Last week Pat & Geoff went to visit the Las Vegas Open. Whilst no gaming took place for us we had an awesome time visiting our first tournament and chatting to an amazing hobby community, are our views and thoughts on competitive Warhammer changed?! Thanks to @ArtisOpus @FauxHammer and ED! for taking us along.
The "erm, like, yeah" meter is off the charts this episode, hopefully with less jetlag that will improve!

With this lighting it looks like your next guest is going to be a hard drinking private eye who saw too much in the war and is now looking for a missing dame with a sapphire necklace.
Genius comment
Or a Maltesefalcon ;)
The lady's name, ironically, is Bella.
THE PAINTING PHASE'S MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN CROSSOVER!
(working title)
Marco's videos changed the way I saw mini painting and there is just something about the way he says "modulation" that makes me happy and smile!
I was at LVO for the Kill Team tournament (which was amazing fun), but I was overjoyed to unexpectedly meet the two of you there! Thank you for letting me get a picture with you, and good luck in 2024 (and Geoff, I look forward to more of your outrageous military stories)!
Nice! I was in Vegas in November, glad you had a great time and you got to see some sights!
Damn, Peachy left, I’m bloody shocked 😢
We wish the him the best.
If you wished him the best maybe he wouldn’t have left
That’s a bit below the belt mate.
@@carlstanford7607 Now why would you feel the need to go and say that?
@adrianu9987 based on Peachy's statement, cordial but icy, it sounds like things didn't end on great terms.
Great review! Love you guys!
Great episode - Super chill and loved the convo!
It was awesome to say hi to you guys even though I couldn't stay and chat. Hope to see you again next year!
Really enjoyed getting to chat with you guys! I'm tempted to buy that rogal dorn and make a dukes of hazard diorama with it.
It was a pleasure meeting you guys at lvo
Sounds like an awesome time! And what a dream time, The Painting Phase, AO, and Fauxhammer!
Awww shucks. Love you Spen
Awesome accounting of the LVO show. Really looking forward to meeting you guys at AdeptiCon.
Love the new set look. Glad you guys got home safe and sound.
I missed getting to see you guys, but glad you all had a blast! Definitely amazing people everywhere I went, was great and going to make it a regular thing now!
LVO was an awesome experience, but the 40k tourney was a pretty blistering pace and was super exhausting - but the amount of talent and awesome people there was overwhelming
Also, Vegas intentionally makes the building look smaller to confuse you and make you walk further and get more exhausted because you sit to rest at a slot/table when you get to the location and are more likely to get brain-drained into the machines, just like how far everything is spread put in general. Welcome to the Capitalism Sates of America 🤣
As some one with sensory issues, I can appreciate the new light setup. 👌Glad you both had an interesting time at LVO!
Sounds like an awesome trip! Cheers lads
Great chat lads.
The museum is Verko’s Vault, who is creating basically a museum/gallery of famous mini painters’ art. He’s opening near the strip and has a ton of cool models including the Manta. Opening in 2024. It seems like a cool idea if he can sustain it as a business.
Big agree about seeing Byron work in person. I sat with him for 30 min at NOVA and he talked through the whole process and it was so enlightening.
Sounds like a great time. Not jealous at all. Also those are some nice geese pictures.
Stinks Peachy left, but wish both peachy and you guys the best as you find your footing again. And people are going to say mean things in these early days, just move through it. Good luck
Great chat
It was great fun meeting you guys at LVO, you were lovely booth neighbors :) See you again soon, and thanks for the very kind remarks regarding our models!
I wish you all the best The Painting Phase. You’ve have had some amazing interviews with historic creators in the miniatures world.
The chemistry you had between all three hosts was truly special. Good luck with the future.
Sounds like an awesome time.
Tournament-wise I've had my behind handed to me, being stomped into submission early doors. However I've still enjoyed the tournaments I've competed at, the enthusiasm for the hobby can be infectious
Nice chatting with you as well :) Cheers!
I am exactly, 1 minute 18 seconds in and you guys have already made my day. I honestly have been having a rough day so far, but that opening joke made me literally laugh out loud. You guys are the best.
58:38 having a electric kettle in the room depends on the hotel you say at. I’ve been in plenty of hotel/motels that have them.
The main thing scaring me from tournaments like this is the amount of games you have to play. I’ll play two on a good day over several hours with a beer break. :) Glad you had fun, thanks for the company while painting.
Same
Same. I play warcry/underworlds for a few hours every week and just that fries my brain. I can’t imagine playing Bighammer for days on end
It was lovely to meet you both. You are very welcome for the coffees, I had to keep the eye candy happy after all. I'll make sure to bring some tea for Geoff at Adepticon. Also thank you for the palette!
You both are welcome for the coffees, it was lovely to meet you both. I will make sure to bring tea for Geoff at Adepticon.
Glad you guys had a great time in Vegas, was great meeting you both and getting pegged by Geoff too!
Also did you try the amazing cake vending machine at the Rio??
