- The Inverawe Beat on the River Awe is short, only consisting of six pools, but they are all wildly different in character: deep gorge glides, fast narrow runs and classic Highlands streams. I know the top beat on this river better than I know any other stretch of water, but I’ve never spent any meaningful time on the lower sections. And, it turns out, I’ve missed a trick.

Caught my first Salmon, after about 10 yrs of trying, on the last pool you fished on the video, so thank you for bringing that back to me, though I shall now break the triumphant Ally's Shrimp out of its frame as I had it down as the Clay pool! love this beat - and never has been represented better by the drone shots.
Rotten of you not to have put in the tumble you took referred to in the Lochy video to explain slight change in rod and reel set up...
If you use any so called fly you cannot use a lure better than one that resembles a shrimp! However salmon and sea trout fishers should not worry too much what the lure looks like so long as it resembles a natural vision perhaps with a touch orange or red ( I am aware of the gaudy colours these days liked by some) but more importantly how that lure behaves when it is seen by a fish....... It is always well worth asking ones self is my lure behaving as a shrimp does? There will be thousands of experienced and successful fishers who already know that fact of life and to them I apologise profusely..
Any salmon fisher who has not tried to catch a shrimp in a rock pool should resolve that anomaly without a delay because it will be educational to the extent that he/she will know how rapid an exit a shrimp makes when it is being threatened. It might be worth seeing and noting the colours of the prawns and shrimps he sees at the same time as the educational trip.

Nice videos I fished inverawe a few years ago when the rainbow trout had escaped in loch etive an ran the river quite fun so when it comes to deep pools I would try sink and draw method with tungsten cone head and 10 or 15 tip dependent on height tight lines

Mate I’m originally from Liverpool but lived in Canada for the last 4 years and the staple style of fishing here for salmon is float fishing with things like jigs, spinners, worms and bait on the end, super productive here in these rivers. Back home in the UK is float fishing a thing really with the things I mentioned above? Never fished in the UK, just got into it here and I’m wondering! Only really see fly fishing or lure fishing on these sorts of Uk fishing videos!
The Awe is a fly only river Elliot. There are other Scottish rivers where spinning and worm fishing is allowed. None as far as I'm aware, allow the use of a float for game fish..

It has its days.
I personally know a couple of anglers who always get fish on that beat,mainly late spring and summer grilse.They are obviously blessed with luck and perfect timing, but i suppose that is exactly what salmon fly fishing amounts to at the end of the day!!
