- Wrestling Bios Presents - Brain Damage: The Story of New Jack vs Vic Grimes
There is no one in professional wrestling as notorious as New Jack. The stories we read about Jerome Young seem unbeliavable at first, but you best believe that New Jack really did live the gimmick. In SMW and ECW, New Jack made headlines along with his "Gangstas" tag partner Mustafa, brining a new meaning to extreme wrestling.
At ECW Living Dangerously 2000, New Jack worked a match against Da Baldies. During this match, the infamous "Danbury Fall" occured when Vic Grimes fell on top of New Jack when a planned table bump from a scaffold went wrong. The botch left New Jack with some serious health issues, and New Jack heard that Grimes was boasting about putting New Jack out of commission. New Jack returned to ECW a few months later but, in his words, he was never the same.
Fast forward 2 years later and New Jack vs Vic Grimes is booked in XPW, in an event aptly named "FreeFall". During this match, New Jack got his revenge when Vic Grimes was thrown from a 40 foot scaffold, right into the ring.
This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios takes a look at the New Jack vs Vic Grimes matches and the shoot interviews New Jack gave after the incident. Topics covered include:
00:44 New Jack and his reputation as a feared hardcore wrestler
03:14 New Jack's early career before ECW
04:42 Vic Grimes journey in Professional Wrestling, including his WWE tryouts
05:58 The Danbury Fall at ECW Living Dangerously 2000
10:25 XPW Freefall 2002 and the New Jack vs Vic Grimes Scaffold Match

Imagine New Jack in today’s wrestling.
That hell in a cell match would’ve had a damn good reason to be stopped.
Kieran Walsh LMFAO!!!!!!!! Best comment ever
Kieran Walsh To be fair, New Jack would be the only thing that could legitimately frighten The Fiend.
New jack took dives regularly during those days. Mick Foley did it that one time. 15-20 foot falls constantly, he should be dead.
New jack would come out first climb the cage then run and jump off on his opponent
I do believe as soon as I do believe I love her cause I love I think lessons fantastic little bit out any regular style wrestling you would not have new Jack without any style of us when we knew Jack can work any style but he's known for his brutal and nobody start a new jacket live in person so yeah I know what it's like to say that he's you know he's he he at that show him was hit a woman it was in the cloud so yeah I will say that that he's ready deep into his character as if it's even a
Sandman said it best. New Jack definitely marches to the beat of his own drum.
And would probably beat someone to death with a drum.
No see people like RVD or Jeff Hardy "march to the beat of their own drum". New Jack will beat you with said drum and stab you afterwards.
the drumming is from all the brain damage
I'd pay good money to see New Jack vs JBL.
TheOnemanmoshpit tf, why ?
Me too

Because JBL is a well known bully. It'd be fun to watch him try and bully New Jack and get his arse handed to him! 🤣

You think? New Jack is a bounty hunter and has killed people + he'd pull a blade on him.
Either way, they both deserve an arse whooping. 😂
Great vid yet again man. If you say New Jack 3 times into the mirror he’ll cut your forehead with a scalpel 🚑😂

In an honest opinion, New Jack is a madman who was made for the deathmatch/hardcore wrestling scene & Vic Grimes was as green as the grass. Putting two & two together spells a recipe for disaster and controversy.
Kenny H and Vic was reckless as hell
Kenny H yeah that’s usually why these incidents happen; people go into these hardcore matches not knowing what they’re doing and end up hurting someone.
@@notgonnapay that's why I rather see veterans do hardcore matches than green as glass rookies..
@@notgonnapay well new jack is at fault for his own brain injury, he pulled Grimes off the scaffold and he landed on New Jack's head. If he didn't pull him it wouldn't have happened.
New Jack turns a regular match into a Deathmatch if he doesn't get his way... I think it got to a point where no one in the locker rooms wanted anything to do with him
New Jack is like the GG Allin of pro wrestling
Thats the best way I think I've ever heard it put
Less the feces
Imagine GG Allin vs New Jack...now that would be a match id pay some serious cash to see...
Dude, that's actually a perfect simile
Nice...
1:54 "New Jack gets stab happy."
That's just Monday for him.
New Jack also said he was aiming for the floor.
I heard him say that as well.
I heard him saying he was aiming for the ring post
Yeah he lived the gimmick.
To think Jim Cornette, a man criticized for being stuck in the past, was the one to give New Jack a huge push in the south in the 90's!
@@ChristopherJames1993 That was his gimmick, and it worked. He got WHITE HOT HEAT at the time.
A lot of what Jim did in Smokey Mountain was innovative. He actually started the Triple Threat match and WWE called him to explain the rules before they used it.
Apparently he’s a racist according to NJ so that’s weird
@@bradr3541 jim cornette is more liberal than the biggest tree hugging hippy....he has a shoot on getting upset vince wouldnt push ahmed johnson to the main event scene when he was clearly over with all the fans