Sorry I missed you guys, I was busy judging that 900+ person 40K event
US conventions have a big advantage: In general, boardgame events get better the more effort people have to do travel to get to them. It takes so much effort to end up to go to a place like LVO that people who are going to just be unfriendly aren't going going to bother showing. It doesn't matter which game we are talking about: Local people who dropped in by the store from 10 minutes away are going to be far sweatier. This is especially true when the prizes are minimal, as the people that are just considering the trip to be a money making opportunity aren't going to show either.
This is also why the WTC is great too: Small event, full of people that spent a lot of effort just showing up.
Had an absolute awesome time hanging out and becoming friends with all you guys! 🤘🤘
Hey Brandon, you awesome man. We hope you’re well.
@@thepaintingphase doing great buddy, keep in touch!
Sounds like quite the fantastic experience to get to see, I really like and appreciate both your honest opinions at the end about recommending it or not. I think too many people over hype certain things because it's supposed to be magical but it's nice to hear more realistic highs and lows of the trip. Keep up the great work guys! :)
As a Chicagoland native, extra fuzzy slippers (Fuzzy Crocs are the shit), would be an excellent choice for Adepticon. Also, while you're here, make sure you find some time to get some American Barbecue! We have tons of great BBQ spots in Chicagoland. Looking forward to meeting you guys at the con! Also, I'll be sure to bring an electric kettle you can borrow for the week 😆
I can’t wait to meet you at Adepticon!
Shame about Peachy... BUT... please carry on guys, Ive gotten accustomed to painting whilst chuckling at your chats.
Very kind, thanks so much.
Go follow peachy though…
Great recap. :D
Every single person working a vendor booth at LVO were very friendly and very helpful.
That's because they want your money... lol
I must have been on lunch
Geoff, you had me laughing at Vegas comparing Army stories!
Ooo the Moody Phase - Not a bad lighting setup
So Jelous! But what an amazing experience it must have been 😮!
the giant gummy bear is not for eating, he becomes an heirloom of your kingdom, slowly dehydrating until he looks like the god emperor of gummy bearkind
who geoff?
I'm from Rugby, down the road from you guys, but for last 10 years I've lived in Reno, the smaller and tamer version of Vegas at the other end of Nevada. EVERYTHING you said is true, and even after 10 years everything still seems weird and strange to me, not in a bad way, mind. You should have tried driving, it's nuts! Glad you had a great time. If you haven't seen it, you should definitely have a watch of Reno 911, the funniest cop show ever.
I was in the UK last May. The driving there can be a bit nuts.
Thin roads. We wouldn’t know what to do with all that USA space.
@@thepaintingphase enjoy it, probably.
Can recommend any Callis and Toll books. Great adventure buddy cop stories
Hobby convention booth babes!
Missed you guys!! Always love your show!! But please could we have an update as to the whereabouts of Peachy? 😬
Interested to see more of this nouche medium you mentioned. It sounds a lot like gouache medium with an n at the front but hopefully it suits minis better if it's made for purpose.
You lot have smashed it. From “what are you painting Pat?” to “where are we flying Pat?”
The Painting Phase entering the domination phase. Happy for your success ❤
The Rio is going through remodeling since it was sold fairly recently. They used to have some really interesting themed entertainment. The had the Mardi Gras in the sky where they had boats hanging from the ceiling going around the casino.
Genuine suggestion for Adepticon footwear: Crocs. Comfiest clogs I’ve ever worn. And you can flick the ankle strap over to all terrain mode if you’re heading outside 😁
Fun story! The Rio had a carnival / madrigras theme with ‘parades’ with floats that ran along a track on the ceiling…but they nixed that for numbers of reasons in the 00’s. and also have heard the Excalibur is kinda ‘sad’ these days and is super haunted….hope to check out LVO next year
I went to LVO and I wanted to come say hi so badly! Social anxiety got the better of me but maybe next year...
Best shoes for a trade show - on-running Cloud 5 trainers - I wore them for a 4 day show doing 12 hours a day on stand.
For non-chapter specific Space Marines, their original Combat Patrol box was discontinued and was replaced with the combat patrol that originally came in Leviathan. January’s White Dwarf gave us rules to use most of the contents of the original combat patrol (minus the vehicle but adding the Librarian). February’s White Dwarf is giving us a new Tyranid Combat Patrol with all Lictors and Von Ryan’s Leapers.
All of this is to say that GW seems to be starting to give us more Combat Patrol lists outside of what comes in the eponymous box sets. I could absolutely see a Kroot list making its way into a White Dwarf and I agree with Jeff that I hope one does!
Some great info there, cheers - Geoff
Hope to see you folks at the Content Creators Meet & Greet at Adepticon!
As a Kroot Mercenary fan for 20+ years... do it Geoff
6’2 here as well! Flights in steerage are always a pain! Completely impossible to get truly comfortable.
Marco Frisoni's voice may be relaxing.... so are your couch chats, love it. Was the great Sergio Calvo fetching the coffees??
Afraid not but I did meet him - Geoff
Another great episode and keep up the good work! But us Americans told tea to get in the sea a long time ago.
