he see you in that stand? Ironically you shot the tamest one, the one that was tagged and has been around humans a lot more by it's actions. Congrats either way.

    • @SchaferMagnant
      @SchaferMagnant  Рік тому

      The wind swirled on the one that darted out of there. The one I shot actually wasn’t collared. It had a pipe fitting or something of that nature stuck around its neck from its early years as a cub.

    You shot a pet bear you clown - it had a collar on!

    • @SchaferMagnant
      @SchaferMagnant  Рік тому

      I’ve never heard of a pet bear before myself. Would be interesting if it were legal. The collar ended up being a irrigation pipe fitting that had gotten stuck on its neck. I’m sure it would have preferred dying from the severe infection that had started from the “collar” tearing into its own flesh.

      @@SchaferMagnant Oops - sorry dude, my bad. I didn't watch the rest of the video to find out the facts, I just shot through when I saw the 'collar'. Keep up the good work!

    Great shot and video work! I listen to the podcast, and have been wondering all week how your hunt was going. Did your dad end up getting a bear as well? Thanks for getting the video out so quick can’t wait for the hunt recap on the podcast. You better hunt for bears this September with that 5 dollar tag in Vermont . Haha