HaHaHaHaHa... awesome.
He plays Natural Born Killaz when he comes for your soul.
😂😂😂
Real talk
Was a massive ECW fan back in the day. Got to see numerous shows between 1998-2000. Watching New Jack in person was surreal: danger was everywhere as you didn't know where Jack would end up. With that said, the fans LOVED New Jack. Every time Natural Born Killaz started to play we went nuts. I think that the fans embraced New Jack for the danger he presented. He was so out of control you never really knew what would happen. ECW fans like me really loved that aspect.
FWIW; Jack knew EXACTLY what he was doing to Grimes. That was his receipt for Danbury.
When it comes to New Jack, it's a two-way street. I hate the fact that he did all these disturbing acts, but at the end of it all, I am left intrigued and wanting to find out more. I'll say this much, New Jack is really, really good talker and his promos speak for themselves, especially the ones in Smoky Mountain Wrestling. However, he isn't the best wrestler. New Jack, when motivated, can wrestle (E.G. The Gangstas VS. Rock 'n' Roll Express and his time in TNA), but most of the time, he just brawls, uses weapons, and doesn't care about the safety of his opponent (E.G. Almost New Jack match after 2000, especially his indy matches).
I mean, he also got paid more to be a garbage wrestler. That's another piece of the puzzle that is New Jack.
The brain damage that he suffered from that fall very well could be why he seems bugged out and contribute to the level of violence in his matches, I may be mistaken but it seems he got A LOT more violent after that.
well how do you follow that without taking a worse bump? You can't. You end up on the Titantron over a pit of flaming spikes. In a Blue Blazer outfit.
I agree. Studies have shown that brain damage can cause people to completely lose rational train of thought
New Jack, aka Jerome Young, had 4 justifiable homicides under his belt before he ever entered a wrestling ring. Let that sink in for a minute... dude killed 4 people when he worked as a bounty hunter. Justified or not, New Jack was a violent person before and after his head injury.
@@patrickmcdaniel2048 justifiable, not murder. Bounty hunters ain't like Star wars, they track and take in people that are on bail or bond, and unless he's talked about it my guess is the 4 were dangerous people and he acted with equal force. If it's a situation where one person walks away alive, life or death, I think any normal person would be violent hence I don't think it's necessarily fair to use that against him. Does it show a history of aggression, sure. But if he's never told the stories of what happened we can only speculate and it isn't fair to use that example without all the facts
Nah it’s just all the coke and crack he does.
Jack's autobiography pretty much confirms he meant to harm Grimes, and that it was his entire reason for joining XPW in the first place.
He did it for The Rock
He did it for the people
He did it for himself
"Don't worry. I got you."
"Butterfingers!"
Actually he said "don't worry, you won't need them"
“ Bombs Away. “
In the DARK SIDE OF THE RING episode New Jack said he said DONT WORRY, YOU WONT NEED THEM when Vic said he can’t feel his legs
"That's part of New Jack being New Jack" in response to long-term mental health concerns is one of the craziest things I have ever heard.
He did said that when he finally dies, he'll be the happiest he's ever been lol
I wouldn’t work with him. First rule is to look after your opponent. Second is to work safe. He can’t do either. There was a point I was waiting to hear he had died or killed someone in the ring. Not even exaggerating
K.james Carters aman!
To be fair, if you didn't piss him off he was relaxed as could be. You gotta remember he did primarily hardcore style. The ecw style and independent style is all about blood and shock factor, so it's not surprising how violent his matches were.
I agree. The man got off on hurting people. He didn't want to protect his fellow worker in the ring or work safe. Like I said above getting colour is one thing New Jack took it to a level that I'm shocked has never been considered criminal assault. The man is a psychopath and an animal
Actually I’ve watched interviews with Blue Meanie and I believe Sandman who’ve both said that he was fine to work with. He only became dangerous if you started taking liberties with him
New Jack like most other vets in the hardcore scene had rules when it came to a match. Especially if your a new guy wrestling a vet you sit and listen follow what is said.
Some of New Jack's antics are genuinely difficult to hear about.
New Jack has actually claimed that he wanted Grimes to hit the floor but he couldnt throw him hard enough
Of course is going to say that lol. He lives his gimmick dude.
I’ve seen the interview he says he wanted vic to land head first on the ring post but they moved the ring so that’s what saved vic
@@mrnaughtycat as he should have
Bombs away!
Well I mean he wanted him to go through what he did if not worse basically
I feel like a lot of New Jacks "shoot interviews" is him playing on the New Jack "crazy" persona.
Yeah, he’s very calm in the Beyond the Mat documentary
Yep, his shoots are him playing the character. People get worked by it and it's worked.
There is no "New Jack" persona. That is him! He's a legit sociopath. He's a crack fiend and has serious mental illness.
@@DeLaCruzProductionz yeah that was filmed in the mid to late nineties, before he went completely off the rails. He's a lunatic douchebag.
@@kimchi2780 That is called CTE
New Jack is a gentleman and a scholar. He's a man of principle and great moral integrity
I was at that ppv live. I ran to the scaffold and was literally 5 ft away when they fell off. I remember atlas security carrying New Jack out of the back of the arena. Crazy moment.
Damn I'm jealous
Honestly in another life I think New Jack could’ve been an actor or comedian, Guy is hilarious and got that natural charisma
New jack has that strange serial killer charisma where you know he is sick and a bully but you can't help but like him even a little
At least he's somewhat entertaining unlike these shitty new "angles" they write these days
There's a 'Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories' vibe about New Jack *just with more scalpels*
I was at a few SMW events featuring the Gangstas and a New Jack comedy show at Wrestlemania Atlanta. Both were equally terrifying and entertaining. His promos and entrances in ECW were amazing.
Everytime his entrance music came on i was so excited i was like yes we gunna get a real fight
Nothing good ever happens when New Jack says, "It's ok, I got ya"!
In my opinion both men were reckless in the scaffold match. Vic could have died and New Jack showed no remorse. Honestly I don't blame companies for not wanting to hire New Jack.
Vic should have never been in the match to begin with considering their earlier encounter he got stage fright and almost ended up killing them both.
New jack almost killed them both. Grimes didn’t want to do the spot and Jack went through with it which lead to the accident.
New Jack can be upset about the guy bitching out but it was his decision to go through with a spot even though grimes wasn’t ready for it. When he decided to force the spot he knew what could happened and chose to accept the risk.
I don't think New Jack was trying to "kill" Vic, but I have no doubt he was trying to injure him to a certain degree.
The dark side of the ring documentary said he didn't throw him hard enough.
@@irvinmorales1409 People don't get New Jack. He was the last wrestler to never break kayfabe.
@@redrick8900yeah. I tend to agree that he was in gimmick in all his shoots. But I also think he was trying to potentially end this dude’s life here. Like, he certainly was prepared for him to be dead after throwing him. But because i don’t know Vic’s side of this story, maybe he agreed to something crazy as a receipt for how much he hurt Jack, I don’t know.
@@Thor-Orion Watch the video. Vic is in complete control of the fall. New jack just has his hand on his neck in a position where he would have no leverage to actually effect the fall. You can't really throw a person like that.
Moral of the story: Don't mess with New Jack.
Please do a full video on the man his entire career!