"That's all we've got time for so it's goodbye from me and goodbye from him"
damn sad i wasnt able to go and meet ya guys haha :D
You guys are going to Adepticon! Will see you there!
Great!
I think a 6 mile long canyon would probably be called “the pretty ok canyon”.
The thought of the UKSF lads playing 40k down at Hereford is hilarious 😂
Hahaha, the lack of kettles in hotels is horrible!
please don't take this too negatively but I defo preferred the previous sofa set up, even for two person chat shows
Where’s peachy ?
He died 😔
Worse. He's bald! @@solairesunpraiser
It's been a dream of mine for a while to go on a trip around the USA and visit the locations from the Fallout games (Boston,California, etc) but then I realised in texas alone, its the equivalent to driving from Birmingham to Rome. I get annoyed at car journeys after 30 miles, lol.
I have to go to Vegas for work every now and again. And went to the Grand Canyon for the first time. While there I googled 'How many people fall over the edge each year' And its on average 3.
Kroot are not getting a Combat Patrol at the start, mate 👍
I’m sure they’re not but I’m a patient boy.
where's Peachey?
They left him at the grand canyon 😂
It was great to spend some time with you gents!
Like wise, you produce the finest DAKKA. Absolute pleasure-Geoff
@@thepaintingphase hope to see you guys again soon
Cro-maaatic-blaaak just made me spit my tea! 😂
See you at Adepticon!
I'd go with the slipper choice for footwear.
Too many years ago, when I was at school, one of the science teachers wore Slippers to teach chemistry.
Pat you’re awesome man, not very often I want to watch someone’s ads
Surprised you didn’t pop off to the shooting range with aliens pulse rifles and smart gun mock ups.
Is that a thing?
A massive Christ the Redeemer statue? In Sin City?? 🤣
given your uniform choice try going to San Fransisco or Key West
Have imges now of Geoff carving up his gummy bear for sunday dinner, tickled me that did. And Geoff surely you must of had longer flights....the panini express down to the Falklands? Great show looking forward to the car park story as to why peachy couldnt make it 😂 sounds like you guys had a blast, looked at war scenery there stuff looks good, anywhere print it for those not wanting to enter that mine field.😂
Absolutely, I’m just out of ‘long haul practice’ and it’s not something I miss. I normally sail to and then drive round Europe, much more my pace these day - Geoff
Those geese pics were beautiful. Were they your own geese pics Pat?
Fun video. Great you guys had a good time. Still no gummie bear on insta😢 and 350pounds is 157.5kg
Gummie bear now up, thanks for the reminder!
@@thepaintingphase lovely lovely😆
The electric kettle never took off in the US because our electric grid runs at 120v not 240v so an electric kettle takes essentially the same amount of time to boil a pot of water as a kettle on the stove
Good God! The Horror, the horror……
Electric cars also take twice as long to charge out of a domestic socket…
Hey guys I use podcast addict to listen to your great content but I noticed nothing has been uploaded to it for this year is there a delay somewhere or are you no longer uploading to that service ?
Love your stuff guys
Bella is my favorite member of the painting phase.
Fair.
Seeing those crowds makes me remember why I got into warhammer in the first place... staying away from humans :D
You guys mention that the Rio Casino doesn't really display signs of Rio. Pat said something like "where is the Christ the Redeemer?" If you look at the building from the distance the lights are shaped in a certain statues pose "T" O.o so there was some attempt to represent its name.
With regard to prices for flights, taking a random Monday a few months away, with return the Friday, on BA economy £1,393, premium economy £2,489, Business £8,585, they don't offer first class, but at a guess £12k+. So it's about 10x the cost!
1) Geoff is the correct height.
2) Geoff the Kroot launch box will probably be the basis of any Combat Patrol they might release for Krott. (I'm getting much more tempted by this box, gods I hope it takes a while to release.)
I think any Kroot combat patrol would be like the SM Vanguard Taskforce CB they ‘released’ last year that uses units out of the Vanguard Spearhead box set. You won’t actually get a Kroot CB box but rules for it will be released in White Dwarf using the units from the Kroot army box.
@@leeksveeks4572 that feels mor likely to me as well.
This just in people who live in the desert are not as used to rain as people from the UK
10 hours is the longest flight you've been on?! *Laughs in Australian*
Guys, love the new studio but what's happened to your output frequency of long chats, hardly anything since Christmas?
Since becoming a two man team again, we’ve had so a good chunk of rejigging the schedule. We’ve two recorded that are in for edits with another to record this Monday and an interview on the Tuesday. So back to normal very soon. Sorry for the wait - Geoff
RIP Peach
Has he left the painting phase?
Sadly yes. They wanted to go in a different direction
What?
ua-cam.com/video/t36p-saDdtc/v-deo.htmlsi=BUkWnBTgsEfWQKzU
Glad you survived your trip from the Dinosaurs.
The new Kroot look like people in rubber suits to me *XD*
They've lost the hunched, alien proportions.
JEFF IS THE BEST ❤
Thanks so much.
That weathering stuff.. "noush"??? Can anybody share a link to the product?
