SpongeBob did start off very well! Especially if you include the B- and C-segments to the first episode.
The A-episode gives a really good impression of the overall concept of the show and the main characters. The B-episode focuses on the relationship between SpongeBob and Squidward and the C-episode introduces Sandy very well and takes the time to develop Patrick's character.
The only criticism i have is that we don't find out much about Mr. Krabs as a character. But introducing five characters within 20 minutes while telling three different storys is almost impossible.

That “Living in Sunlight” montage is just classic. Probably the best scene in this pilot to shows exactly what this character is about. He’s jolly, he’s carefree, he has a childish wonder to him, and he loves his and is incredibly skilled in his craft. A great starting point for the little poriferan.
Spongebob is so cute & eager in this episode!
I miss those small smiles of him & the innocent expressions which are so simple & powerful.
There's magic to the first episode of old cartoons that can't ever be replaced :')

I know its 2020 and I didnt check the hashtag, but I wasnt ready for that ALS portion at the end. My mother had ALS for 5 years before she passed away due to lung failure brought on from said disease. It's wonderful to know that someone who's content I really enjoy did the research on it and donated so much money to the foundation. If the high quality of your videos didn't make me absolutely adore this channel, that certainly did, thank you for everything

it's A bit rougher around the edges than the rest of season one but it is a great episode. Hope Stephen Hillenburg at least lives to see the 3rd movie.

Double upload is very welcomed. I was born in 1999 but I remember these episodes so fondly. I even bought and still watch the season DVD’s. It makes me (sort of) emotional to know that it is almost 20 years old. To know a show that has been so near and dear to me is as old as I am, is truly amazing. And though some episodes are not great, I still appreciate that it’s been going for so long. Hopefully, for many more years and many more good episodes.
Man this little sponge sure has come a long way since its humble beginnings. A lot of ups and and a lot of downs but one thing for sure, spongebob has become one of the most iconic cartoon characters 🖒

Great review, I kinda forgot how much SpongeBob has changed since it first debuted. I also miss the underwater aspect, and how Mr. Krabs kinda acted more like a pirate, (I actually remember an episode where I think they were trying to trick Mr. Krabs dad into thinking the Krusty Krab was a pirate ship lolol) anyway, this review brought back good memories, and makes me feel old lolol
Spongebob will always have a special place in my heart for being one of my favorite shows growing up even buying the video games. I always found the first episode interesting so it's nice to see a video on it! Keep up the good work!

Also Spongebob getting cold feet is a very relatable thing. I kind of miss the more grounded Spongebob when they acted a lot more like real people.

19 years ago SpongeBob premiered. 9 years ago I made a review of the absolute slap to the face that was Truth or Square (the 10th anniversary TV movie). The fact I've been making internet content for 40% of my life is starting to sink in.
SpongeBob definitely started off well; not only was/is it a critical and popular success, it also made a lot of small children a lot of good ideas and Aesops. It was my childhood but when I watch it I don't get nostalgic, I get happy.

I was born a week or two before the first spongebob episode aired. Spongebob has always been one of my favorite childhood shows. It's funny to think that spongebob is the same age as I am. I hope Stephen hillenberg is able to create more amazing stuff. I hope he doesn't suffer and he remains happy. I'm so sorry he's sick
I love Patrick's line of " who's A big yellow sponge with holes!" On the surface it can be encouraging, but I also like to think he ran out of encouraging things to say, which really shows he isn't stupid like later Patrick, just not as bright.

I like how Patrick and Spongebob grew up together, as some episodes state, and *THIS ONE* even backs that fact UP, basically making them brothers; though this just makes how Patrick treats Spongebob in the bad episodes all the sadder. ;-;