I would love to see Vince McMahon's reaction to a New Jack match. 😂
There’s never been a more intriguing character than Jack.
right anyone who can get terri runnells/marlena and sunny/tammy sytch (whom didnt mess with black men but she did mess with new jack) is awesome
Him falling on New Jack's head is still the craziest I've ever seen in this business.
Then again him tasing that dude up there to throw him off is one of the funniest things I've ever heard
It was always a wild ride watching New Jack.
I love New Jack, but I do question whether even he knows where the reality starts and the kayfabe ends. He talked about the ECW incident in "legends of extreme" and in that mentioned it was more the way Grimes raised his hand as he was being carried out after the match that pissed him off. That and I don't think Grimes ever called him while he was home recuperating. I believe this much more than him bragging about taking him out in the locker room. He also mentions trying to hit the ring post with him during the xpw match. I call work on that, too. ECW was king of the work shoots around this time.
New Jack is actually a great freakin promo sometimes. See if you can track down the promo he did at some dinner event or something weird like that before ECW's first PPV barely legal.
When you get to the gangstaz video, don't forget to mention the smoky mountain wrestling promo where he said "OJ! Good job. Two less for the rest of us to have to worry about." in a room full of racist assholes. Phew. Now that's heat.
This guy is on video stabbing a guy with a knife in the middle of the ring. Do you think he knows?
new Jack was the racist asshole and couldn't wrestle he just wanted to hurt people and didn't care if someone he hurt w as out and how long they would be out due to new Jack's carelessness
I have had the chance to get to know New Jack over the past two years. I train at a local wrestling facility in North Carolina, and he stops by from time to time to give tips on giving believable wrestling promos. He is surprisingly a quiet, humble guy.
So he made a racist comment in a room full of racists? He was just trying to fit in bro.
@@davidbarton675 There is video that proves that New Jack can wrestle . It's him with tag team partner Homeboy against 2 guys in USWA and he does quite well wrestling there . Plus he did wrestle in SMW .In ECW he was just a brutal street thug . Plain and simple
The sad part about it is new Jack ranked lower than Sabu and Cactus Jack on the 25 most hard-core wrestlers list
All that killing business is just New Jack playing New Jack the character. He's been in this business far longer than most realise and since he's an independent thats just him drumming up business. The storys him and Jim Cornette tell of their SMW days are often hilarious.
Sometimes its hard to tell if New Jack is playing a character or himself. He is that good with his kayfabe. But I am sure him and Jim are still good friends. One of the rare few that New Jack has

