How Did Manchester United Win The Treble?

  • Contrary to performances in recent years, Manchester United is still the most dominant team in the English Premier League era. 13 Premier League titles is no joke.
    In addition to that, United still remain as the only team in the history of English football to win the fabled treble: A Premier League, a Champions League and an FA Cup. All in the same season.
    The story of how this happened is one laced with nothing but glory. But how exactly did it happen? How was Sir Alex Ferguson able to guide Manchester United to the Promised land?

    I was at the arsenal Vs man u match in 99'. I vividly remember Bayern v Man U final. i was in a hotel with my dad on a business trip, that night my dad went to bed after the first half seeing how formidable bayern was. I was hoping and praying for a miracle. Right at the 91st min, i woke my dad and told him we are going into extra time! He went to take a leak, when he came out i told him we had won. He was dumbfounded as how it happened, we spend the next 1/2 hr watching the Play by play commentary and replay for the last 5 mins of brilliance.
    Btw, my dad also bet some $5,000 on united winning. Years on, that treble year was the most memorable year for me as both a football and united fan. I feel so privileged to have watch the best of United making history that day.

    Even as an Arsenal fan, I don’t think anything with top this. Man City are more than likely to win the treble this year, fair play to them (not financial tho). However, they really have walked it to get where they are. This United team had THAT match against Juventus, THAT match against Barcelona, and of course, *THAT MATCH* in the final against Bayern. Imagine loosing 2-1 despite leading 1-0 for 89 minutes. And United also battled for the title, winning the league on the last day, and had an incredibly tense FA Cup semi final against us that featured that Bergkamp miss and that Giggs goal in the last minute. Legendary stuff.

    It's historical revisionism that Paul Scholes was the deep-lying playmaker in that team and Keane was the "midfield enforcer." Scholes didn't move back into a deep-lying playmaking role until later in his career, at that time as you pointed out he actually tended to be the one who got up behind the strikers or made the late runs into the box, although so did Keane, just not as frequently as he did in the earlier part of the decade. Midfielders at that time to a certain extent were all what we would now call box to box. But in that team for the most part it was Keane who was the playmaker, he was the one taking the ball off the center backs and fizzing passes from deep into the strikers feet or into space for players to run on to.
    He was a master of unspectacular but highly efficient passing, the man was a metronome. He also had an amazing touch and was highly press resistant, very rarely giving the ball away. This modern characterization that I see made over and over again by people who are so young that they never actually saw him play or maybe caught the final couple of years of his career when they were very young (not you specifically) as this technically untalented midfield enforcer who just went around kicking people is simply ridiculous. He was easily in the top 5 most complete midfield players in the world for the best part of a decade and would of walked into any single team in the world either at club or international level during that period.

    Ever since United, my team, won The Treble, I have dreamed of such victories again, knowing that there is only one Sir Alex Ferguson. Can we expect to have such a winner again? Barely. But I still have the dream.

    • @Trudon
      @Trudon 3 роки тому

      @@systemerror7857 shut up u moron. There's no keyboard warrior business here at all. It's facts. Fergie was never the best tactically hence his pretty poor record in europe for all the success he had domestically. 2 cl's in 26 years? Nah that's not goat status imo.
      The was very successful because of two things. The class of 92 and the sky tv money. United bossed the league because there was no financial competition for them until chelsea arrived. Arsenals excellent recruitment and wenger reinventing the game in the UK also.
      Fergie in todays game with the level of social media scrutiny, level of comp in the pl along with the juggernaut of this city empire and klopps fantastic liverpool team bar this season pressing the fuck out of u would see fergie struggle.
      He's a great no doubt but overrated.

    I mean, I really rate the Liverpool teams from about 74-76 up to 83 as one of the best teams (albeit with personnel changes) that's ever existed, in any country, in any era.....but I don't think that that Liverpool team could hold a candle to the United teams from 92-93 up to 2001. For me, that United team was the best team ever to have existed, in any country, and any era 👍

    Best content on the internet, hands down. I'd like to make a request if possible, though I don't know how much footage is available to support it. I'd love to see your take on some of the legends of old, as I feel they are underappreciated and deserve their place in our discussions, having built the institutions we hold dear. I think I have you pegged rightly as someone who appreciates the history and lore of the club, so if you could put out pieces on the Sir Matt, Munich, Sir Bobby, Georgie, Dennis Law et al I think they would be brilliant.
