I love that you actually took time to tell us about stuff instead of just turning pages 🤗 I was born in the 90's so this is all super interesting to me
I hear much sadness in your voice and I'm very moved by the message at the end. You're absolutely right: in this world of turmoil, all we can really do is try to shine the light of kindness around us as much as possible ..
I feel privileged to have gone to high school and college in the 80s. I remember all the fashions and fads, and it was great to reflect on in your flip-thru. 😊
Things weren't as great for women, POC and the LGBTQ community plus the AIDS epidemic was devastating. There were amazing fashions and music, but it wasn't a dream utopia. Just know that whatever year it is it is better than it was ten years ago even. We are moving forward!! @@prettyytrash
This video was so great, thank you! I grew up in the 2000s, and I loved buying magazines and creating mood boards - I even had two walls of my bedroom covered completely in all these beautiful campaigns and ads. I miss this era sometimes ❤
Thanks for this, Jeannie :) These are my favourite videos because I love hearing your thoughts and/or experience of various eras and decades. These videos intelligently combine ASMR and social history from your perspective. Perfect! I would love to see more of these post 1970s vintage magazine walk and talk throughs. Thanks again
i just discovered you and this video and i love the 80's nostalgia, love your asmr soft spoken voice and nail tapping (my fave) and your positive warm and nurturing energy. my favorite thing about 80s mag flip thru videos like this one (and i love how long it is) are the fashion pics and the nostalgia, the way tiny memories long forgotten can return, and remembering the feeling back then (i was in my teens). all the cigarette ads, i forgot about that! and the one ad to become a model with that same blond actress advertising it that was in everything, just like the Ban de Soleil ad.
I love how much you remember about all this. I hear people sometimes say they remember something they liked to wear but they can never get this in depth!
I listen to ASMR nightly. It is so cute that my blind dog doesn't pay much attention, but anytime I put you on. He comes to my phone and snuggles up. He loves you. I do too!!! ❤
I really enjoyed this video. Being a child of the 1980’s, I was 9 when this Vogue issue came out. The summer of 1984 was full of fond memories for me. 1984 was the beginning of the huge hair, heavy, colorful make up, high heels and the huge shoulder pads. Both my older sisters embraced this look. But even then, Vogue was on the cutting edge. Remarkable to see those fashions in Vogue back then.
Hi Jeannie, I too loved Vidal Sassoon shampoo, conditioner, and serum - seriously full of Almonds. Sadly not made any longer. Thanks for another fabulous video. Hope you had a lovely meal. Jan, England xx 🫶
I love when your “soft spoken” is little louder like this. Your voice is too good to hide it in whispers or the near whisper you start with in some soft spoken videos. I say this in the nicest way possible, and slightly hoping you continue to make more with this “volume” or level of voice.
Your voice is so soothing. I’m old enough to have been a teen in 80s and remember all of these images and looks. Magazine has very little content- just paying for adverts and not cheap either
You look absolutely gorgeous 😍! Thank you so much for keeping me company while l am having a nice cup of Moka espresso 😊☕ I love your page turning so much !
Loved this. As soon as I saw the hosiery pages it reminded me of the lacy tights I wore in different colours. Sometimes we would wear up to 3 layers of shoulder pads and looked like baseball players 🤣. Yes the fashion, big hair and New Romantic music are burned into my memory. 😘👩🎤
I still love to paint on flamboyant makeup 💄 occasionally…but I was 5 in 1984. 🥰. I loved the 80s and would gladly go back as an adult! My mom ordered from spiegal and loved Talbots! She did the huge glasses with makeup too. 😅
This video gave me soooo many tingles, and I rarely get tingles anymore! So nice of you to share a blast from the past like this. And though I wasn’t even a thought at this time, it’s still so cool to see!!
So here I am watching your video and my dog is snoring right beside me! 😊 She loves your videos just like I do! 🥰❤ Honestly, thank you so much for making videos, you make so many of us so happy!
Here I am watching your video and my dog snoring beside me. 😂 We both love your voice! It’s so soothing. I can’t thank you enough for making videos. 🥰❤
This brought me right back to my school days! I felt so comfortable listening to you talking about those pages, reminded me of myself. 😄 I used to wait for next issues of international Vogue and flip through them in book stores. Digital version is not the same. Really enjoyed watching this video, thank you!
Thanks so much Jeannie I needed this today. Times were of.c tough at times in the mid80s but there are fond memories too. Lucky you going out to dinner. You look really sharp. I hope you had a lovely time. My treat however after this will be seeing the film Heat and Dust which I attended with my friends in 1983. A most welcome 40 year revisit.