New Jack is the only wrestler to this day who I think wasn't a gimmick and I think that's what fascinates us. We all deep down got a little disheartened when we realised wrestling wasn't real but no matter how much about the business you know, New Jack will always seem authentic even to this day. @Jay Vince did try to sign them in 95 but they were offered a better deal to stay in WCW. By the time that WCW folded Stevie Ray was more or less retired and Booker T had transitioned into a single.
New Jack was supposed to have a tryout match with WWE against Finley but Vince at the last minute blocked it. According to Jack.

New Jack "wanting to kill" Vic Grimes was definitely a work, from what I can tell. The stun gun was genuine New Jack insanity, but the messiness of the fall was accidental and possibly more Grimes' fault than anyone else.
Perhaps being stunned 40 ft in the air before being thrown would contribute to "not being able to co-operate properly in the fall"
Grime`s being unable to control his muscles and movement because New Jack used a stun gun on him was mostly Grime`s fault? What kind of logic is that?

I've seen ECW shows. It wasn't as violent as people say. It actually wasn't that good. It was very unprofessional.
"Don't nobody like him." So, everybody likes Vic Grimes? Cool!
Considering that one match where he bludgeoned a kid, and stabbed someone named Lane 14 times for less, I do believe it was revenge. BUT I also feel Grimes did overshoot it but in this "match" it was break a leg or your neck scenario. Both are at fault and I cant believe it was only 2000, I always assumed it was 97/98.
