Mechanics with Matt should be a segment on the show just for the little things that he does or has to do when working on cars. Legit the middle part of the video with him explaining stuff was really cool.
Corey Wharton seriously. I have an 18 SS and given the cost of labor involved to do a cam on the LT1, it makes more sense just to bolt on performance mods like a supercharger and exhaust. Not quite the same power but pretty close and 1/3 less cost.
@@artagain8977 idk what ur smokin but a supercharger is not 1/3rd of the cost. My whipple was $8000 and for that much money I could have my whole motor built max effort n/a

Im at 467 rwhp and 482 torque in my 19 ss auto with Rotofab Cai and E85 . Im gonna do a can swap next month with blower and its gonna hit a extra 100 rwhp just with the cam swap

I went out for a burger one time and bumped into that guy with the black 1LE you guys did and I was blown away. Then again out at the track, the car is sick, great job. (Im Canadian)
I’m a Camaro guy, but wouldn’t mind the new 5.0. The only thing keeping me away is a cam swap costing more than double the amount and there’s no way in hell would I be rolling around with a “ghost” cam tune.
Appalachian Turf expected gains on stock heads. Look at the torque curve. With heads he’ll be nicely in the 500rwhp range, but peak numbers don’t always win the races
I figured out the trick to get the pan off without dropping the cradle or unbolting any motor mounts or trans mounts.. I actually found it out of ignorance and luck but it's beautifully simple when you figure it out
That’s funny I have a 2019 1LE that’s headers/intake/tune and when you guessed 455 I was like ain’t no way I make 429 wheel on the same mods. Turned out he made exactly what I make lol

A lot of manufacturers are doing away with gaskets, and using RTV type silicone. Honestly, I thinks best, the silicone lasts longer than a gasket, when done correctly.

Not that you guys give a shit. but really enjoy when you guys showed some more of the technical stuff. Or whats really involved in doing the cam install etc.
Really great video breaking down LT1, I have one question tho. Is there no benefit from keeping vvt? I know a lot of L99 guys kept it, is it not feasible with the taint tickler or large cams?
I kno speed engineering stuff is cheaper. But I’ve had them on my cammed 16 Sierra for about 2 years and 60k miles with no issues. Still look new under the hood. I’m curious how they will hold up with boost tho
This might be a stupid question, I'm not sure how this system works, but the cam lockout block that was installed, this doesn't cause a balance issue? I would think each slot would get a block to keep it balanced?
Oh you fucking tease, you! Had me creasing over here waiting to hear that V rip on the dyno and blow a damn hole through the wall only for the video to end 😭 RPM or NOTHING 🤘🏽🇺🇸🦅
Doing a cam swap by lowering the cradle like this is still hotly contested on the 6th gen forums. Sure looks like it works to me! What components have to be removed before you can lower the cradle adequately and do you raise engine any?
Looking into buying a 23’, Camaros were always my bedroom poster car as a child. My question is, does dropping a cam in void the warranty in any way? Was thinking I’d wait till warranty expiration and then cam. Maybe I go full tool mode and cam my 03’ Tahoe 5.3 too 😂😂
No not VTEC guys. Real DOHC VTEC adjusts timing AND lift. The lift is the kicker. If the LT1 increased lift in the same way then it would produce at least 620 hp at the flywheel and have a 7500 RPM limit stock.
You have to admit the 2019-2020 Camaro SS is a beautiful car. This looks so much better than the droopy front end of a 2018-2020 Mustang GT. When I first saw an image of a 2019 Camaro SS I thought it was so ugly. All it took for me to fall in love with the SS was seeing the new front end in person. The new Camaro SS has a complex 3D shape that cannot be expressed properly in a 2D image. The new Mustangs though are ugly online and in person with their catfish face looking at you!

I installed a Texas Speed VVT3 cam with Texas Speed cnc heads in my 17 ss. RPM tuned it and it made 535 rwhp. It also had Texas Speed long tubes catted x-pipe with stock npp and a Rotofab. The heads do add hp and you have them off anyway.
Would it be worth it to do forged rods and pistons in an lt1 if you're already pulling everything off during a cam swap? Seems like the effort to do the cam you might as well do rods and pistons.

That's cool you didn't sacrifice much, if any low rpm tq with new cam package, and also considering the locked cam timing, good results!
You only have to pull the pan if youre doing an oil pump. If not, no need to drop the pan or pull the engine. That's just added work
Geesh sweet rides and upgrades!💪🏽🤤🔥 awesome work guys!
Thanks, was always curious.
I have Speed Engineering headers and Xpipe. Great fitment on the headers, but you have to weld up the X pipe. 2 years, no issues.
Damn, I did not realize you have to remove half the engine for these newer LT1’s. My old LS3, 2, 1, 6, etc where all very easy and quick.
22:40 correct

You are ruining the weight balance by being on the driver seat anyways

If it makes you feel better, you'll typically only see their tailights in a camaro so theres that, especially if it has the 10 speed.....lol
Why would you want to lock out the adjustable cam phaser? Will it cause piston to valve contact with the new higher lift cam?
Bc you don’t want it to move around
RaceProvenMotorsports maybe I should’ve been clearer. Why would you NOT want variable cam timing? Does it cause a problem?