Jeannie- Always a pleasure to read through magazines with you; or, well, almost with you! Your blahblahblahs are such a comfort after a long day. I was especially excited for this video… definitely a jump from the usual 60s and 70s magazines, but just as fun! Thankful for your content and your lovely commentary! Best, Brandon
I was born in 1988, maybe a video could be dedicated to that year 😅 I also wanted to comment that 80's and 90's magazines specifically the ones about home decoration were so entertaining to me. Thanks for your videos 🎉🎉🎉
Probably kind of a weird comment but I find your nails super relaxing in these magazine flip through. Just the visual aspect of them pointing at things and the shiny clear polish.
As a 20 year old, I’m struck by how wearable these older high heels look. The bases are tapered, but not too thin like the stilettos of today. They also aren’t super high. I wonder if this is because women used to wear heels more often back then. Now they are worn mostly on special occasions, so designers don’t make them with practicality in mind anymore. I’ve never worn heels to my office internship, but I imagine women back then didn’t have that luxury.
I’m sure others have said this before, but you look so much like Candice Bergen! Your voice is lovely. The quality and paper type of older magazines is mesmerizing.
i love the magazine videos! i thought of a really cool video idea for you! if you have any developed photos from your childhood-2000s, show and go through the photos! i’d love to hear stories about where the photo was taken, who the people are and what life was like for you! it’s almost like going through a magazine but with interesting real stories
Oxford has a wonderful walking tour of the university buildings if you ever get the chance to visit the UK. Very beautiful place to see! Thank you for the lovely relaxing video x
I was 16 in 1984 so remember this time very well. I had a couple of disastrous perms, one with short hair and long. The fashions were memorable to say the least and I wore jackets with shoulder pads, grandpa shirts, bell skirts, gym boots, duffle coats and lots of knitted jumpers. There was also the big, dangly earrings. I live in Australia and had family in the UK and remember whenever we rung them, we had to keep the call brief otherwise we would run up a huge phone bill as international calls were timed by the minute. I remember everything in the 80’s was big - big hair, big clothes, big cars. As you said, everyone lived to excess. I also remember there was a lot of cigarette advertising back then both in printed media and on billboards. Yes, sun worshipping was definitely in and a tan was seen as a great thing but luckily not anymore today. I do go out in the sun, but always wear a hat and sunscreen. I’m actually proud of my fair skin. My daughter who is 21 thinks I am pretty lucky to have grown up when I did and she is now a fan of anything 80’s because of me. They certainly were the best decade of my life.
Yes, you can find Vidal Sassoon products, but not the same scent. It used to be what was called Almond scent, you could find it in lots of stuff, but no more. I LOVED THE ORIGINAL SMELL❤❤❤
This is a lot of fun! I didn't recognize Isabella Rossellini at all in that shot, she was so young. But she's still so vibrant and charming. Some of those photos do make me inspired to dress up more as a man too, I need to get a couple of blazers. Not $1200 blazers of course!
OH MY GOD, THREE DOLLARS!? I wish Vogue were still so cheap, I have to pay $12 a month just to use the freakin' website... 😭😭 This was an interesting ride through the glamour-puss side of the '80s. My mom loved the '80s and said it was the best and most fun decade ever, but she was a punk who lived in a trap house and sold cocaine, LOL. She eventually learned to straighten up and fly right after meeting my dad, who was a Marine but also the bassist in a surf punk band called Shark Bait, they even released an album! 🦈🤙🏄♂
I thought about you recently! I’ve been watching CHiPs on FreeVee and I remember it vaguely on t.v. as a kid. I was born in 75 so it was on but I never really watched it but I’ve been making a quilt and really soaking it in and it’s been a treat to watch! You came to mind because I thought California in the late 70’s! I wish I was old enough to remember it!!
The timing is perfect! I needed something playing in the background to soothe myself after a weird day but I'm not in the mood for nature sounds as I usually am; so this is perfect. Thank you Jeannie!
Hello, Jeannie! It's just my second evening since I've discovered ASMR) You are so sweet! I was born in 1995 in Belarus but my favourite movie of all time is Tootsie - since I first saw it in 1999:) So I enjoyed this time travel a lot - and I certainly will return to your channel for more! P.S. The Beatles are the love of my life, so I will look forward to see more 60s as well:) xx Joan
11:24 not sure if anyone has answered yet, but $295 in 1984 would be $873.90 today!
😵💫
Why is no one talking about the fact that she looks EXACTLY like the cover model??😂😂
😊
I tried making the same facial pose, no smile, but it ends up looking angry! Lol!
I totally thought she WAS the model, and would reveal that fact as a surprise. 😊
@@JeannieBASMRwow thats actually weird, i had already convinced myself this was you looking back on your modeling carrer. 😊
