  • This week we chat to one of the only sculptors who hasn't worked at Games Workshop, Ian from Fenris Games. Ian's sculpting and modeling story is incredible, he's worked on movies, made 1:1 model trains, and now runs Fenris Games making loads of miniatures and scenery for the tabletop.

What a fascinating guest, it's so refreshing having a podcast to listen to with interesting varied guests that I feel like we wouldn't hear the voices of many other places. The sheer amount of experience Ian has from working with miniature manufacturers, to creatives to big companies to film sets, like Red Dwarf! I am very jealous. Thanks for having him on!

There was a section about model builders sneaking stuff in and I've got one to share. If you are familiar with the plastic army men (those green and grey ww2 ones) there was one with his arm in the air waving. One of these from the waist up has been built into the model of the executor from star wars, happily waving away.

Yet another of those "Wow, I had no idea how interesting this visitor would be!" episodes. And on top of that I even got some good news out of it - having been a happy customer for bases I had somewhat stopped ordering since Brexit. Hearing that the shipping issues have been resolved makes me so happy, since Ian's bases are some of my favourites in the business!

For my sins, I don't butter toast (or Crumpets and Sarnies, or indeed anything actually) but it's got to be with a thick layer of marmite on the slice, or when it's piping hit, smother the bugger with chunky peanut butter so it's nice and gooey when you eat it.

That's very interesting about "Faugh a Ballagh". My great grandfather had a boat which, until I actually saw a photograph of it, I thought as a child had been called "the fog and bollock" but was actually called "fàg an beallach" ( in the sense of "leave the road" as an ideal to use a different way of traveling rather than as an instruction to "clear the way").

As always - nice one chaps. The early half of the week is always made better by a fresh PP podcast. Also 4:57 - how much do I wish companies and studios nowadays were more willing to put faith in fresh talent. You can get relevant academic qualifications and degrees, build an extensive portfolio, even have success independently but more oft than not you'll hit the recruiters wall!
Edit; I'm not talking about model making as such but other creative sectors/industries.
